I usually do not report a hotel / resort on social media. I just share my experiences with my family and friends and I will, of course, recommend the place to them if it is good.
However, after a very scary experience at Victoria Nui Sam Lodge in Vietnam, I think it is necessary to warn against this resort's safety.
We were 3 families that traveled together. Two of the families chose to keep their cash in the rooms safe box. As it turned out, this wasn’t a good choice and some of the money “disappeared”. The most scary part was that the safe box had no sign of being broken in to. It's hard to imagine how our money could disappear from a locked safety box with a digital code.
In addition, whoever stole the money were very cunning. They only took part of the cash, so it wouldn’t be discovered right away. We discovered that we were missing a sum of cash after we were checked out of the hotel and had already moved on to another city following our itinerary. We had kept a running account of all our expenses and I was double checking this.
I could do nothing but call the hotel and ask to speak with the hotel manager. The first receptionist who took the phone said that the manager was busy. I called again later and spoke to another receptionist who asked me to hang on. But after several minutes of waiting I was still "on hold". I hung up and tried to call again, but nobody took the phone. I tried to dial up a total of 4 times, but without luck. They probably recognized my number and would not answer my calls. Then I asked my sister-in-law to call for me from another number and she came through to the manager's assistant. I told the assistant about the incident and she asked me to send an email to their hotel manager, which I did.
The hotel manager answered my email within a short time. It was as if he had been waiting for my mail and was prepared for it. The hotel manager wrote that he was sad that we lost our money and that he would investigate the matter more closely and return. The next day, I received an email from the hotel manager. He answered that they had investigated their entire security procedure, but unfortunately they could not find our money and would contact me if the money should appear in their "lost & found". Very stupid answer I thought, how would the money ever appear in their "lost & found" if someone had deliberately taken it from a locked safety box!
With this review, I not only wish to make future guests at Victoria Nui Sam Lodge aware that they should take great care of their values but also to express my suspicion of the hotel security because who else would have access to a master key for the hotel's room Safes?
