Demanding payment in full during lockdown!!! Demanding payment in full or they’ll proceed with court action, during the Coronavirus Lockdown where self employed builders cannot work and hence cannot earn. No response or any offers of help from them. Disgraceful!!!

Very good equipment and very good service. Had to change the date at short notice and it was no problem and also had to take the equipment back late due to the snow. Staff couldn’t be more helpful. Plus the price was very competitive.

Happy customer. The equipment I hired (carpet cleaner) was great and the staff I dealt with were helpful and knowledgable. The only caution I would give is that it is a good idea to call the store before booking items simply based on what the website says is available. I would happily use this company again for tool / equipment hire.

Hired a steam stripper from the Oxford Branch, staff at the branch were very helpful and friendly. Equipment was ready for collection at the appointed time and worked perfectly. The whole hire and return process was seamless.

I'm a tradesman and use hss a fair bit. It's no nonsense and always better when you book online. Only once have they made a mistake and they held up they hands and apologised rather than trying to blag it. They give you good tools and equioment. It's clean and well maintained. Their stuff is readily available and the staff easy to deal with. Price wise they're good too considering you're getting good tools. I'd recommend the to any diyer or tradesman

Was not very happy at all. I had arranged to pick up in the a.m. Turned up at the store at 8am only to be told that the unit would not be arriving from one of their other depots until 10am at the earliest! I know that is technically a.m. but it is hardly the bright early start in the morning that I was looking for. Additionally, no attempt from the guys to rectify this and go and hunt the unit down.
I ended up doing it myself and it cost me a couple of hours on the job by the time I'd worked my way through the traffic etc.

Needed a large flatbed trolley that HSS had at my local depot. However website then proceeded to take me round in circles when trying to book and pay for hire on my android phone. As a last resort tried on my PC and no problems so can only think some issue the website has with booking via smartphone. Anyway turned up at depot next day and everything fine and nice staff.

Was charged a £300 deposit and told the hire would be taken of at the end.
Now they have taken off more than the quoted price despite returning a day early (clean, no issue/reason for charge).
Now they have charged me more and I’m having to argue it.
Surely they should charge you for hire and then a deposit, which can be used for late fees or damage. Not a large deposit to return only the amount they see fit!! Can’t be legal.
Not happy about having to chase this but they did sort the issue out.
I was refunded the bulk of it but I was still charged for a transformer that I did not hire/use or take. I also didn’t get any allowance for bring back a day early, meaning it should of been at a two day rate not a week.
Shop staff were great, wasn’t there fault as order was processed online but the system in place didn’t allow them to sort the issue then and there.

I contacted the branch and was told to order my equipment online which I did, got the confirmation it would be ready on the day it was booked for. I went to collect the equipment and the counter staff told me the equipment wasn't even in the county and doesn't think it will be here within the week. Not only did it cost us a days work but has now delayed the project and upset a valuable customer of ours.

Booked electric trimmer & RCD online to use over weekend. Turned up to collect and staff wouldn't allow it to go out (correctly) as RCD was not in the branch. On the branch computer they booked the RCD to come in later that week. Turned up a second time and... the RCD still hadn't turned up! They phoned a despatch driver to confirm the RCD could be delivered to the branch later. So it took 3 visits to successfully pick up the trimmer and RCD. The staff were very courteous, apologized profusely, and gave me a good deal in the end. But HSS's computer system sucks. And they really need to have more RCDs in stock.

IT'S GOT NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MANAGER'S PROCESSES, AND EVERYTHING TO DO WITH HOW THE COMPUTER SYSTEM IS UPDATED AND ADHERED TO. Didn't you even read my review properly??

Ordered carpet cleaner online.
Helpfully the store contacted me to say not in stock but arranged delivery from another store - but it arrived without the cleaning fluid, the stain remover or the attachments I had requested - so not useful.
Driver promised to follow up - didn't
No apology (but a refund) on return to the store
