Very disappointed with M&S I took out travel insurance with them. Unfortunately had to make a claim and the dragged their heels all the way initially trying to wriggle out of pay anything to eventually 11 months later settling. It turns out that it’s actually Aviva using the M&S branding. Either way it’s left me feeling less warm to the brand after spending so much time and stress dealing with this claim. Won’t use again.

Applied for loan at 2.9%. When the paperwork came through it had jumped to 5.9 even though I have a M&s credit card and a very good credit rating. When I called to ask why the changes. They said "thats what it is, take it or leave it."

Today, you can open a bank account with the likes of Starling bank with a few minutes and you’re up and running but it’s been 4 weeks since I was approved for m&s current account and to date I still haven’t received details for internet banking. As someone said, it’s like being back in the stone ages of banking. This is actually very bad. I thought some of the reviews were a bit over the top but honestly they are not.

If i could give them 0 stars then I would. I have been a customer of M and S credit card for approximately 15 years. I have never been able to use their online service as it always crashes and locks me out, I then end up phoning them, they let me in after answering security questions and then it crashes again so I have used their telephone service all these years. 5 months ago I was contacted by their security team to say my credit card had been used fraudulently, I was assured the amount would be credited back to my account and it was. A month later they then reversed the amount and charged it to me again, for a transaction I never made and are now sending letters about overdue amounts! I have contacted them by phone, post, Twitter and email and this has still not been resolved. After being a loyal customer who has always paid on time I find how I have been treated absolutely unacceptable. I would never recommend M and S bank to anyone.

Have just told M&S to cancel our car loan application. They’ve had it for 3 weeks! Ridiculous. Such a poor service. Have since gone online and got one approved with Tesco in about 30 minutes.

Poor customer service and poor attitude of staff both in branches and over the phone. Made a complaint over the phone and they wanted to close it immediately without it being resolved. I refused to close the complaint until it has been dealt with. Would not recommend to anyone.

My husband has just received a credit card from m and s from an account we cancelled months ago. I've contacted them by telephone to say the account is cancelled and we don't want a credit card. What a performance!. My husband is deaf and the staff member had a strong accent. Obviously she wouldn't talk to me, but I'm puzzled why my husband could not give verbal consent to talk to me. She wanted to know passwords etc from the account that we haven't used for two years, which we couldn't remember. Not a bank we will be using in the future. I think we have managed to cancel it but am still unsure. Come on m and s.

After problem after problem with Barclays chose to move to this bank. Spent around 20 minutes last Friday filling in their online form for a current account. Once completed pressed submit and a reply on screen of "We'll reply within 5 days". What???
So I checked my emails and nothing at all from them. No acknowledgement, no confirmation - NOTHING. So this morning I call them and after some delays I am told the applications team have just completed Thursday's and are now moving on to Friday's. This really is snail mail stuff. I cancelled immediately as I had applied online with Santander who gave me an account number, sort code and switch date within one minute.
M&S Bank. If you do read these reviews, for God's sake wake up. This is 2019, not 1960. HSBC and First Direct, the group you are part of open accounts immediately. Why don't you? You are living in the stone age and agree with all those reviews below who think the same. Wakey wakey people.

Applied for a balance Transfer Plus card 0% for 28 months 2.85% transfer fee & 0% on purchases for 6 months online. Simple application & i was told after a short time i had been accepted. i was contacted via email to say credit agreement would be sent out soon. Sure enough it arrived a week later. I Checked the paperwork & the 2.85% transfer fee was correct.I Sent credit agreement back via first class recorded delivery to avoid it going missing. 2 days after i had a text message from M&S stating they had got it & my card & pin would be sent to me in the next 5 days. pin arrived ok & next day card arrived ok.it took about 2 weeks from start to finish. I set up online credit card APP on my phone,Only Grumble with the APP is that it is very basic. The allocated credit limit on my card was very generous.I have used the card so far about 4 times & each transaction went smoothly. I did my balance transfer through the M&S Money website on a Friday evening so they told me it would be done the next working day. SO FAR SO GOOD. The only reason i have scored M&S Credit card as a 4 instead of 5 star is because of the VERY BASIC APP. That aside my experience with them so far has been ok. I have had no dealings with their call centres & dont imagine i need to as long as i pay my bill on time.

M&S is a supermarket. You cannot manage a bank the same way you manage apples and oranges. Stick to what you know how to do. Genuinely one of the most horrible experiences i have had with a bank-
1) they’re taking unauthorised payments (which they accept are ‘errors’ but cant really do much about it)
2) client servicing is slow and painful and they can’t divert from a base case scenario question (assuming they’re ctrl+f in their FAQs list, cause they’re incapable of understanding the questions you ask them, let alone answering them)
3) they gave me a credit card and 2 months later (despite all payments in time etc) they decided to close my account, saying it was a business decision, but not providing a reason for this. When asked they didnt know why it was closed, so ofcourse ill report them to the Fin Ombudsmantt. Hope there’s a few cases against them so they get a big fine for treating their customers.
Ridiculous experience. Hope they close down forever. They’re food is good tho! Stick to that.

I didn’t want to give Marks and Spencer one star, I have never dealt with a more unprofessional bank.
I’ve been trying to change my name for over a year but to no avail, I have sent in my marriage certificate twice, sent a certified copy signed by a magistrate but they have still not changed my name. After a 2 hour call today whereby they confirmed they had received my documents they advised they will look into this matter AGAIN. I need to call back in 10 days. Great customer service.
I would not recommend this bank
Once this has been resolved I cannot wait to move to Nationwide.

Still awaiting my approved Credit Card a week after signing the agreement. I sent up an account with Starling Bank within minute and received the card within 2 days, this service is just pathetic!!
Actually wanted this as an urgent purchase, which is now dragging!!
I hope this is my only issue, as reading some of the other reviews, I'm now thinking this may have been a very bad decision!!

Absolute waste of time!!!
Just like the rest, was quoted 2.9% and recieved the email saying congratulations your application has been aproved. Then I got the paperwork and its 5.9%.
Their excuse is that all the terms and conditions are on their website. They give you a figure that you are happy with but then they can change their mind.

Never ever get a credit card with M&S they feed you **** & just charge you with late fees in regards to minimum payments you never got made aware off. Never ever had experience like this before with a credit card & will most definitely wont be returning ever!! Never had this trouble with Halifax. Go else where don’t waste your time and your money & then laugh at you down the phone cause of your frustration.

They advertise a rate of 2.9%, checked their eligibility checker which also confirmed a rate of 2.9%, received papers which confirmed a rate of 5.9%.
Rang them to question to which they respond that only 41% of clients receive the headline rate although they were unable to cite individual considerations and were unable to tell me why I did not qualify for this rate despite an unblemished credit record.
If you are considering applying save your credit search for a more reputable lender, I got 2.9% elsewhere! Unclear, unfair and misleading, goes against every principle of treating customers fairly!

Have held a M&S Budgetcard for 20+ years. I have recently found out that the reason my credit score is low is because of my £750 limit on this card.( I have never spent more than £300) Just spent 20 mins on hold to be told to increase to £1000 limit which greatly improves credit score they have to go through credit checks(15/20 mins!) which will further affect my credit score!!!!🤪 I am bitterly disappointed at this for my loyalty to M&S

I applied for a home improvements loan (new kitchen) through Experian to M&S which suggested an 80% chance of acceptance using exactly the same information that Experian have.
I have a high credit rating through all credit agencies and hold one credit card with a nil balance, an Amex charge card repayable every month, a Paypal account which I only use for interest free purchases all repayable over 4 months, a nominal bank overdraft facility which I never use and I have no other loans or mortgage( home owner) or rent to pay
On completion of the application form I received an immediate email stating 'Thank you for your application. We've referred your application to our underwriters who will contact you with a decision, by email, within 5 working days'.
Obviously I understand that any application can be refused for reasons only known to them or offered at a different rate.
However I have not had any response from M&S positive or negative, obviously Marksandspencermoney have no credible customer service. Must be because I am over 65 (ageism perhaps) despite me having an umblemished credit record

Is it possible to have a minus star , what a complete waste of space M&S bank are , went to India on holiday booked our hotels and had to leave a cc number to reserve our hotels, when we came to leave the hotels , m&s blocked our credit card so not able to pay with it, it blocked every payment we tried to make, good job we had other funds to pay for these hotels , disgusting service and had to phone them from India, which didn’t make any difference as still not able to use it, , just a complete waste of space , hope nobody gets their card , now having the same trouble with debit card, refused 2 payments this week, when we have money in the account, think it is time to cancel that as well and go with a bank that actually lets you use your own money

Applied for a loan on Sunday and got approval via email the next day with no info, sent all docs second class came 5 days later with an Apr of 8.9%!! Decided to try Yorkshire Bank who approved within minutes and money was in my bank 10 minutes later at the lowest rate avaliable of 3%.. Wouldn't try M&S again.

I decided to change banks about a month ago now, after applying online I waited well over a week for any sort of correspondence (including an email). I eventually received a letter saying that I had to verify who I was. I did everything they asked and sent back verified copies of ID as instructed only to find out that it has been rejected due to not using letter head paper (of which I have no access too). I only found this out because I phoned them to find out what the delay was. My husband has changed banks in this time and has had absolutely no issues and has had regular communication from them as to where he is in the process, meanwhile, 4 weeks down the line and I am still waiting. M&S bank are a disgrace and their communication is nonexistent. Avoid where possible, they are clearly incompetent.

Not impressed at all. My daughter applied for loan on line to purchase new car one week ago, received email stating being reviewed would take 3-5 days. Still not heard anything, chased by phone for update as this is greatly delaying things advised still being reviewed.
M & S what is wrong with you? One week later and still no one can advise anything, a simple yes or no is all it takes and NOT ONE WEEK LATER AND STILL NO NEWS!!! If this is not resolved very quickly, the loan will not be taken with you whatever the outcome, you are far to slow...zzzz

Never had a problem with any financial institute previously - M&S pre check showed 2.9% and I appreciate this is only representative, asked to upload 3 months of statements after chasing them only to be advised 'has anyone told you of the APR change to 5.9%?', at which point I cancelled my application and went elsewhere.
Really poor service - despite holding their credit card which is fantastic so far.
Save yourself 10 days and go elsewhere. M&S - come on, pull your fingers out, and offer instant decisions like every other lending institute out there, and at the very least an email or phonecall advising of timeframes if a referral is required.

I have had an account with marks and spencer bank for a year, not had any issues. Get a £5 gift voucher topup each month which is great. Banking online is easy, hsbc banks can be used to deposit funds. Easy telephone banking, would recommend for anyone who is not to tech savy.
