We enjoyed the Medieval Treasures Wine Cruise very much. The excursions, food and service on the boat were very good. AMA scheduled our flights from the US. There was one major problem on our return. We were not aware that the Customs Office In Toronto, Canada closes at 9 pm. We missed getting home with our luggage by 5 minutes. Unaware of this, we were quite dismayed after traveling all day from Nuremberg to Frankfurt to Toronto. We missed the flight to Philadelphia, where our car was parked. It took four days to get our luggage from Air Canada!
My recommendation for AMA is avoid scheduling so many transfers and to allow plenty of time in case of flight delays, bad weather and long lines in security. Also avoid flights in the late afternoon in Toronto which are overbooked and leave no choice but to stay in a hotel when flights are delayed.

THEY ARE FIRST CLASS

I have taken two cruises with AMA. The first was the Tulip Time cruise on the AMA CERTO in April of 2017. Everything about that cruise was 5 stars or more.
The second cruise was this past December on the AMA PRIMA. It was the Christmas Markets cruise and was the last cruise of the season. The service was about three stars and the food less. I think the problems were that the entire crew was ready for their vacations. For this reason, I would not recommend booking the last couple of weeks of the year.
I will be cruising with them again in October of this year on the Mekong. Since my first cruise with them was so good, I wanted to give them another shot.

This was our first river cruise and I told out travel agent that I simply could not find one thing to complain about! We had done a couple of ocean cruises years ago, kind of avoided this bit, but had heard good things about the river cruises, and Ama in particular.
Ship: This is a new ship in 2016 and the decor is upscale and comfortable. Plenty of upper deck space with comfortable furniture, large inside lounge with plenty of space, and two dining rooms (regular and a small specialty room that you can reserve at no extra charge. They have two really upscale coffee machines so you could do coffee or tea anytime.
Food: The cuisine was way better than I expected it to be. For breakfast I can;' think of anything they don't have... smoked salmon, omelets, eggs Benedict, pancakes, waffles, fruit, cereals, and a cold smoothie that was different everyday. They have one person who only bakes during the night, so all the baked good were tasty and fresh. Lunches included a buffet (salads, etc.) as well as a menu to order an entree, soup (the cream soups were divine), etc. Dinners were very pleasant with plenty to choose from. Wine and beer are free with lunch and dinner and poured generously. Desserts were great and they always have three flavors of ice cream to choose from as well. The specialty restaurant seats like 26 people, is located at the upper rear of the ship and delivered a great multi-course meal in a very pleasant space. You simply sign up for the night you'd like to go as the desk (no extra charge). There are snacks available anytime plus a tea in the afternoon, late nights snacks about 10:30, etc.
Service: is impeccable from the cabin attendants, to the bar and restaurant staff, and the front desk/bursar. First class personnel with very good fluency in English.
Tours: are all included; there are no extra charges and more than one choice each day. On this Rhine cruise, it looks like all the lines go to the same places pretty much. We loved Strasbourg, Cologne, and Heidelberg. The stops in smaller townswere pleasant as well; the guides and coach drivers were all very professional.
Cost: Our one-week cruise was about $4,000 each ($575/day). The only extras were drinks in the bar, spa, gift shop, and laundry (we did laundry once and it was very reasonable as are the bar prices). This market has skyrocketed so there are many lines to choose from. We would go straight back to Ama if we do another one... and likely will. If you use a travel agent, try the get prepaid gratuities included so you don't have to foll with than on board. We did travel insurance on our own separately.
Entertainment: was a nice mix of a very good female vocalist one evening, a really good accordion/female vocalist duo (I know that sounds weird but they were excellent), and a trio comprised of two violins and a guitar-- also really good. Every night one of the staff played dance music and a good group of folks would come each night for that.
Conclusion: All the river ships are basically the same size because of the locks, so have about 150+ passengers and 50 crew. We really liked that it was so easy to meet fellow passengers and the vibe among all of the folks on board (passengers + staff) was most pleasant. I was a bit concerned that I'd get bored, but that was not the case at all. There was plenty to choose from each day, or you could do your own thing in the stops, including stay on the ship for the day. We had a wonderful week and hope do go on another sooner than later

We loved the trip. The staff, the room, and the food were all excellent. Gabriella, who served most of our meals, was a delight. She was always cheerful and attentive to our needs. Awan, also a server in the dining room, was excellent and kept us laughing with his great sense of humor. Diana , who was the housekeeper for our room, did a marvelous job. Christian at Reception was very helpful. We wish that the pre-tour talks had given a bit more detail about the places we were going to tour the next day. A couple of the guides were somewhat rude at times, but most were informative and friendly. Hans, our Dutch guide, was especially good. The wine tour in Rudesheim with a 5th-generation member of a wine-producing family, also named Hans, was our favorite tour. The tour of Strasbourg was less satisfactory - we spent most of the day driving through the streets in a bus and only a few minutes actually walking in the town. All in all, we were quite satisfied and hope to do another trip with AMA sometime.

My wife and I prefer small ship sailing over the big ships. You can sit in your room, at a meal or on the deck and still enjoy the cruise and view the city or countryside as you go. For the most part, you only see the land on a big ship when you come to port, and someone has their hand out to show you what else their is. The rivers are used as their main avenue for transport of everything [people, ore, coal, gases etc.]. People live on the river and the ports are downtown so the main sites are handy [churches, pubs whatever]. No rocking to the boat so sea sickness is not an issue. Go ahead and enjoy, you only pass this way once [I think].

Could not have asked for more or better! The boat was beautiful and excellent and the accommodations fresh, clean and comfortable. The food was constant and always delicious. But the very best thing was the crew, from the Captain to everyone else. A true team effort in every endeavor and great to watch. They attended our every want and need. Traveling with a group of 8, we encountered a couple of "incidents" neither of which were the fault of the ship or crew. On one occasion, the crew literally went overboard for us (one of our group dropped her purse overboard and the 2d captain literally jumped in the Rhine to try to retrieve it). Also, a member of our group fell and hurt his leg. The crew jumped into action and took him to a hospital in the middle of the night, acted as interpreter and did all in their power to make him comfortable for the rest of the journey. This accident required multiple visits to medical facilities in different towns and the crew was always there, making things as easy as possible--always at his side. I take pleasure in recommending AMA to everyone and could not have asked for more in any respect. I have cruised numerous times around the world but AMA will be my "go to" for all future adventures on the water. Thank you AMA and all the crew on AMACerto! Excellent. See you next time.

Since our trip in May of 2016 , I have shared our excellent experience on AMA waterways with over 20 of our friends and family. Your staff was polite ,friendly and always anticipated our needs .The food was incredibly prepared with such detail , presentation and flavor. The special dinner reserved dinner at the back of the ship was excellent. Thank you for including this special opportunity for the passengers to meet the chef and the waiters in a very small intimate atmosphere.
The excursions on land were filled with fun, adventure and entertainment. Local guides were friendly and such historians. At the same time,we
often felt we were a part of guide's family. They wanted us to enjoy the sites and know about the best local places to eat and shop. The only exception was our first day altered bus route excursions in Budapest. The passengers were so much more flexible and understanding than the local guides. In the big picture, our cruise director Peter had honestly prepared us for the changes that occurred in Budapest , he was always on site and tried beyond our expectations to smooth out the wrinkles of the excursion. The passengers were always first in his eyes and did we all appreciate his thoughtfulness, wit, knowledge and people friendly skills.
AMA is certainly a cruise line that we will use again and continue to recommend. I am a fabric and water color artist . I look forward to inquiring about art excursions as well as trips to Barcelona and Italy.
Happy Sailing AMA ! You exceptionaly shined in our Virginian eyes with radiance and grace during our trip down the gently flowing Danube river .

This was our third+ river cruise and the second with AMA the first was with Uniworld. Both the AMA cruises surpass the Uniworld experience the food on AMA the first cruise was just as good as the second and far superior to the Uniworld cruise. The amenities of this last AMA cruise were only slightly better than the first AMA cruise and again superior to the Omniworld. The tours are incredible and well done and we also did the before add on with 2 nights in Zurich and 2 nights in Lucerne Switzerland and the hotels were 5 stars way better than the first AMA cruise. All we can say is they are getting even better that's a fine direction we will come back to AMA.

We had the best experience with AMAWaterways that you could wish for.
Our cruise director was the best in the business. Even with river flooding we were able to see all the locations that were advertised. There had to be a number of work arounds but with the hard work of the cruise director and captain along with the home office all the problems posed by the rain and flooded river was worked out.

In a crowded open seating environment Katrina blocked us from seating on a table she was reserving for some other guests, consequently she ruined our dinner and possibly the trip. Overall me and my wife were very please with everything else during the trip.

The whole experience from our arrival and stay in Paris through the river cruise on the Mosel, Rhine, Main, and Main Danube Canal, and finishing with 2 days in Prague was glorious. Every detail was first rate. The tours were very informative and extensive. The food and wine were spectacular. Donna and I highly recommend AMA Waterways.

We spent four days visiting Zurich and lake Luzern by bus and boat with excellent guides!
We arrived at Bezel for embakation on the AMA Certo. From here we received a VIP treatment that lasted to the end of the cruise!
The cruise Mgr made the whole trip very enjoyable and safe(we are senior citizens). During the walk tours off the boat, guides were very patient with us usually dividing fast and slow walkers.
I recommend this cruise to any one who appreciates high class treatment!

AmaWaterways exceeded our expectations in every possible way! Their attention to detail is unsurpassed. Jelena, our Cruise Mgr, was there for us at all hours and very knowledgeable. Christian, our Hotel Mgr, was there to do anything that needed to be done...and with a smile. Every staff member was personable and absolutely ready to serve your every need, including hand polishing the stair steps. The dining room staff members were so entertaining that you looked forward to every meal. And speaking of meals, the food was absolutely delicious. Loved the 24 hour coffee bar! The tour organization was outstanding, thanks to Jelena. It was definitely a bucket list trip. Don't hesitate booking with AmaWaterways.
