I find it ridiculous the way they provide their services. I subscribed to the "7 day free trial" and after adding in my credit card details I figured I could just cancel it within 7 days. Nope! I couldn't find an option ANYWHERE to cancel the subscription. So, I had to resort to CANCELING my credit card because support wouldn't contact me back! Don't even think about using this trash VPN. I'm also positive that the premium version and free version both SELL YOUR DATA! Don't even waste your time with this complete scam!

I can't unsubscribe, got charged for 7-day FREE trial, hadn't used it since the second day I got it. Almost impossible to cancel the subscription and no way to call either. Awful company and a fat scam.

They don't even deserve 1 star, they make it really hard to cancel your subscription, I had to end up sending 10 messages(no exaggeration) to their support team in order to get it cancelled, they ignored my first 3 attempts which were all about 1 month apart so ive ended up wasting three months subscription on this !! Its a down right scam and avoid at all costs ! In the end I had to resort to spamming them to get them to respond. Absolutely shocking.

Worst VPN I have ever used. What is the purpose of using the VPN when all your browsing is suddenly stopped or too slow? They should work on their software instead of working on cool marketing techniques. The customer service is not responsive and thanks to God that I only take a one month subscription. Please beware of buying this piece of garbage.

T&Cs on installation require that:
"If you choose to use the free Service, Betternet may deliver third-party advertisements (“Advertisements”) to you."
This isn't really what VPN is about, nor do they mention the advertisements in their 'how do we make money' section.

Downloaded Betternet (free version) for Windows, started it, connected and immidiately noticed a severe performance drop regarding my connection speed.
Went and did a speedtest which showed me 8Mb/s dl and even less ul.
Got the premium version thinking that it might be better, but things just got worse, now it povided me a dl of <4Mb/s and ul so slow the test didnt even go half way thru in 5 minutes.
Conclusion is, that the free version sucks and the paid version sucks twice as much.
Further, you have to register with a creditcard to get the "Free 7 day trial" as a premium customer.
Once you register, you cant cancel the registration, not in the windows app or on their website.
I suspect that once the 7 days are up, they will just pull the cash from my card and by then enable a function to let me cancel the subscription.
So far I emailed them and demanded they cancel my subscription as the product is simply unusable due to slow connection and massive lag.
Oh and regarding speedtest.net, when I run it without using Betternet, my dl is 111Mb/s and ul is 98Mb/s.
They really should change the name from Betternet to Worsenet.

It's a free VPN with a premium plan, a Canadian company. They do allow torrent traffic - it's rather slow in my personal experience but what do you expect? They are also ad supported in a similar fashion to Hotspot Shield and have an Android version available. According to their FAQ, they keep logs of who is connected but don't log what you download. If that makes you uneasy I'd recommend instead using a paid VPN as you won't find a free one that doesn't log. This may be okay for occasionally accessing sites that block certain countries, but I can't recommend any free VPN for regular use.

The free BetterNet VPN for iPad sometimes connects to a server located in the UK that is powered by uk2.net, which has poor community reviews and is allegedly engaged in SSH intrusions and the hosting of malware and spam. The VPN also sometimes connects to a server hosted by Westhost, which was under fire for sending logs to Homeland Security, and possibly other spying agencies. The Chrome VPN is also guilty of similar privacy issues. I ran a leak test for multiple Betternet servers and the detected DNS addresses were all hosted by Google, so that's another minus if you're looking for privacy.
In terms of encryption, the VPN servers use 3DES_CBC/HMAC_SHA1_96/PRF_HMAC_SHA1/MODP_1024, which is inadequate based on Snowden's documents.
If I were you, I would visit ipleak, net, whatismyipaddress.com, and ip2location.com to verify the IP and the domain linked to the server you're connected to, then do a background check. If the domain is insecure, try reconnecting until you're connected to a secure server. Free doesn't come without a cost! "
