I've started using Vectone Mobile here in the Czech Republic in April this year. They seem to be pretty new to the Czech market, but it's pretty easy to get ahold of a sim card, although the mail took over 10 days to get into my mailbox. After putting the sim into my phone, I topped up via the web portal and I purchased a 3GB data bundle. The first problem arose when the data couldn't be activated. I called the local customer service and I was surprised that they actually speak some English. This was also the only time I could get through to someone on the hotline. They were able to reset the sim card and the internet worked from that moment on.
The international calling rates they offer are great and probably not a competitor can offer prices like that. I've only used these rates on a few occasions, as data calls are more common today and I rarely call across the border anyway.
I live in Prague and you would think that the coverage is decent when you are in the city. Actually there is only 3G and 2G coverage and quite often I happen to only have 2G (Edge) connection, which is barely usable.
Another problem I had from the start and still have to this day is that I cannot use iMessage on my iPhone (with my Vectone number). Every time I lose service and regain it, my phone asks me if I want to activate iMessage. In the beginning I always confirmed this, which turned out to cost me quite a bit of money, because the phone sends a text message to an Apple server in the background, for which you have to pay, depending on your plan. It turned out I sent about 150 texts to Apple in the first month. It still never activated anyway. I was only able to use iMessage with my email addresses. I don't seem to be the only person with this problem, as I read a review from someone having trouble with sending SMSs to certain people. I can totally relate to this, as I sent multiple messages to people, who never received them.
I tried getting in touch with Vectone over the phone and email. I was not successful reaching the customer service and I never heard back via email.
Another topic is roaming. They advertise that you can use your Vectone service within the EU (including data). When I left the country twice, I was not able to get any service. I couldn't even make an emergency call - if there had been one.
The biggest issue came up about two months ago, when all of a sudden I was not able to use the data anymore. Apps can't connect to the internet, using a browser doesn't work either. There has not been a solution until today and when I contacted the customer service (via Twitter - they actually respond) they called me and tried all the "you are a stupid customer" kind of things. I am very tech savvy and have been using smart phones with mobile data for years and I actually work at a global tech company. So all the "turn off mobile data", "turn on airplane mode", "restart your phone" etc. options have not worked - and obviously I've tried them before. Even putting the sim card into another phone didn't fix the problem, so I am 100% certain, that it is a Vectone Mobile problem.
The problem remains the same, although they sent me a new sim and transferred my number.
I am done now and I took my business to T-Mobile and everything works flawless. Never would I ever recommend this provider to anyone.
