I feel like this was a bait and switch. I was looking for a place in San Diego for a four day stay in Nov. I checked their policy on deposits and it said that if the host requires a deposit it will be reflected in the pricing of the rates or if Airbnb requires a deposit it would tell you the amount before you complete the reservation request. I found a place and reviewed the terms multiple times before I decided to book. There was never any mention of a deposit. Submitted the reservation and then received an email saying the reservation had been submitted to the host. Twenty minutes later I received another email stating that the host accepted the reservation. Still no mention of a deposit. Then 30 minutes later I get an email stating that there is a $450 deposit. Nothing before then. I understand the need for deposits but I was never told of one or the amount until after they had charged my credit card. I did not have the option of deciding if I wanted to pay that amount or not. The more I thought the more I did not want to use the service anymore because I felt they were being deceptive. I called on the 3rd day to inquire how much would they keep if I cancelled. I knew they would keep a portion but they told me that I would only have refunded $12.11. WTH???!!! I paid over $600 and you are only going to get me back $12.11 three days after I booked the reservation? Customer service just kept repeating that it was the host that required the deposit.
I recited back to the rep word for word of the deposit policy from the website that said if the host required a deposit it would be including in the quoted price and it wasn't. She just kept saying sorry. What is sorry going to do? This is the first and last time I will ever use Airbnb. I will stick with hotels from now on.

I had only had good experiences with airbnb until this spring. A host in Seattle mis-represented her property as a studio in a house, and it turned out to be a glorified room with paper thin walls, extremely loud people staying in other parts of the house, and mold that made my allergies even worse. I had to cancel after one night, and offered to pay an extra night plus any cancelation fees. She already had my money for the entire month. After no reply from her, I got airbnb involved. I reasonable asked for two thirds of my money back. At first, they responded and said they were looking into it, but after follow-up calls/emails, nothing more from them. I would never use airbnb again!

I have tried to book a few properties for next summer on Airbnb recently, and have had similar replies. Either the rates are wrong, or the property isn't available for some reason.
However, when I look at the same place again the cost to book it has risen considerably.
In the UK we have a law that says if you see something advertised, the price you see is the price you pay, or you can sue them. It appears this does not apply to Airbnb.
This is my first experience of using Airbnb, and I am beginning to think there are a lot of crooks and con artists on it.

I booked a unit off airbnb and paid in full. Host contacts me and tells me I need to cancel the booking due to the host getting caught renting a unit that was not supposed to be used as an airbnb. When I try to cancel, it states I will only get 50% back. I contact airbnb and they do honor the refund in full but insist on sending the money back to a closed account. I repeatedly asked for the refund to be sent via check, on to another credit card, in a credit form with airbnb so I could book a different unit for a fast approaching trip and they refused. They sent my refund back to the closed account and my $1000 is now bouncing back and forth between the two. Airbnb customer service has been horrible! Rude, having a "not my problem" attitude and doing nothing to help me. WORST COMPANY EVER!

I was given a gift card to use toward my expenses in visiting someone after I had already made the reservation. It turns out that Airbnb will only let you use a gift card at the time you make the reservation and it can't be used to pay any remaining balance. So, it is a gift card, but it isn't really a gift card. Not an honorable business practice.

I found a mouse running in the flat and could not take a picture, broken shower or too hot or too cold so several times I felt bad and dust on furniture, winter cover with bed bugs, landlord said the trash needs to stay in the fridge near the clean food, landlord even complained for not true reasons. Asked for refund, they said no, before not replying for three days. Then I sent another message and they said ask the host. Host refused. Then airbnb resolution. Since no pics of mouse and of dust and of the shower (how do I show in a picture that it is too hot or cold?) no refund. Terrible help center. Price also vary randomly and never know why. In Italy then it is expensive as hotel. Definitely don't book!!! (Europe is also giving an ultimatum to Airbnb also for refund and also because they don't respect any law)

Unhappy with AirBNB. Recently made a reservation using AirBNB Gift Cards and my credit card for the remaining balance of the charges. The reservation was processed incorrectly and the entire charge was posted to my credit card. Have been working with 4 different AirBNB customer service representatives for three weeks now trying to get this resolved. Now they say that it has been too long since I made the reservation for them to correct the problem. Are you kidding me. They say that at least I still have a credit (gift cards) on my account that I can use for a future stay. My future stay will certainly be the last time I ever do business with AirBNB. feeling angry.

I booked a week long stay and it was canceled by the host 2 months out from our trip. I have $3000 worth of disney tickets and no place to stay. I canceled 2 sets of hotel reservations when I booked the airbnb and I can't get those back now. Airbnb has ruined my trip, I will never book with them again. Do not book Janette's place in Orlando.

Have used AIRBNB for about three years now all over the world about 40 rentals. After my last rental and issues with AIRBNB. I will never use this company again. MY wife and I had a rental in Royal Arkansas to visit hot springs national park. The host of the property misinformed use about the address. Would not answer his phone waited out side for an hour and a half after check in time. Host finally called and told us where the key was. We went in side and the place was a mess. None of the beds were made with dirty sheets pilled on top. There where dirty work clothes hanging in living room with dried mud on them. There where ashes in the bath room sink and dried urine on the toilet. We canceled the stay at this point. A report was made with AIRBNB about all of the rules violations and the conditions of the property. We where told sorry we are a third party and can not get involved. I contacted the owner and was told every one else has liked his property and nothing that happened was his fault?. We lost all of our money for the stay. Please read other web sites and see how bad AIRBNB really is!

I booked a beautiful place in Fort Collins, Colorado for a relaxing weekend. The listing did not have any exterior pics but now I know why. When I arrived, the rental was in the middle of a junkyard. Old boats, RVs, ladders, trash cansyou name it. I complained to the host who refused to refund me. I then complained to Airbnb who also refused to refund me. I got a curt message from Airbnb that because I appeared mad, they weren't going to help me out. I ended up filing a dispute with my credit card company and the Attorney General. I'm still out that money but at least there's a record of Airbnb's lack of quality control and complete lack of customer service.

Booked an apartment via Air bnb with their so called Super host. As a first timer i had several queries. The email sent told me that they will send me my check in instructions 3 days before my check in dates. Failing to receive all these details i tried to message the host and also calling the host but it took the host days to reply me. They replied only after i contacted the Airbnb support. TO MY GREATEST SHOCK the host sent me an email telling me they discovered an issue with their electrical panel less than 24 hrs before my check in expecting me to find lodging in 24 hours for 9 guests . The host sited Safety reasons. ALL MY GUESTS N MYSELF ARE Chinese. Is this fair treatment ?

Apartment hosted by Julia at ul. Warszawska 5A, Modlin, Nowy Dwor Mazowiecki, Poland does not allow guests to:
1. Sleep with open bedroom doors
2. To stink with alcohol (as per exact words of the owners)
3. To make any sounds by voice (even with medical condition)
4. To walk around apartment (contrary to their welcoming message)
5. To wake up when you wish to wake up.
6. To check in "late" (after 9 PM)
7. To check out after 10 AM (respected but unusually early).
Otherwise you will be disturbed and approached by the owner with dog who will let her dog "kiss" you early in the morning in order to wake you up and ask you to leave andf she will cancel any other nights at her apartment you may have booked.

We booked a unit at Seascape Resort in Aptos from Taylor Properties.
This was in a great location and clean. Had everything we needed. They were very easy to contact if you needed any help with something.
We will definitely book with them again.

I would honestly leave 0 stars if possible. I’ve never left a review for any business but I’m so infuriated with this company that I need to share my frustrations. My friends and I had a house booked for this weekend. When my friends arrived, the house was not in a livable condition. They were renovating, there was work dust all over the place, the bathroom was disgusting and was flooded and not cleaned out, rat droppings in the kitchen drawers, garbage piled on the side of the house, I can go on. Our host, Bryan, was there and confronted my friend’s face to face. He doesn’t even own the property so they were told to speak to another’s party. They told us that Airbnb banned them for 30 days because of cleanliness issues at their other locations yet we were not informed of this until arrival. We called Airbnb to complain and find another place and this has now been going on for over 24 hours. We tried booking another place with a coupon and now my account is locked. I’ve spoken to countless agents and case managers and I keep getting the run around. Transferred to different departments and told there’s nothing that particular person can do. I was supposed to meet them today but now I refuse to drive out until it’s resolved. My friends are stranded 2+ hours away from home forced to shell out extra money on random dingy motels. If this ever gets resolved, which I doubt it will, I promise to never use this God forsaken website again.

Airbnb is a total rip off. Booked a place and decided to cancel the same day due to an unforeseen circumstance but was being refunded only 20% of what i paid for. Host refused to change date either. Absolute shamble. Airbnb is more on the hosts side, than they care about customers. Cancellation policy is a total rip off. When you book a place you are forced to go or else you loose your money. A host can cancel your booking anytime without being affected, but a customer will loose their money if they do. So I ask the management, how is that fair?

Beware!!! Host canceled my trip 72 hours before I was to arrive making my family scramble for accommodations. Confirmation was given in April and we were to arrive in July- so here it was July 3 and I got a cancellation. WHAT!!!!! We bought everything for the trip, rented a car, had scheduled our vacations and then just cancel??? They should not allow hosts to cancel so close to arrivals. Because everything was already, I had to contact another travel site and find a house which of course was triple in price for my family. Then Airbnb sends me a 48 dollar credit to use towards another house??? Fat chance that I’d ever trust this site again. This trip was supposed to cost me 1000 dollars and it ended up costing me 3000- absolute bull.

My review is also a question. Can a host cancel your reservation after you have made them and a payment on hold at my bank? This is what happened to me. The payment dropped off on my account and that is why I found out I did not have reservations. I contacted the owner and she claimed she did not hear back from me about information about who was coming. She said she needed to know specifics. I have never had another owner even asking that question. Once the reservation was completed online and the payment made it was ours. I suspect she did not want to rent the place at the last minute and sabotaged me. When I complained she said okay I will rent to you. What recourse is there for scenarios like that for the renter?

As a late birthday present my daughter booked myself and my whippet into an Airbnb apartment in Exeter. My only previous experience of bed and breakfast is of the "seaside landlady" type - Oh! what a difference!
My apartment was an absolute delight, beautifully clean, roomy, exceptionally well equipped and the very pleasant landlady couldn't have been more helpful. There was a sizeable selection of things to eat and drink too (not just breakfast), including doggy treats.
I had a great weekend and my Airbnb definitely enhanced my enjoyment.

Airbnb protects and creates cover up for dangerous properties/people and retaliates if they think those who reported them would go public. I believe this is how multiple people got killed or hurt in Airbnb listings -the company tries to silence any hazard information and have extensive proof of this. Below is detailed account of solo female traveler being subjected to danger by the deranged, angry and bigoted host (who was talking about homicide and other violence, other scary stuff and bullied the guest making bigoted statements) and made run for her life. Nice property rented from a nice lady turned out to be remote and dilapidated Robert's Redneck Retreat horror shacks, where guest had to be alone with crazy male owner. After leaving and immediately reporting unsafe situation and discrimination to Airbnb, Airbnb failed to take action against the host, continues to let host operate and even allowed the host to leave false negative review for the guest (while listed Airbnb host was not the actual host who was on the property, real host does not even have photos in Airbnb). After the guest demanded to take action (and remove negative review) and said that otherwise guest would have to be going public, Airbnb quickly retaliated: banned the guest (interrupted guests' reservation in-progress basically demanding to leave the property on minutes notice).
Airbnb poses public danger, they're a greedy, ruthless and hypocritical company with zero concern for safety and it's only a matter of time before next guest is harmed or killed in their properties. Full account of what happened and retaliation is here: airbnbdangeroushosts dot blogspot dot com

never booking with them again, do absolutely nothing to protect the customer. our booking for the end of the month has been cancelled, refund could take 10 days to come through before we can book another place for a busy event. really original hosts should be liable for covering costs of a new booking so close to the event or airbnb should have a policy that they will transfer funds to new property as soon as available. absolutely disgusting airbnb do not care about their customer. never again.
