I ordered a book. I never received any shipping tracking number. I got refund in my card after few days. I pinged them to see what's going on. They said they canceled my order because they thought it was suspected as fraud order. Then I checked the same book in their website and it showed out of stock. I think this book was never in stock. The fact that it showed out of stock right after they refunded means, either it was never in stock. This is so unprofessional. I hope this website is not a scam website just to steal our credit card information. Be careful guys. Even if this website is not a scam, then they are not professional. The show the books that are not in stock as available. So unprofessional and frustration.

I have ordered from ThriftBooks several times, typically ordering 5-6 books at a time. The books are always as described and very affordable. If anyone has encountered any issues with the quality of their books, I would guess they didn't read the description. Also, the workers ship the orders very quickly and you're able to track the order. I just had another delivery and all 5 of my books are as described and arrived very quickly.

I can't believe I paid $10 for a book that has a goodwill sticker on it "$1.99", and the book was in disgusting condition, what looked like dry blood on the cover

Thrifty books should show pictures of the books and what they constitute as "very good", two books I received so far is filled with highlight and comments from the previous owners and one book had a piece of hair (very disturbing), I stick with Amazon from now on.

Ordered a book, Pet Semetary, book arrived with no dust jacket.
No where on the site did i see information that would let me know it was missing.
Asked to return and the site sent an email that showed an icon of a book beside the book title. This icon means that the book has no cover. How im supposed to know that.... no information about icons on website, Also no icon when i look at the order myself.
So you have to purchase a book to find out if it may or may not have a dust jacket.
all in all, misleading information and not helpful website or staff
These pictures, harry potter book mentioned no dust jacket,
The Pet Semetary i purchased does not, how am i supposed to know that though?

I ordered Melissa and Doug pop books for my toddler. I ordered good condition but at check out they recommended that I get acceptable to save .40 and quicker shipping. So I changed the order. Out of the 4 pop books, 2 had some of the plastic pop pieces broken so when he tries to pop it there is only a broken plastic dot. We also ordered 3 train books. 1 was suppose to be in good condition but it came with the cover cut in 1/2 and a few of the pages missing. I contacted the company and they sent another 1 that arrived after my sons birthday and also had a black moldy substance on the pages. The other acceptable books were very worn with 1 book having a name written on the front in permanent marker. I realize that these are used books but I expected the same quality that I would find at used bookstores. I was very disappointed in the quality of their books.

I received a book from Thriftbooks I did not order. I spoke with ThriftBooks customer service and was told they could not tell me who sent the book.
I feel my privacy has been compromised!

I've ordered from ThriftBooks numerous times, and had emailed them a complaint about one book. I received a quick response to my email, and now a replacement (free of charge) is on the way.

PayPal link wouldn't work after multiple tries. "Chat Now" on support page doesn't work. Unable to delete my account. Does this tell (smell) you something? No time or energy to spend on time wasting scam sites. If they don't know how to do online business, they don't deserve my order. I see there are numerous 1-star complaints. Strongly suggest that users check out ThriftBooks BEFORE doing any business with them.

I paid almost $20 for express shipping to have a book shipped within a certain time frame. I did not arrive within that time frame so I requested a refund for the express shipping fee. My email to them clearly was not read because they replyed with a stock email about how long standard shipping takes. I have emailed them again and perhaps this time they will read the email but I will not be ordering from this seller again.

I ordered a game through their site, and waited a week for it. When it arrived, it was so scratched up that it wouldn't even work. They sent a replacement, but it turned out to be a completely different game than the one I ordered, plus it was so scratched up that it didn't work either.

The book was offered on Amazon.com as "Used - Good," meaning among other things that all pages were intact. In fact the corners of pages 111-130 were torn off and missing. So much of the text is gone that the book is unreadable. It shouldn't have been advertised as it was and in fact shouldn't have been offered at all.

This used to be a great site for international customers. Not any more! The shipping cost increased substantially. There is no point in ordering from them again. Buying new hardcover books from Amazon now costs a lot less than buying from Thrift books and delivery is also guaranteed with Amazon but not with Thrift books! Now a better alterantive is Better World Books. For paperbacks Book Depository is ideal.
In short RIP Thrift Books.

The experience on Thrifbooks is mostly good. However, the reason I give it three stars is because prices will fluctuate wildly day to day on the same exact items, sometimes as much as $5-$6 on a certain item. (books are priced according to condition, I am speaking of books of the same condition). Prices over $10 do come with free shipping, but... I have seen items on Ebay, sold from Thriftbooks with free shipping under $10, so that is not fair to those who use Thrifbooks primarily to purchase used books, when they can buy the same book from the same vendor from Ebay and not pay the shipping. Also, You do get points from purchasing from the Website or App, they do add up and you can get a "Free Book". This is Very misleading, you don't get a free book, you get what is basically a $5 store credit, and when you do, expect anything you look up to magically be priced at $5.09 or above, when they were well below the $5 threshold the day before.. The books that are under $5 are your usual yard sale fodder and you can probably get it from Ebay for $2-$3 or Salvation Army for even cheaper. Thriftbooks does not sell books cheaper that about $4, no matter what they are. The $5 store credits do not add up and are completely used up whether you use it on a $3.99 book or a $4.99 book, there is no remaining balance if it's under the $5. I would be much more useful if you could add up your $5 "free book" (store credit) to purchase books that are more money, for instance three $5 "free Book" (store credits) could be used to buy a $15 book, that is not available however to use in that way on Thriftbooks, the whole "Free Book" is misleading in this sense. Also, make sure you do your homework before purchasing a book You want. I am shocked to see books sometimes priced well over the price you pay on Amazon or from The publisher. I am speaking of currently available books that may be on Thriftbooks as used for over $20, and I check the publisher and they have it in stock new retail for $12 to $15. All this said, I do enjoy searching for books on Thriftbooks, I have gotten may good deals, but I also find myself on AbeBooks, Amazon, and Ebay just as much when searching for a particular item. The free shipping is nice and they may be sometimes a deal breaker when price comparing with other websites who may have the book for cheaper but you have to pay $5.99 for shipping. A bidding option would be a nice feature, but I realize it would probably not be feasible. The "Free Book" perk is not worth it by itself, there simply is no reason to want it for what you can use it for and I would possibly find it more useful if you could; 1. carry a balance on your Free book rewards (not use it up all at once), 2. Add up your Free book rewards to purchase more expensive books. Prices are usually good, but can be deceptive because they fluctuate wildly for no determinable reason. Customer service has been pretty good; I have received books that have had water damage, ripped bindings, etc.. and they have quickly resolved my issues with those orders.

The book that was sent is NOT A HARDCOVER!!!! The book was sent in a plastic bag and the 4 corners of the book are DAMAGED!!! The top of the books pages have been raked and are DAMAGED!! The spline has DAMAGE!!! I am so MAD!! The incompetence to not send $70.00 book in a Box from a book store is baffling??? Thriftbooks is not a good Steward of books and should immediately get out of the business and stop DESTROYING these out of print Books!!!

Thriftbooks was easily the best American seller for us living outside the USA.
Their prices were unbeatable & shipping cost was $5, no matter the size/ weight of the book.
Now, they have changed for International orders
I was charged $30 only for delivery!
That means I would also have to pay my country's Import Taxes.
Only a couple of months ago I would pay for my order $15 (with shipping included!)...
Now that price has risen to $55 for the same $10-book.
So, no more Thriftbooks for us International buyers
I am deeply sorry for losing this great seller.
But if you are American or don't mind the new high International shipping rates, go for it!
Their customer service is great and they will issue a refund if your order arrives in a not-as-advertised condition.
Their book prices are phenomenal!

I used to love ThriftBooks and ordered many books from them to Australia. An amazing range with great service. However, in the space of two months, the postage cost went from $5 a book to $9 a book to $15 per book! It's simply not worth buying books from them anymore and will be cancelling my account. Very disappointing and feels like they're price gouging! Bye bye ThriftBooks!

I used to really like this site because I love to read. I started noticing misleading emails about prices of books months ago and asked the site to refrain from sending me these emails. I don't like scams, and that's exactly what this site does. I put a book on my wishlist and the next day I get a email advertising the same book for $10 less than the listed price, and provides a direct link to the book at said price, but guess what happens when you click? It takes you to the site where the book is indeed $10 MORE. Nowhere will you find said book for the email special price. How misleading and annoying. The worse part, upon informing customer service you get the generic "Nobody knows anything here, let's pass the buck to someone else" response. Terrible. Stick with eBay for your affordable book purchases. I noticed the prices going up lately anyway.

Unfortunately, any order over 30 days cannot be replaced/refunded.
THAT'S it, can you believe it
got screwed for a total of 10 $
i'm from morocco and you can imagine me waiting for a book for about 3 to 4 months every time, to never receive it, AND NO REFUND (I call this theft ) books i need, Zero PROFESSIONALISM
Be careful don't deal with this company.

I've been buying books through Thriftbooks for a few years. Good experiences. I especially like the feature that will notify you when a book you want becomes available.
Although the prices and postage have increased a little, it's usually still more economical than other places on the web that sell books.

I bought a used book from Thriftbooks via Ebay on May 16th (2019). They shipped it on the next day, via Fedex.
The book was shipped at Newark, New Jersey (USA). I live in Trois-Rivières, Québec (Canada) which is at - by car - about 90 miles north of Montréal, a 7 hour drive from Newark to the North.
Fedex had a tracking number, but no updates ever.
On June 3rd, , I got an update from Fedex (wow...) saying that the book was rendered in Carson - CALIFORNIA !!!!!
Hey, only the State of New York separates Québec from New Jersey, and the book is at the extreme southwestern part of the United States ?????
Their main competitor, Better World Books is heaven (10/10). I never got a book bought from them and not received it very quickly. (For example, a book bought at the English (London) warehouse takes never more than 5 days to get to me here in Québec.
Since Pay Pal allows 180 days to get a refund, and that Ebay stipulates that the book could arrvie (yes, "could" arrive by June 25th (of THIS year, really???????? ), I might wait until that date to ask for a refund.
I did contact Fedex and said that they never had updates on where things are, the only update that they do have is - ( like in my case - Newark, New Jersey and then Carson, California. Nothing in between, nothing afterwards neither.
I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who has had a terrible experience with Thriftbooks.
