I have bought books from this website a couple times and it has never let me down. I always receive them in short time and in great condition for very reasonable prices. The process is all very simple and straight forward and I appreciate how up to date their website is, constantly refreshing as new copies become available or old ones are sold.
I think that most of the negative reviews have less to do with Abe Books and more to do with the third parties selling the books, so it is always a good idea to take this into consideration.

After reading reviews here I was a little hesitant, but I took the gamble and ordered a nearly 30 year old book from this company. The book arrived exactly or better than described. The book smelled new! There was one minor blemish on the dust jacket but the book itself was mint (book was better condition than described). Thank you so much for this collector's edition find.

I actually had a pretty good experience with Abebooks. When I contacted them they responded and my order came just fine. I don't really know why people are complaining and giving bad reviews.

Nobody ships to Australia anymore!!! I just received my book all the way "down under". Very happy with my purchase, it came quickly (only 16 days from order). Not sure if this review goes to IrishBooksellers (which I thought was in Ireland :D) turns out they are in the USA. Great service both then! Cheers!

I'm a loyal customer of Abebooks and Irish Booksellers and I always received great service. They package books in boxes which many other seller don't do, and sip on time. I ordered from other marketplaces before, and my books always came late, sometimes even a month late! This is why I keep ordering from Irish Booksellers because their books arrive in 3-4 days. Thank you!

Fantastic service.In these extreme times I must say what great service I recieved. It was my first time on this site bought 7 books and all arrived super quick and in great condition. I don't understand why Abebooks has negative reviews, I have found staff to be extremely helpful and prompt with deliveries etc. I would not hesitate to purchase from them again. And as a FYI I had a missing book, no issues with Abe they were extremely helpful. I will continue to purchase 2nd hand books from Abe and advise others to do same. From one happy customer Lauren.

So, Abebooks uses a bunch of different vendors and stores to find you what you are looking for, which is wonderful. Most of the complaints I see are about people buying from shady vendors. I bought two books, but researched who I was buying from before doing so. I recommend doing the same. It's a small amount of footwork done to ensure you're buying from a quality vendor. Both of my books arrived ahead of schedule, with no issues. Just save yourself some hassle and do a little research about who you're buying from. With that being said, if you're willing to take the extra step, Abebooks is pretty awesome

I purchased a book on algae taxonomy that has been out of print for 50 years. The book I received came from the Library of Congress surplus inventory. It was in pristine condition, and inside the book cover, I found a note from the author. I couldn't be more satisfied. The bookseller was Boards & Wraps.

At first I was alarmed about receiving the right book because of all the bad and negative reviews I read. But my order came a whole lot sooner than the expected arrival date. I have used ABE for about ten years. There are a considerable number of corporate sellers on the site, but that's true, unfortunately, of all sites these days. I try to stick with small business sellers. Keeping communication open is a good idea, which is true with any book seller.
I enjoy shopping on ABEBooks. I recommend it.

Abebooks is the best place to find out-of-print books to buy. The site lists books available from independent booksellers in a number of countries. I've been able to find and buy all kinds of out of print books, that you can't easliy find elsewhere. The booksellers have all been helpful and I've got my books quickly in the condition described in the listings.When you order through abebooks, you are ordering from an individual seller, so check their rating and reviews before ordering from them. I have had NO problems with any or my orders over the years.

I only recently discovered Abe Books within the last month. My experience may not be the same as others, but I have had nothing but positive experiences with them, and that includes ordering around two dozen books. All deliveries successful, all the books in good shape. No issues, just easy. I've used Amazon before and they have also been reliable, but the reason I'm ordering from Abe Books is because they tend to be a bit lower in cost and better about free shipping. So reliability and lower cost, that's a winner in my book. BTW, I have no affiliation with Abe Books, I'm just someone who appreciates their service and sharing that perspective.
