We engaged with Tyson Strategy to design and build a website. This company is run by Sachit Sinha.
Subsequently, we found ourselves doing a great deal of the design work. Later down the line, we found out that the work seemed to be outsourced almost entirely to www. expertvillagemedia.com, a company in India. The designs proposed contained many errors that we corrected. This extra layer of subcontracting substantially increased the alleged charges, although we never knew that the work had been sub-contracted for.
Consequently, we were told that we had used up all of our provided-for updates to finish the job, and then we needed to pay them more. We suspect that we have been billed for all of the internal communication time charges between Tyson and the subcontractor, which is wrong. We are currently in a legal dispute with Tyson and they are withholding our coding for the site. All of this is completely unreasonable in our opinion.
For prospective users of an IT provider here are 5 things to think about:-
1)Agreement on who specifically does the actual work. No subcontractors.
2)No charges for internal communications with any subcontractor. Detailed time billing.
3)Time frame for completion and agreement on the specifications of what you call 'finished product'. (Agree on this; otherwise you could be served something not what you expected. We were.)
4)How small is the company you are going to use? Can they really deliver what they say or will they subcontract without telling you? (We had a bad experience of this.)
5)How much do you want to be involved? (We were personally involved heavily, not by our choosing.)
