Service was pretty good. What my issue is that we were quoted rates prior to the telephone interview which we provided our identification (DLs) and any meds we were prescribed. After SBLI looked through the medical records from the visits to the doctors in the past, the rates went up. My wife and I were completely honest yet we were later penalized at a higher rate. Well if you are taking anxiety meds, you may have had an issue with anxiety or depression in the past, yet they said my wife was classified as mood swings. That went over well. The to top it off, my weight was listed 15 pounds more that I have ever been. Why? Because some nurse or admin person that weighs you in first thing through the doctors office door. They typically do that before they stick you in an exam room. At no time do they ask you remove your shoes, boots, coat, and or empty your pockets. So that misinformation in weight ran my premium up and was told maybe next year we can change it. That is if I go to the doctor again. Next time I am stripping down to the nude and making sure they write down the correct weight, without all the cloths etc. I offered to go to the doctor to prove I am not overweight but the sales rep from SBLI said no, maybe next year. Always be aware what the staff write down when you are at the doctor, because it will be used against you right or wrong.

Overall recommend. I eventually got the rates I was advertised so I am mostly happy. But the application process was confusing with several follow-up phone calls, never talked to/heard from the same person twice, and then radio silence for a couple weeks before my approval. Happy now but frustrated during the application.

-No in person screening required
-Sales reps were very nice by phone
-Very quick to contact me after I requested contact online
-Worst of all: someone misread my medical record and raised my rate above what they initially quoted me. When I called sales rep to point out the error, they initially told me on the phone "it's not that much higher, but do what you want." I don't think it was too much to ask for 1) accurate information in my record and 2) not to pay more for their mistake. Luckily, I was informed enough to look back at my record and send the accurate information with an explanation directly to SBLI and they updated the rate.
-It took over a month to get a policy in place, which felt quite long because the sales reps were very quick to do the initial work (within days). Nearly 3 weeks were spent waiting for the underwriter to review my record and then it took about a week to fix the mistake I caught.
-Was contacted again during the process asking me to "start the process" by someone I already spoke to who forgot they had spoken to me--making me confused as to where I actually was in the process.
I was disappointed in the underwriting process but given that I had good service initially with my sales rep, I'm hoping for the best.

Good helpful people, reasonable policy, excellent very helpful agent, a long process with the underwriters wanting more and more info from my PCP. Took close to 6 months to finally get this approved for a 63 year old extremely healthy person. A couple of numbers slightly high, I understand your concerns, but 6 months is a little long.

Honestly, the process didn't make sense. I call a person, they give a tentative quote, then send an email for me to play phone tag w/ folks who take in your medical history but can't pronounce any of the medical words fluently (was kind of already given in the first call and this step could have been done online). I was then be ask for money from call center person who can't answer any questions or speak in the medical terms, when a final outcome/quote wasn't known. Why would I give you access to take money with no firm quote or policy?? Yes, this was not what I expected and I wonder if all companies are like this or should I still be shopping around? Not a lot of trust build with this process

The application process was very smooth and fast. I received the rate I was initially quoted, so there was no surprises. The small problem I had was the telephone interview. The person was speaking very fast and her microphone must have been damaged because parts of sentences were muted out and I had to constantly ask her to either slow down or repeat a question.

SbLI is not the company it once was when I signed up for life insurance over thirty years ago. To be honest, I am wondering if they will be there for my family when they need them the most. The quotes I received were not the price I ended up paying in the end and it was because my weight went up 5 pounds! They keep sending me a document to sign and the payment has already been made and I received a confirmation number for it! I’m disappointed.
