We rented a 4x4 Dacia Duster with snow tires and full insurance (with liability waiver) to be on the safe side. We were driving on the ring road on a snowy day, very slowly and carefully. The car started to skate and fell off the road. We called Blue Car's line and explained the situation. First thing they said was that nothing was covered by insurance. They told us that a tow truck would cost around 1000€ and recommended us to ask for help on the road and try to push the car back to the road. We did this under extreme weather conditions without success. We called Blue Car again but they didn't answer. We called 112 who transfered us to the Police and then to Blue Car. We said that we couldn't move the car and it was getting more and more stuck in the ice. They called the tow truck. Didn't mention any payment this time, which we assumed was due to the fact that the Police was involved. They said that the tow truck would take 1/1,5 hours. It took 2,5 hours! It was extremely difficult for the guy to take the car out and we almost freezed to death outside! When he finally did it, he told us that we would have to pay him around 700€! We called Blue Car again and asked them to indicate where that was excluded in our Rental agreeement. The Lady on the phone just kept repeating that it was excluded... But we wanted to know why! After insisting a lot, she told us that she would call us back in 1 minute. We waited 10 minutes and nothing... We called them again. It didn't seem that anyone was looking for our answer... And they told us to wait again. Finally they said that the exclusion was in paragraph j) related to driving off the road. BUT OF COURSE WE WERE NOT DRIVING OFF THE ROAD, WE WERE DRIVING ON THE MAIN ROAD AND FELL OFF ROAD DUE TO THE WHEATHER CONDITIONS! We explained this to them and the guy from the tow truck did too. After a long conversation in Icelandish, Blue Car finally told us that they would pay for the tow. We thought that the situation was handled, but when we delivered the car they immediately asked us to pay for the tow truck, because "customer refused to pay". THIS IS NOT WHAT HAPPENED! After a long discussion, Blue Car accepted to pay for the tow truck. But this does not end here: afterwards they went to check the car and told us that it had damage underneath, which was not covered by insurance. So they told us: "you have 2 options: either you pay 700€ for the tow or we send the car to repair which will cost you much more, at least around 2500€!". Of course we had a plane to catch in a few hours, and couldn't wait for a budget to repair the car. This is very convenient on their side... So basically we were THREATENED to pay for a tow which was covered by our insurance. It goes without saying that we were treated in a very unpolite manner and really felt HARRASSED by Blue Car's staff. We Will do everything within our power to make sure that there Will be consequences out of this situation.

I rented a car (4x4 Dacia Duster) from Blue Car Rental last June 2019, for a family summer vacation which lasted 9 days. I got a totally full insurance car. I had a very bad experience with the treatment I received from both, the company and the employees. So you should expect a bad treatment throughout your rental experience with them as well.

I would not recommend to anyone to ever rent a car from this company. STAY AWAY from Blue Cars and Cars Iceland !!! We rented a car for a week and returned it all fine. There was a tiny and almost invisible dent, that could even be there from before and we missed it while checking it out. Even in the case scenario that it got cause during our car renting period, they wanted to charge us the astronomical amount of 120,000 isk = 800 euros for something that is obviously not costing as much. Not only they caused us stress to pay for this while we were already stressed to catch our flight, but they also ripped us off, and I now have to follow up with my lawyer. This was a clear robbery, and a mental abuse.

Used them in November 2018 - only leaving a review now as I've had some really poor rental car experiences since with other companies and thought amidst all the negative reviews, it was only fair to leave some positive feedback for a rental company where it was due.
Long story short, booked a 4x4 for 2 days in Iceland.
Didn't get the one we chose (never have anywhere) but got one in the same category which was just as good.
The pick up process was straightforward from their office in Reykjavik - I was encouraged to check the car over for damages before driving away in it, which I did. I found some minor marks which I was assured were not of any importance.
They did try to sell me extra insurance which isn't noted on the website (The only reason Im giving 4 and not 5 stars, as I believe rental companies need to be more transparent with their pricing), however I was prepared for this and had my own rental insurance, which was much cheaper. The guy at the desk was fine with that and didn't push me to purchase their own insurance.
Didn't have any problems with the car the 2 days we used it.
Dropped it off at the airport on the last day, the return process probably took no more than 15-20 minutes while the guy checked the car over - there was no damage, he didn't try to make a scene about any of the little marks I'd noticed on the pick up which I was a bit worried about, and that was that. There is a regular shuttle bus from their office to the main terminal, or its about a 4 minute walk.
The staff seemed friendly enough at both offices.
No complaints, other than maybe a bit more transparency on pricing.

Car had a few small scratches, crack in windshield but I was told it is in perfect condition. Tank was not full, as is usual (and says so when reserving the car....) , and this fact was not pointed to me.
Better check the car thoroughly when picking it up and give immediate feedback, otherwise you may have to pay for other's faults...
Personnel was friendly and corrected the faults when pointed out.

Rented a Toyota Rav4, auto, for 3 days. Prebooked all the extra's as wanted a nice simple hire with no sales pitch.
Car was virtually brand new, still smelled new. Apparently they change them at 40,000km. Fitted with studded winter tyres as standard. The whole experience was excellent. Nice quick handover at each end. Honest check over of the car at start and finish. I'd recommend the WiFi option. It gives a great 4G connection on all your mobile devices and is secure. Looked through lots of reviews before booking and these guys looked the best. Excellent value, many of the normally optional insurances are included as standard and you get the vehicle you booked (not something similar!)

Ordered and payed for a Corolla Diesel back in februar 2018, when we should pick up the car in Keflvik at 26. july 2018, they just told us they dont have this diesel in there program. I ordered a Diesel for its more torque at the hills and etc. They offered us an Auris gasoline, but we have no other choice than take that car. Not so economic as the Diesel, and need so much torque to drive in.
They knew the situation about the diesel for 6 month, but nobody phoned or send us some emails, i will never use that kind of company again, they are not with there customer.
So recommandation to other customers, take a known company like Hertz, Avis, Sixt with a good feeling for a customer.
Blue Car Rental, shame on you !

THIEVES!!!!! please, rent from bigger and more serious companies (hertz, avis, ecc.. ). we bring back the car in perfect conditions except for a 3cm scratch on the back which was probably due to a rock (we had gravel road assurance). The operator said it was due to a collision with another car (not true). We accept anyway (because we trusted them) to lock 1000 (one THOUSEND) euros from our bank account, and the operator ensured us that they will evaluate the damage and give us back the difference. after 2 weeks they stop answering e-mails and charge us all 1000E without any further explanation. BLUE CAR RENTAL ESSENTALY STOLE (there is no other way to say it) US 1000E. BECAUSE OF THEIR DISHONESTY I DON'T RECOMEND THIS COMPANY. GO FOR A MORE POPULAR ONE EVEN IF THE PRICE IS LITTLE HIGHER. AT BLUE CAR RENTAL YOU WILL RUN THE RISK (QUITE HIGH) TO BE SCREWED!
if someone from the company would solve this, maybe I will change my mind, but by now: don't go for blue car rental!

We arrived at the agancy office to pick up as agreed at 8:30 pm. At 9 pm they told us the car was dirty and that we need for 30 more minutes to get it. When we complained that we have plans and that we have booked 8:30 on purpose, the guys just laughed us off and said to write a written complain.
So here it comes. Out trip in Iceland starts with “friendly and warm” welcome and “good” service provided by Blue Car rental

We rented a car with BlueCar Rental from the downtown Reykjavik location, which was a very short walk from our hotel. I booked the Kia Sportage online and had no issues. We found this car to be PERFECT for Icelandic Roads. I emailed them with a few questions and they responded that same day and were very friendly. When we went to pick up the car, the lady who helped us wasn't very friendly, but it was 8am so maybe she was just tired. The car we got was exactly what we signed up for online, so we were very happy. All of the appliances worked great and we had no issues with the car during our many drives. Based on other reviews online, we made sure to point out all scratches on the car and took pictures before we left. We also filled up the car with gas and cleaned the interior a little as it had gotten muddy from our hikes. When we went to return the car, everything went quick and smoothly. The man who helped us return our car was much friendlier than the first lady. I will say that we got lucky and had no accidents or incidents, so I can't attest to how they treat people if the get into any trouble on the roads. That being said, based on our experiences, I would definitely recommend BlueCar Rental to others.

You have to take the shuttle bus (that goes in a loop, just exit the main entrance and walk along the path with the roof, straight, then left - there are no signs really - the only downside), which takes you maybe 4 minutes.
Of course we had another car as "promised" but the Kadjar was a good deal, we were very satisfied with it. Quick service. We called once because a warning sign turned on, they told us they know about it, nothing to worry about - which we had guessed anyway.
Return was quick and easy too.
