I had used Blurb for a while, so they have gotten quite a bit of business from me. When a booked photo orders were mangled after ordering a slightly larger book, I realized my mistake before it went to print, but they said it was too late. The quality is horrible. I am a professional photographer, and making sure the quality is top notch is very important to me. Thankfully there are many high quality companies at a fraction of the cost. Do your research.

Expensive and horrendous quality photobooks. The images printed (even on the “highest quality paper” as they call it) are the same bad as on the cheapest paper. You can see the printing lines, pixels and dots. I am using the highest resolution of my photos and is still useless. A blue sky turns out blue with white dots. The faces are a mumble jumble of tiny dots. I assume they use laser print and not ink, but still, how bad can you guys print? How come people are satisfied with this quality is beyond my comprehension. There are cheaper companies out there, like Smartphoto or Vistaprint who have REAL quality paper, thick and heavy, still not the greatest printing quality but deffinetly better than Blurb, and much cheaper for that matter. I am completely disgusted.
I will never ever use them for photobooks. And I would never recommend.

I created my book with difficulty over many days. There are numerous bugs in the software but when I described them to staff they 'couldn't reproduce them.'
Finally, I came to upload the book. Then I was asked lots of questions which I didn't know the answers to. I had a correspondence with them and found out that you had to sell your book for an enormous price plus profit, plus tax and plus shipping. Nobody was going to buy a book for approaching £150. But I bet it's set up so that Blurb get a good reward.
Every time you write to them they reply in a way that raises more questions and nothing is ever quite explained.
They talk nice to you but in the end they are scam artists. I'm going to delete my book now and always look in TrustPilot before I get into anything new. I'll probably give up now on publishing a book or putting my artwork on an online gallery. I've tried lots but they are all into nasty games.
And in case Blurb respond to my post in a negative manner I wish to make it abundantly clear that, nevertheless, Blurb are a bunch of artists. What sort of artists I leave to the imagination of the reader.

As a graphic student, I thought this would be a quicker yet professional way of getting a proof done for my project.
I would like to point out that the finish looks good and they have decent options for covers and paper.
However I found that I was very limited in my design choices.
I wanted to create a trade book, as this was the only size dimension that was appropriate for my project.
First thing, you cannot remove the Bar Code and cannot move it's position either. So your beautifully designed back cover will need to be altered or designed accordingly.
Images are a pain to load into the Book Wright software. Every single image in existence on my laptop was flagged as corrupt. So I had to upload these externally via dropbox. (Slowing you down).
Be aware that you cannot print anything on the inside front covers. This will be left white :( Which is a real shame.
This had great potential of being great software! But the lack of finesse has let them down entirely.
I am currently looking for a better alternative to Blurb.

Part 2 of my previous review and in response to Blurb’s response: Customer Service contacted me, after 5 emails over a course of 3 weeks and they only asked me to verify my shipping address and said they see the shipment is with USPS. That is not what I would call working on it or with me. I provided all the information needed, including my order number, and it should not take days to hear back from them after confirming my address. I responded immediately, to that request, and haven’t yet received a response. At this point, I’ve demanded either a refund or for Blurb produce my books, with expedited shipping. This level of customer service is unacceptable.

I ordered 2 lay-flat 7 inch books from Blurb. Each was around 80 pages, so quite a substantial project. They were volumes 1 and 2 of my Vietnam photos from a recent visit.
On arrival the covers were reversed, Volume one cover was on Volume two book and vice versa. In all other respects the job was great, but the covers being correct was important and I contacted Blurb’s support. An automated response came straight away. Lena, at Blurb, followed up with a personalised email three working days later to say that they were re-printing the job (no cost other than import duty - I guess this was because this time they were shipped from the USA).
The books arrived today, 8 days after my initial request.
I’m pleased with the way Blurb (and Lena) have handled this. No fuss, quick response. The books look great, just as they originally did, but with the correct covers. I’ll continue to use Blurb, obviously.

Absolutely disgusted in Blurb, problem after problem, no phone number to call and waiting days on end for a reply from customer service. I thought I’d resolved the issue and my book was reprinted however soon receiving it they had sent our yet another version that wasn’t correct! Poor customer service and a complete waste of money. I’m a BA student that has now had to submit and book that wasn’t correct. Thanks for potentially making me fail!

I'm surprised to see so many negative comments on here about Blurb. I've used them many times for several years and think they're great. I have had some issues uploading books from Lightroom but their support team have always been extremely helpful and prompt to respond. The price is a bit on the high side but the quality is good and usually they deliver fairly quickly. Never had a damaged book.

I have now used Blurb UK for 5 years. Since April 2014, I have purchased 24 photobooks, and the quality of the printing has always met or exceeded my needs. On one occasion, a package of two books was damaged in transit and after I emailed a picture of the smashed-up corners of the books to Blurb, they immediately reprinted them and sent the new copies to me, express, at no further charge. There’s no doubt that Blurb photobooks come at quite a high price, and I have no valid standard for price comparison with other suppliers. But no one need ever pay the list price because if you sign up to their emailed special offers, there’s almost an embarrassment of discounts to be had; unless you’re in a tearing hurry you can always wait for a few days to get the next routine 25% or 30% off a low-volume order of 1 or 2 copies. (Black Friday might well bring you 50% off if you can manage to wait until October.) Blurb’s own book creation tool, BookWright, is obviously capable, and it’s free to use, and relatively easy to learn. But I did abandon BookWright for a much more expensive option: when producing my latest work—basically a photobook but with a very large amount of text in it. For a large landscape format book with 240 pages with 880 images supplemented by over 73000 words, I used the Blurb plug-in for Adobe InDesign, which has much more capability in managing text. This is probably a prohibitively expensive option unless you are already a licensed Adobe user, but it’s worth recording that the InDesign plug-in worked flawlessly for me.

Whilst this appears to be a UK based company, the book I ordered came from the USA.
Book ordered 1 Dec 18 - arrived 6 Jan 19
I also ended up paying £13.38 customs and handling charge, making this very poor value. If you look carefully, it does mention customs charges on the site, but I thought it implied VAT was already added, therefore no customs charges.
The quality of the product is good, but there is better value for money from UK suppliers.

I spent hours setting up a book for a present to my daughter for xmas. I just finished the book and was checking through when i staters to get pop up messages asking for access for my computer's memory. I clicked to no three times. Then the whole project was slowly wiped off. i now cannot find it on the site.
Don't use them. I wasted probably 6 hours on this. Oh and no answer from the customer services.

I chose Blurb to print my self published photo book. I didn't have enough confidence to place a bulk order so wanted an option that would allow me to print in batches to meet demand as it came in. As it happens I could have got a much bigger discount by printing 100 and it turns out that I am selling well over 100 so lesson learned for next time.
For me, the quality and consistency of the printing has been excellent. I've had a lot of positive feedback from people who have bought the book, and the images look excellent. Overall I'm very pleased, the service they offer meets my needs and I will definitely be back when I publish my next book. The discounts for bulk printing make it viable.

My order still hasn’t arrived don’t get me wrong the price is great as well as creating the book but the worst part about this is waiting for your book to be delivered. I did try to message you but got nothing back. I ordered my book on 14 April and wasn’t expected to the 1st May but now it’s 3 days past that and still nothing has come.
My order number is 7142986

I can see why they have less than 2 stars here, shame on me I didn't checked them before I placed the order.
Order placed at the end of November, using one of their numerous promo code online ( I can now see why they have so many promo codes, just to lure customers into buying their products), order was for a Christmas present, you would think that printing and sending a book from the UK (or even within the EU) to the UK won't take more than 3 weeks even with second class stamps, I was wrong.
Although the website is clearly for the UK (blurb.co.uk) items are produced and shipped from outside the EU, but there is NO mention anywhere of this.
After their delivery timeline passed I contacted their support for a refund, and they refused to do so, offering me just a Promo code to use on their website, like I'm willing to order from them in the future.
For your printing need just use a proper UK firm

Did not deliver as promised through a combination of time to print and their contracted suppliers (shipping). Offered a derisory reimbursement of shipping costs without any sensitivity to the impact on my business.
Use this company at your peril.

I'd just like to point out that although there are many bad reviews of Blurb, I haven't had any experience of anything other than great service. Every year I order a book full of photos of my kids, of their past year.
Every year I use the Book Wright software and have had no issues (other than sometimes taking a long time to do due to the number of photos I put in there and using my old laptop).
I always try to use their offers (this year I used the 50% off code for Black Friday). Every year I am stunned by the quality of the book, and I will continue to use Blurb for my family books.
I had two instances of needing to contact support. The first time, I accidentally left a blank page right in the middle of my book which I didn't realise until I got my book delivered. Blurb gave me a code to re-order the corrected book, at no cost to me at all. The second time, I missed out on the Black Friday time limit by a few hours, and I was told I could try the code anyway, but if not they would create one for me.
I cannot recommend this company enough and I have had nothing but great service and a brilliant product. Now own 9 different books by Blurb and happy with every one of them!

AVOID! I wish I'd taken the advice of the reviews on here before ordering....
We ordered a large layflat and small layflat versions of our wedding album. In the Blurb BookWright softare when changing the large layflat version to smaller dimensions, it wasn't clear you had to re-convert it as layflat again. So even though I still selected layflat options when purchasing online, the wrong (non-layflat) books arrived. This was really disappointing as they were meant to be Christmas presents for family.
1) There is no phone to contact customer service! Blurb took over 24 hours to get back to my complaint through the forum. Their resolution was a discount code which was hardly different from the one running on the website anyway and wasn't as good as the one we'd originally used in the Black Friday deal.
2) The quality of the albums isn't great either - on the small original ones which arrived, some pages were glued together and teared when opened. The large layflat one has marks on the white spaces, and the resolution of the printed photos isn't as good as I would have expected.
3) We had to pay multiple shipping costs on our order as apparently different books are printed in different countries... Our friends also used Blurb and their order was stopped at US customs which they had to pay for too.
Please do not waste your time with this company!

Creating your own photo book, no matter which service you choose, is not to be taken on lightly. After spending hours (and days), working out how the book creator works and getting your photos just perfect, only to find that when the books arrive, they are not as you expect or as you created them. This was a painful experience I had with Blurb initially. You spend so much time with these tools, trying to understand them and get things right or almost right, it can be frustrating. You also feel locked into which ever book creator service provider you choose, as you have invested so much time trying to create the books with them, and are unwilling to start the process with another.
Sadly the first two books (a 50th and 70th birthday gift), did not arrive as I had created them. The Book Wright tool is just too clever and resized photos for you, even though you purposefully make them the size you want. After the initial - W T H - I contacted Blurb and amazingly, they did respond and responded timely (with a US time difference). They were sympathetic and provided me with the ability to reorder the books and some helpful tips on how to rectify the problems that arose.
I can't thank Blurb enough, I can now can give these book gifts.
Thank you Blurb.

I started printing my photobooks with Blurb a couple years ago and I stick with them since. I find Book Wright easy to manage. I like the options to create my own designs. They improved the delivery time from almost 2 weeks to a week. The quality of print if fine, sometimes maybe a little bit too dark tint. Recently my book had a ink smear (I never had this issue before ) on a couple of pages and I contacted the customer service with the complain, the next minute another copy was sent to me and arrived in a couple of days later.
I don't like the blue logo on the last page (would be nice to have a free option to print it in black - the option to delete the logo from the last page is too expensive).

Honestly the worst service I have ever received.
I produce a lot of publications and portfolios, which have been printed by several companies over the years. Without doubt Blurb has provided the worst service I have seen in my time. No email communication, canceling orders, delayed deliveries and poor customer service
To top it off, this foul service is provided at an extortionate rate.
What a joke.

Ordered two Photobooks for wedding and honeymoon very happy with them, delivery was quick and responses to emails. Only thing i would say it takes a long time to download books for printing and you also really need to watch the lining up of photos so there are no gaps. Would order again.

Very odd company wishing to be faceless and don't want to face customers as a real company? Ordered my first mag to test their quality before I allow my customers to buy and the quality is very bad. All the high resolution images are grainy. They also inserted 17 pages of another magazine in the back of mine which is very, very concerning as I now have their content printed in mine its embarrassing and laughable that they are allowed to operate. I would not use this company as they will give your customers this level of service and make your brand look really bad. I asked for a refund and they said no and asked me to send images of the pages that are grainy. So not even an offer of a replacement due to the fact that they inserted 17 pages from another magazine that has nothing to do with mine? So pleased that it was not a customer that ordered. I feel sorry for the magazine company who doesn't know this. I will keep you posted as the next step will be to report them to PayPal if they don't send a replacement. So pleased I used PayPal and not my debit card as debit card companies don't help you get your money back but PayPal do or at least offers better support and protection.
