They don't tell you - use in a restaurant. AUTOMATICALLY puts 20% of balance 'on hold' with some assumption you want to tip that amount. My dinner for my friends over 100.00. Told waiter put 75.00(full value) on this crap card and the rest on AX. Waiter came back and said will only take 50.00! WTF. AND when I called days later, an illusive hold of $10.00 is still on this card I haven't used! AND - if you want to purchase something MORE than card, pay with other form of payment first OR it will reject. WTF. This card is CRAP. I'm embarrassed but will tell my very kind friend of the issue so she hopefully NEVER uses it as gift to others.

I bought a Visa Vanilla prepaid gift this afternoon and activated it at 1:12 pm. I loaded $265 onto the car to spend on bills; however, after activating my card I sat down and paid a bill for $9.99 and then another for $61.91 in one setting which left $193.10 on the card. Within the next couple of hours 21 TWENTY ONE online purchases were made for a company called Nitro Discord, which is apparently some sort of Australia based website to buy online video games, totalling $140 leaving $53 left on the card. I have never once heard of this company not did I know anything about it until I looked it up. There is no number or customer support to get ahold of on their website to file any sort of complaint. I called the number on the back of Vanilla gift card and was told to file a dispute that will take 45-90 days before I even hear anything about the issue. Meanwhile, the card was deactivated along with the $53 that was still on the card and now I won't have access to that balance until the 45-90 dispute period is up. I bought the card in it's cardboard box from a CVS, went straight home and opened it, then tucked it away in my purse and that's where it stayed until I pulled it back out to pay the rest of the bills I had intended it for. Long story short, this company is garbage, customer service is zero help, and they scammed me for $193 within a matter of hours.
Attached is just SOME of the 21 unauthorized transactions that were made today.

Vanilla Gift Card Visa prepaid cards are horrible, thieves and customer service is in another country.
I purchased 50$ gift card, I had .87 cents left, I tried to buy a snickers and it declined I had a 50 return pending on my card from target, okay so 3 days ago I check balance and it tells me to call customer service, I did....she (call came from Phillapenes) told me MY CARD WAS DEACTIVATED but still had my 50$ refund from Target and my .87 cents. And since my card was .87 cents over meaning I had a credit of 50.87 cents, they get to hold the Money, deactivate the card and KEEP MY MONEY, until I give them my full names address, [email protected], date of birth and phone number. Okay oh then a copy of Debit card and receipts of All my purchases I made on the card....otherwise she states, they hold the money forever. I asked them to REFUND MONEY BACK TO TARGET AND SHE TOLD ME I didnt understand her. No I understand you ARE A THIEF AND ILLEGAL AS HELL

I went on a trip and made a horrible mistake and used this card at hotel. The hotel I stated charged $100 for incidentals . Once I checked out the pending hold will be removed. funds that were put on hold would return and be in use, now this card put hold at $120.00 yes Vanilla will do this to you ! Most cards will release the funds back in 3-5 days ! Not Vanilla , I had to wait 30 days ! Plus the charge .95 for every transactions
Please don't use them

This horrid financial product is sold throughout the US military inside the various exchanges and commissaries. Unfortunately, the online access is essentially nonfunctional, serious questions posted to the many review sites for the company are never answered (see below the reviews on this page), and the approach to reloading is prohibitive if not entirely impossible for a service member *unless* they agree to a continuing direct deposit - which ensures that this company has your money every month, whether or not you actually want to make that deposit at that time.
This is a terrible financial product and everyone should stay away unless they live within very close proximity to one of the few automatic teller machines (ATM) with deposit capabilities and you need to routinely make card-based (online) purchases but do not have a debit card.

DO NOT PURCHASE THIS CARD!!! In addition to what everyone else wrote on here, there are hidden fees for not even activating it right after purchase! And to register the card to activate, you must provide your SSN & other personal info (which is unknown at time of purchase) and you cannot return it (at Walmart).
DO NOT Waste your time and money!!!!!!!!! Protect your Personal Information!!!!

I was purchasing these for my employees - what a nightmare! I am out $100 because my employee can't use the card because it was fraudulently used by someone online. My employee called customer service and was told that it was used by someone else. So I called customer service and even though I now have the card again, and I purchased it! - they won't deal with me because my employee had already called. I don't know if thieves scan the cards on the Walmart rack or what - but I will NEVER buy another one!

I have had many problems with this bull company and my latest one is you can only reload the card 2 times a day. I needed to make a payment today for my utilities and now I'm sitting here in the cold and dark with Canadian winter temperatures because I can't reload the joke of a card. NEVER BUY THIS CARD !!!!! I feel someone in this company should have to pay for my suffering

Purchased the "temporary" card on September 9, 2019. Didn't know it was temporary as those details are lacking until you purchase the card and read the pamphlet inside of the sealed packaging. I've been waiting on my actual card ever since. Today is October 1st! I have called 3 times, each time asking to speak with a supervisor and each time I've been declined and my requests ignored. I was told on September 22nd that my card went to the wrong address and a new card would be sent out that day. Nine days later I'm being told I have to wait until October 4th and if it doesn't arrive then I'm to call back, but I can't speak with a supervisor. I was advised on September 22nd that a supervisor would call me back, but that has not happened. This company and its agents are not sympathetic, lack customer service skills and make no concessions or arrangements to lend to a good customer experience. There is no choice for no stars hence the 1 star.

The worst reloadable debit card on the market, I put a hundred dollars on a card. I went online to activate, answered all questions correctly. They asked overbearing questions for identity verification. After forty-five minutes of this ridiculous circular questioning, we finally decided to call them on the phone. The first person on the phone could barely comprehend the English language, after a half-hour of incompetence and them not being able to solve the problem we got the next person up the chain. We were informed that they could not verify who we were with their identity system, even after all questions were answered correctly. I asked what would be necessary to use the debit card that I had put one-hundred dollars on. Another half-hour pf phone time they informed me that I had to send them a color picture of my social security card, my driver's license, a bank statement or a utility bill, and a copy of the receipt from when the debit card was purchased. I emailed them the requested information but they could not confirm receipt of said information after another half-hour on the phone. I had to wait three to five business days for them to process the information. #MyVanillaCard sucks!

This company is a total scam I got a My Vanilla Card at a local Walgreens. I gave the cashier an undisclosed amount of money. And I called in to activate my card and I was told I would get a card in the mail with my name on it and it had my last name spelled wrong. And the card was made out of cardboard and not plastic.

Since being with MyVanilla I've had to get four replacement cards usually because costumer service not being able to put in the proper info to access the account and they end up suspending the card until your able to send the proof you are the card holder, then you have to wait for a replacement card. Next they don't send out term changes they say it's our responsibility to go on line to find out if there's been any changes. Now they've slipped in an extra $1 for ATM withdraws when they never actually never charged anything but they 50 cent transaction fee for all transactions at that time. Now it's 95 cents with an extra dollar to withdraw from an ATM. Bottomline they don't care about the customer all they care about is our money.

Do NOT get this card. If you got this card as a gift (as I did), take it IMMEDIATELY to a store and buy a gift card to some store for less than the amount on the card. The problem is, that when you try to use the card, this company puts a "hold" on your card for the amount you try to use. You have to know EXACTLY the amount on the card less the amount of the fee they are going to charge (the fees are different amounts and the holds are different amounts) so you're most likely NOT going to get to use your card. So when the transaction fails (and it WILL fail), the company says you have to wait 7 business days for the "hold" to fall off. They refuse to let you talk to a supervisor. You WILL lose all of your money and there seems to be nobody to hold this company accountable. DO NOT GET THIS CARD FROM THIS COMPANY!

Very difficult to register the card and requires personal information. Rude customer service. I opted to withdraw my $130 and bring the card to 0 for close out. That was declined insufficient because of fees. I then withdrew $120. They have even charged $.75 because of the decline in addition to the ATM fees. Now I have lost $10 plus the initial cost of the card. Also, I'm concerned my personal info is not safe. Never buy this card!!!

LMAO, what a scam. i bought this card to use it online for a game purchase and just no. IT WASNT WRITTEN THAT I NEEDED TO BE 18 YEAR OLD OR OLDER ON THE CARD PACKAGING, NOT WRITTEN ON THE CARD NOR THE INSTRUCTION PAPER THAT CAME WITH IT.
WHAT A ***** RIP-OFF.
so in short, please state on the packaging ''18 year old or older'' please?
can't even refund it lol, somehow managed to buy something with it and the purchase will probably get flagged as ''fraud'' in the next couple days.

Yeah I was shocked when I saw all the negative reviews. I have a My Vanilla Visa debit card. The card you load and can reload. I didnt want the prepaid one. I knew I'd need to register it to create an account. I expected I'd need to give personal info so that they know it's me and not someone claiming to be me. I got pretty much the same assurances as far as my privacy and security is concerned, as I got from facebook and my facebook accounts been hacked twice already!
The fees to load, withdraw and use at pos are a bit higher than a couple of cards maybe but in the end it's the price I'm willing to pay. I checked reviews by financial institutions and magazines before I got it and found out unless you use a debit cart associated with your bank acct. The number of reloadable cards is dwindling and there are are only 3-4 available. In general I'm really happy with my card.

Don't use this card.
I have a MyVanilla card that I purchased and registered over a year ago. Yesterday, I decided to pull it out, call MyVanilla to that it was still active and useable (which they confirmed that it was) so that I could load it up and pay some minor bills. So I put $47 on it to pay 2 bills, plus I paid the $3.95 My Vanilla load fee. Yesterday, I successfully paid one bill.
Today, I attempted to pay the second bill and My Vanilla keeps "declining" the transaction. I called to inquire why and they took me through an account verification process, "lied" and said I failed the account verification process, and froze my account. Then they had the nerve to tell me I would have to pay $9.95 to close the account, that they would subtract from the $37 I put on the card yesterday to pay a bill, and that they would send the remaining balance via a check in 30 days to an address I have not been at in over 1 year.
Capitalism at it's finest...

COMPLETE BS! I HAVE NEVER HAD A PROBLEM WITH A PREPAID CARD BEFORE I PURCHASED A ONEVANILLA VISA CARD! Card wouldn't go through on an online purchase so I tried again due to the fact of knowing I had JUST PUT over $100 on it. Got declined, declined, declined. Come to find out it authorized for the amount 4 damn times! Now I have to wait 7 business days to get my $ back?? Dumbest $#*! Ive ever heard. Save yourself the hassle and dont think twice about purchasing this scam! Ridiculous. Even customer service on the phone are pathetic as well.

Called and told me it would not release for 72 hours! ...75.00 for 30.00 of gas, left me with 25.00 for the day when I had other items to pay for that I didnt want to use my personal credit card for ( ie online purchase ect) NEVER AGAIN. Called 2x asking them to release funds, refused! Said I had to wait. NEVER EVER AGAIN
