A good and honest rental company. Close to terminal, nice and essential campervans, quite cheap, free airport navette service, 24h availability, fast check in and drop off, and so on. Don't ask them frills and don't expect golden and luxurious vans. That was really ok for my small family. I suggest adding premium insurance to save time, avoid credit card lock and be free of driving more relaxed! Recommended!

We are a couple travelling with a toddler (3.y.o) from India.
I went through a lot of reviews and recommendations and crunched my numbers really hard to finalise rent.is and boy am I glad.
They worked out to be the most economical and best value proposition a detailed comparison sheet is included here and pretty much covers all points one would look for:
(links are not allowed on trustpilot so I'll put it up on their google review)
Communication : Since the time of booking was constant and clear. I was updated regularly and they linked me up with information very useful to plan ahead especially for a wild ride like Iceland.
They probably have the most comprehensive information about campervan rentals and camping in Iceland with ready made itineraries on their website which was very useful to plan our trip.
Booking Deposit/Rescheduling: They did not take any advance booking fee from me which was great.
My flight got cancelled at the last minute and they promptly rescheduled my booking to a day later over email which was a breath of fresh air while I was fighting frustration with my airline.
Condition of the Van: Van was clean and delivered in good shape with 3 of everything from plates to cutlery to crockery. A stove and a gas canister was thrown in as standard. The camper was well maintained and gave zero mechanical troubles through out our time there and saw us through some crazy winds and chilly nights with a super fast heating arrangement. They are probably the only one who offer a full size dining table inside (that pops out from under the bed) which was great for indoor dining when you can't use the included picnic set of chars and tables to laze outside if weather got bad. The layout was smart and ergonomic and managed to squeeze a lot into a renault traffic van. The van is painted in a nice white with cool graphics which pops out in the icelandic scenery in all the pictures. Check my instagram @kishorevigneshkumar for the crazy pictures of the places this van took us.
Pickup and Return: They picked me up from the airport and on the final day, I got delayed beyond midnight way past my agreed drop off time but, they agreed for a late night drop off at no extra cost and were available 24/7 for pick up and drop which is a welcome feature in unpredictable iceland. They offered me a hot cup of coffee and dropped me back to the hotel at the middle of the night. There was no fuss about the condition of the van, and I had cleaned it by myself but they said I needn't have to since they do it anyway. Other companies charge a cleaning fee or expect you to clean the van, which most of us would do obviously but sometimes after a long tired roadtrip you don't want to attack the van with brushes and a broom.
Things I learnt after my trip that you should know:
rent.is is a point blank rental. It may not be the 'coolest' or the most frills/added services offering company out there. I found it to be a no nonsense rental company that does to the point rentals, and I loved that.
They're office is a collaborative shared space with a bunch of others like go campers and nordic campers operating from different desks in the same room so the pickup and drop and everything else is handled together, so please don't expect exclusivity. The pickup was done by someone with a bunch of logos on a board and rent.is was one of them and I had no problems with it, because it worked fine for me.
The van was ready and I was given a super quick rush through the details of the van and where is what. I was off within 05 minutes of reaching their office. Both during pickup and drop off. Other companies I gather, spend some time with you, discuss routes probably, and acclimatise you with the van and some even have free stuff you can pick up from a counter. If you are looking for that kind of time investment, then this might be a little too straight for you.
Each camper from each rental company is differently laid out internally. Most of them use a renault traffic or VW transporter (for 3-4 passengers capacity option) Some have running water, some have a wash basin, some have roll up beds and the like. The rent camper had a double bed in partitions and a small counter top with shelves to keep our stuff and mount the gas stove and cook on. The bed cushions could be removed completely and would reveal two cavernous storage cabinets and a pop up dining table which was neat. I assumed there was running water basin in this after seeing some videos, but There was no wash basin in this 3 passenger van , a tank with water is available which you can fill up at gas stations and use for drinking/cooking. The wash basin I was told comes with 5 passenger van. There is central heating and a led strip that runs around for lighting nights. A fridge that can be switched on or off sits under the counter. Pretty neat and spacious ergonomics.
The sleeping bags and bed covers were clean and were stored in the bed trunks. There was a picnic table with three chairs folded and stored under the bed. I could choose a child seat from the inventory and it worked fine for my trip.
I opted for the Insurance that was fully comprehensive and was the cheapest of the lot. See the google sheet for the comparison.
Bottom Line: There are lot of options out there to rent campers but I found that they had some kind of caveat when it came to extras which finally blew up the total bill. Rent.is was an open book and had some of the best prices overall as most things come included standard. I plan to go back to Iceland again definitely, and I would be renting from rent.is again.

I was extremely pleased with my Renault traffic 3 campervan from rent.is. From before we arrived, when I emailed back and forth several times with questions about the campervan, then once booking an excursion I asked to change the pickup time for the campervan, Eleanor was great to help with all those items. Once in Iceland, we made it all the way around ring road with no issues. The bed, sleeping bags and pillows were comfortable. We enjoyed the extra table so we could eat outside often. We traveled with friends who rented from another company and their battery died twice in 8 days overnight when they ran their heat. Since we had separate batteries, we didn’t have any battery issues. We had an early morning flight out and rent.is got our campervan checked in and us to the airport quickly. It was so nice to have them open 24hrs and so close to the airport. I will not hesitate to use this company again.

The people at Rent.is were friendly and efficient in getting our Iceland trip started on the right foot. Not only did they process our rental without problem, the staff offered advice on routes and points of interest. This high level of service was apparent at every level. Lucas, the airport shuttle driver, went the extra step of loading and unloading all our heavy luggage. While waiting for the paperwork to finish, the staff found toys to entertain our two year old. All in all, great company - I strongly recommend them to anyone heading to Iceland.

Rent.is was a wonderful company who explained about the vehicles, sending us link to camping sites, places to visit, Great! only problem we had was during our arrival. The driver was not the happiest person up our arrival. He was a bit in a bad mood, he did not even try to carry our luggages. But dropping off the vehicle was great, I had the impression that the hour of operation was limited in the morning. Upon my arrival at 6am, I was greeting with them where I could drop off my vehicle and then they managed to take me back to airport. Thank you Rent.is!!!

We had unexpected an update offered from a Renault Kangoo to a bigger VM Caddy. The car was perfectly for our trip (2 persons) and all the accessoires (tables, seats, cooking equipment, etc) were of a very good quality (I think that even a lot of items were brand-new !). I only can give positive remarks about the service and cars of Rent.is.

I've had a good experience with the company. The car rented was very new , and I have received a better car than the car I have rented (more internal space for sleeping). The price for rental was very competitive against other companies.

The car was good, and return procedure is quite fast. But when i got my car, me and my wife were little bit upset. The guy who operated with me (black beard) was not kind, rude, he just wanted finish asap even i asked him that this is my first time of camping car. He didnt wait us when i check the car, so i had to go inside and asked him about my question. The other guys looked nice so we envied other customers.
For him, we are one of the customers, so he wanted to finish his job quickly, but this is not so cheap thing, and not easy thing for beginner. I hope he will change his attitude or his job.

The experience with Rent.is was really good from the pick up to the drop off. There is a shuttle from and to the airport like every 20 minutes. They explained how to use the camper and showed us what is included. It comes with N1 petrol discount card. Highly recommend!

Booking was very easy. All representatives were very responsive and helpful. However upon arrival at the airport in Iceland it was very different. We found the representative and she told us wait for the shuttle outside. After 15 minutes of waiting no shuttle. We tried to locate her but she was no where to be found. After about another 30 minutes we found a different representative. She told us to wait for another shuttle which would be arriving shortly. After about an hour we made it to pick up our camper. At the office the rep rushed through the paperwork and gave us a 5 minute explanation on the camper and pushed us down the road. I found this whole experience to be very disorganized and unprofessional. Once on the road everything was good. Our plan was to visit the highlands that being the reason we selected the 4x4 California. Our attempt to go to Landmannalauger was shut down by a ranger warning us that vehicle although a 4x4 was not adequate to make the river crossings. I feel this should have been made clear at booking or on your web page. Being this was only a small part of our ring road trip we just moved on. Heading back on the F road we got a flat. We hadn’t really inspected the tires but at point we realized the tread on the tires was very thin. Made it into the next town and had to purchase a new tire as the old one was unfixable. I called the office and was told tires are not covered. Ok so on we go. The camper was roomy enough and worked for 4 adults with luggage. Very pleased with that. Also through trail and error we figured out everything about the camper we needed to know. Everything went good until the next flat tire after driving on a gravel road into Borgarfjordur Eystri. We got that tire patched but noticed a gash in the side wall which the mechanic showed us had been patched previously. That tire should have been replaced prior to that camper being rented. Unsafe and ready to blow. Other than the tire problems and the additional 220.00 usd for a new tire (I did have max insurance which I learned did not cover tires)every thing else was great. Planning on returning to Iceland in the future and being a little wiser on the process I could see potentially using Rental.is again. Definitely need to work on the airport pick up process and vehicle readiness.

Had a wonderful trip around the ring road in the VW Caddy. The pickup and drop off process was quick and easy. The young lady who shuttled us to and from the airport was very helpful and friendly. I would definitely rent from rent.is again.

Everything about renting our camper van was easy. The vehicle was in perfect condition and had all the accessories we needed for a great trip. They are open 24/7 so we were able to get our van even after landing at midnight. Customer service is exactly what you need when visiting a foreign country. Thank you the fantastic experience.

Great customer service, and shuttle bus from the airport to the rental office.
We rented the VW Caddy. The car was spacious enough for two people and well equipped. We had everything we needed for two people.
In my opinion the bed arrangement was better than at other car rentals. Being 190 cm, this was one of the few arrangements that had a bed big enough to sleeo comfortable. Keeping in mind this was a campervan, the bed was quite comfy.
The car was easy to drive, and had a nice heating system at night - which came to good use even in august. We drove around Iceland for five days.
All in all: 5/5

Really good company! We had brand new, full equipped car. Pick up and drop of was very quick and easy. The price included premium insurance was reasonable for one week trip. I recommend them and for sure use services of this company again.

We enjoyed our 2 weeks trip through Iceland with our Rent.is 4x4 Nissan Navarra. This is a great car for 2 person to explore the nature. Inside of the car there is enough space. Rent.is provided us with a complete set of camping material, sleeping bags, pillows, refrigerator, gas stove etc. The service was professional and helpful. Thank you!

Rented Renault campervan from September 20-30. Pick up and return to airport was quick and no problems. Camper was small but economical and we easily camped for 10 nights in it with no issues. Would advise to get premium insurance package for peace of mind. All staff friendly and courteous. My only suggestion would be to label desks for pickups and returns as we were waiting on couch for our turn when someone else walked in and was immediately called up to desk even though we were there first. No big deal, but we would have waited in line if there was sign as to where to line up. Overall great experience and best prices. Would use again or recommend.

We rented a Mitsubishi 4x4 almost brand new (28000km old)
the car was 6 gears manual and had a built house in the back that could sleep 4 people.
there was also a small kitchen with a gas cylinder which was enough for all the week that we spent around Iceland.
We were picked up at Keflavik airport and dropped 5 minutes away at the car rental office.
After a quick check in, we have been shown the car features and we were ready to go.
The check out was also easy, thanks to the fact that we bought the full insurance.
