DO NOT HIRE FROM THEM!!! Picked up from FARO airport. Watch this space! Literally sitting on the plane having dropped the car off where the company are trying to claim for a scratch we did not do!! I wish I’d read the reviews before had!!!! The car had damage on it when we picked it up and I was assured it was all recorded correctly. Mad as hell we didn’t take a video of it all (as we’ve done in the past)!! Now dropping the car off where they say a 2inch dent was not recorded I’ve explained I pointed it out when we picked it up but they refuse to accept this. It’s written down too but they deny it’s the same scratch and dent and say it’s new!! OMG they are scamming people!! QUESTION What can we do about this when we get back to the UK!??? You can’t cancel your credit card as you authorise payment on collection of the car.

After I returend my car they charged me for two damages I did not produce and was literally told since the beggining that had no problem. After they charge you they cut the conversation. The worst custumer expweriance ever. AVOID

Do not use...I agree with so many of the comments below - being assured when taking out the car (in the dark) that all the scratches I pointed out were minor and non-chargeable and now they are going to charge 750 euro for a scratch damage I did not do. From all the comments they are definitely targeting people who don't take their insurance. I've got separate insurance excess cover so this isn't about the money. It's to highlight whats going on.
I'm so angry. I'll never use again, and that's after 10 years of renting cars regularly on my travels. SCAMMERS!!!! I have all the paperwork to prove I'm right and charging them back on my visa card.

If you're reading this, don't rent with them. I paid for FULL insurance, drove the car for 7 hours, and returned it on the same day. They returned my deposit days later, and yet the following week I received an email claiming that there was an interior "burn" mark on the door of the driver's side rear seat, not covered by my insurance. The cost for the repair bill - 1000 Euros. Of course, I had never even been in the rear of the car. The damage, if real, was there beforehand. These people are criminals, plain and simple.

Unfortunately my experience was not different from several others' here. During pick up, they assure you only major damages matter; at check-in, they inspect the car as if they were going to buy the car and go after prior damage that was unrecorded and that the employee at pick-up assured me it was relative to a line that contained an asterisk (") in lieu of the location of the damage.
Also, the roll used to cover the trunk contents was cracked on the side and wouldn't stay in place. I was also told those interior things didn't matter; the inspector went straight for it at delivery; he only checked the side that was broken and didn't look at the other side. It's hard to not suspect he already knew. In summary, avoid at all costs. As many others, I also have insurance that covers any possible charges that may arise from this; however, it's a matter of principle.

Car rental was ok, vehicle was not very comfortable, despite being upgraded saloon.
Major issue arose when I returned the car in good condition. They claimed that we scratched a part of the rim and tore a part of the tire. Though we had no recollection of the event and could not confirm or deny that it happened on our watch, they went on to bill us 498euros, more than double the cost of the rental and conveniently 2 dollars below the deductible.
Total sham - this is obviously how they make profits from their rental. Do not trust, shady company.

In September I rented a car at Lisbon Airport. I pay for full insurance. I was given a brand new Seat Ibiza that worked wonderful. There was absolutely no problem returning the car. The best impression remained. Later, I received an extra bill of around 10 euro for toll roads. That's it.
Maybe the problem is saving at the expense of insurance?in any case, Sixt at Lisbon Airport does not deserve such a bad rating.

Worst experience and worst company EVER!!!
We booked a car to be picked up at 8pm but our flight was delayed and we arrived at Lisbon airport the next morning. Unfortunately, we were told that we were not able to get our reserved car and we needed to pay 170 euro in addition for any other car, while the online reservation was completed for less than 50 euro. The employees were totally unfriendly and not helpful, AT ALL!

Hired 7seater car from faro airport. Took full insurance. Returning the car in the same condition as I got. Didn’t get the closing statement. I was informed there will be no problem because I had full insurance. After 10 days got an invoice for €470.00 for loosing luggage compartment cover. Luckily the officer who served us remembered of the item missing. Spent lots of time and many emails they realised their mistakes. They should have made internal inquiries before invoicing. Bad experience. Don’t hire from Sixt.

Definitely do not rent a car from SIXT in Portugal! I rent a car from them and was charged for 300 euro because they said I lost the luggage separator which I have never seen! And they never asked you to examine the car before you drive it out. After I found out so many people share similar experiences, I started to think they are running a fraud company.

They are an absolute disgrace to deal with. Most expensive car hire and ingenious approach to additional fees. We hired a car for €326 and ended up paying €537 (plus €300 deposit on top of that) with all the hidden fees at pick up at the airport. Will definitely not use them again and would advise to avoid at all costs!

Like so many reviews below, I have been scammed regarding damage to the car. Upon return to Porto the car was examined in depth and no damage was found.
Eleven days later they then claim damage had occurred to the car during my rental, citing photos taken at the time of the cars return. This was not the case as the car was returned filthy and the car shown in the photos was clean.
No response to date from Customer Services. This has to be the WORST car hire company I have ever dealt with. DO NOT USE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, UNLESS YOU WANT TROUBLE AND POOR SERVICE.

Just as shady and untrustworthy as some other smaller car rental companies that you hear horror stories about, the only difference is they charge a lot more, that however doesn't reflect in the way they treat their customers.
Their internal communication is terrible, clueless employees tell you something on the spot, and you will get an email later on about the total opposite. Absolute lack of quality control.
Unsubstantiated claims, unexplained charges, and absolutely no chance for a decent communication. Email answers with one sentence, or no answer at all. No apology or anything whatsoever for clearly making mistakes, unacceptable.
Would have expected much more from a company that represents itself worldwide, as it is now, it's a disgrace.

I rented a vehicle through a internet company RENTAL CARS.COM for collection at Lisbon Airport on 13/01/2019 to be returned on 20/01/2019, the supplying company was SIXT @ Lisbon airport, on collection all was ok there was some confusion over an upgrade and a vehicle that had bald tyres so i eventually got a Renault Captur Registration number 28 US 92. Drove the car for the 7 days without issue and without fault. Returned the car on 20/01/2019 and as i am a frequent renter of vehicles I waited for my receipt. The examiner checked the vehcle in and no additional damage or faults were noted, i obtained a receipt and left for the UK. Approximately 2 to 3 weeks later i disposed of any paperwork from my portugal trip, i realize with hindsight should i have kept these items this problem would not have continued to this stage. Five weeks later i received an email from SIXT saying that there had been a computer error and the delay in contacting me was due to the error, they stated that when the vehicle was returned it had additional damage on it, they provided photo's and a receipt and also an estimate for repair. The receipt was completely different to the one i had signed on the 20/01/2019 and some of the marks from the initial rental that were on the car when i collected it and when i returned it were absent. This is a completely fabricated false document. Several emails went back and forth over the next few months and i no longer had any evidence to validate my defence. I have just returned back from another trip and found they have taken without authorisation or approval £288.87 from my credit card. I have raised a dispute with my credit card company and with Rentalcars.com. I take no pleasure out of this complaint and i have never complained before regarding any of my trips or rental agreements and i do travlel and rent frequently, but without mincing my words this is what i am clearly saying, Sixt @ Lisbon airport are dishonest and scam artists they or people who work for them are conning and ripping me off, they are deliberately chasing false claims weeks and even months down the line, anyone who has supporting documents to validate their defence will not be pursued but the unfortunate ones who cannot prove their defence will be taken to the cleaners by these con men and unfortunately for me i am one of the latter ones. A quick check of a Google Search SIXT @ LISBON AIRPORT REVIEWS would leave any sceptic with no doubts. PLEASE READ CAREFULLY! I rented with this company over a year ago (LISBON AIRPORT). It was the worst experience I've ever had from the minute I stood in line to get my RESERVED CAR (FOR OVER AN HOUR) I rented through Ryan Air at a low cost and paid up front. The woman that helped us was rude. HARD SELL! WE REFUSED THEIR INSURANCE. She told us she was going to upgrade us. I told her I just wanted the car that I chose on line. She insisted I take this particular vehicle... I said fine and we were on our way. Within 15 minutes of driving... the car started puttering and losing power. We had to pull over to the side of the highway. The car was totally dead. We couldn't get a hold of anyone from the company. They kept transferring us and putting us on hold. We( my diabetic husband and I and 3 kids) sat on the side of the highway for over 3 hours in the cold with no food or bathroom. We were on our way to Pena Palace (which we already bought tickets for). Our first day in Portugal was gone. They finally got someone to pick us up and take us back to the airport for a new car. Everything was o.k. with the new car.
When we got back home a month later we got a charge on our credit card for $475.00 (they were only supposed to charge us for tolls) This was last July 2018. NOVEMBER 2019 (16 MONTHS LATER)!!!!.... I get another charge on my creditcard for $1800.00! With no explanation! There was not one scratch on that car! I am having my credit card investigate this as I am writing this! THIS IS A FRAUDULENT COMPANY! EXTREMELY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE! THEY MAKE UP CHARGES IF YOU DON'T AGREE TO TAKE THEIR INSURANCE. YOUR 300.00 RENTAL WILL TURN INTO A 3000.00 RENTAL. NOT ONLY DID IT COST A LOT OF MONEY....BUT IT CAUSED STRESS AND PUT A DAMPER ON OUR VACATION. PLEASE RENT WITH A REPUTABLE COMPANY OR YOU WILL REGRET IT!

I've been hiring cars for years and been using this company over 10 years! 6 weeks ago i hire a car in Portugal Porto and i do my usual thing inspect the car and take loads of pictures! So i noticed there was a chip on the windscreen. so i took a picture and told one of the workers! But So when i returned the car the man said this is new damage but i show him my pictures and he agreed the damage was already there but he had to make a noted of it and 6 week later customer service would like me to debited: 557.87€ from my credit card! Even with my photographic evidence with time and date they still want me to paid? PLEASE AVOID THIS COMPANY !!

I think Sixt Faro is the most disgusting car hire company in Portugal I have sent emails, regarding a fictitious damage issue. I have spoken to Sixt customer service by phone with no resolvement.
I was not given a return document to sign, I stood with the person inspecting the vehicle, it was not heavily soiled as stated by Sixt company as vehicle was kept in the Garage. I did not damage the car, I can only think one of the Sixt employees damaged the vehicle when taking the car away for cleaning.
When collecting the car, the girl at the desk said that any scratches that were already on the car were okay as they were surface. I had trouble setting up Satnav and SIXT Colleague helped me, I did show him some scratches and he said they were okay as they were only surface so do not need to be recorded.
Sixt company is obviously very unorganized as I was sent wrong documents for damage in the first instance white BMW (Porto) when I hired a silver Renault (Faro) My Name is Danny W not Jurgon Stein, then and we were charged 15 euros for E Tolls which I agreed to for the whole rental and then charged separately.
I have not give permission for money to be taken from my credit card account, for damage I have not done. Sixt Faro will be getting bad reviews and I will advise everyone I know, of Sixt bad work practice.
Sixt Customer Service has not Forwarded their complaints procedure ( I have asked this three times), so I can take this matter further if required.
Sixt Car Condition department have closed this case and I have not given permission for this as it is still in dispute.
I have asked proof the work has been carried out, so no new SIXT customers get charged for this again and again. I had hoped I was dealing with a reputable company, but obviously Sixt have some very deceitful staff . Giving wrong information and fabricating information that customers have caused damage (that was probably done by a SIXT employee).
I will put this information out on as many review sites as I can.

Extremely bad experience with Sixt Funchal.
Rented a standard car in May. They offered me an Audi A3 S1 line automatic gear that I did not ordered. After a few hours of driving I noticed a gear problem.
I called them and they proposed me to replace the car for another A3 standard version what I preferred. So far not problem.
After 3 months, they charged me for 2050€, and used my credit card to deduct that amount claiming that I damaged the gear and that this was not covered by the insurance .
On top of that they claim that it was a manual car and I was driving an automatic one. I had a lot of mail contacts with them but they never reply, or after 1 month, always telling us the same that Madeira is hilly.
This is a company to avoid…. NEVER RENT A CAR FROM SIXT!!! They are not HONEST!

Total fraud. Avoid at all costs.
We rented through them in Sept 2018 (12 months ago). Yesterday, an erroneous and totally fraudulent charge of $2,000US shows up on my credit card.
Thankful to my bank for working to take care of it.
Beware that they will do everything to rip you off, so check your credit card statement carefully for at least a year after your rental.
