Just rented a car from ProCar Reykjavik International Airport. Not the first and won't be the last time. Very efficient pick up and transfer to their office, which is 3 minutes away. Great service by very helpful staff. Car was excellent; super clean and ready to go. And all the paperwork done in no time at all. Plus the price was the best on offer. So my advice is if you are going to Iceland and flying into Keflavik Airport, then don't hesitate to use Pro Car. I've used them several times before and I tell you THEY ARE THE BEST!

Procar is pressing customers to buy expensive additional Insurance by claiming you Credit card is not the right type. I have a VISA and DK combined so it says Debit the same goes for my Master Card. They claimed that I needed to purchase a additional insurance due to this. I have rented cars at least 10 times in 7 different countrys with out any other company claining this. This is a scam and when you are standing in the middle of nowhere and you Family is waiting you have no choose then to pay.

We rented our car using the Islandair web link. Islandair offered car rentals and the prices were better than the major rental brands. What I didn't know is that Islandair uses rentalcar.com and rentalcover.com, overseas companies, with no direct relationship to Icelandair. Procar, a local firm, on the other hand is there to sell additional insurance and anything else to increase their revenue. So the arrangement is that we are advised to take the car without insurance and rentalcover insures. Any damages we pay for then claim. Further we had to leave an almost US$3,000 deposit.

So our experience was first that Procar is off-airport, and the driver comes around with a sign about every 30 minutes. When we final caught up with the driver his van was full, so we had to wait another 20 minutes for his return. Then on arrival the agent tries to sell additional insurance for sandstorms, for gravel damage, charges, questions our coverage if we are insured for national risks which was an unpleasant discussion, then Procar requires signing of additional forms to confirm we know we are renting without insurance. It was like renting from the Russian Mafia (later I learned they are all from Latvia, so close).

We received a car in terrible condition, with a broken light, various dents and scraps; the worst car I've received in my life. Its all properly documented, but the car was smaller than expected. Fortunately it was in fine running condition.

Upon return of the car 7 days later, we had no issues and a friendly return to the airport. So while we received a reasonable rental deal, the initial rental experience and stress was not worth it. I would just go with a more expensive and trusted brand next time.

As long as you budget for the additional insurance (gravel/volcanic ash etc) then you will be fine, all the companies offer it and its worth taking it just makes the whole process easier.

They were very flexible with me and my wife allowing us to pick up and return the car at different times to what we had booked, they also gave us a better car than we had paid for, all in all a good experience with Pro Car

Disappointing experience with Procar this weekend. I was required to purchase their insurance (effectively doubling the cost of the vehicle) despite providing a Visa Debit Card with sufficient cash that covered the full amount of the 220k ISK deductible. While I appreciate the staff were simply following internal policies, I can't help but feel that this is an unfair company practice.

Positive parts of the experience - staff were friendly. The shuttle driver was easy to locate in the arrivals area and immediately took me to the rental desk. The car was in good condition.
