Terrible experience, customer service super rude, they only send bill by letter and sending those by email is not an option even when it will down the cost and help the planet.
I been over charge, also I have “over paid” so is a total mess due I never have money on due and I have never overpay

I have experienced the very same problem and am living in a flat which is grossly over-heated in winter and killing in summer, with no way of turning down the heat. Ista is billing £500 for the summer quarter for heating and lighting a small new-build 2 bed flat. It's so bad that people are thinking even of installing air conditioning – just to really waste some more energy.
Is anyone aware of any UK competitors? I think I'll refer it to the Competition and Markets Authority.
Ista is now owned by a Chinese company, following clearance by the European Commission.
Update. The Competition and Markets Authority are aware and consider that the whole industry requires regulation. ISTA are not members of Heat Trust, which sets out a common standard for the quality and level of customer service. Says it all, really!

If I could give a 0 star, I would. Horrible company. Just collecting money. My renters pay a third of their entire bill just for Ista bills. But they charge me a fortune, too.

I have been leaving in my flat for over 7 months and out of no where (nothing in my contract about them) they send me a bill for 170 pounds for 5 months and expected for me to pay immediately so I did cause not much choice left... I found it super expensive just for heating. I don’t use heating at my property so it seems like I am paying ridiculous amount just to have a hot water as bill for water it self’s comes separately.
Help line useless... can’t even provide you with a proof of payment.....
And bills cones as they wish monthly every 2 months.... but they super fast chasing if you haven’t paid... even when bill never was send...

Horrendous and expensive. Will teach us a lesson when renting an apartment to look into the energy supplier before signing a contract.

Very bad energy supplier. My bills before them was around £70 per month it’s now up to £244. I went on holiday for two weeks and came back to find out I been charged for not using heating or hot water. They ignore any emails I send and hung up on me when I question the bill. This supplier is used by most housing association be warned.

ISTA are billing partner to our energy supplier and seem completely incapable of producing an accurate bill. In the 18 months we’ve lived in our home we haven’t had a correct bill, despite continued chasing. Bills are sent ad hoc, sometimes monthly, sometimes quarterly, sometimes every other month, despite the promise of monthly billing. They have also previously taken payment from our account without first sending us a bill.
ISTA works out far more expensive than any previous energy supplier and we have had several problems with our heating and hot water supply.
Staff are at best dismissive, at worst exceptionally rude. Every time I have had to query an incorrect bill the person I’ve spoken to has said that they’re not able to deal with it and someone will have to call me back. More often than not no one calls back. Similarly on the occasions I’ve asked to speak to a manager to resolve an issue, there has not been anyone available - every time I’ve made this request I’ve been told ‘they’ve just left’.
I would not recommend using this company to any body.
