My sister and I recently took a tour with France Off the Beaten Path in the Loire Valley for her 50th Birthday. We had such an amazing time and appreciated the thoughtfulness of the guides, hotel staff, chefs, and everyone who attended with us. We highly recommend this tour and are going to consider the Province tour for another visit to France. Thank you for making my sister's birthday so special!

Had a great time. Wonderful trip.

The visits to the chateaux were overall well-planned although I felt rushed to see Chenonceau but had more than enough time at Chambord. A bit more historical background for the stops would have been welcome. The best parts of the tour were the trip to the winery and lunch there in the owners' home, along with the visit with Christophe and Angelique Quantin in their lovely home. They were all so gracious and welcoming. The small size of our group made it easy to get around and to keep up. I will be recommending Christy's tours to my friends and hope to join her again.

This is our second trip with Christy and David, as we visited Provence last year; both trips were terrific. In the Loire, we had a week packed with castle and garden visits, wonderful meals and plenty of laughs (thanks Bill and Diane!). The lunch at Fred and Louisa’s Winery was delightful, Chef Damien’s class and cheese tutorial was great and the highlight was our evening with Christophe and Angelique in their family home. We assisted them to produce a wonderful meal that ended with Christophe’s award winning tarte tatin. I’ve booked to go back to Provence next year!

A wonderful comprehensive tour of St. Rémy and surrounding towns in Provenance. Our tour guides, Phillip and David, were exceptional!! The hotel was charming and centrally located. All the food and wine selections were excellent. Our fellow travelers were lovely. I recommend without hesitation!! Just sorry it’s over!!

We enjoyed the trip so much, our guides Philippe and David were very professional, humorous and knowledgeable. On our last day, Philippe took us to buy cheese and olive paste which we brought back to Singapore. Whenever we enjoy our cheese with champagne, all the beautiful memories from off the beaten path will surface in our mind. Thank you for the wonderful memories!

A truly wonderful experience I shall treasure forever. Our guides were so welcoming , friendly and knowledgeable. The opportunities to opt in and out of things were much appreciated and there was never any pressure to do one thing or the other. The location, food and experiences provided were second to none, as was the company. Thanks for everything.

Arriving in Provence, we were welcomed by our hosts Phillipe and David and immediately felt like we were visiting friends rather than joining a tour. We had a great combination of food, wine, cooking, chocolate, walking, history, shopping, wandering on our own, experiencing life in Provence, meeting great people, and making new friends - all at a pace that avoided rushing. We couldn’t recommend this trip enough!

My wife and I loved the Bordeaux trip. Christie and Remi really made it excellent. We went during grape harvest season, end of September, so there was a lot of activity at the vineyards. Our favorite day was spent at famous chef’s home. He, Antoine, and his wife, Claire, hosted us for an amazing meal which the chef taught us how to cook. My wife and I don’t like fish so he cooked a lamb shoulder on his outdoor wood fired grill and added that to his planned menu. This trip is among the best we have ever done.

Bordeaux was the best yet. The wines, the cheeses, the Dune Blanche, oh the pounds!! The hotel location was excellent, the guides provided so much great information about the history and the area. The shopping rivaled Paris with less crowds. I want to go back already!! Thanks for a priceless vacation.

My wife, and I have traveled with Christy Destremau, and “France Off The Beaten Path” before to Provence, and had a fantastic experience.
Our latest trips to the Loire Valley, and Bordeaux (back to back) once again proved to be “trips of a lifetime” Christy, and her team of experiences guides made our journey through France a special one.
The attention to detail is what makes “France Off The Beaten Path” tours special. All the various aspects of Christy Destremau’s tours are unique, as a result of her personal relationships with the people involved. The Chefs we cooked with, the tastings we experienced, the hotel accommodations, and all of the restaurants were superb!!
My wife, and I strongly recommend “France Off The Beaten Path” for a vacation to remember.

Our trip with Travel Off the Beaten Path Covered a lot - a day in Arcachon, Cap Ferrari and the Dune Pilat; a day cooking in the home of an amazing chef followed by a private tour and tasting in Sauternes, a day in St Emilion learning about the history of the town and enjoying a private tour, tasting and lunch at an outstanding winery, and a day doing a foodie walk in Bordeaux and learning of its history complete with a private cheese and wine tasting in the cellar of a fromagerie. This trip was packed with interesting, fun, unique experiences, all in the company of our new friends from Travel Off the Beaten Path. Magnifique!

My mother and I had a wonderful time on our Loire Valley trip this past May. Christy put together a fantastic itinerary that gave us a really well-rounded view of the region. Not only did we visit all of the major chateaus I had hoped to see, but we also had really unique experiences with local chefs and winemakers that we would not have been exposed to had we been traveling on our own. The tour and luncheon at Chateau Montdomaine was a particular highlight! I really liked having Amboise as our base; its a charming town and our hotel, the Pavillon de Lys, was lovely and centrally located. Christy and Remy were warm and considerate guides; I really enjoyed getting the chance to visit with them as well as the other members of the tour. (We lucked out and had a really delightful people in our group!) Thank you for making our week in the Loire so special!

Our experience with 'Off the Beaten Path' was exceptional! We loved the mix of hands on experiences, social gatherings, historical education, and recreational activities. Our tour guides were very knowledgeable; they provided personal advice about the area attractions with wonderful insight. Our hotel was perfectly located, extremely comfortable and quiet. We hope to be back!

We had a wonderful time in Provence. Everyday was a different experience. We really enjoyed the walks and the evenings we had on our own to explore or relax. We will definitely be doing more trips with Off the Beaten Path in the near future.

After reading many of the reviews for OTBP, I have to say I agree with all the positive aspects of this tour from the top notch staff, great activities including seeing the abundant lavender fields, a wonderful boutique hotel with central location in St Remy, size and camaraderie of our small group, great planned dinners and lunches (I also liked having 2 nights on our own) and not having any worries as to planning our days or transportation. There are often 2 activities to choose from in the morning and/or afternoon so my only complaint is that I could not do all of them....but that’s my problem and not a bad one to have, I might add. I highly recommend this trip. Have fun :)

Exceeded our expectations on every level. Extremely well organised with very good communication at all times. The excursions were excellent and we particularly enjoyed the opportunity to cook and eat in private homes. Can't fault anything from first contact to departure. We had a wonderful time with a great group of people. Highly recommended. Thanks Christy and Remy.

We are so glad that Nancy found France off the Beaten Path. The tour met all of our expectations. Phillipe and David were gracious hosts and very generous with their time and information about Provence. We enjoyed each day and the new things we saw and learned. We really appreciated and enjoyed the extra day we spent with Phillipe. He put together a very enjoyable and informative itinerary for us and took us to all the places we wanted to see. Nancy wanted to see the lavender in bloom and he took us to the best places. We got very nice pictures during our visit and are enjoying those we received via Dropbox that David took. Thanks to everyone for a great week in Provence. It was all we expected and more.

We had a wonderful tour of the Chateaus. Christy is delightful and knows so much about the Loire area. We were very busy visiting the Chateaus and local towns. It was so interesting to learn about wine and cheese and to work with the chefs was really interesting. I highly recommend others to take a tour with Christy, she makes you feel so welcome. You really get a good introduction to French life in the countryside. We have many happy memories from our tour. Everything that was on the tour description was included in our tour. Our driver, Remi, was excellent. The food was excellent.

We enjoyed many aspects of the week, especially the more cultural/historical options, and the wine-tasting we had initially understood would be a more significant part. Gourmet meals were also a pleasure.
Activities we were less interested in included viewing lavender up close (we have farms at home), and anything to do with markets. (Markets are the same everywhere in the world, full of tourist tat, except for food - for which we weren't "in the market"!)
Philippe's and David's talks were mostly appreciated, although there was a tendency to "over manage" and/or pack too much into too tight a time frame...or to entertain for its own sake. For us New Zealanders, "luxury" means smooth comfort, care and programming, but without quite so much display.
On the whole, however, we enjoyed our interactions with the team and our fellow group members: a great bunch.

We did The Provence and Bordeaux you’re back to back. Every day of our trip, we felt like we had had the best day we could imagine and it couldn’t get any better. Each day was even more awesome than the last! Small group, fabulous Philippe and Rémy, and truly “off the beaten path” experiences that give a local’s view of life here. We’re already making plans for the Loire tour!!

We did the Provence tour. 8/2019. I had taken the tour 2017 & this time
my husband came with me. It was just as fabulous this time as
it was in 2017. Restaurants, picnic, sights, wine, all of it
just delightful, but the frosting on the cake is a the knowledge,
insight, humor, & attention to detail from David & Philippe. To
us, they make a great trip soooo much fun. (also, 3 of our neighbors
joined us this tour). Don't hesitate, take this tour & enjoy!!!!!

I took out one star because the lavender field we went to was not that great. Considering the timing of the tour (July), I expected stunning rows of lavender plants on rolling hills all around. Instead, the field has very sparse lavender blooms interlaced with wheat-looking tall grasses. Other than that, the whole tour experience was great as it exposed me to the history, culture, food and people in Southern France. I like the options given to those who are not walkers. The restaurants chosen for the tour were very good. The daily itineraries were thoughtfully planned to allow for down time. Philip and David were great tour guides with very intimate knowledge of the area.

We felt the planning that went into this tour provided an exceptional experience for us. The venues were carefully chosen to offer a wide variety of learning and rich unique experiences. Each day was an adventure with many great surprises along the way. Dinners, lunches and wine tastings were carefully chosen to provide a rich experience. The staff was professional, engaging, informative and fun-we felt lucky to have them. We will always remember this experience and it was even more than we expected.
