Just been stung by M & S insurance with £50.00 cancellation fee. Having sold my car, apparently it’s all in the small print....but having already hiked up my policy premium, and paid near enough for a full year already, I think I am pretty disgusted with how this company, and many more are I am sure, are charging people by stealth. It isn’t cheap insurance at all, and that in my mind is blatant manipulation in their advertising. I won’t have any recourse, so it is Buyer beware of the wolf posing as a lamb, a British stalwart of retail industry playing tricks to stay afloat....I won’t be heading your way soon M & S...Like Thomas Cooke soon I imagine.

This review concerns M & S Bank. It may surprise many that although it appears to be part of Marks & Spencer there is absolutely no connection except M & S Bank has a licence from the “real” M&S to use the name. M & S Bank is actually owned by HSBC.
Steer well clear of M & S Bank. Do not under any circumstances do business with them. I have complained about a home insurance policy which I never even took up and it has been a nightmare. Their customer service team if you can get through to them (it took me over 35 minutes) is a joke.
The CEO is Paul Spencer. His home address is easy to find if you look at the Companies House website.
I have even discovered there are 4 county court judgements against M & S Bank!!!!!!!!
How can a firm granting credit be allowed to continue in business.
M & S Bank is bringing M & S itself into disrepute. Do not be led astray thinking you are dealing with the genuine M &S you are not.

My broker is M&S car Insurance.
I have just had an accident, someone ran into the back of my car.
m&S passed me onto the insurance Co. Zenith to report the claim.
Zenith is in partnership with MARKERSTUDY, who handle the claim.
MARKERSTUDY are appalling to deal with. They take at least 30 mins to answer their phone. They make it very difficult to get your own choice of body shop to repair your car.
I would advise people NOT to insure with ZENITH or MAEKERSTUDY. M&S need to look at the companies they insure with. IF they want to keep customer confidence.!!

Pontefract food store the levels of service are appalling this is the management I a talking about. Can be waiting at a till where there is a queue and you can see a manager feet away talking to a member of staff and not doing anything about this situation in terms of opening other tills. On many occasions when there are queues the people on the tills ring a bell to get someone to open more tills, I have witnessed
this on a number of occasions and nothing has happened when there are clearly staff on the shop floor.
The latest trick is to be selling a fresh fruit salad which contains jelly one assumes that this means they can put less fruit in thus giving them more profit as jelly must be cheaper. The packaging in large letters says fresh fruit salad and in small print the word jelly is printed. You should not have to study every item of packaging to see what is in a fruit salad, I think this is an underhand way of doing business When are they going to wake up to the fact people are voting with there feet.

I have bought quite a few M&S cakes over time and here are my own personal views for what they are worth.
Chocolate Dribble Cake - Caramel buttercream is a bit tasteless but the sponge and chocolate was good although hard to cut.
Unicorn cake : Again sponge/buttecream good but outside icing too thick.
Butterfly cake - two tier: The sponge was great but icing on the outside too thick.
Festival cake: Disappointing - buttercream a bit tasteless and sponge seeed thicker than on other cakes.
Colin the Caterpiller/Connie the Caterpiller: Good chocolate and good sponge.
Chocolate rainbow cake: Looks good but not a lot of chocolate taste
Rainbow cake: Excellent - sponge and icing really nice but maybe too sweet for some people and not that large for the price.
White Chocolate cake: A bit too sweet for me and not sure why they use cranberry jam instead of their usual jam.
4 Jam Bakes/Lemon curd bakes (4 in a box £2) - Lovely and moreish
Vanilla Tray Bake: Excellent for the price and seems the same sponge and icing as the rainbow cake. I have not tried the chocolate version of the traybake.
Its a shame that some of them are on the expensive side but if they want a tester for their cakes I am that person!

I felt the need to write a review on my recent visit to M&S where I bought some ladies underwear and spent £57.00 on the items I bought, I was then asked if I would like to purchase a bag for 5p, I know the concerns about the planet at the moment but would it be that difficult for M&S to supply a paper bag to make the experience of a little retail therapy a good one. It seems that Primark have no problem in doing this.

MARKS AND SPENCERS - SUTTON - LONDON -
TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
Sutton, 146 High Street, Sutton SM1 1NQ
Phone: 020 8661 7755
I visited the Marks and Spencers in Sutton on a Sunday.
The store was not too busy and would have expected staff to be willing to help.
I looked around for a staff member to help me with the product knowledge.
I asked at least 2 staff members for a cosmetic product where the bar code had faded. I was practically snubbed and told to search the shelf myself for an item with the full bar code.
I left the staff were and rude and did not really seem to care the bar coded items were not visible therefore could not be scanned .
Disappointed I had to leave the goods behind
Discriminating store staff.

No idea where my order has gone and shockingly appalling customer services unable to help. M&S use a company called P2P Trakpak to ship orders internationally. P2P has to be the worst shipping company ever. They are careless and incompetent, as can be seen from all their negative reviews on Trust Pilot. I placed an order with M&S, to be sent to my address in France. For some bizarre reason P2P have handed my package to Customs in France, even though, as members of the EU, items sent from the UK to any EU country do not go through Customs. When I called M&S to ask them to find out what had gone wrong, I was told by someone who clearly didn't know about the EU customs union that it was quite normal for items they send to France to end up in Customs and that I would just have to wait until it cleared! This was clearly so very wrong that I was almost speechless and asked to speak to a supervisor. After waiting on hold for a while, the same person came back on the line to say they had now looked at my order and there appeared to have been a mistake in the tracking information on the P2P site. They thought my order may not have even arrived in France, although had no idea why, or where it is. Someone is meant to be investigating and getting back to me but nothing in my conversation with the customer services person gave me any confidence that they know what they're doing. Why does a major retailer like M&S use such an appalling courier company? And how is it possible that they have someone in their customer services department who seems to be unaware of the EU and does not know that items shipped between the UK and France don't go through Customs? And where is my package?
Edit: There is sidebar on the page while I'm writing this, asking people to tell their friends what a fine company M&S is and how trustworthy they are. Before this fiasco I would have agreed but I have now seen that it just is not the case. M&S have been unhelpful, incompetent and ignorant.

You might think you are getting a good car insurance quote from M & S but look out for the small print! With one month of my policy to go I rang them to inform of a change of address. That added £16 for the last month (well that might be an area risk variable) BUT I was informed I also would be charged another £20 'administration fee' for being honest and notifying them of a change of address. And their response? A meaningless "It's the charge our broker makes". So indicative of the 'grab it and run' approach of M & S and far too many other UK businesses. No wonder customers are heading elswhere.

In mid-November, my cousin purchased a gift for me: classic buttoned headboard, king size, steel.
Unfortunately, the wrong item was delivered on Thursday 11th January. The outer packaging was for the classic buttoned headboard, but the item inside was not.
I appreciate that mistakes happen – that is fine. However, the way that this has been handled from a customer services perspective is extremely frustrating and disappointing. I expected to call the team who would be able to deal with this error promptly. However, after waiting for 30 minutes on hold in the first instance, I then spent another 30 minutes speaking to a member of staff who told me I would have to keep the item in my property until the new (and correct) headboard is delivered. The earliest this would be is around two months time. I live in a small flat in London and this was not a feasible option. Plus I have my mum coming to stay next week and the headboard takes up pretty much the whole spare room (box room).
After 30 minutes persuading M&S to collect the item they wrongly delivered, I have managed to arrange for the item to be picked up on 17th January. However, this means getting a refund and re purchasing the item rather than simply swapping it. I’ve been told that M&S will not issue a refund until they have received the item back and it will clear 7-10 days after. Realistically, this could be the end of January. Until then, it’s impossible for us to re-order the headboard for financial purposes so we are unlikely to receive the new item until the end of March – making this entire order process between four and five months – which is unacceptable.
This is also frustrating from a practicality/financial perspective. I took the day off on 11th January to collect the item. I am now required to take the day off on 17th January for you to collect the wrong item and again for the second delivery date in March. All of this is at an expense to me personally – a loss of £250 per day. In total, the time I will have taken off to collect the item will be almost triple the cost of the headboard itself.
We frequently shop in M&S - I don’t want this experience to tarnish that. However, this overly complex and unfair process isn’t helping.
I was offered a £50 voucher – which I didn’t think was acceptable. I asked to speak to a manager but was refused.
I think, given the time that I have had to have off work totaling £750 in loss earnings plus the effort and hassle I have had to deal with, delivery of the correct item (fast tracked) completely at your expense is fair.

I placed a large order which came in three days. Out of the six items two were damaged. They were not cheap items, but my understanding is that if you pay for a new item you will receive a new item. These two items had clearly been sent out before and returned. Not very impressed.

BEWARE any one out there thinking of taking out M and S Insurance. If you are persuaded to add Legal Expenses cover to your policy and need to make a claim, then the decision on whether to provide legal representation will in fact be decided by a third party. In my case I was refused legal help and because , in my opinion, I had a really good case. I went ahead and represented myself in a lengthy, expensive and stressful court action. Ultimately I received an out of court settlement and won the case.
I then contacted M&S to complain and ask for compensation for my time, court costs, stress, etc. The reply from M&S via their SolIcitor as 'WE HAVE NO DUTY OR OBLIGATION TOWARDS YOU' - Nice!!!!!!!!!!!
I bought the policy from M & S as I trusted their brand name and reputation and felt 'safe' dealing with them and expected any problems or complaints to be dealt with by them.
They are now forcing me to go to Court to argue my case - a massive multi-billion pound corporation against little old me and they are also intimidating me by asking me to pay their costs. Quite ironic that I took out this extra cover in case I ever needed legal representation !!!! Don't let this happen to you.
