JG Wentworth will not help me with making a large principle payment to my loan. Any payment over 10k requires you to submit an e-mail to a department that basically says they won't help me. I can't talk to a live person. They won't connect me to a supervisor. They completely suck!

Pros: They will do everything to get your money
Cons: They literally had he worse customer service ever!. All I wanted was to get a home loan. I did everything that they wanted me to do and gave everything they have asked for. I even pay more than $2000 for other expenses, such as for home inspection and appraisal. But after these things, they dined my loan without justifying the reason. So if you don't want to get scammed and waste your time, avoid doing business with JG Wentworth.

I had a structured settlement where I was getting $731 per month until December 2026. I was kind of desperate and needed money right then. From the date at that time to 2026, I had $70,176 just floating around. So I figured; I have a structured settlement and I need cash now! So I called JG Wentworth.
As I was speaking to one of their reps, I told him what exactly I needed the money now for, and it added up to $35,500. Okay, great. But I don't want JUST $35,500, I want ALL of my money. I tried to explain that to him, but I got a weird answer, and he essentially dodged the question. So I just went along with it.
Long story short. I was ripped off $34,676. I've tried to contact them to find out what the heck happened to all that money, and I've been told "Oh, that's what your money is valued at from 2026 to 2018." WHAT? You mean to tell me that the value of a dollar is expected to cut in HALF by 2026? And what are the odds that the alleged amount that $70,176 is valued at is EXACTLY what the rep and I discussed my expenses added up to at the very beginning of this whole thing?
They intentionally gave me unclear answers to my questions, or at least, that's certainly what it feels like. The sad part is that everything was written in the contract. I tried to ask them why the amount was written as $35,500, and I got a vague, confusing answer.
It wasn't until the date of my court appearance that I was finally told what was happening by JG Wentworth's lawyer. He said that the value of $70,176 is expected to drop to around $68,000. Sounds about right. He said I would be getting $35,500, but I can't remember what he said about the other half, if he said anything about it at all. I had twenty minutes until I went before the judge, and I wondered whether or not I should just leave the building. But I was desperate for money. So I stayed. Every day I wish I had just left.
Overall, just don't do it.

They don't release funds without making you wait for it. Once you submit a complaint online, they will act then only. Poor.

They are big liers. They make false promises upfront that it is a piece of cake for them and then try to sell your loan to a different company simply trying to make profit out of it. But if the company isn’t interested then they keep on trying with other companies until they find someone purely for their own gains and not caring about your time and investment. And eventually if they can’t make anything out of you they just deny you like they did me just two days before closing. Shocking right? Beware of these people and save others from them like i am doing by sharing.

Not a fan at all. After not hearing from them on weeks on end, we got our closing estimate and were charged $653 for a lock extension. When I called Mark he blamed the underwriters, title company and slow government for the delays. Someone he didn't blame was us. However we still were the ones paying for the lock extension. We are back in the market looking for a new lender now.

Like many other reviews I have read. Only are aggressive when they need something from you, and are rude and degrading when your demanding! Tired of the run around stop pointing fingers and fess up to the truth! Referred my husband, with a $500 bonus. Recieved an email stating "Our new referral bonus $500 UP FRONT! UPON ASKING FOR THE REFERRAL PAYOUT WAS TOLD THE POLICY IS WHEN THEY ARE FUNDED! Read the fine print on the email:
This Friends and Family referral bonus offer is good for referrals made for 30 days from the sent date of this email. Referred person must not already be in J.G. Wentworth's database and must be receiving structured settlement payments. Prior to paying the $500 bonus the referred person must confirm that they are receiving available structured settlement payments by completing a conference call with a J.G. Wentworth representative and the applicable insurance company or providing sufficient documentation showing that there structured settlement payments are available for sale. Maximum of 10 referrals per person. All purchase transactions are subject to our underwriting guidelines and approval is at our sole discretion. Call us for additional terms and conditions that apply. This offer is not available in Maryland, is void where prohibited and all transactions are subject to federal, state, and local laws. Offer is open only to U.S. citizens or permanent legal residents (green card) who have reached the age of majority in their respective domiciliary state as of the date they respond to this email. Correct me if I'm wrong but that is what it states. Yes understand it has to go thru underwriting, but don't state its up front! Tired of being bullied and degraded!

Deserves a big fat 0. Do you like to send the same information over and over? Do you enjoy having to constantly follow up with people? Do you like to be YELLED at when asking for an update? Do you enjoy working with people that can't take responsibility and are constantly pointing the finger? Are you planning on missing your closing date? Would you like to lose your mind after you tell them they were behind schedule and they literally yell at you and blame you for being behind schedule even though you send them everything they ask for within an hour of the request? Do you like it when people lie to and get angry with you because you asked for an update or explanation on something? Do you like asking a yes or no question and getting a 20 minute ambiguous answer that doesn't answer the yes no question and then trying to spend an additional 10 mins to get them to pick Yes or No? Do you love calling and emailing people everyday for the same issue? Do you frequently send personal information like SSN, Bank Accounts, Drivers License, etc. only to wonder if they got it and if it's still sitting in the email even though you have explicated asked several times for a quick "Got it" or "Thank you" confirming they have received it? Do you have a need to work with Incompetent "professionals", Liars, Rage Monsters, Morons, Arrogant Salesmen type people, and Lazy Finger-Pointers? If you answered yes to any of these questions, You will Love working with J.G. Wentworth because they literally did all of the previously mentioned things. This is my first bad review ever and they deserve it! They literally did not have a Single redeemable quality.

Bad Customer Service. I was given a checklist of items needing provided. Got a phone call EVERY single day about paying for the appraisal. The rep at one point texted me that he would close out my loan if I did not pay that day, and this on day 10 of the process. Ya you all can kiss my money goodbye cause I am not playing that game.

If I could give a 0 I would. I have never in my almost 40 years on this planet delt with any place so deceitful. I was given a pre approval at the beginning of March. With that I found a home to which it was sent through the underwriters and at that point given a conditional approval. I jumped through hoop after hoop. I did everything they asked me to do. In this time I paid $500 earnest money $250 Due Diligence $500 for a home appraisal (to JGWentworth) and $425 for a home inspection. All of this done under the information that I would be approved with everything they asked. They also wanted me to have a reserve in my checking account of $3000 after we closed to which I had to ask a family member for which to do had to have them fill out a form and get a bank letter stating that they have the funds to cover it. I had to get my deceased ex husbands death certificate and our divorce record. I gave bank statement 4 different times. I had to hunt down a person that worked at a realty company I used to rent a house from. The company was no longer in business but that didn’t matter. I still had to locate an employee that would have worked there at the time just to fill out a paper that stated I made all of my payments on time. I did this. The impossible but still managed to do it. I've done the impossible for this company. Every hoop they threw at me I did what was asked. All this with the idea that I would have my home loan. A day before closing they come to me and say that my Debt to Income didn’t meet what it needed to be because they were using income from 2 years earlier that was before I got my promotion. I have been in my current position a year and a half. A day before closing after I have spent 2600 dollars getting everything together to get in this house they deny me the loan. Don't trust this company. I'm begging you go some place else.

They beat the competition, but only after they low ball you as often as possible.
And you can expect to be ignored after you sign the paper work, until they need you for the court date.
As far as the cash advance and sign on bonus go, you might as well wait until you get the whole payment, they "guarantee" the latest date you will get the advance,
and when that date is past, suddenly noone will return your call or message you back in any way, and the sign on bonus will only come in check form after you get the advance, which takes weeks, not the days they swear by.
So if you are hard up and depending on that advance, don't bother with J.G Wentworth.
Definately get quotes from other companies in writing, and keep going back and forth, because thier first offer is way low, and then they will try to beat the competition by 50.00$ at a time, after about the third time they finally get the hint and jump up to "thier best possible offer" which is a grand or two higher than the original offer.

Experience started out good they were there and very competitive, but after the paperwork was signed things got a little shaky. I sent the proper paperwork but kept getting the run around when the check was supposed to come after it was approved. But, overall it was a good experience. And I will use you again.
