I've just opened a 1-year savings account with this bank. I have only transferred a small amount of money and planned to transfer the rest once I received all the necessary details in the post. The online registration confirms you need the following: customer number, magic word and mobile phone number.
I'm stuck at stage 2 of the registration process as it now asks me to enter the code sent to me by text. Well, I haven't received a code and just wasted 10 minutes talking to somebody, to no avail. I told him that unless the code arrived today, I will be closing the account.
I've never experienced such problems before
4 Jul update - have registered an official complaint. Can't even close the account now. Just grateful I only deposited £100

Appalling Treatment From This Bank !
Worse decision ever made was to open a business account with this bank. We are a new business and on our very first transaction in from a well-known extremely reputable company and our account was frozen without warning ! Being a new business, we are relying on this payment to pay our staff, sub-contractors and expenses but are unable to do so. Numerous calls to the bank and even visiting the branch and still no-one can help! We then received a cold, callous signed letter from the Customer Services Director ‘AK” (I have the decency to not embarrass her by putting her full name) advising that Metro Bank are unable to continue to act as our bankers and are closing our account in 7 days’ time from the date of the letter. What is going on? We desperately needed to find out, locate this payment and make our payments for the work carried out. After calling the bank wanting to speak to AK, was advised that she is only contactable by letter! In this day and age? A letter? You can’t speak or even email her or a member of her team !
After speaking to several Metro staff by telephone yesterday, we were assured that if the payment was re-attempted, it would be reviewed and if they were satisfied, the transaction would take place. Brilliant ! As least we were getting somewhere. No such luck ! This payment has been rejected yet again.
The result of this action? The payment was returned a second time by Metro Bank to the well-known reputable company causing us further embarrassment and feeling of incompetence to our valued client. Our hard-working staff and subcontractors have not been paid which is extremely upsetting for both us and them, along with the unpaid expenses which may possibly affect our credit rating. Then to finalise this, as from next Tuesday, our company no longer has a bank account!
Metro Bank - No wonder your shares have recently plunged to all-time lows!

I had an account and my deposits were in the hundreds, a company deposited £4,000 in to my account, it was a genuine transaction, the bank froze my account, and stopped all payments, now they said they are closing my account, I have filed legal action in the courts against the bank, very bad service and a bad bank.

Metro Bank, without explanation or notice, froze my account completely when I tried to make a transfer. I have never had this situation before with any other bank, they wanted to know the nature of the initial deposits into the account made over a month ago which I only found out after ringing them. Had to make numerous calls over several days to resolve the matter, in most cases their responses were inconsistent, some staff totally immature, inexperienced and unprofessional. Had to obtain advice from the financial ombudsman and also reported to the financial conduct authority. There are several examples online of Metro Bank doing the same to other customers. The bank never put anything in writing, no updates or calls. They only lifted the restriction on my account after I threatened to sue. This bank gave me week of misery and undue stress, I am glad I have now switched to HSBC. In summary, Metro Bank very poor service and far from professional compared to high street banks.

Unfortunately, I had to dispute a purchase done with my Metro Bank debit card. The dispute team didn't seem know what they were doing. After two weeks of being given very conflicting information from different members of the team and after several hours wasted over the phone, and collecting and sending evidence, I was told that they won't even try to get my money back. In sum, they didn't do anything at all to fight my corner although I was clearly conned by a terrible CV writing company who wrote a patently unprofessional resume. They could not even bother to look at the company's website for their terms and conditions. They didn’t attempt to make contact with the company I had the dispute with.
However, what seems even worse to me, is the fact that I had to chase Metro Bank to get regular updates and to have them working on my case. When I called them, they would review my case in 10-15 minutes while I was on hold and then first tell me that I would get a refund, then that I needed to provide more evidence, then that everything seemed to be fine, and so on for two weeks. Nobody has ever called me to give me to tell me what was going on or to ask for more information. I think that if I hadn’t called them regularly, they wouldn’t even bother pursuing my case. It would be interesting to know how many disputes have been resolved by Metro Bank in their customers’ favour. I guess not many if this is the way they work. As you can imagine, it was a very stressful and frustrating experience.
I must say, I've been a very happy customer with them for 7 years and recommended them to numerous friends and colleagues so I expected a much better treatment!
The only other dispute that I did in my life was 15 years ago when I had an American Express card and they were brilliant. I called them and in less than 10 minutes explained what had happened. They then did the investigation on their own and issued a full refund after a couple of weeks without any further questions. No need for me to provide an endless, and apparently useless, list of various documents. That’s what I call professional service that values its customers.
I've raised a formal complaint with Metro, but I don't expect much to come out of it. I’m thinking about closing my account as they don’t seem to deserve my customs.

My honest suggestion for everybody is , if you want to beg for your own money and want to have stress in your life ... Have a metro bank account,
I have been admitted to hospital because of the stress and tension I had from metro bank, it’s been 2 weeks I am waiting for my money as they held that for no reason, I went to the branch and provided all the evidence for my money, it’s my hard earned money and I am helpless, called metro bank 273 times in last two weeks, they still did not release my money and every time I call them... they tell me a new story,
Instead of releasing my money and providing the crystal clear invoices and payslips for my money they did nothing and even contacted my Lloyd’s bank to investigate further,
I am writing this review because this will be the evidence against this s**t
bank if I will commit sucide
They have made me physco
I beg everybody to stay away from this bank , they are worst than theives and full of Crap
