When I feel the need to become one with nature, I come to Railroad Park. I like that I can find parking and get my laps in while enjoying the calmness of the area. I love the view and the landscape of the overall park. I would recommend it for walks, runs, and the kids area looks inviting.

Who doesn't love railroad park? This is a definite go to spot to bring friends from out of town if you're looking for a walking/jogging trail, to people watch, picnic, or just enjoy being outside! The track around the park is .75miles and includes a few hills and stairs. There is a smaller track on the inside of the park and it is built so that there are many options to transition from the inside to the outside track so you can change up your path. It is right across the street from good people brew and next door to regions field so lots of good vibes and energy all around! I love going for a run here or taking my pups on a walk. They have soggy poop bags available around the track and plenty of garbage bins! The park is super clean and has a pavilion area in the middle where you can get some snacks or catch some shade :) if you haven't been you're missing out!

I am from out of town and read about this new(ish) park and thought I would check it out. Nice to have a park in the middle of the city. Great views of the city, waterfront, green space and tons of paths to run, walk, bike, etc. I felt safe when I went for a stroll yesterday even though I am not familiar with the area. I found free parking right along the park and it didn't seem too hard to get a spot. All kind of people were doing their own thing at the park (playing, reading, walking, running) and it was great to see people using it. There are a few different paths that all vary in length. There were lots of garbage and recycle cans throughout the park and the park was very clean which was refreshing.

Beautiful park with a variety to do and see. You can grab a Zyp bike and ride along the path, work on your summer body in the fitness area, watch the sunset, or perfect your skateboarding skills in the skate park. It was a truly relaxing stroll and wonderful end to a day of exploration in Birmingham.

Having been in Birmingham for over half a decade since its opening, Railroad Park continues to be a downtown staple. Even living on Highway 280, I make the park a destination when I come downtown. There are plenty of great food options within walking distance but the Park gives plenty of options to exercise, relax, or a pit stop before a Baron's game. A great destination in Birmingham!

Love this park. It has everything you could want! Views of the city, waterfront hangout, skating, green space to play, walking paths for running or walking, play space for kids and easy access to food. Birmingham has done it right with this park. It's always so peaceful and a great spot to enjoy some sunshine. It's easy to forgot you're in the middle of a city when you're here!

I was introduced to Railroad Park while doing a 5K for the American Heart Association. Railroad Park's address is 1600 First Avenue South, Birmingham, Alabama 35233. It's a beautiful 19 acre green space venue adjacent to downtown Birmingham, AL. The park is where the old Birmingham railroad yards used to be. Plenty of trails run throughout Railroad Park - and another Rail Trail that goes 3/4 of a mile or the length of the park.
The Park board controls Railroad Park, and the Board goes to the extra effort of protecting the resources - whether green grass and flowers, playground equipment or water features - the beautiful lake, wetlands, ponds, or streams.
Make time to visit Railroad Park. It's worth a visit or choosing to attend an event there.

What a gem this is for Birmingham! Thoughtfully designed, well maintained by the park foundation, and just beautiful.

This is a great place to visit daily, weekly or once every now and then.. I would suggest visiting often it is at the top of the list for a free outdoor destination. It was my first time visiting as we had to vacate our home for the afternoon and needed to also take our 13 year old Standard Poodle (Lassie "Bear") a beloved member of our family with us. We walked a few smaller paths and saw a dog learning to ride a skateboard. So funny. Such a beautiful park with a wide array of people doing various things. My husband took some pictures of me with our dog. I hope I can find an add to this review. As he passed away the following year. . We are so glad we took him because that day he walked tall and proud and really seemed to enjoy the visit. I wish we had taken him earlier but I did not know what Railroad Park was like. My husband had visited when he was helping film a video. I just read about the ice skating I would highly recommend everyone and all ages to visit here. I would suggest bringing a water bowl for your dog. We bought some water for us and the the dog. We had to get a cup and offer to him. Birmingham has so much to offer and I have to say This was a very pleasant surprise for us. It's also a great memory of our beloved "Bear" who seem to gain a pep in his step and with the wind blowing he was taking in fresh air and new scents.

I really like Railroad Park. Some of the best events are held here. Last night, I enjoyed Symphony in the Park and two months ago, I had a great time at March for Babies. There's a cooking class and many other interesting things to do.
I love that the park has a no smoking policy. I also like the foliage and the grass is so green. Back when I was a part of the Pokémon Go craze, this park was a regular destination of mine.
This is a nice park to hang out with family and friends. It's in a great location so you can walk to grab a coffee or food and have a picnic in picturesque place. The Birmingham Barons stadium and Good People Brewing is right across the street so it's a great area to have a good time.
Oh...and even though I'm not a dog-lover, this park is dog-friendly.

Great place that has been cleaned up. The amazing walking track to the grassy area with plenty of room for a picnic makes this a family great for an "in-town getaway."
The fairly new Barons stadium brings this area to life. Although not much parking to be had being its location, I would not let this deter a great park on a clear Sunny day. Go out get fit and enjoy.

This is one of the best parks in Birmingham for family fun. Bike rental, popsicle trucks on the scene, and walking trails. The park itself is very scenic, but still manages to have a playground, plenty of room for tossing a frisbee, bathroom, pavilion, and exercise area. One of my favorite parks right across for regions field.

Man... I've been around the birmingham area long enough to remember this park before and during its EXTENSIVE renovation, and wow the place looks good. Feels open, safe, and inviting. The city does quite a few events year round here, and the atmosphere is well improved. There are small vendors at the edges of the park that sell treats, they have a coffee shop across the street, and the concession stand (while par at best) is smack dab in the center. Great relaxing walks and plenty of green space for picnics or lounging. A great addition to the downtown area.

When you visit a new city, what is the moment or event or venue that begins to unlock the doors of your mind so you can appreciate where you are?
I came to Alabama and Birmingham with a lot of baggage. I can't get my head around the incredibly polarizing politics and startling history. I had been driving around Birmingham when I stopped at Railroad Park. My brain suddenly threw those thoughts out the window as I walked around the park and saw joy on the faces of so many who reveled in this beautiful space.
It was here at this moment that I would begin to realize that Birmingham had now become one of my favorite cities.

Railroad Park is one of our favorite places in Birmingham. Whether you want to take a walk or jog, play with your kids on the playground, or just sit in the grass and have a picnic, this an incredible place to do it. You can frequently find fitness classes like Zumba or yoga, community events like festivals, Symphony in the Park, camp outs, outreach events, and more! In the winter they have an ice skating rink that's fun for the whole family! There's an on-site restaurant and frequent food or ice cream trucks. It's such a gorgeous spot. We even watched a wedding from afar once!
Come check it out and bring the whole family!

This was our first visit to Railroad Park's ice skating rink. We visited right after Christmas during the mid afternoon. It was packed. Thus parking was limited and we had to drive around. As we looked at the rink with all the people we wondered if there was any room to skate. Turns out that more people were standing around the edge so there was adequate room to skate.
A separate building sells you the tickets (for unlimited time skating), but you have to go to take yourself and your wristband to an adjacent building where you swap your own shoes for a pair of skates. When you're done, you get your shoes back when you turn in your skates. A novel and clever idea I thought.
As I mentioned it was a small skating rink compared to Pelham Civic Center. I was expecting it to be bigger. The entire rink is "elevated" so there are a few steps to climb. I'm guessing that the refrigeration magic occurs underneath the ice. As crowded as it was, there was still room to skate at a gingerly pace counterclockwise. There's no Zamboni so this was first time I observed how they resurfaced the ice manually. A young man skated across every inch of the surface pushing a large "scraper". Then they "spread" a thin layer of water across the ice.
There is a small building at the venue that sells food ranging from burgers to gumbo. They have small tables and plenty of chairs scattered around the rink. I got 3 cups of hot chocolate on this cold day for $4 each. A little pricey I thought. Perhaps when I return I'll review some of their food.
This outdoor ice skating is obviously seasonal and I think it's a wonderful option for Birminghamians to bring kids and families for a fun couple of hours. The Railroad Park venue is perfect. Before or after skating you can walk some trails, take in the sights with Region Field right next door, Good People Brewery and the lakes. If you visit during a typical day and not around a holiday, you'll have plenty of parking and much more room to skate. Either way you'll have a fun time!

I absolutely love this park. It has wonderful views, great trails, and pretty wildlife throughout. It is an amazing break from the hustle of downtown. I highly recommend this spot, for locals and tourist alike.

I came out to Rail Park on a Tuesday night around 8pm. It's essentially a big common area for people to gather with a walking trail on the outer perimeter. Outside of that, there's really not a lot here. Might be nice for a Sunday stroll with the family and there is a lake but not a lot of sites to see. I would not make a special visit out here.

One of those new city park/urban landscaping right near downtown Birmingham. It's well-kept and fairly modern. Even though it started to sprinkle a little and get dark out, there were people jogging, walking their dog, biking, etc. around the park.
There's multiple trails, none of which are too long. Everything is out in the open with few trees, so you don't feel hidden in all the foliage. There's a few ponds and an artificial 'waterfall,' so you can get an excellent cityscape shot by the water.
There's parking around the streets that surround the park. Wasn't busy at all for a winter evening.

Railroad Park is a wonderful addition to the city of Birmingham. Being across the street from Regions Park and down the street from Good People Brewery, it is a convenient location and frequently visited by a lot of people. There are a lot of paved walking trails and green space for picnics, flying kites or throwing a football. And, if you don't want to sit on the ground, there are table and chairs. It is a great place to eat lunch on a sunny day. You will also find joggers, small children riding bikes and occasionally skateboarders. There are "bowls" for skateboarders to ride in. Sometimes there are special events in the park and they are open to the public. Sometimes the events are free and other times there is a cost. Visit their website to know what is going on.

One of the best parks in Birmingham and a big part of the revitalization that took place several years ago. It's not a "deep in the woods" kind of park; rather, if you like the idea of walking on trails right in the middle of the skyline of downtown Birmingham and a more urban feel, this is the place.
The location is super convenient right by the railroad (but still far enough from it) and very close to Regions Field, restaurants, Good People Brewing, etc.
This is a great spot to bring your pets, sit down and relax by the water, have a picnic on the large greenspace, etc. They even have concerts from time to time outside and during the holiday season from Thanksgiving to New Years there is an ice skating rink available for a fee.
Overall, a fun and beautiful place to walk around and enjoy the scenery of downtown Birmingham.

Great repurposed land area in the heart of downtown and alongside Regions Field. Several walking trails to choose from, a relaxing water feature, clean bathrooms, bike rentals and a place to let your dogs get their freak on. Part of the trail is elevated so you get a nice view of downtown. We felt safe here and really enjoyed ourselves. It was better than we expected (and free!)

Nice park in the downtown area. Would be nicer if more people would respect it and not trash it up, I mean there are plenty of trash and recycle cans located around the park to use, I guess some people are just too lazy.

Simply put this park is Awesome! Paths that lead around the outside perimeter, trails that go by the water features that flow throughout the park, open grassy areas (picnic, Frisbee, etc), pavilion area for special events....this park really has it all.
While we were there they were wrapping up a Cajun Cook off, which smelled amazing! During the summer they have music in the park. They set up an amphitheater type stage and the sound is really good.
Nigh time is a great time to visit as well. Water that trickles down from a bridge has light effects illuminating off the water/pond area below.
Ponds and water features are full of marine life (coy and turtles primarily) which add to the adventure, especially for kids.
Great place to walk your dog and get a chance to socialize them with other dogs out for their afternoon walk.
Love this place and will be returning throughout the summer. Hope to see you there!
