Never use this company - dishonest and deceptive rip off repairs and no way to appeal. Terrible experience with Sixt in Slovenia. After the number plate was stolen (criminals slid the plate out of casing that wasn't screwed in) I am charged 6 times what I know the real price is to replace the number plate. They took 5 weeks to demand payment, only after they closed their feedback survey and are refusing any discussion. From when I picked up the car they were trying to trick me into paying extra. They are deceptive and fraudulent in their business and I have no way to appeal.

I rented a car in Mykonos and gave it back with a fuel deposit but unfortunately I did not make sure that the Sixt employee does an assessment of the car with me. Once back home I noticed a additional charge from Sixt that they told me is for fuel charges because the deposit was not full. This is a lie, it was full. Have sent them a claim but they insist in saying that the deposit was not full. Will never rent with them again, for sure not.

- do not guide you in picking up the car and allow you to check the damage yourself, whereby they only mark (partially) the listed damage with a marker.
- afterwards still leave you with toll costs that you cannot check
- Atreturning the car, they secretly take a photo of a so-called damage that was not there yet and do not involve you as a customer. you will only receive an e-mail after departure, which was a so-called damage for nearly € 200.00

I had a bad experience with another car rental company so had to return to Dublin airport to hire a car at the desk. The young man at the Sixt desk Sean Hart could not have been more helpful so the end of my day after what had been a nightmare ifew hours was turned into something positive. This was on 22 August 2019 at around 10 45 pm. SEAN#excellent service.

This company is a joke. My father is going to Florida in a week. We found a car online and booked it. I booked it under his name and I put it on my card because he didn't have anything on him at the time. I called once I got the reservation because I noticed that it automatically changed it to me as the renter. I spoke to girl named Irene who told me I could call back with my fathers card and switch it to him and go from there. An hour later I called back to try this and was told we couldn't. They went on to cancel my reservation and told me car was no longer available to book under my fathers name. I asked to speak to a manage and got a supervisor who told me she was the highest person I could talk to. I tried to ask her where the car went that was booked to me and she kept telling me the same thing as if she was reading a script. If a reservation is canceled the car should then become available, correct? I asked her the over book. She continued to tell me the same line from the script and wouldn't let me get a word in. I got angry and annoyed because its worse then talking to my 3 year old. He can at least come up with more entertaining answers be probably tell the truth. My next question was where does the car go? it not just an idea or thought. Its an actual thing. If you just canceled my reservation before i asked for it to be canceled then the car should become available. if it doesn't? what kind of scam are you running. I had to give 1 star because 0 stars inst an option. The customer service is terrible.

RUN, DON'T WALK! Made a reservation over Internet and upon arrival to Madrid Airport they didn't want to allow us to use the insurance provided by our credit card because they said we had to decline their insurance upon reservation - but they don't provide any way to decline it. We walked away and rented from a different company - Eurocar. Then Sixt charged our card for $330 and lied to the credit card company that we actually rented the car from them, so now we have to spend a lot of time to dispute it!

Renting the car was fine, just like any other rental company. My review is for post rental.
When I returned the car we found a small dent in the door. I don't recall anything happening and I denied that I caused this damage. The employee was extremely friendly and said "Perfect, not a problem, if you didn't do this, no issues here". I then appealed the damages and everything was fine.
3 MONTHS LATER....I get a letter in the mail that said there was additional damage found to the car on the rear bumper. They attached a photo and there is no damage to the car at all. It rained when I was there and the car has water droplets on it.
I was charged $462 for damages and a $50 admin fee.
Don't use this company. You'll rent a brand new nice car for a few days, then get charged for damages you didn't do.

Rented a car in Frankfurt September 2019 from the Konrad-Adenauer-Str 5-7 branch. Booked through Expedia. The manager there denied the booking I had with them and refused to enter any discussion even though I had the booking and the terms in writing. Said I shouldn't have booked through Expedia. Then tried to sell me a car at a higher rate. Disgusting, nothing short of criminal behaviour, extorting money from customers. No wonder they get terrible reviews.

No One star is the lowest score but I’d prefer to give zero.
Awful customer service, terrible vehicles that aren’t inspected for basic safety issues and when you complain, not even an answer to my email in one month!

I would not rent a car with Sixt again - summary as follows:
1. The assistant at the airport denied I had booked full insurance and collision damage waiver and tried to re-sell to me on collecting the car in Toulouse - I had this in writing yet they still disputed it. They are clearly trying to confuse and fleece customers;
2. Offered me a far inferior car to what I booked;
3. On returning the car in perfect condition, being under the mileage allowance and on time, I noticed an additional, unexplained bank charge on my statement;
4. I have received a letter (in French) implying further costs are due but with no explanation given in English. I am English, booked the car from the UK, hold an English licence and made payment from an English bank account.
5. Have not responded to my email seeking an explanation.
Overall, very poor. For those reading this, I suggest you go with another rental agency.

Dealing with Sixt has been one of my worst experiences ever. First of all, they gave us a car with overdue maintenance, which was causing all kinds of warnings and problems to the point where the car unexpectedly ran out of liquids (AdBlue) and wouldn't start anymore. After finally making it through to customer service, which is taking an incredibly long time on the phone (they think nothing of letting you wait at least a half hour), it took most of a workday to refill the liquid.
As more and more and warnings kept coming up, we decided to replace the car, especially since a Service A maintenance means that brakes and engine might not function too well anymore and we are travelling with small children. Why would Sixt care about safety, right?
After the horrible experience of renting a car with Sixt, the fun wasn't over yet. They told me I could send the bill for refilling the liquid to their customer service, which is completely lethargic and not responding to anything. In the meantime, they billed me for something on my credit card without even an invoice, so there is zero transparancy. Inquiry about that once again results in silence, so now I need to dispute the claim.
Never again, don't rent with these scammers!

Have posted before that I was happy with the price, and the car. I have just received the invoice from Sixt to handle first penalty charge notice from DART to cover 1 crossing of the QE2 bridge, something which they really should point out when hiring, as the 'handling fee' is £40! So when I came back over the bridge, I will receive another penalty charge notice for £37.50, and another handling charge of £40. Very poor, will re-consider as the trip cost me £205. Not happy, how much money are this company making out of not advising people of toll charges for hire cars?

Buyer beware! Watch out for the fast talking counter agents and their up sells. Fear tactics used for things like toll passes, pre paid fuel and additional drivers. My extras added up to as much as my rental for the week and doubled the cost of my contract.

I have been renting cars for 40 years and have never had an experience like I had with Sixt. I rented a car in Norway, declined collision insurance as I always do, took photos of the car before leaving the lot, and then treated it like a baby for a two week vacation (never parked next to anyone, always used covered parking). I returned the car in Oslo, where the attendant told me they would inspect it later. I took another complete set of photos and then went on my way. Imagine my surprise to get an email from them 3 hours later that the car was damaged. They attached photos showing paint scratches on the UNDERSIDE of the bumper. There is no way I caused that “damage” but I could not contest that, as my photos (both before and after) did not include that part of the car. There was no way to get those pictures without laying on the ground. They then claimed that repairing that damage will cost $800. Lessons learned;
1. Do not rent from Sixt.
2. If you have no option but Sixt, pay for complete damage insurance even if it costs you up to $800 extra.
3. If you can’t afford the extra $800, be prepared to get down on the rental car garage floor and photograph every square inch of the car, including the underside. Be aware that based on other reviews I have seen, no matter what they WILL find some damage on that car that you will be charged $700-800 for. See lesson #1.

Sixt service desk employee was very nice but ignored our online invoice and completely overcharged us again on a new invoice. We are at a loss of 543.00. we are going to let our credit card company handle it. Sounds like they do this bait and switch scam a lot!

I rented a car from Sixt last August in Ft Lauderdale, FL. I was happy with the initial experience. Staff was friendly and I ended up upgrading to a nicer Mercedes SUV. When getting to the car I noticed a lot of damage on the rear bumper. They had given me a document that described in words, no diagram or pictures, where the existing damage was. I checked it out and everything seemed to match. Before driving off the lot the middle head rest was flopping down. I stopped and a manager came out and said it was fine and put it back in place. Upon returning the car the women mentioned a new scratch on the rear passenger side. I showed her the document that described the exact location. She then showed me a diagram, which I had never received that showed the first dent was a few inches away, and that this was a new one. After a discussion she said I was right and to not worry about it.
A few weeks later we get an email wanting to charge us for the headrest. We explained what happened and they dropped it. Then a few days later we get another email about the dent. They are trying to charge me $675 for the little dent that wasn't even from me. I keep fighting them and will 100% never give them a penny for it. The second we got the first email, we put a freeze on the credit card so they couldn't just charge it for whatever the hell they feel like. And I'm willing to let them take me to court to fight this BS.

We rented a car in Munich. I ordered the gold plan to expedite through the lines more quickly. This cost $24.00. When I arrived, they only had 1 line called the gold line. Total rip off option. I waited over an hour to reach the desk. We were told to tell the attendant to change our gps from German to English. We never saw an attendant. The car wasn't properly cleaned. After a few days on the road the dash said to adblue. I didn't know what this was. I found out it's an additive. I had to pay 10 euro to buy a bottle and add to the car. This should have been done prior to our departure. I shouldn't have to pay for it. If nothing else, they should reimburse me for the adblue and my $24 Gold line cost. Of course, I don't expect to hear from anybody.

My experience with Sixt was not perfect but good in the end.
Branch: Olbia Airport Sardinia.
I booked with them because they allow rental (in Italy) with a Maestro card, I don't have a real credit card and their prices were good for the cars they offered.
I chose the cheapest model, Mini Cooper, and got it as promised. It was almost new
it had great options and I loved it, my ecological driving behavior got me to an economical consumption of 3.8l. I paid 230 euros on the spot for 10 days (great deal), 0 euros prepaid and a 300 euros for the security deposit that I got back quickly. The man who showed me the car was really nice (understood the 30min we took to inspect the car), so was the one who received it at the end and congratulated us about how clean it was, inside and out.
The bad part of my experience was my worrying. I started reading the avalanche of terrible reviews just before I left. I always take good care of the cars I rent, but there I went over the top and joked with my GF that I was turning into "Inspector Sixt". And inspector Sixt was paranoid and a pain the a... about every parking spot's safety and a real sand nazi. I was glad to leave that guy in Sardinia as we boarded our plane to fly home.
The only bad thing I can really say about Sixt is that the counter lady (who was also nice) had to apply the sales technique of scaring me into buying the full coverage which costs more that the rental itself (260€ for a 230€ rental). The borderline legal aspect of it is that she said that my 1000€ limit of coverage was for each damage. She said 5 scratches on the car could cost me up to 5000€. That seems illegal to me and absurd, destroying the car would cost me 1000€, 2 scratches 2000€.
In the end my experience with Sixt was good and I felt like sharing it here because it seems like only people with terrible experience are posting and I want to reassure those who have already booked and prepaid that if to take real good care of the car everything will be ok. But I can't speak about what would have happened if I had had a scratch, and those can happen even if you're careful. Would they have taken advantage of it and made me pay a 1000€ or would they have charged me 130€ like it has happened to me in the past with another similar company for a scratch done by a third party while parked? And to put things into perspective about accidents, my GF used 50mb of googling images without a data package for Sardinia and it has cost her 150€...
CONCLUSION: good experience a bit tarnished by worrying due to comments only of negative experiences (I now know that it is possible to have a good one) and the scaring into buying full coverage..

I was in a rush when I returned the car and failed to notice that my wallet fell out of my pocket when I was collecting my belongings. (The check in was all very quick and easy.) Unfortunately I realised my error after going through airport security but was able to get through on the phone, where they quickly checked the car and found my wallet for me, and then arranged safe return of said wallet!! Such a relief

Two experiences renting from Sixt - both times they tried to charge me for damage claims. I had paid for the insurance, but they sent me invoices (the first one i don't recall how much, the second for 582 euro). Luckily I had taken photos of the cars when I dropped them off, so I was able to dispute their claims. As soon as I sent the photos showing there was absolutely no damage, they sent emails saying it was their mistake and they'll drop the claims. The first time, I thought it was just a fluke. But after the second time, and seeing that they do this to anyone who pays for their insurance, I see it is a total fraud. Do not rent from them, and if you do take LOTS of photos clearly showing there is no damage!

Its completely a scam.
After i returned the car for few days, they sent me an email. The email told me that a footmat was missing. I am pretty sure nothing was missed during my journey with the car.
I told them the footmat was probably missed after i returned the car and asked them for evidence to prove the footmat was missed during my journey.
After ten more days, they replied after investigation i was fully responsible for the loss, and of course no evidence was provided to me. They charged me eur122 for a fxxking footmat, in which eur50 was administrative cost.
Avoid this company, its a scam.
If u are still going to rent a car from SIXT, please take a video of the exterior and interior of the car when you get it in their garage.
