I feel like I don't need to give the details because my experience is the same as everyone else. They have helped themselves to 1000 euros before my rental was even finished and are trying to tell me it never happened and that that charge is not on my account. I am reporting them to my bank for fraud. This company is a part of AVIS and Budget so think again before using those companies as well.
We plan on going back to Europe next year and we will completely bypass Italy based on this experience.

This must be the worst car hire company I have ever been to. This company actually does not wish to rent you a car. We arrived at 1631 after a Ryanair flight came in 15 minutes early. We were surprised to see no queue when we arrived. We handed over our rental agreement, credit card and licence and passport. The lady said, "I'm sorry your rental is for 5pm. You will have to come back in 30 minutes."We were disappointed, but believed there were no cars ready. Three more people cam in and were told the same. At 1657, we went up to the counter. There were now around 15 people waiting. We still could not be given a car. At 17:01, a car was on the system. We presented a credit card but the machine would not accept it. It was perfectly fine and no issue with the card, but we had another. Because this American Express card only had my initials and not my full name on it, we were told we could not be issued the car. We explained that all of our cards only has our initials on. I explained that I thought she was being very unprofessional and unhelpful and just did not want to give us a car because we had declined all the optional extras. She was very rude. Refused to speak to the Holiday Company with whom we had booked the car- HOLIDAYAUTOS and holiday autos said they could not refund us as it was after the collection time! Thank goodness for American Express Card protection services.

Maggiore car rent may be the worst rental company in the world! We landed a bit earlier than planmed, but they refused to let us have the car. When the time finally came, the credit card of the main driver didn't go through and they insisted that if my card is used for deposit, we will have to pay a fee of 20€ a day! What a rip off! No other solutions were give. After 2 more hours, a lot of stress and rage and several long distance calls that we had to make, we finally managed to cancel our booking with maggiore (and booked with the local Locauto - a company with a good service)

one of the staffmembers at the delivery desk of Maggoire, Brindisi Airport was intimidating and rude. He charged us € 333,00 for a damage we did not make. “No discussion, just pay” after which he walked away. The two staffmembers behind the desk were playing the good and the bad cop. The other staffmember said they were just doing their job. Obviously not because this damage was made by the previous customer and now charged on is. It was a minor scratch on the wheel hubcap hardly to be seen. Either they did not see it before or it was just a way to squize money out of us. Funny that he placed us on the black list for disresptful behaviour. As if we ever go there again. I would rather walk.

I did not have comprehensive insurance unfortunately and someone keyed the car I had hired from them. They confirmed Euros 267.00 damage when I dropped off the car, the employee told me "not to worry" that he could not charge me straight away because he was busy and that an email with the invoice would have followed once I returned home. He made me sign a piece of paper saying I acknowledged the damage.
A few days later once back home I received an email from them with the invoice for Euros 320.00!!!!! Dishonest!!!!
I wrote them emails asking for an explanation, they never replied. I wrote again asking for the name and email address of the branch manager, never a reply. I wrote to their complaint office in their headquarters, never a reply. Totally untrustworthy!!!!
Don't risk it, buy somewhere else even if the price is higher.
Shame on you Maggiore Alghero.

I'm so gutted I failed to read the reviews before! I hope you are smarter than we have been. We obviously chose this company because they offered very competitive prices. When we got to the desk though, we found out that we would have to pay an extra 240 euros for insurance, which was more expensive than the rent itself. Also, the car we selected wasn't available, so we had another one. No, not an upgrade, just a simpler version. Story continues as the car wasn't there, so we had to walk over 1km under a roasting sun to pick it up ourselves at a parking lot. To put a cherry in this cake, they gave us the car with a lower tank, reassuring us they would refund any difference if we returned it full. Do I need to say they obviously didn't? Well, having given us no proper instructions on how and where to return the car is nothing after all this. To wrap it up: this company is totally cowboy!

I rented a car from Maggiore Sicily due to it being the lowest price. Pickup was fine apart from was told that car had no damage and to take photograph of any damage I found. There were about 5 different small scratches/chips on the car which I photographed - It wasn't easy to see these as it was night time. Obviously, I was unhappy about this as I had been told no damage. When I returned the car, one of the scratches was picked up by the person checking the car over, but I was believed as I had the photos. They also picked up a small scuff on one of the wheels which was probably caused by me and was charged £270. I don't have any complaints about the damaged wheel as it was likely me, but the £270 I thought was a bit high. If you decide to hire from Maggiore, make sure you check the car thoroughly at pickup (even if they tell you there isn't any damage) as if any unreported damage is found at the end of the rental period you may be charged.

Maggiore Cagliari- Please listen to these reviews! I have rented a car many times before when travelling generally hassle free. Used Expedia this time for our trip to Sardinia who selected Maggiore for us. I chose a simple VW polo online and paid extra for the to have the 1000 euro exess removed. I feel much more comfortable in a small car that gets you from A to B. Upon arriving at Cagliari airport car rental I noticed Maggiore was the only desk with a queue - no problem I thought they must be popular. Well, the queue did not move! There is a ticket style system and each person in the queue took between 30-40 minutes I timed! It took me and my partner 2.5hrs to get to the desk, by this time I was just desperate to get out of there as was light headed and hot and had just flown for 3 hrs. I also noticed all the other car rental firms had no queue’s and were dealing with their customers in around 10 minutes. Everyone else in our queue was livid also ruining the start of our holidays. At the desk I was given a much more expensive car that I did not ask for and feel more nervous driving and was talked in to paying three hundred pounds more!!! I am currently in a middle of complaint with Expedia to resolve this. Please use Hertz or Europcar but do not use Maggiore- this was a really bad experience and don’t want you to make the same mistake and ruin the start of your holiday - read these reviews and take note they use scams and obviously the staff are getting bonuses for selling extras that you do not need and scam you in to buying.

they try to make money with selling insurances and they make up some damage. I rented a car for me and my family (2 adults and 3 kids) but I did not buy the insurance. The car was quite used and dirty. As I returned the car we were in hurry to get the airplane. The service officer from maggiore found a "new" scratch and wanted to charge us some strange amounts she could not explain. Iˋll never ever book here again, pure rip-off!!!

From a starting price at 300 euro the car ended up costing 600 euro for 7 days, because of additional costs not shown on the website.
We got a "free upgrade" to a bigger car which was an old Fiat Qubo instead of the new Fiat 500x or similar. Pure scam. The car was full of scratches, no working usb or bluetooth, had a weird smell, broken ventilation etc.

TOTAL SCAM - please for your own sake and welfare, STAY AWAY from this company. Book a car from Maggiore Catania airport, upon arrival and check-in, they told me: No more cars available...
A private car took us to our B&B in Bronte (45km away) with the promise we would have a car the next day. The following day, we followed up via telephone several times. Local office (at Catania airport) did not answer the phone. The Maggiore head office (customer service) told us: Not our problem! We will just give you a refund and you can make your own way (still being in Bronte without a car). An absolute SCAM, total DISGRACE and I would not trust them after they lied several times, both in person and on the phone. How can these maffiosi companies stay in business??

Avoid! Maggiore are scammers. They will oblige you to find all the damage on the car you rent - even at night in a badly lit parking - and if you miss anything they will definitely find the “new” damage when you return the car and then charge you for it. At Venice Airport, Davide is the guy who finds the “damage”. They say you can dispute the damage but most people probably you won’t after the fact and this is how they make their money. The only way to get some degree of satisfaction is to take full insurance next time you rent a car for one day then trash it. The rental car business is in dire need of disruption - starting with Maggiore. Contract Number: 105 29426/5.

Please never ever use this company. Save your money and your time. I have been queuing for 1.5hrs at Bologna airport to collect hire car with x2 small children. Awlful service!! The manager from Avis took the Maggiore staff so only 1 person was serving a large queue. It's disgusting that this has been allowed. So many people frustrated and disappointed. Never never use them. We've wasted x1 day now of our holiday.

I was the customer of Maggiore. Unfortunately I have to emphasized that I "was". II am quite dissatisfied and disappointed with your service and behaviour.
Please allow me to take some time to tell you our negative experiences on 06. Sep. 2019 (ca. 12:00) at the Olbia airport.
During picking up the car from company Maggiore at airport Olbia this Aug. the staff doesn't want to check the car with us and make any documentation, the employee told us in plain text that we do not have to pay attention for every little thing, even if it is a dent, scratch or anything else, because this is not the new one.
During returining the car, they take care even of each small scratches on tyres for getting money from our side. The scratch is really small and absolutly unavoidable. We can not prove that we didn't do this scratch, because they didn't take everything into the report. That's why they asked us for the prove deliberately, because they know that we don't have.
They don't care of safty of customer at all:
We told them, that they have to change the tyre immediately. Otherwise the next customer will get dangerous safety problem. But they don't care at all. We try to show them some safety problem, they don't want to know.
Service is terrible in the airport Olbia on 06.09.19 at 12:00.
Staff: the woman in white blouse, body measurements is a little bit fat; dyed hair; approximately around 50 years old, she is very aggressive, unprofessional and rude. She refused to hear our explain and communication with us. As I asked for her name, she turned back and rant about us. Therefore I can not write her name now.
This is not a sensible service which you offer for the customer, the customer themselves feel uncomfortable. Instead of it she takes the customer not seriously. I guess this is not the kind of service of Maggiore, but the reputation of Mggiore had been damaged throught her rudely behaviour.

Please stay away from this company! It's a total scam! We made the reservation through Rentalcars, where we paid the optional full insurance. At the pickup point they insisted that we had no valid insurance, so we should pay an insurance with Maggiore. They refused to provide the complaint book, were extremely rude and they even laughed when we said we were going to call the police ("they won't come", they said). We had to pay over 500€ extra to get the car (Fiat 500) for 8 days!
With so many bad reviews I don't understand how can Rentalcars still work with this 'company'...
Also, isn't there a regulator for this activity?

J'ai effectué une location chez Maggiore via DoYouItaly.com pour la période du 29/4/2019 au 6 mai 2019 pour un montant de 117.15€ et j'avais souscrit une assurance supplémentaire auprès de ZURICH assurance. J'ai reçu ma facture de Maggiore d'un montant de 165,92€, soit un surplus de 48,77 € par rapport au prix initial. Après réclamation, Maggiore m'annonce m'avoir facturé une assurance passager FACULTATIVE, non signée donc non demandée et refuse de me rembourser ce surplus. A savoir, j'ai contacté une assurance Europe Assistance. Nous assistons ici à une arnaque indiscutable, je compte porter plainte auprès de l'organisme gouvernemental pour litige.
I made a rental at Maggiore via DoYouItaly.com for the period from 29/4/2019 to 6 May 2019 for an amount of 117.15 € and I had taken out additional insurance with ZURICH insurance. I rented a medium size car in feb 2018 torino airport MR A TIZZANO .. all paid for 175 euros.. then to-my amazement 18 months later they helped them selves to another 150 euros . From my credit card.. no notice or explanation.. when my credit card investigated they said i owed the balance .. A YEAR AND A HALF LATER !!!! . How Can these car companies just help them selves to your money.. same happened this year with another car hire company.. they are scammers.. Disgraceful.. they should be taken to court.. We have been lied to. The worst experience of our life. This business is absolutely illegal. Please be aware and do not book with them. The initial cost of euro 200 escalated to euro 610.
Hidden costs and lie when booking. we were told it was a deposit when actually they took our money and been at airport you have no time to complain. There is no email service no telephone contact.
PLEASE PLEASE be aware and do not book with them or you will pay dear consequences.

Absolutely NEVER use this company
I wish there was a no star option as they didn't even give us a car even though we had booked in advance and paid a deposit to economybookings.com (who have also been appalling). Our flight was an hour late, we had to wait a while for our luggage, then when we got to the Maggiore desk there were so many angry people there that we didn't even manage to speak to anyone for an hour. It turned out they had run out of cars and so when we finally managed to talk to someone (they actually seemed to be hiding from their customers I'd say) she used our flight being late as an excuse not to give us a car, classing us as a 'no show' and telling us it was our own fault as there would have been a car if we'd got there on time. She even seemed to enjoy telling us that, even though it was late at night and we had two young children in tow. I still cannot believe how badly they treated us. In the end we had to rent a car from another company (B-Rent, who were much, much better) but it cost us more than twice as much as it should because it was an on-the-day booking.
