Car returned to SixtUK without incident or any damage in June 2018. No one looked at the car on return. Took two weeks to get my deposit back. Two weeks after that I received an email saying: "Unfortunately we have found damage." A scratch. Allegedly. Invoice for £90. No evidence provided - as there was no scratch. 16 months later I'm still being hounded, harassed and bullied. Today I've given them £90, to get rid. Never never never again! Note to self: Always read the reviews.

We hired two cars through Opodo and they were SIXT Cars. We rented from Split Airport. We took out an insurance through Opodo, so should-not have needed anything further. On arrival the very severe and unfriendly lady at the hire desk insisted we pay for an extra, very expensive insurance on one car, the other lady let us hire without additional insurance. Both ladies added extra for breakdown cover, which we also had. We left feeling very disgruntled with extra charges but wanting to get going on our holiday. We discovered half way through our holiday that one of the cars had an illegal and dangerous tyre on it, the wear was down to the metal. We had driven at speed on a motorway in the vehicle and that could have ended very badly. We reported this to the desk on return but have no faith that the tyre will be replaced for the next renter!! We did manage to get the breakdown cover charges refunded but not the extra insurance. This was a very unpleasant experience of SIXT car rental. We will not be using them again or recommending them. Hard sell tactics by intimidating staff.

Highly unreliable never depend on chester road Manchester branch. I booked car by calling the sixt helpline on 27 Oct 19 and was confirmed a car and instructed me to go to branch in two hours. Once I reached there, I was told that we don't have any car so come tomorrow 28 Oct 19 at 1 o'clock. As per scheduled I reached there at 1 o'clock I found that branch has been closed and all shutters were closed. Then I rang Enterprise Car rental and got the car smoothly with no hassle.

Rented a car for a week from Sixt Leicester. The car provided had several pre-existing scratches - some were recorded on the rental agreement, some were added at my request during the inspection on collection. The car also had faulty rear park distance control (PDC.)
Inevitably I tapped the bumper against a wall when reversing causing some minor cosmetic damage. I reported this to Sixt staff upon returning the vehicle.
Lo and behold, five weeks later I have received a demand for £738!!!
This is nothing short of extortion and egregious profiteering. I'm sure the PDC failure was entirely innocent and in no way a deliberate attempt to increase the likelihood of lucrative damage claims!
Avoid like the plague. This company should not be trusted.

Booked a convertible Beetle for collection from Miami Airport for a long weekend in Florida. Offered an upgrade to a Mustang on collection which we took. The gearbox failed by Miami Beach, spoke to the agent who suggested we bring it back and get replacement - in convenient but OK.
Enjoyed a great weekend on the Florida Keys in the replacement Mustang.
A week later the claims department contacts me for details of how I 'broke' the gearbox. I explained it was a mechanical which they apparently disagree with and are kindly asking for over $300 to cover the repair.
The answer to that is NO.

I had to wait around 45-60 minutes to be served at Lisbon central centre. The guys at the desk seemed nice and friendly. But they did not have the car I booked.
So they offered an upgrade for me, which was more expensive as it was apparently the next thing available. But they told me I could have an extra day free.
Almost a week after the car was returned, I find out that I was charged for that extra, amongst some other hidden fees. At this point, I was wondering why on earth was there less money in my account. Oh yeah, they took my deposit of €300 and withheld it for 6 working days after the car was returned, and basically withheld these hidden charges without notifying me.
The rental ended up costing me twice as much as I signed up for basically. Which is literally a scam. The other thing also is that the T and C fine print is soo tiny and mixed with other languages in each paragraph - it is quite negligible. But also totally negligent.
In conclusion, this is the only car rental company I have had bad experience with. I would now strongly advise anyone not to use Sixt. Not only did they lie to me, but their customer service is abysmal. I should have been given the car I booked, I should not have been charged extra, and I should not have to wait 6 days to receive my deposit back. Also, making me wait an hour while on my holiday, the absolute cheek of them. People this is 2019 for Christ's sake... if someone makes a booking, be ready, and on time... Customers deserve better than this!

Picked up car at Ljubljana airport, had chosen full to full on fuel as always found this better but was persuaded to pre purchase a tank full as was told this would save 22% tax. On checking invoice later we were charged the 22% tax on the tank of fuel so this was a blatant lie. Another lie we were told was that breakdown cover was compulsory, found later on checking with them it's not. Complained & was told you signed for it so tough. I can understand usong strong selling techniques but blatant dishonesty is another matter altogether!

Exactly as another person described below, my partner had booked and prepaid for a car thinking all we had to do was collect it at the airport.
How wrong we were! Because she didn’t have a credit card (there was no mention of this when booked with the debit card), I was made to pay for their FULL EVERYTHING COVERED (and of course EXTORTIONATELY PRICED ) insurance policy.
This more than doubled the price of the car we thought we’d already paid in full for! It honestly would have been cheaper to buy a buy a car (actually cheaper to buy TWO cars!!) than to rent one for 10 days through this dreadful, dreadful company.
These guys are crooks, how on Earth are they allowed to continue operating when they do nothing but scam poor unsuspecting folk that arrive in the country?? Disgraceful.
I have put in a complaint to my bank who are investigating their malpractice. I advise others do the same.

The rental was actually fine, but the customer service for handling a fine was awful. The delay of responses was so long that I had to pay a "late payment" fee.
Very bad experience.

I recently hired a car from sixt and picked it up at Barcelona airport it was pe paid and booked through car rentals.com i also booked the top fully comprehensive insurance through rental cars.com . When i picked the car up at Barcelona airport i was asked if i wanted an insurance upgrade i told them that i had already upgraded when i booked the car . They took my credit card details at the reception as a company policy . When i got home i received an invoice and on it was an upgrade on insurance which i had apparently singed when picking up the car . The cost of this insurance was €202.81 for a week this equates to €10,546.12 per year unbelievable but true . I tried to contest this with my credit card but as i had apparently singed for this i had to pay . A total con and scam avoid this company at all costs total rip off . Id never use again

I returned a hire car to Sixt St. Pancras and the staff refused to inspect it. Having checked over the car I wasn't concerned, and have never had any issues with hire companies. Two weeks later Sixt tell me they have have a damage claim with photos of quite substantial damage that clearly is from another car hitting the side. I disputed and heard nothing for 9 months, then they sent me a bill with an engineers report that had new photos on it with even more damage, taken in a different location. Their own photos showed that they were trying to charge me for damage that clearly happened months after I returned the car. I am still disputing the charges from Sixt and getting nowhere, and get conflicting and random responses from them only after escalating it. Do not hire from Sixt!

Whe thought renting a car at sixt
That is so fixed
In the first instance that was true. A friendly employee names Scott could give us a free upgrade because we were in the USA for the first time. We would get a bigger car for the same money. In addition, Scott told us that a younger driver was no problem Unfortunately upon return home in the Netherlands the free upgrade and the younger driver out to cost 360 euros....this amount was withdrawn from the credit card without telling us anything at the moment we have a part of the money back So yes we had a wonderful holiday in a wonderfully large car, but we just hope that you will not be helped the next time through Scott because in that case a free upgrade means docking.... and your money fly away Greetings from MISTER Boekee and the whole Avanta gang from Holland.

Read the small print very carefully. All other companies I have ever come across include basic cover as standard (with a fairly hefty excess). I booked to rent a car in Nice and when I went to pick it up, they pointed out that they only included thirdparty cover. So I would be responsible for the entire cost of the car! - not just the usual excess. Got stung for EUR 125. I felt like I had been scammed.

Great experience with SixT at Munich airport. Mr. Voelker was very polite, professional, and helpful despite the very late hour of our arrival. I plan to continue renting with SixT as long as they continue hiring quality people like him.

AVOID this company. DO NOT USE!!!
I booked a estate car as travelling on a family holiday and to get married so we had 5 suit cases and a push chair. I used Holiday auto website and choose Sixt as known company. This was i mistake.
We arrived at the counter behind 4 people waiting. There was 1 couple arguing about their car hire. We waited 45 minutes and were then told that there was no car for us as we were 1 hour late and they did not have to honor our booking as per their standard terms and conditions. If they had more people serving or had dealt with the people in from then we would not have been late!!!
It was 10.30pm traveling with our 2 year old daughter and to be told this was a joke. They offered us a car but at an upgrade of 400 euros. they also said that our voucher (£500 already paid) was invalid and this was them doing helping us. They refused to provide me with a letter stating that our voucher was invalid so i could not claim the money back from my credit card. I tried to call holiday autos but after 4 times of getting cut off i gave up.i had to pay under duress for the upgrade as by this point it was very late for my daughter and had no other option.
They dumped the car and didn't even explain the controls. it was a auto which i am not familiar with. complete joke
Do not use this company!!!!!!!
Avoid at all cost!!!!!!

Sixt (Montpellier station, France) were not the cheapest, but are a known brand so I thought Ok. I also paid the extra €10 a day to reduce the liability. Returned with a scratch - literally a scratch, that I didn't notice happen but Ok.
They charged me €461 (!!!). Apparently they did not actually repair it (Why would they?) Nor is this the value lost from the car: this is just an 'expert' estimation of what it would (or *could*) cost to completely replace a panel and repaint it. Totally dishonest scam.
In addition the gas station near the station was closed, so I couldn't tank. Ok I had only done 170 km, so that was max 10 litres (Peugot 208). They charged me for 20 litres: again not 13.2 or 17.5 but exactly 20 litres: they hadn't actually filled 20 litres they just thought of the maximum (im)plausible number. They charged those 20 litres at €1 over the actual price *plus* added a service fee of €20.
Sixt: never again. This is bordering on fraud. It is maybe on the wrong side of that border.

Our flight was delayed and they gave away booking. Sixt told us, it was our fault for not contacting them. We tired but no-one answered our calls. We since found out they don’t have any staff in in contact centres during weekends. Their local branch manager was an arseh**l, who blamed us. He said that they could not help because we had booked it on internet. We would have to cancel our booking and rebook with the local office, including a cancellation fee and new booking extra costs. Do not use Sixt and especially the Milton Keynes branch...

We hired a car it’s sixt in Belfast and the lovely young man Adam was do helpful, upgraded us (sixt hire car there top marks) but on return to London went to hire a car that had pre paid the same card we used in Belfast and was told they couldn’t use our card even though it had the deposit on it ( it was a visa pre paid card from our bank ) so we were denied our car ... even though they repaid us our money we paid for the car we were stranded at Heathrow ...we ended up having to catch trains - 3 in total to our destination... the next day ended up booking a car with enterprise so much easier and cheaper...

Last June I hired a van from Sixt at the Cambridge branch to move home and it was an absolute nightmare! First, they convinced me to get an extra damage insurance. They failed to make clear the existing damage to the vehicle and told me it was unnecessary to take pictures. The interior of the van was wet and soiled. After returning the van, they charged me for 2 days rent instead of 1. I managed to sort this out over the phone but then 1 week later, I received a damage claim of £150 for damage I obviously did not inflict!

My experience with Sixt was not perfect but good in the end.
Branch: Olbia Airport Sardinia.
I booked with them because they allow rental (in Italy) with a Maestro card, I don't have a real credit card and their prices were good for the cars they offered.
I chose the cheapest model, Mini Cooper, and got it as promised. It was almost new
it had great options and I loved it, my ecological driving behavior got me to an economical consumption of 3.8l. I paid 230 euros on the spot for 10 days (great deal), 0 euros prepaid and a 300 euros for the security deposit that I got back quickly. The man who showed me the car was really nice (understood the 30min we took to inspect the car), so was the one who received it at the end and congratulated us about how clean it was, inside and out.
The bad part of my experience was my worrying. I started reading the avalanche of terrible reviews just before I left. I always take good care of the cars I rent, but there I went over the top and joked with my GF that I was turning into "Inspector Sixt". And inspector Sixt was paranoid and a pain the a... about every parking spot's safety and a real sand nazi. I was glad to leave that guy in Sardinia as we boarded our plane to fly home.
The only bad thing I can really say about Sixt is that the counter lady (who was also nice) had to apply the sales technique of scaring me into buying the full coverage which costs more that the rental itself (260€ for a 230€ rental). The borderline legal aspect of it is that she said that my 1000€ limit of coverage was for each damage. She said 5 scratches on the car could cost me up to 5000€. That seems illegal to me and absurd, destroying the car would cost me 1000€, 2 scratches 2000€.
In the end my experience with Sixt was good and I felt like sharing it here because it seems like only people with terrible experience are posting and I want to reassure those who have already booked and prepaid that if to take real good care of the car everything will be ok. But I can't speak about what would have happened if I had had a scratch, and those can happen even if you're careful. Would they have taken advantage of it and made me pay a 1000€ or would they have charged me 130€ like it has happened to me in the past with another similar company for a scratch done by a third party while parked? And to put things into perspective about accidents, my GF used 50mb of googling images without a data package for Sardinia and it has cost her 150€...
CONCLUSION: good experience a bit tarnished by worrying due to comments only of negative experiences (I now know that it is possible to have a good one) and the scaring into buying full coverage.
