I ordered Warhol by David Bourdon. The book was dirty. Get this, it even had a card for "Homeless Heath Care Los Angeles" The inside cover looked like it had dried blood spots or dead bugs. Disgusting. I don't even want to touch it.

Ordered an electronics book through Abebooks, the bookseller was "Bookdeals" from Lakewood Colorado. I paid for 3-6 day shipping. I contacted Abebooks 5 days later when I noticed my book hadn't even been shipped yet. All Abebooks does is automatically forward your email to the seller. I looked at their policies for shipping, returns, refunds etc and they all refer to the seller for these. The seller eventually contacted me saying he contacted Abebooks to learn how to do a PayPal purchase. I told them my PayPal account information. At this point it was 10 days out from purchase date. The seller eventually pulled the money from my PayPal. I asked that since I paid extra for faster shipping which had not been met, that they expediate my shipping. The seller then refunded my PayPal charge with no communication. Needed this book in a timely manner and wasted 2 weeks with Abebooks. Wish I checked this website first!

RIP off. Stay away, they do not send the books, but are happy to take your money. Do not buy from them.

Complete rip off. Missed the delivery date by two weeks. When I reached out to them they claimed they couldn't trace the shipment which was laughable. They offered a refund. CONFIRMED the processing of that refund via an email. Nearly three weeks have passed from them and the refund has never been processed. Each reach out to them has been met with the standard "fill out this form and we will get back to you". STAY AWAY FROM THESE GUYS, SOMEONE IS LINING THEIR POCKETS WITH FAKE TRANSACTIONS.

I ordered four books. Two came without incident although it took nearly two weeks for them to get to me. One book never arrived. The shipping label was created but the item was never delivered to USPS. The last book never came, they sent a similar book, not the book I ordered.

So, Abebooks uses a bunch of different vendors and stores to find you what you are looking for, which is wonderful. Most of the complaints I see are about people buying from shady vendors. I bought two books, but researched who I was buying from before doing so. I recommend doing the same. It's a small amount of footwork done to ensure you're buying from a quality vendor. Both of my books arrived ahead of schedule, with no issues. Just save yourself some hassle and do a little research about who you're buying from. With that being said, if you're willing to take the extra step, Abebooks is pretty awesome

WARNING! Do not buy or sell books to ABE Books or Text Book Rush (same company). They are a scam company that is out to take advantage of students. If you sell books to them, they don't pay you the quoted price. If you accidentally send the wrong book—they don't pay you anything and keep the book! They are stealing from people. Don't trust them. There is no customer service phone line either. ABE Books or Text Book Rush is an unethical business that cheats people.

I received a code from them that I never got to use and I contact them and they've been giving me excuses after excuse. I suggest to try another place that does better business than this place.
glenthebookseller-ordered paid extra expedited ship. sent it bulk media mail.came late~refused asked for FULL refund. only refunded book. not extra shipping. This is how they make money. BEWARE OF ABE BOOKS! NEVER AGAIN. If I could rate it a 0 I would. They obviously do not check out the reseller or back up the customer when they have a problem. They pass the buck. Your loss ABE. I am posting this where ever I can. Hopefully it will help one customer somewhere. Its the principle of it. I lost money trying to get a book for my daughter on time. They should back up the customer. I have been a customer since 2012 and they don't care. GOOD BYE ABEBOOKS. Thanks for nothing.

I ordered a book for school that in the description said it came with a access code. It did not. I went through the refund process and this was the nightmare. I sent an email to abebooks trying to start the process. I did not hear from them for 3 days. Then, they had to email the bookstore that contracting the sell out to. Let's just say it's been 3 weeks and I didn't even get my entire refund back. NIGHTMARE!

I buy books from Abebooks frequently. I have yet to have any problems. They have old and hard to find books. The prices are good.
I like how you can get books from the U.S, Europe and other nations.
They send you the book, the one you ordered, in a timely manner. If you have to wait for international shipping, oh well.
I buy books from Abebooks on average every 2 weeks. They have always been a good solid company to buy books from.
I think of Abebooks as Etsy, just with a focus on books.
Personally, this is how I rank book sellers (I buy lots of books on line)
1. (Tie) Abebooks and Etsy
3. Barnes and Noble
4. EBay only if there is no other option.

I ordered the fiction book in English from the site Abebooks to Kazakhstan. Then they didn't remind me that this book is not availability. Then after two days I asked my track number and I wrote how to track my book. But no answer. There was a template answer: The bookseller is unresponsive ..... like that. and today after 18 days they wrote me that book will not come and we are so sorry, and they processed me a refund. I work in a library, and today I had to restore this book. That's why, be careful, if you order this book you will get no feedback only a template message: "So sorry the bookseller is unresponsive",P I didn't get any right messages to my question. Every sentence in the template messages began with "SORRY" .That is the fault all of you.You can't work with a bookseller even you can't get messages for 18 days. Abebooks team you are all unresponsive, even you can't send a message by your words, it means that you don't care about your clients, and maybe you will get no books like me.

Don't for a moment think that the shipping times you are given at the time of ordering is real. It's a joke. Typically, this is called false advertising; at AbeBooks, I have a feeling, it's called business practice. Never again.

I agree with these reviewers. I purchased a book from AbeBooks in early September. The seller is Murray Media. The book has not arrived yet.
I spoke to a USPS representative yesterday and was told that the UPS tracking number provided on the AbeBooks website is invalid. The post office does not have the package.
I’ve contacted the bookseller twice and have received no response. I also contacted AbeBooks Customer Service and have not received a satisfactory response. All they sent was a standard response.
In doing some research, I found out that Murray books is a listed as a book jacker.
It seems that I’m going to have to count this as a loss. Pity, I got scammed.
I will not be purchasing anymore books from AbeBooks.

Abe Books . . .Thank you!!
I have had an account with them for several years and I completely trust them.
The books are second-hand but most of the books are like new or in excellent condition. They serve as a portal for secondhand independent booksellers.
The last two books I purchased were more used, but they are from very old editions. But the price makes up for it.
Their prices per book for international shipments are low.
Maybe there is a three week delay for the books, but the shipments are usually international and this compensates us with low shipping rates.
I bought books from Abe that in other online stores would have cost me 60 percent more.
When I have ask them any questions about the shipment, they answer me immediately.
Abebooks booksellers guarantee every purchase and you are eligible for a full refund including purchase, shipping if your book gets lost or your return is due to an error on the bookseller´s part.
I recommend AbeBooks and the stores associated with them

I ordered two textbooks one month ago. For the first book I ordered, I have not been given any tracking number and even though I have asked the company repeatedly to give me one, I haven't received any answer. Furthermore I have contacted the abebooks customer service to address this irresponsibility from the seller and I haven't received A SINGLE ANSWER IN A WEEK.
The second book I bought is from an Indian company which ostensibly had a maximal rating. The book was supposed to be over 800 pages, A4 format and over 1 kg. Although I paid extra charges for the 1 kg, not only was the book less than 1 kg, it was also a printed pdf with a paperback attached to it with a A5 format. Fair enough, at least it does the job you must say; well no, because the characters are so small, the book cannot be read.
At this point you must be saying that there may be some shady vendors out there. However abebooks does not do what it is supposed to do- regulate the relationship between buyer and seller. Instead it chooses to let customers resolve their own problems, and often without success.

UNBELIEVABLE!!!!! I recently mailed them an $80 college textbook that I had just finished using because they quoted me a buyback price of $42.65. I recently received an email from them stating that "the book was not an authorized copy" and they are "seizing it" and will NOT issue my payment or return MY book back to me. SERIOUSLY?! It is MY book...I mailed it to you in good faith that you were sending me a check for it. Literally they could turn around and resell my book for a huge profit...clever little scam GrrRRRrrrrrrr

STAY AWAY from AbeBooks & Irish-Booksellers! Waited over a month for Irish-booksellers to ship my book, never provided a tracking number and constantly told me to "be patient". Complete scammer, DO NOT BUY FROM THEM! Support from AbeBooks non-existent, they support this type of behavior.

Last month I ordered four books; a nice good-looking box set of The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings. This site offered the cheapest price around, so long as I made an account. The arrival was supposed to be within 17-19 days. Around the 22nd day, still no books, so I sent in a ticket to the seller asking if there was a tracking number. Maybe the ETA was just off, y'know? But I don't get an answer from the seller, I get an answer from customer service. I wondered why I got CS and not the seller, so I look back to the seller's account... and it's been labeled a bot... My kinda luck, right?
So CS tells me they can reship or refund. I figured I'd give them a chance and asked for a reship. Was told it'll show up on my doorstep in 4-6 days.
Skip over Sunday and Memorial Day for obvious postal service reasons, I waited a few days extra just in case. I sent in another reply asking, "Hey, is there a tracking number this time around for this reshipment? The books still aren't here." The response I got? In a nutshell, the bozo goes: "The item you ordered SUDDENLY WENT OUT OF STOCK. It's available now. Would you like a reship or a refund?"
...Why the [bleep] was it out of stock that quickly? Why was I not told it was out of stock? Why not send my money to one of the other listing sellers and ship it from them? I don't know how this is supposed to work out, but I AT LEAST should have been told it wasn't available. Unless each of these listed sellers are all bots too! I get it's a popular book series, but c'mon! "Suddenly out of stock"kiss the darkest part of my backside, buddy...
There's no Third Time's A Charm with me on this. I waited a month, I just want my books, and I'll be going to B&N for them. Might be a tad more expensive, just by a few dollars, but at least I know they'll get it here and it'll get here fast. I'd be surprised if I actually do get my refund, though. It'll be the only honest thing about this site. I'll be cancelling that account immediately afterwards in case they try nicking my card information.
UPDATE: There is a refund policy. It can only happen within 30 days of your purchase. When I got my second e-mail back from them, it was day 31, which I think was intentional on their part since my second e-mail to them was about day 28, 29.

I ordered a textbook with expected delivery in 5-8 business days. After 12 business days passed, I called AbeBooks - no one is available on the weekend. I submitted an online claim - their website claimed they would reply within 2 business days, however, they replied in 4 business days. Their email response stated the "USPS lost the book in transit," and they would refund my purchase price (obviously - but that doesn't help I'm overdue needing the book for class). A follow-up email from AbeBooks claimed the reason for return was "bookseller accepted order in error." I'm not sure why their rationale changed, but it adds to my perception of their untrustworthyness - I will not be ordering from AbeBooks again.
