Truly the greatest hub for open source software on the web. Great for all platforms.

SourceFourge has everything ranging from safe software, to malware-laden junk. As with any other download site, use caution and research software before you download.
I wouldn't recommend for average users, but it is a fantastic source of some excellent pieces of software, for those who are willing to spend the time it takes to ensure that they are not downloading junk.

SourceForge is a great place to download free open source software. It's been around for over a decade and has hundreds of thousands of projects to choose from. They also recently added a malware scanner that scans all projects on the sites to make sure they do not contain malware. All downloads are now https as well. Highly recommend.

Sourceforge had a period in 2015 when they bundled adware with 3rd party installers but since they stopped the practice I chose to trust it again.

Rating 10% trustworthiness (deep red), 40% child safety (BARELY in the yellow)
See changedx's comment for reasoning. If you still download from this site, then run ALL of the downloaded programs through a reputable malware scanner (NOT Norton or McAfee), without exception.
They may have "fixed" the problems in the meantime, but I don't trust them not to do it again.

Since I posted my last review they have cleaned up their act.
Even Windows Users can breathe easily here now: they have new owners who shut down the "Install Wrappers" on their projects within 6 months.
I now trust and recommend them again.

I spent hours trying to remove malware. My last download (I forget the program) took over my search engines on all browsers. I probably spent four hours trying to rectify it manually and Chrome remained infected. Unfortunately many companies still use Sourceforge. Please be very wise if you even think of using this site - it could cost you hours of time or a lot of money to get fixed - who knows - you might lose data?

SourceForge was acquired by a new company earlier this year and has vastly improved since then. They have added https support, removed all bundled adware, they scan projects for malware, and your account can have 2 factor authentication enabled as well.

While many downloads on this site are safe, there is some malware to be aware of. I don't like it when official websites redirect their download links here because there is often unwanted programs that come with other things you download. If possible, only download software from the official site, not CNet, not Sourceforge, etc... So because of the unwanted programs/malware, I'd have to say that the trustworthiness should be suspicious, and child safety should be not suitable. And no, I don't agree that this is a good site.

No longer a reputable site, according to some (see below). Bundles crapware or worse with downloads.
I downloaded a free Sudoku game. It sucked. I uninstalled it using windows. I opened Chrome and checked email. A few minutes later, I noticed my hard drive working hard, so I opened Task Manager. The Sudoku Downloader was still running 10 minutes after I uninstalled the crappy program. You can guess what it was installing. I sure hope Mban can undo it

Bonjour, les installeurs sont modifiés pour ajouter des logiciels parasites à l'installation
Review by Kriess3 years ago
Sourceforge staff creates installer of the software hosted in their site containing crapware without the permission of the developers of the projects.
/Edit: Since SourceForge have stopped this practice of co-packaging other unwanted software, I'm changing my rating to positive.
An old trusted friend has sold us down the river, that how I feel about SourceForge.
I tried using a Nokia program
and encountered the following bundled in the installer:
YouTube Accelerator https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/youtubeaccelerator.com
Swift Record https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/theswiftrecord.com
Apps Hat https://www.mywot.com/en/scorecard/appshat.com
While the user can opt out, no self respecting site would allow these programs near it's site as they are known for browser hijacking and no/ineffective installers. Many of these are flagged as malware in own right by VirusTotal and for good reason.
This change apparently came about as a result of change of ownership of SourceForge.

SourceForge is a trustworthy site and vendor of (open source) software.
Edit; I know whose downvoting me you cunts, unless you want banned off myWOT or doxxed, take my advice, Sourceforge has been serving software for years, by downvoting my comment you are outright lying that the site itself has perpetrated in distribution of malware.
Update; Oh lookie, Finnish neckbeards hate the truth or more so, like a site that plays itself as a game, myWOT proves my point by downvoting all previous comments Keep them coming boys, hopefully you banning me.
Hey superhero, mate...fuck off. You're the cancer that inflicts this site with it's poisonous ratings. Fucking mass-rating tool, what a ragtag of fucking idiots made this shit...no wonder I left.
