I purchased some aquarium gravel online through Petco's website. Immediately afterwards I realized I would rather just order it from the store and and do curb side pickup in order to save on shipping. I went to cancel my order through Petco, and the Petco site said you had to call them for cancellations, which I found kind of odd in this day in age, but whatever, I called them to cancel. I explained what happened and they said they would handle the cancellation request while I put in another order for curb side pickup from my local Petco. They said someone would follow back up with me the next day in regards to my cancellation request, which again, I found pretty odd; why do they need to contact me the next day in regards to a cancellation request, just cancel it. So the next day I pickup my order from Petco. On my way home I get a call from a customer service representative in regards to my online order. They said it already shipped and they couldn't cancel the request and that there was nothing they could do. Again, I put in my cancellation requests literally minutes after I submitted the order. I'm guessing these traditional retail companies with a web presence are getting owned so bad by the successful online retailers like Amazon and Chewy that they have to resort to shady tactics in order to milk their customers for every penny. Whatever, I will file a dispute with the credit card company and never shop at Petco again. Screwing your customers over for penny's is not a long term strategy for success. I will stick with online retailers like Chewy who do it right and don't try and screw over the customer.

I recently went to PetCo looking for a pet to buy. When I was looking at the betta fish, I was absolutely shocked and appalled by their living conditions. The fish were in small, dirty cups with no lighting or heating, and we found about ten dead fish. The employees said that the bettas didn't need much space, and they didn't require lighting or heating, but I was still appalled by the conditions these fish were kept in. The leopard geckos were also in pretty bad shape, as the temperature for their habitat was less than the required temperature, and their skin was flaking in a way that couldn't have been molting. The birds had exposed patches of skin and were acting lethargic, and when I asked the staff about it, they just said that the birds were fine, even though I knew they were not. Sorry that I couldn't add a picture, I didn't bother to take any during my visit. Just stay away from the Sunset Valley area PetCo store.

This was the absolute worse shopping/adopting experience of our lives.
We came into the store as a family because my spouse doesn't drive and is disabled, and the kids are too young to leave at home alone. It was a hot spring day, not fit to leave young children in the van.
My wife wanted a bird to adopt and was looking at a $450 conure. The kids were passively looking into the plastic upright cages while my wife was asking questions about the conure to an old crone employee who was cleaning the cages. The embittered dowager sales person was clearly annoyed by my spouse's question, and when she closed the cage door and came around the cage, she yelled at us for having too many people in our party.
I responded that we were here to adopt a bird and was about to spend seven or eight hundred dollars on the bird and supplies for it. She crowed on that it was a "State law" only two people to a party inside the store.
Now, as a resident of the state and being well-versed in COVID-19 pandemic legislation and ordinances in our area, I corrected her that the governor never issued a stay-at-home order and that the two person thing was that store's suggestion, not a law or policy. Well, she freaked out and waddled to the store manager, another dowerless old crone, who proceeded to yell from across the front of the store, "Goodbye. Have a nice day" repeatedly. We were kicked out of their store! Had they loss their minds? My wife was humiliated.
I never heard of such a thing. I called Petco customer service and was on the phone almost a hour with them. They took a complaint and asked me if I wanted to speak to the district manager. I said yes and was told the DM would be given my contact information. The DM never called.
Shame on Petco for treating my poor disabled wife so rudely and for not caring enough to call me back and at least explain the store manager's strange behavior. We went to three other Petco stores immediately afterward across the river while I was on hold with customer service, complaining about the Council Bluff store's treatment of us, and all three Omaha store teams were shocked and added that there was no law or policy restricting us from shopping at Petco.
I want an apology from that store manager for my wife.

I have shopped at Petco for years. I recently ordered prescription Nexgard for my dog online and they sent it to my previous address even though I made sure the correct address was on my order. I tried the online chat and after taking more than 1/2 an hour I was told there was nothing she could do. When I requested a supervisor to call me I was told she entered it and I would be called in 24-48 hours, which I wasn't. I tried calling customer service and was literally on hold for an hour before I hung up. I tried calling back several times and was hold forever until I finally chose the option for sales and was finally able to talk with someone. I was again told there was nothing this person could do and she put in a request for a refund decision. It has been over a week and the money still has not been refunded. I have decided not to pursue it further but that is the last money Petco will ever receive from me.

I wanted to come here and leave a review because I think most reviews are left only after a bad experience. I really like my local Petco (Eureka, Ca) . It's large, clean, organized, well-stocked and the employees are (surprisingly) knowledgeable, helpful and friendly (without coming off fake)
I LOVE getting the 10% discount for shopping and purchasing online and picking up myself at my local store. I only live 10 minutes from Petco so the entire experience is so easy, and the 10% discount is a big incentive for me.
I just did my first online order today through Petco for a rather expensive purchase ; a Lay-Z-Boy dog sofa (I know, I know! Ridiculous!).
I chose to order it from Petco over every other online shop, including Wayfair, because
a) they had the best price - at least $25 less than everyone else
b) they got better reviews than Wayfair
c)I'm hoping if there are any issues or problems I'm not at just the whim of a corporation on the phone, I can get help via my local store (this is according to Petco).
The couch is due to arrive Tuesday Jan 27. When I receive it I will come back here and finish my review. Fingers crossed I'll be leaving 5 stars!

Tried to buy Neon Tetras at the Heber City, Utah store and they would not honor the coupon. Showed the ad to the employee on my I-phone and he pointed out fine print that indicated the fish might not look like the picture in the ad. The ad clearly stated Neon Tetras with a unmistakable picture of a Neon Tetra so not sure what he was talking about. It was clear he just didn't want to honor the ad. When I contacted corporate they wanted me to join their club so they could give me vouchers. I was not looking for free stuff, just wanted to know if the store and employee had been contacted to address the issue. Still do not know. I shop at an independent fish store 30 minutes away now. Will not step foot in a Petco again.

Petco (475 S Wadsworth Blvd, Lakewood, CO 80226) will literally steal from you. I bought a $60 bag of dog food (left it at the register, Drove around to get my truck, and they asked for my receipt when I purchased it less than 60 seconds before) the manager with the Australian/New Zealand accent wouldn't give me my dog food or a refund. To add insult to injury, she said she would give me a 5% discount if I wanted to buy another bag. Thankfully I got my credit card company involved, but petco will literally steal from you. Don't ever come to this establishment.

Went to PetCo for the first time today, will definatly be the very last,
looking for a Cockatiel in my local area,Fresno, a few other pet stores wanted $60 to $150, Petco prce $249.99 and they had the birds for nearly a year already, not suprising, I ended up joining a waiting list for a bird with another store (not PetCo) and at a price of $60 and 4 months old, i noticed in other stores that Parakets wsold for $17 to $20, Petco price $25.99, even other products were all jacked up in price compared to Amazon and many others, it is almost like legal robbery of some kind, anyone looking for a pet then look elsewhere in your area before getting ripped off

As a Veterinarian (now retired) I've been with Drs. Foster and Smith since their beginning.
Never really liked Petco but was forced into ordering from them due to the buy out.
In the past year, they have shown that they do not care &/or have any respect for the Drs. Foster and Smith customers by
discontinuing almost all of their products (without notice). Not a good business practice.
Because of this, I have informed my colleagues, family & friends about this & will join the ones that have already stopped ordering.

I would give Petco 0 stars if possible. First let me say I normally order cat/dog food and medication from Chewy.com which is a phenomenal company; a company I cannot say enough good things about. Unfortunately the specific medication my dog needed, gabapenten was not available through them. Years ago I had ordered medication through Foster & Smith and never had any trouble. When I learned they had been taken over by Petco I thought well, that's OK, I know the name though I don't shop there in my community. Well, never again. I ordered gabapenton and Carprofen on a Monday morning and they took my Vet's information and they said it would take 2 - 4 days to contact and get it off to me. Well, I was billed immediately and never heard from them again, no confirmation, nothing. So Wednesday late afternoon I looked online at my account and it said it had been sent to the pharmacy. I chatted online to ask what did that mean? I was told that they had tried to contact my vet twice and were still awaiting a response. My vet had closed by then so I called the next morning. Vet's office said they had faxed the approval on Monday as soon as they had gotten the request. I then called the 'call center' overseas and it was extremely difficult to get them to understand that the vet had responded days ago and I needed it delivered or at least find out the status. I was not able to speak to a supervisor or anyone that could actually do anything. I was told the pharmacy would email me or call me that day. Of course they never did and again today I have been unable to get through on a chat. I now have to go to the vet and purchase the medication for another week to ensure my dog does not run out. I am so frustrated. I have never written a negative review but I put this out because I feel I have no recourse and that I want others to know how bad this online company is. I just I had found this initially!

I would not give this company any stars as I tried to purchase 5 mg of vetoryl from them. It is on back order every where. Petco guaranteed me that they had it. I was surprised so I repeated the question. They said, 'they had it". 2 days later I was wondering why the order was still pending and not processing. I called them and they stated it was on backorder. I do not like the integrity of this company as I specifically asked them to process my order right away as I was concerned they would run out. They did not listen and now my dog is without medications.

I ordered a prescription medicine for my dog and after 9 days and numerous calls to their customer service department, I never received an explanation as to why the medicine hasn't arrived yet.
In addition, their website is plage with multiples missing links.
They are on the same road as Toys & Us!

Great place for fish and aquariums! Employees are friendly and helpful. The only issue I had was when the store was understaffed and had to seek out help, but they did a great job when they were able to help me. I live an hour away from three different stores and always swing by when I'm in the area. Great selection of Bettas, aquatic plants and aquarium supplies. Will continue to shop at both the Springfield, MO and Rogers, AR stores!

The store in New York- their prices are a bit high, and the store offerings aren't vast. The service was excellent, and I would certainly recommend it.

I previously bought heartguard meds from Smith and Foster that has sold out to Petco. While their prices are the cheapest around, they are not worth it because one can spend days trying to fix the order and nothing gets done. Their website for pharmacy products is very poor. It asked for my vets name, but would not allow me to change it to the current vet. And when I called the company saying that I could not change the name, they supposedly changed it for me, but then later, I found it was not changed and had to repeat this process a number of times before they made the change. Even then, the order never got placed. They keep saying that the vet failed to respond, but they can't tell you how the vet failed to respond. I got a copy of the fax that my vet sent to them more than once, but they can't find it or they found it, but there is a problem with it and they can't tell me what the problem specifically is. My vet talked to the Petco people on the phone and these idiots still would not send out my order. I asked to speak to a supervisor and I was assured that my order would be processed or I would at least get some feedback by call or email and nothing happened. I dealt with people who mostly seemed sympathetic to the problem but were helpless in dealing with the process. One total bozo rep kept reading from a script that did not pertain to what I was telling him. In the end, no one's time is worth it trying to deal with this pathetic excuse for an online business department.

I buy medication from Fosters and Smith for my dog that has a pancreatic enzyme deficiency. That company is now owned by Petco. I recently placed my order and selected standard shipping 4-5 business days. After 4-5 business days I didn't receive the medication. After checking their website, it said I wouldn't receive it for another WEEK! We've run out of the medication and now my dog is getting sick. My vet is at Banfield Veterinary Hospital located within Petco. How much easier could this be?! The Petco website customer representative wasn't willing to take any measures beyond taking a 2nd order and charging me for expedited shipment. Not willing to contact the vet directly to speed up approval and shipping of the medication. Also, not willing to credit me for extra shipping costs. The 2nd order is only going to arrive a day earlier than the original order. But with my dog getting sick I'll take that extra day at the very least. I don't have an issue with Banfield or my vet - they are great! I would highly encourage people to find another supplier for your pets medication! If you are concerned about reliable service, shipping delivery as promised and your pet's health avoid Fosters & Smith/ Petco for your beloved pet's medication!

I called everywhere for male parakeets and they said they had them. When I get there they have no clue whether they we're male or female and worse yet they we're not handled at all. So it's been over 3 months and I can't even get near them. They should be handled by everyone so maybe you could have a pet instead of just a bird.

I have been going to the Petco on Shepherd and 11th st. for years and I am completely over it. Tokay I was told by an employee that he could not help me get crickets that only the cashier can help me who had customers. Customers first right? The week before that I asked for 60 crickets, and noticed that there were less than I asked for. The guy that bagged the crickets charged me for 40 because he knew he was wrong but I still did not get what I asked for. There are never enough employees, they have a constant turn around of employyees every month. I have had enough. Finding a new location to get my animal products.

They have right at the top of their online page, "$49, free shipping." There is no asterisk or small writing after it, no exclusions whatsoever. You have to click on the "free shipping" line in order to see that there are exclusions, but there is no indication that it is even a link or clickable.
However, after you fill out your order and all the information, you will not get free shipping unless it is on specific products. They are PURPOSELY hoping their customers add more products in order to get free shipping and then are too dumb to notice they're charging a shipping fee.
I had to EMAIL customer service to find out that there are exclusions. That's how hidden it is. They were totally unapologetic. They've lost me as a long-time customer.

The stores won't sell canned pet food by the case which means a higher cost per can. When I've ordered online to get the case price, they often sent loose cans instead of factory sealed cases. On two of my last three auto-ship orders, this resulted in my receiving the wrong items. Whoever is packing these boxes isn't paying attention to which cans they're grabbing. While they do ship quickly, I can't depend on them to send me what I ordered so I'll be doing all my buying with Chewy for now.
