My experience with VanMoof has been a true nightmare. There are really no nice words to put this down. Their customer service is so so bad. If you are looking into buying a bike from them be prepared of getting your email ignored for days. That's what's happened to me. I live in London and I have been interested in buying a VanMoof bike for months and once I have decided to make the investment I had noticed that they wouldn't be able to ship my bike for over 4 months. Obviously understand the complications of a global pandemic but such an essential maker like bikes should NOT have delays whatsoever as bikes are crucial items for people survival during these hard times. Said that I have been trying to speak to customer services for days and by doing that the date of the delivery kept on moving further and further away. It's now the 18th of May and apparently I won't be seeing my very expensive bike until the 18th of September. This is outrageous and unacceptable. Especially when people have to make an investment and not see their product for months. They should charge people only when they receive their bike. Disgusting experience.

I’m an X2 owner. Before that I owned their original electric bike. I love this company for their improved bikes plus their friendly service. I’ve never had a problem with customer service. As I’m in America and they are in NL there is Sometimes a delay but nothing drastic. I might get the X4 one day but for note I’m happy keeping my X2.

Wow- these guys should read these reviews and respond. It sounds like the service is so awful that it is a scary risky buying experience. I had my cart full and credit card out. Read the reviews and ran away. Seems like something a couple of smart guys would want to address internally.

Pre-ordered the S3, decided to cancel after seeing it, and is taking 2+ weeks to process a refund. Their phone line is disconnected.
Update: After complaning on Trustpilot, I got the refund.

My S2 does not shut down when I press the button. VanMoof is not helping since months and does not reply to my emails anymore, althoug I still have full warranty on the product. Poor quality and poor support.

The bike looks great and works well around the city. I've had the ES2 for 1 year now. I've had reliability issues with the kick lock functioning and also the boost button. While there is a warranty the company aren't very accommodating if you don't live in a city with a store (4 in the world). The main issue I have is the lack of removable battery. As a city bike, who's target market live in apartments, it's a real pain having to recharge. They need to add a removal battery

Booked a test drive online in London, turned up and they then tell you if you are under 18 you can't test drive but you can buy one. Wish they had told you that before !
I was going to buy 2 bikes from them but the very snobby reception I got from them really turned me off !
They are behaving like they are Apple and its a must have bike. Come on, you are a start up and your bike is unproven at best so when you someone like us is willing to support you and you start behaving like you are already an Apple for bikes you wont have much of a future. The competition is very strong and in many instances better !
Van Moof, to be the best, you have to first start off having great customer service !

I purchased an S1 MODEL , after two years the bike would not operate electrically , a long drawn out conversation with Van Moof came to nothing , as i live no where near London !!!! they even mentioned sending the bike back to Amsterdam (at my cost ) the warranty is not worth the paper it is written on , they more or less said that as this was at the time an earlier model it was not worth there time and effort to repair it , they offered me 500 euro toward a new one !!!!! very let down customer !!!!!!

I love the bike but it does have some deficiencies. I'd rather the matrix display showing the battery and speed were up higher and more visible so I didn't have to look at the floor. The automatic gear shifting could be a lot smoother; it's kinda jarring. I'd like the option to change the bell sound which should be an easy software fix. Also for the price I've heard that it really should come with torque sensor for pedaling instead of the cadence sensor; after pedaling with it, it makes sense that it should be powered by how much pressure you apply to the pedals. The bike is a little on the expensive side but if you don't mind spending the money it's great.
PS I found a weird little malfunction (maybe it's a feature?) with it auto-waking. I keep the bike inside (I live in an apartment and have nowhere else to store it) and I often transport the bike by truck. When I put the bike in the back of the truck I don't lock it because the alarm would go off while driving so I leave the bike on and unlocked. I get home and I roll the bike inside. It's safe inside so I still don't lock it, plus if I need to move it out of the way I don't want the alarm going off. About a week goes by and I take the bike outside and my phone refused to connect to it and the bike refused to turn on. It was still unlocked so I could ride it, unassisted of course as the motor wasn't turning on. So I take it back home and think maybe I need to lock and unlock it to wake it back up. I lock it but then it wouldn't respond at all. It wouldn't move (because obviously it was locked) but it was still entirely unresponsive, meaning the manual pin unlock still wouldn't respond nor would it connect on my phone over bluetooth, so I had no way to unlock it. At this point it was an expensive paperweight. I eventually plugged it in to charge thinking maybe the battery had somehow died and it woke up and was back to normal. It had a 70% charge so the battery hadn't died it was just in a deep hibernation I guess.
TL;DR Don't leave it on and unlocked for an extended period of time. Make sure you plug it in and lock it/turn it off.

When I am riding my electric S2 many people were stopping me and telling me what a beautiful bike and are asking where did I bought it: Vanmoof from Netherlands... The same happens to me when I am walking with my dog: such a lovely dog, which breed: it is a silken windsprite from Austria...
I bought the S2 online and I never thought, that this bike would make such fun. I am completly satisfied.
Some 2 little improvements I would suggest:
- I am also riding the bike without electric support in the mode "0". In this mode it is not possible to use the "boost-bottom".
- when I am riding for example in mode "2" it is not possible to change into mode "3 or 4" during the ride. I have to stop until zero speed and than I can change the mode into "3 or 4".
This bike changed my life, the onyl thing I have to claim is that my dog can not always go with me....

Could not be more disappointed. The bike was dented, had two right pedals and a rubber cover over the electric wires and brake wires kept popping out. When I phoned they said they could send me the parts and I could take it to a local bike shop. I have terminal cancer including the brain which means I can’t drive. Hence the electric bike as my new line of independence. But for a bike that is over £3k it is not good enough. I paid a lot for the brand so am totally disheartened and not prepared to have to fix it all at a local bike store before I have even started. I am going to have to return it. Even more hassle and time wasted for me. Shame. It looked a promising company but it clearly isn’t.

VanMoof ES 2 - best invest ever! After a test ride in Amsterdam I signed the contract and 8 weeks later I picked up the new eyecatcher bike at the Amsterdam store. Since July 2019 I rode 3.500 km through rhineland palatinate, where I stay, through Berlin, Munich, the Spreewald and around the Bodensee. It‘s a really great and a fast bike. Highspeed was 63 km/h downhill and the average speed is 28 km/h. The longest distance with a full battery pack was 148 km with Level 1 or 52 km with Level 4 in summertine, current with temperatures around zero degrees or less, the battery pack only holds a maximum of 50 km. It is so much fun and joy with the ES2!

I bought the S2 Electrified as a test, it made me give up my scooter in Paris ( your are going faster inside the city now ).
4.5/5
+ Design is great, the power button is just awesome, long battery, the lock, engeerining in general, impression of speed
- The battery is not removable, that s the big issue to consider, you have to charge it from home ( bike quite heavy) or with a cable from your place ( in winter it s an issue ), the ring is not recognize by anyone especially pedestrian ( big issue in basic UX, should be able to change ) i had to buy a classic bell, the brake is not up to the bike, a shame considering the rest. The lock thing sometimes doesnt work so always double check it s lock...
In general very happy with it, i recommend

The range is only 38 miles, and I am unable to charge it at work. My commute 14 miles each way, so I really want to leave home with a fully charged battery.

I'd buy it again in a minute. Great bike, great design.
Everyone wants it, but because of the technology built in, they can't have it!
