Wow...really bad app and online banking...things don't work...too many different kinds of login hoops and passwords and security codes...and then again, things don't work...brutal experience.

Save yourself the trouble and never open accounts with HSBC! Just received a letter from HSBC Canada advising me that I had 30 days to move my accounts! No reasons, no explanation, just get lost, your accounts will be blocked in 30 days. HSBC had issues with the US authorities and for some now reason seem to be randomly blocking accounts with no explanation. They seem to be happy to keep mortgage but not my banking - strange and selective. To avoid having your accounts randomly closed for no good reason, I suggest you never open accounts at HSBC!

HSBC seems to be driven by automation at the cost of customer satisfaction. Many of the activities you can do online are clumsy and hard to understand,
So when you then try to get support (via chat / via email etc) the level of customer service knowledge and willingness to really solve you problem is just awful! You just get "copy and paste" style responses designed to meet efficiency targets and NOT to actually help the client address their issue. Its quite pathetic....
