As an foreigner a friend suggested I sign up with HanseMerkur.
To clear things up, I am able to speak German very well, however writing is a bit harder for me. Apologies for writing in English.
The people from HanseMerkur are such an unfriendly bunch of people. I only had once the pleasure of someone nice on the phone, unfortunately from there it only went south. They don't compensate for your costs and always find a way out to not pay. This makes me wonder why I have an insurance at all.

Strange people who really don't want to understand the situation.
I got a car on rent and got their " Mietwagen-Versicherung" for a week. Before termination of the contract I extend my car for another week and they were unable to extend the contract because they cant understand that someboady can really extend his/her rent a car.
This put you in a difficult situation because now if something was happened last week, they can say that we cant assure and therefore its not covered. Also if anything happens to the car in next days they can say that this damage happend probably after extension and we cant cover that. All of the amount which I paid is simply wasted.
One very easy thing which they are unable to understand is that you extended your rent a car and for the same contract you need an extension which is very understandable.
My Simple advise to anybody who is interested in buying, please dont use it because in case you need your car for more then planned days all of your insurance amount will be wasted.
Will never ever think about them and definitely would like to inform as much people as possible to avoid them.

Never ever share your credit card details with this Company.. they will continue to take money of your card even when you tell them not to. When you ring up to complain they say... Do what you want!! Such a bad and unfriendly attitude.

Absolutely unreliable! My luggage was totally lost a year ago, but even after I had done all they asked (like a list of all items, when purchased, price, receipst etc) they never paid for it.

Please do not take an health insurance with this company. They do not care about you and will do whatever they can to get as much money as they can from you.

Signed up with Hanse for our family private healthcare here in Germany and so far experience has been very bad. Claims takes ages and they do whatever they can to not refund albeit we pay a huge amount every month for a family of five.

Not recommendable. The company (under the name of Care Concept) is trying to delay my reimbursement of doctors' treatment costs indefinitely, and thus suspected of cheating. I had been to two different eye doctors that are totally independent of each other. When I tried to apply for a reimbursement of treatment cost of only the second eye doctor, the health insurer request that a questionnaire to be filled out not only by the second eye doctor responsible for the treatment, but also by the first eye doctor, which had nothing to do with the treatment. If these conditions are not met, then it is not possible for me to have my treatment reimbursed. Now the second eye doctor, with whom I had received the treatment, has already completed the questionnaire and sent it back to the health insurer. However, the first eye doctor had refused to do so, as according to him, he had nothing to do with my treatment at the second eye doctor. So without the filled-out questionnaire of the first doctor, the health insurance company can then forever delay my reimbursement and thus save the reimbursement costs (more than 600 euro, and i'm just a poor student), to the detriment of their customer.
Nicht zu empfehlen. Die Firma (unter Namens Care Concept) versucht meine Rückerstattung der Behandlungskosten bei Arzten zu unbestimmter Zeit zu verzörgern (möglicher Betrugsfall !). Ich habe zwei unterschiedliche Augenpraxen besucht, die total voneinander unabhängig sind. Wenn ich die Rückerstattung der Kosten aus nur der zweiten Augenpraxis beantragt, fordert die Krankenkasse dazu auf, dass ein Fragenbogen nicht nur durch die für die Behandlung zuständige zweiten Augenpraxis ausgefüllt wird, sondern auch durch die ersten Augenpraxis, die mit der Behandlung gar nichts zu tun hat. Wenn diese Bedingungen nicht erfüllt werden, dann ist es nicht möglich, meine Rückerstattungsgeld zurück zu bekommen. Jetzt hat die zweite Praxis, bei der ich lediglich die Behandlung erhalten hat, schon den Fragenbogen ausgefüllt und zurückgeschickt. Die erste Praxis hat aber so verweigert, da sie für die Behandlung bei der zweiten Praxis gar nichts zu tun hat. Infolgerdessen bedeutet es, dass die Krankenkasse meine Rückerstattung (mehr als 600 euro, und ich bin nur armer Student) für immer verzögern und damit die Kosten der Firma einsparen kann, zum Schaden ihren Kunden.

same experience as everyone else here. they are basically crooks who charge you for a policy but then:
1. impossible to talk to them about claims - they leave you on hold forever
2. never respond to nor pay ouT legitimate claims
I am surprised the german government hasnt cracked down on them.
avoid at all costs because they give you a false sense of insurance coverage which you do not have

I am having the same experience as everyone else, written to them emailed them about a cancellation on a policy for my wife. I was insured with Saga paid in 12 days. 2 months on still waiting to hear back from this awful company apart from two badly written auto replies nothing.
I must add to my previous review. They have finally paid up in full which has surprised me as I have had no meaningful correspondence from them. Apart from a letter asking for my bank details.

This insurance is a joke. I had an issue with my keys a few months ago and, despite a keys insurance, they are very sorry to not refund me because «I lost the keys by myself» HAHA. Please do not lose your time with this awful expensive and useless insurance.

It is taking months to BEGIN the claim process. I guess I wont see my money at all. I wouldn't recommended to anyone. Big mistake from my side, I should have read reviews before paying, as it has very bad reviews.

If you do Not want to have an insurence, then hansemerkur is the Company you are looking for, if you like to talk on the Phone and send e-mails then hansemerkur is perfekt 4 you, but at the end you Will never see your Money. Good luck

I also wish I had read reviews of this company as I wasted £90 taking out cancellation cover.No response for weeks until sent an Email.Then a letter in a scruffy hand scribbled envelope containing nothing but delaying tactics following which I sent a long explanatory letter 1 month ago. Needless to say no reply.You just give up. Jack.

I would not recommended this company. The refunds take a long time and the customer service is unacceptable rude and even hung up on me twice. Very disappointing.

I pay 60 euros per month for no coverage. I filed a claim months ago, and even after several e-mails and calls, nothing has been done. I will be switching soon.

I would strongly advise to stay away from this company. They do not care about their customers at all and doesn't even bother responding to emails. I submitted the claim and it took them over 2 months to actually do something about it. It would have been forgotten if I hadn't chased it up numerous times. Don't waste your time and money with Germany CareMed Travel Insurance and Hansemerkur!
