Excellent day from start to finish! Our guide Hendrich was a fountain of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm, fun and friendly - made a full day fly by in a flash yet packed so much in and got to spend quality time at each adventure experience/place. Highly recommended Iceland mountain guides for maximising time in this most beautiful country! 👍

Review for 10 day Landmannalaugar Skógar Trek:
Pros: Website is easy to navigate and easy to book. Able to communicate with agents via email. Food was adequate.
Cons: Was charged twice for trip due to glitch in computer system. Was not informed of impending 7 day snow/rain/wind severe storm conditions until 10 minutes before trek began. Was not counseled the day before to pick up extra gear or make sure participants were well equipped for severe storm conditions. Equipment list had many things that were "recommended" or optional, but really should have been "required". No equipment check prior to trek by guide. IMG should have info guide include about chance of severe storms in summer time and what to expect/bring if that happens. Guide seemed inexperienced and ill-equipped for conditions we faced (ie emergency radio did not work, extra equipment). More than half the participants had to stop after 3 days of trekking due to bad weather and insufficient equipment to keep warm and dry. I am unsure of how many people completed the whole trek, likely none. Emergency services were called on first day of trek due to white out conditions. Unsure as to how IMG thought these conditions were safe to guide 10 people with a single guide who has minimal experience with how prepared their participants are. Guide also did little to raise spirits, discuss culture/food/landscape/geology of the region, discuss our concerns, give weather updates.
Upon calling IMG to discuss my concerns of unsafe travel and severe storm conditions, I was informed that severe weather did not warrant exchange or reimbursement of services. I could understand a couple days of bad weather, but 7 days of severe storms necessitating emergency services and more than half of the participants leaving for safety reasons is poor business practice. When I returned to Reykjavik, tour offices warned against going to the Landmannalaugar Skógar area as it was "unsafe". IMG denied exchange for a couple day trips in the unaffected areas.
My advice to anyone considering IMG trekking trips is to hope for good weather, bring more than you need for severe weather (think high sierras in the early spring), hope you get a better guide than we did, and don't be surprised if they aren't accommodating if things go wrong or putting your safety first.

The whole experience was great. The guys were really cheerful and chatty. They trained us how to walk on the glacier and showed us all the best spots with an interested story/explanation to go along. Would definitely go back again with these guys in a heart beat.

This was a wonderful tour with friendly and knowledgeable guides. A unique and fun experience. Icelandic Mountain Guides was very professional and they provided equipment as needed. I felt safe and like I was in good hands.
My only caveat is that the tour was marked as "easy." While the on the ice walking wasn't overly challenging the hike in was worth noting in the description. For those who don't have a lot of hiking experience, such as myself that was harder than expected. Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend it.

We had booked this tour well in advance. Due to bad weather, we had to cut the glacier hike a little short (for which we received a partial refund). Despite that fact, the guides took us out on a great tour and were very knowledgeable. They had a great sense of humor and were very passionate about the ecology of the glacier and the island.
This company is great and can be trusted to get you on and off the glacier safely!

The guide was very knowledgeable and the group small. It was much better (and safer) seeing the glacier in a small group (there was 3 + the guide) instead of other companies who have many (like 25 people). As a bonus we also saw a few ice caves even though it was a glacier tour and not an ice cave tour. The prices are reasonable too. Awesome experience. I would recommend Icelandic Mountain Guides!!

We took a 12 hour trip to explore 2 waterfalls, walk on a glacier at Skaftafell, and look for the northern lights.
Our guide was patient, punctual, well organised, used a nice vehicle, drove safely, exemplary group managent and successfully included everyone with his leadership. He made us feel safe and welcome.
Impressive professionalism. Would have loved to spend more time with icelandic mountain guides.
As a former professional guide and trainer of climbing instructors and rescue personnel, i can tell you that IMG are pros, and you will have a great day (but dress warm!!! lots of layers and food in a pack needed)

Even only walk for 2~3 hours, we still enjoy the astonishing scenery, absolutely we will go back to Iceland in the future and we'll choose the Icelandic Mountain Guides again.

My wife and I booked a trip with Icelandic Mountain Guides along with five of our friends. We did the zodiac tour of Jokulsarlon and the glacier walk. Our guide was incredibly friendly and knowledgable. Not only did she give us a ton of information about what we were doing / seeing during the course of the tour, but we had great conversations about life in Rekyavik, the countryside, and Iceland in general. She was great company.
The bay and hike tours themselves were more impressive than I had expected. The fresh, blue ice is other-worldly, and this was the closest we got to it during our two week tour of the Ring Road. Playing amongst the washed-up glaciers on the beach was a highlight of the trip. Walking the glacier was much more interesting than I had expected. I suppose I had imagined it being akin to a snowy hike, but there was a lot more going on than that. It's a living mountain with underground rivers, dynamic crevices, and lots of attendant Icelandic folklore for it all.
We really enjoyed this trip and this outfitter. Just know that there is almost nothing to eat in the area (we managed to squeak into an expensive buffet at the only hotel in the area, but barely), so plan ahead.

This tour was well worth the money. They had boots to rent which came in handy. Our guide Hendrick was great. I would recommend this tour.

Our hike was almost cancelled due to impending bad weather but the weather ended up holding off just long enough for us to go, thankfully. We appreciated their attention to our safety. Our guide Anna was fantastic, friendly and very knowledgeable, wonderful 3 hour hike that was one of the highlights of our trip! The only small downside was the others in our group moved at a slower pace, which was unfortunate, but out of anyone's control!

We were a group of four girls. We did the hot springs and lava caves tour. we were picked up by Max and brought to get hiking boots/waterproofs at the office. We were able to borrow gloves, jackets, pants, etc. which was very useful!
We did a 40ish minute hike through lava fields, looking at hot springs and bubbling puddles! It was amazing. The highlight however, was definitely taking off all our waterproofs and sitting in the 39 degree Celcius river. like getting into a hot bath! it was incredible.
After that, we explored some nearby lava caves which were also amazing. We felt the tour was quite overpriced for what it was, but we had a great day none-the-less. I think we all had a soft spot for Max by the end of the day also!! :)

From the moment we got in the bus to the moment we were dropped off in the evening it was a fantastic day. The only negative part was that the day went by too fast! The guide was knowledgeable and friendly and the tour could not have been better, even the bad weather was an exciting feature.
I highly recommend Icelandic Mountain Guides. Keep up the good work!

Very smooth, easy process for booking and coordination. Our guide Jon was excellent as both a "tour" guide as well as a glacier climbing guide. It was amazing that he was able to locate the Northern Lights in a night that was pretty cloudy the whole time except for a 15 minute break. Would highly recommend the company for their Icelandic tours.
