As a successful 5 star host for over 3 years I have left VRBO and will never return. They do not support hosts who experience horrible guests that break rules. VRBO will withdraw money from your account without your permission. They do not read correspondence, and don't care about anything except making money. You have no protection and no support.

I have listed on VRBO and Homeaway for over 10 years, with as many as seven listings at a time. All that you read in the reviews by owners is correct concerning how this company has deteriorated since it was acquired by Expedia. The fees they charge guests to book are now shameful. You pay nothing like that amount of fees if you use Airbnb. Also, from the owners standpoint, the service has become worse and worse, more and more expensive, and produces fewer and fewer bookings. Expedia is ruining what was once an excellent company. They do not deserve to remain in business. Use Airbnb

I am an owner with a property listed on VRBO. They 'incorrectly' listed my home (and several others) in their site search criteria under a neighboring upscale community. We were unaware of this issue until a reenter brought it to our attention. This renter relied on VRBO's search criteria thinking they were renting a home in this community. When arriving at our home (located in a different community) they were upset and posted a negative review as 'if' we as owners had falsely listed our home this way.
VRBO has been asked to fix their error (they haven't). They have been asked to remove review against our home for their issue (they haven't). They have been asked to reach out to this renter in regard to their mistake (they haven't).
Their lack of support and/or acceptance of responsibility for their mistake is costing us future bookings. I could not agree more with other owner reviews of VRBO it is a shame to pay for their listing your home when there is little of no customer service provided to owners or guests.

What a strange company that sorts out to different countries with beyond stupid people. They said I had to take selfies and photos of my Drivers License and the list goes on, while taking a 1,200.00 deposit!

We have rented 5 listings in Chattanooga through VRBO for the past 7 years. We have consistently had a great experience with them up until they decided to change their payment system. I understand that Air BnB does their payment system the same way, but having the company do it in the middle of the year and still making the users pay when they book seems unethical.
It has completely ruined our book keeping as well as our pay roll. How are we supposed to pay the property manager an administrative fee in a way that is fair without draining our bank account?
We are in desperate need of a company that encompasses the good things of both air bnb and vrbo so that we can drop this company completely and go back to how things were.
If anyone has any idea of such a company please let us know!
Were at a loss as for what to do, since we do get so much business through them.

I rented a house in Cocoa Beach Florida for a weeks vacation with my husband and 4 children. Long story short, we left because the place was infested with bugs!! Property manager only refunded me for 1/2 of my fee. VRBO says it is up to the property manager. I filed a claim with my credit card, VRBO took the money away from the house we rebooked at and is telling me they can't do anything to fix it. Never Again!!!
I booked through VRBO, payment is processed through another company yapstone, but VRBO has zero control over the money issues?!?!?! I have spent more time on the phone with my Credot card company and VRBO and yapstone then I did on vacation. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!
I included photos of the bugs in my son's medicine organizer and on the box of donuts so you can see, I am not lying about the bugs.

I have booked with VRBO/home away more times than I can count. My family and friends use them as well. All experiences have been good ones. As a loyal customer, I expect loyalty in return if something were to go wrong. In September of 2019 I booked a property for November 19. It was a home in Las Vegas for a half marathon race and mini family vacation. As always, I paid up front in full. In October of 2019 I was notified by VRBO via email that there was "possibly an issue with my upcoming booking" and to contact the owner. I did as they said and was upset by the owners response. He stated that VRBO had taken everything from him, shut down all his properties and left him bankrupt. He then notified me that not only was my booking cancelled but he had no funds to refund me my money for a trip that was more than a month away. I wasn't too panicked at this time because I knew VRBO would take care of me with their "Book with confidence guarantee". After all, it's that what booking though a site like this is for? For security? Boy was I wrong. I first responded to VRBO's initial email in which prompted me to a 1-800 number. I called this number and was lead through the ringer. They could not help me at this time. The lady said the owner had received a "serious complaint" and as a result had to be shut down. That is all she could tell me. She said she would expedite my case and I would receive a call I about 24hrs. 24hrs later, no call but another email.... stating that VRBO could not help me (with no explanation given) and that I needed to dispute the charge with my credit card company. I called VrBO 2 more times after this looking for answers... no one could give me any information other than "This is a unique situation" and I was finally told to stop contacting them. I am appalled to say the least. DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY. Airbnb provides a much better service with a guarantee they actually stick with.

I stayed at a VRBO in Vegas and the owners charged me for my damage deposit saying I smoked in the house. I don't smoke anything. VRBO doesn't control the deposit and allowed the owners to keep it without any questions asked. When I call the customer care they end up keeping me on hold from 30min to 1 1/2 hours then hang up with no information.

Falling in love with Pezenas
I absolutely loved staying in this fabulous apartment in Pezenas. It was charming, calm and comfortable and certainly more than lived up to my expectations. The Owner had put a lot of care and attention into every detail. Conveniently situated in an old building on a quiet street in the centre of town, it was so easy to pop in and out, to the market, restaurants and lovely countryside walks close by. Highly recommended. I will be back. »

It's been a month now and after 5 calls and emails, still no refund. VBRO Agent told me I need to go back to my bank and have them confirm they DIDN'T get my money. How absurd.

No refund. I’ve been waiting a month to get my deposit back ($240) and after 5 calls and emails still getting the run around.
Saw the response from Home Away. A bunch of nonsense. I’ve contacted the Pepoerty Manager and she contacted Home Away. They told her that the money was paid so there’s nothing to do. I called Home Away yet again and they told me to have my bank send a letter saying they never received the money or returned it The Customer Service Agent from Wells Fargo commented this was absurd. This is just a way for Home Away to keep deposits.

Let me start by saying I have been an owner on VRBO for over 10 years with up to 6 properties at a time. They USED to be amazing....but the money hungry monopoly they are have become too greedy! Now down to 2 properties listed with them, as soon as subscription runs out end of year only 1. Every year there is another "gotcha" fee to owner and/or traveler. Most recently their payment processing, Yapstone, changed their disbursement policy to hold your money until after guest check in (yes, hold million and millions of owner dollars in their accounts for months and months, making BIG $$$) unless we owners wanted to pay them ANOTHER 3% fee...yes, on top of the 3% fee we pay for cc processing, which if you know anything about cc volume, they are not paying 3% merchant fees. Very easy for Vrbo to pass the buck and say, its all Yapstone, they are 3rd party, we cant control it. So Vrbo developed their own processing merchant and says for only the 3% cc processing fee, they will switch us over to their new platform and we will continue getting our money at time of reservation like always. Just kidding, ultimate bait and switch! Received email Friday saying, after review of your account, it is not eligible for early payout. WHAT?? 10 YEARS, HUNDREDS OF REVIEWS AND THOUSANDS OF SATISIFIED CUSTOMERS AND WE ARENT ELIGIBLE??? What a scam! Dont EVEN get me started on their negative star rating of customer service and their "partner success managers". I have been working on an issue since Nov '18, (yes 10 months) and in January, Partner Success Manager, Sheila White, stepped in to support the awful service they have shown to exhibit. Calls and calls emails and emails for weeks and months go un answered, asking to be connected with a supervisor is futile, not sure they exist. In what world of customer service does it exist to not return a paying customers requests, calls, emails and simply ignore them? Only the government is allowed to do that! Finally received a vm a few weeks ago from her claiming she had called me multiple times that day, day before and before that...but NO missed calls, zero! Even this one, they might have a backdoor way into leaving vm's without it ringing, I know Sprint customers used to be able to do it, sure it still exists. I have asked for screenshot proof of these calls she "made" frim their CRM, but no response. She asked on the vm what my concerns were....I instantly called back, literally within minutes of receiving the vm and no answer...shocker. I left yet another vm asking how she can ask what my concerns were...were the 5 emails I sent over the previous weeks and months not sufficient in explanation? So if you get Sheila White as your Partner Success Manager, be prepared for NO partnering OR success. Vrbo as I tell every guest and traveler I get int touch with how big of a crook the company is, but they are a necessary evil. Hope someday soon, another vendor will figure out the secret sauce to take them down! Maybe Zillow needs to get into the vacation rental market! Already attract 150M users per month! Hmmmmm #Zrbo anyone?

Stay away. They are ripping everybody off. They do not support owners. They allow reviews that are completely false. I joined VRBO more than 4 years ago, we have been a paid member and those that found us thru VRBO could book directly to the owners of the property. Then they started a 10% fee to renters to book thru VRBO. Then they instituted a policy that you could only accept payments through them and added 3% transaction fee to Owner. Prior you could accept a check or via PayPal or similar program. If you were a member in good standing you received your monies at booking. They just added another 3% to receive the money prior to arrival. I have a 60 day no refund policy. Once that is reached the payments are no longer VRBO's. It becomes my money. They also instituted a policy that they hold any deposits. If you need to make a claim it will go to an illegitimate arbitration process.
So in all a $500 membership fee to owners per year PLUS 6% additional on every booking for the owner. For the renter they can pay as much as 10%.
List and book on other sites like AirBNB or Tripadvisor.

Recently had a horrible experience with VRBO. It was our first time booking with them and we stayed at a place in Colorado. The house was cute but had serious plumbing issues. On day 3 of our stay, the septic tank overflowed and the owner tried to blame us even though we hadn’t put anything but toilet paper down there!! Then at one point the sink started gushing out water when the washing machine was going so I let the owner know and she made me call the plumber and handle all of that. It took forever to cleanup and she didn’t thank us or anything. We followed every house rule and were perfect guests but she gave me a 2 star rating as a guest. I called VRBO to see if there is any way to dispute this - or at the very least be able to respond and defend myself. They said no sorry there’s nothing that can be done unless I contact the owner and ask her to take it down. Ridiculous system!! When an owner gets a bad review, they have the chance to respond to it but a traveler doesn’t get that same opportunity? Absurd and not fair at all. It also took me 3 calls for them to even answer this for me - they kept saying they would put me on hold for “2 mins” and 45 mins later I was still on hold each time. Terrible customer service.

Spent a glorious five days here with four adults and a baby. Everyone had enough space to themselves. The deck with the lounge chairs and umbrellas, worked for the baby and grownups, as an alternative to walking down to the beach. Easy access to the beach from the lower level. Amenities were complete. Stores were nearby. Only minor complaint is we wish a filtered water line worked from the water and ice access in the brand new fridge. A good place to take your family.

We had a great experience with our rental. It was clean, well outfitted,
and we enjoyed the venue.
Only exceptions were that we had trouble figuring out how to use the tv, and not enough seats in the living room to seat 6 people.

I tried to book through their website. On the request page appeared a message saying that the request had been not accepted yet and a clock saying how much time was left before the request had to be considered refused. The clock went to 0; I had urgency to book, and booked through another website. After that I found an email, sent a couple of hours before the expire time, saying that the request had been accepted. I contacted the customer service; they have not given me any justification/explanation on the inconvenience, and took from me 158 €!
