I was coming back from my lunch break when something from "Microsoft" popped up on my screen and started talking to me. It told me to call the number or my computer would be shut down. I called, they said they were Microsoft, they got my IP address and took control of my screen, and diagnosed the "issue". They found a "trojan". So they sent me to their "3rd party vendor", ITz SUPPORT. Who them charged me $199 to "fix" my computer. I have an invoice via email and everything. seemed super legit.

Scammed my elderly mother.
A pop up came on my elderly mom's computer stating she had a virus and had to call a number to get it fixed, They then charged her $999.99 for 5 years of security and service. They convinced her to send them a check. She has NO IDEA how to use this service and would never have called to ask for this service on her own. They are claiming she did. They also stated that AMERICANS never remember things 2 minutes later. They laughed when I asked them to refund all or part of a service she will never be able to use. How do you get back at these scammers for preying on the elderly.

Claimed to be MicroSoft technicians
There was an error message with an audio warning me that my computer was infected and that I should call MicroSoft Windows for further assistance. A number was provided, I called, and a individual claiming to be from Microsoft answered. He indicated my computer was indeed infected, showing me all sorts of error messages, and asked control of my computer, which I did. He ran scripts on it for about 45 min, and said he had installed a firewall and charged me $1250 for a 3-year contract. I paid them with check. Then I took the computer to Geek Squad, Best Buy, and they said nothing had been done to my computer. It's basically as this article describes: https://blogs.technet.microsof...
