Disappointing is the word that springs to mind !!
For those who have used this company and had good things to say about them - you are lucky !
those who like me have never used this company or had a terrible experience with them please do share your comments.
I feel I need to share my story, I have never had to use an external building company for any outdoor work relating to my house before, therefore this was all new to me.
After looking online these guys were one of the companies that were in my list to call. First impressions ... amazing ! couldn't be more helpful and willing to come to give me a quote.
I was very excited about getting the harling done to the outside of my house as i had previously purchased my property around 3 years ago. I explained to the main man Jeff Davidson exactly what I was looking for when he came to look at my house and he seemed happy enough to go ahead. I explained to him that most of the houses around the area had all had the pebbledashing done and that I could not find the same company that carried out there work. I mentioned in conversation that this company had charged around £900 - 1000. I was unsure at the time if this was considered expensive or reasonable for this type of job to be done, bearing in mind my house is not a large house, but ex council with no gable ends. He immediately told me by looking at my house that he would not even think I would be £900 with the small amount of work to be done. He told me he would get back to me. I should have known at the beginning this company was not interested in a small fish like me and I had to constantly make the effort to call him to ask if he could come back with a price as it was getting to the stage I thought they had forgotten, however i was looking to get the the work done within a few months as I had visiters arriving from overseas and would have liked it looking nice and he knew I really wanted to know the costs so I could start planning. I eventually got a hold of Jeff on a few occasions and he assured me each time that this was no problem and yes they could do the job. He organised for one of his roughcasters by the name of "Deano" to come to visit me and also see the house. We discussed costs and I explained to him what Jeff had told me about it being in the region of £900 max and also if he was willing to paint my insets around my windows we came to the agreement that an extra £200 would cover this. He told me that he would be charging £1000 for the pebble dashing as apposed to £900 Jeff mentioned. I agreed with this and therefore we left it that the total would be £1200 (inc window painting) I provided the paint and he told me that he would be carrying out the work on the Thursday - Friday and be finished before the weekend finished. I was so pleased and recommended their professionalism to friends and work colleagues. I did explain to both Jeff who was leading and managing the work that i would be taking the 2 days off work as i like to be around when work is being carried out on my house, and should there be any problems or queries at least I'm there to clarify things. I did say a few times " you will definitely be there right " ... I hoped they did not take offense to me asking this again, but was only making sure as I did not want to take unnecessary time off if they did not come. I was assured.... therefore on the Wednesday after work, I left early and run around getting things prepared and also made sure I had the paint ready for his arrival next day. Deano even called to make sure I had the paint the day before. I still had this hindering thought in the back of my mind " is he going to turn up or not "..., purely as my experience with his visit prior was not promising. He kept swithering about things and even when he agreed on something, my thoughts were he did not seem keen to do it..... Why i do not know !! then when I showed him the house close by with the type of stones and colouring i would like he kept getting it wrong only 5 minutes after we had had the discussion where he thought I as going for a totally different look. I remember feeling a little concerned at the time as he wasn't really taking in what I was saying and I had to keep reminding him what I had wanted. Jeff told me he would come around on the day just to make sure he did take on board my request with the proper colour and stones. As once its done there is no going back !
Well... this is what upsets me and where I am totally in disbelief............ Deano was coming at around 1pm therefore I thought after washing all the outside ledges and prepping for him to do the painting, I would make bacon sandwiches and get some nice things in incase there were a few of them. i sat waiting and waiting and no one arrives. It would have been an hour just before his arrival I receive a txt msg from him telling me " Roughcaster here - sorry wont be able to make it, family emergency ! explain after maybe. also looking pushed for the rest of the week " !!!
Part of me felt Oh no I hope it isn't too serious ...
I then txt him back asking if he could call me when he could as I needed to know what was happening and no reply. I called Jeff (manager of the company) to let him know as he was also meant to be coming around at the same time as the work was being done. Jeff assured me he knew nothing of this, but as his RoughCaster they don't communicate with each other - REALLY ! This is someone that Jeff classed as usually reliable. Jeff told me he called and called him but he never picked up but he eventually txt him as i then got a text through that was very RUDE... He send a msg to me saying " i am up in court supporting someone" ..." is this now enough info for you for me not turning up !!!"
I was totally shocked with his rude approach, I had only met him once but yet he turned this around on me. I told him if this was the case why had he not told me this yesterday when he called to say he would be round at 1 ? I could then have made alternative arrangements, but this story did not ring true, I'm afraid. Firstly if you are called to go on trial in court as a witness you are given reasonable time to arrange this .. if not for work reasons then other things. But the nature of the court case he described (if true) was shocking enough to even lie about something like this. I mentioned this to my mum who was due to come to my house to let me away where she had to cancel her work also. The lengths this man seemed to go to with insensitiveness and lies just to get out of doing a job is hurtful and has cost me 2 days off work for no reason waiting around for someone who had no intention of turning up.
This company is so unprofessional and extremely unreliable... please think twice before giving them a job to do for you. First impressions dont always count, my experience with this company has been a nightmare trying to get through to a manager who in the first instance was falling over backwards to do the job for you to then disinterested. His response over and over again was .... its nothing to do with me.... I got you a Roughcaster, I did good !!!! I cant help it if the workers I use dont turn up. You need to deal with Deano direct. He maintains until this day they are a very reputable company and also very reliable. NOT the experience I had. Jeff also decides to tell me at the end that he cannot do the job at that price quoted as he needs to add VAT to this, therefore go with Deano !!! This is the man who tells me from day one that looking at the job he would not think it to be even priced at £900. Now regardless if he is a roughcaster himself or not, he has seen many a job done with pebbledashing, therefore he would have known the type of cost for 2 walls.
In hindsight I so wish I had called the other contractors, they may not have this ridiculous speel bumming up their business but one thing for sure is .... I have found out they are certainly reliable. They will be there or let you know in good time. I have spoken with other companies since I was let down terribly by JDC and they too are disgusted by the way this company has lied to try and wriggle out of doing a job. Honestly is the best policy. It appears they are not interested in doing small fry's like me with a small house and a minimal bank balance, but are looking for the bigger jobs. Discrimination does not come itself ! Jeff assures me this is not the case, but did he try and help me out further, rather than just passing the buck to Deano ? Reputation is everything and customers will come back to you especially with good reviews and RELIABILITY. I have now been left with just a "Sorry from Jeff" and hopefully you can find another Roughcaster ! Cheers
