A truly appalling service. Only interaction available with customer services is via web chat. Had to order manually more ink for one printer. It should be automatic. That order was mishandled and lost. No one cares. Total indifference and ineptitude. Avoid this waste of money, waste of time service.

No trust. Don’t go near them. Lie after lie from their call centre. I’ve paid every months for 3.5 years but have received no inks since early 2018. I’ve resorted to buying ink elsewhere. When you call, they promise to send ink that day but something weird happens whereby no inks arrive and checking the tracking number results in a “not resolved by DHL” message.
I’ve been hung up on twice this morning by their call centre simply for trying to cancel And obtain a refund. Like so many businesses, they are governed by customer unfriendly policies.
I’m going for a sit down!

If I could give this service 0 stars I would. I signed up, and then changed my mind and cancelled within minutes. I realised that I was in danger of being charged, even though I had no intention of using their ink, and so contacted their chat line who confirmed that I would not get any charges, even if I used more pages (of my own ink) than what I had briefly signed up for. I printed this confirmation that I wouldn't be charged, I purchased my own ink, and then lo and behold a week later instant ink arrived. I didn't open it. A few weeks later as feared HP took a payment. I contacted their chat line, who ignored repeatedly the fact that I had it in writing that I wouldn't be charged, and told me that I had bought a printer that was cheap because it was instant ink ready, and that even though I hadn't used any of their service ink, and had immediately cancelled, that I must still pay. I was promised a call back, which never happened. I don't know how they are getting away with this.

Avoid HP Instant Ink at all costs. Nothing about this works. My experiences echo all the other reviews here. In addition I find that every time I or anyone else in my family wants to print, the printer has some bureaucratic issue it needs resolving with the account, which requires a bewildering sequence of buttons to be pressed in the right way, which makes the printer spew out endless pages of complex instructions... thereby using up the ink cartridges and all available paper. As a family we've only managed to use it about 5 times and my heart sinks every time my daughter says she wants to print her homework out because that means I have to sit next to the printer trying to solve the Enigma code for five hours just so she can print out a single page of homework. It's awful. It's a small enclave of hell in a modest semi-detached house in suburbia. It's sold as a way to make life easier but it is without any doubt a sadistic attempt to make printing impossible.

Being a teacher, I do a lot of printing for my class, mainly in colour. I enrolled with instant ink back in 2015, when I was a student teacher and have continued and will continue.
Printing around 1000 pages a month, with a montly cost of around £20 and I have never been left without ink. Most of my printouts are colour and the 3 colour cartridges are the most expensive.
For people who mainly just print a few pages in black, instant ink my not be worth it - but for me, I cannot fault them at all.

One of the Biggest Online Scams of the 21st Century!
We canceled out of being enrolled in the Instant Ink program and we had full cartridges of ink that we could no longer use because it was locked into the enrolment.
We paid every month which amounted to nearly £50 over two years and received one Cyan replacement cartridge because we just didn't use our printer that much.
When we canceled the plan, we were no longer able to use the cartridges. Now, this causes several problems that no one at HP with at least two brain cells have figured out so far.
1. They're scamming their customers.
2. They don't give a hoot about the environmental impact this is potentially having. They really, really don't.
So, the first is pretty clear and obvious, they don't care about their customers and therefore are quite happy to scam the heck out of them.
Secondly, they don't give a rat about the environment. I believe that for two reasons.
1. What happens to these full cartridges when you can't use them because you opted out of the Instant Ink program?
Well, most folks are just going to put them in the bin! I seriously doubt that anyone is going to give a hoot about sending them back after being told they can't use the ink they rightfully paid for.
2. When HP sent us a single Cyan Ink replacement cartridge, it came in a box the size of a wheely bin! So big that the postman had to take it back to the depot.
So, off I go in my car to go and fetch it. No thoughts, once again, on the negative environmental effects this has from HP.
They are well aware of these scenarios, but we have to keep in mind folks, this is a company run by people with no more than a few brain cells.
What we have here is a company that has perfected the art of providing garbage products along with a nice helping of unreliable scammy services, with a pinch of decaying customer service. Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Stay away from instant ink, you have been warned !!!!!
Having signed up to the 3. 99 plan to start with, we found that we weren't using as much as we first thought. There in started our problems.
1.the first time the ink ran out, and we got our first delivery, but we had only printed around 10 pages in months!!! Thought maybe the they had been faulty, not having the right amount of ink in, looking back now I highly suspect that they were returned cartridges from some other poor mug that had cancelled
2. After afew more months still not printing as much as we were paying for, decided to reduce our subscription to the 1.99 plan, the change took a month to change over, then the following month hp had charged us the 3.99 again despite printing no pages in that 2 mths. Email to complain about being over charged, no reply or refund so I decided to cancel all together.
3. Cancelling is a knightmare!!! The information and links you need are hidden deep on the website, almost impossible to find and again takes about a month to kick in.
4. The very expensive cartridges you have spent months paying for, they want you to send back!! And once the cancellation does kick in they stop working so you can't use the ink in them. Sorry hp I have bought and paid for them and the ink at an inflated rate compared to just buying a cartridge at the shop.. Jog on.
Just save your self the hassle and walk to the shop as and when you need ink...

I inherited my late father's printer and did not know that his printer was enrolled in Instant Ink. When the ink ran low, I replaced the ink cartridges with original HP ink and got an error message to notify Instant Ink. They informed me of an unpaid subscription balance. I paid it off and was told that I could continue printing. Somehow they disabled all my HP printers ( I have 3) and the other two printers were never enrolled in Instant Ink. I suspect that they blocked everything via the internet by updating firmware and or drivers. I guess you could call me an unwitting victim. Still can't print, but I bought a new Brother printer and will no doubt have to scrap my 3 HP printers. Hey, they just ripped off a veteran and they don't give a doody.

I only wish that Trustpilot had a facility to respond to each/any review - because the 5* reviews here have just got to be "fake news"!
The HP instant ink 'service' is a scam. I wish that I could therefore question the apparently good reviews they get, because it doesn't match my experience!

When I saw that HP had a ink program my first thought was... yeah right... But I am so impressed with the value and how true it is that I will never run out of ink! The savings on buying ink is just as amazing! I don't worry about running out of color ink no matter how many pictures I print! I don't have to come up with 80 dollars to buy replacement ink for it to be gone in a few days. No matter how little or how much you print you can adjust your plan as needed. Even if you go over your plan and have to pay a little extra it's worth it! Price out going to have your prints made... gas, ware and tare on your car, your time ect... I HIGHLY recommend HP Instant Ink! Thank you HP! One less stress for me!

As a university student I thought it was a good idea to enrol on this plan as I do a lot of printing frequently and live a distance away from the university I attend. However, after having a suspicion that I was being charged for pages I wasn’t printing I decided to take note of any pages I was printing, obviously counting 2 pages for a double sided print. Anyway, after printing 7 pages HP had calculated 12! After printinting 18 they had calculated 23! I contacted them but they were completely useless and basically talked to me like I was unable to count so I cancelled my subscription. They have now fabricated a final bill of almost £10 for nothing...
Honestly, it may be a little inconvenient to but your own ink at times, but it will be a lot less hassle than dealing with these thieving conmen.

Biggest scam I have ever experienced HP should be ashamed to be offering the HP Instant Ink service, gave it a try for three months, printed around 40 pages and was charged over £60 so decided to cancel but on cancellation, all the cartridges stop working. RIP OFF beware

My first review on here, I have felt driven to write one as my experience seems vastly different to most of those below, which nearly stopped me subscribing.
A good number of the reviews talk about the cartridges not working after cancellation and that this is either theft, robbery or a scam by HP. I would kindly advise those that have said this to read what you are subscribing to. You are NOT buying an ink cartridge delivered monthly or otherwise. You are buying the SERVICE of being able to print a set number of pages per month, you do not own the cartridges. If you cancel then you lose that service, it seems fair enough to me. If I cancel Netflix I wouldn't expect to be able to finish all the box sets I have started.
Having recently subscribed it all seems to have gone pretty smoothly, and two live chats with HP concerning the start of the free trial have resolved any issues I had.
Early days but so far so good.

You misled me and misold me a “2 years of free ink” printer. When I bought it you said it was 2 years of free ink. It was about £100 more than it’s equivalent but I thought it was worth it for 2 years free ink. Now you tell me it’s £79-84 credit on my account for ink. THAT IS NOT THE SAME THING AT ALL. That is false advertising.

please avoid Instant ink Service...especially if you dont use your printer often, they will rob you.

I think most people are calling it right, this is a scam and I dare say illegal. The ink levels are estimated and I find it strange how all the cartridges run out within a couple of weeks of one another, I have never seen this before. Also the new generation of printers are nowhere close to the printers they replaced.

Con. I joined instant ink. Was paying a monthly charge. They initially sent some replacement inks. As I was still using the inks that came with the printer I thought I would cancel. Turns out the inks stop working and you have to return them. I will take my custom else where.

Appalling service, have not received ink for nearly 2 years, despite paying their monthly charge. Have contacted them several times via various media, with no successful outcome (they ignore email enquiries, despite giving you a case number). Fortunately my debit card changed and their monthly payment was blocked so they suspended the service, I WILL NOT RENEW.
Avoid this excuse for a service like a plague, does not deserve even the 1 star I have given them.

So I absolutely feel like I’ve been reexplaining myself to a
Company that absolutely will not listen for the last year!! Every time my ink runs out I have to chase for more to be sent out. They have said so far it’s my fault for the printer not being left on which is is!! And that inks must be going missing which they are not!! It took me an hour on chat this time to get the case escalated because the operator didn’t seem to be able to action this. Finally he did and I had an e mail I couldn’t reply to to say the case was being closed because they couldn’t contact me!! When I reinstated a chat and finally got a call back I was told they automatically close the cases if they can’t contact the customer! Well what can I say they never even tried what a quiet department that must be. Shame on you HP

What an absolute scam Instant Ink is. I bought the printer for occasional printing so signed up to the £1.99 a month plan. I have only ever received 1 extra set of cartridges which are still un-opened. I have paid £42 over the 21 months I have had the plan. And now I’ve come to cancel it, I am told the cartridges I have left will no longer work in the printer! So I have to buy additional, regular cartridges! What a waste of money, plastic and ink! The unopened cartridges I have will now be absolutely useless to me and will be sent to landfill.
They have you by the balls! Once you’re in, you’re never getting out! Unless you want to pay more money to buy regular cartridges. Absolutely ridiculous.

Avoid this misleading offers. You pay triple price regardless promo and offers, overcharged for 250 pages equivalent to 1000.
spoken to customer services not helpful they try to keep in contract.
They claim to be Environment friendly they are not. Received email the said they sent cartridges could be couple extras in the box. I was looking forward to arrive. Large box was sent and postmen couldn't put through letter box, so I have to drive to collect from local distribution centre. I was shocked it was only one cartridge the large box. After I have cancelled subscription it doesn't work.I have purchased from Amazon original on line £21.00 for colour and black.
Customer services they try you to sell more rather putting misleading info right they did not respond to my complain

Good concept on not having to run out and buy ink, but I find that I pay more than I would if I did replace my own cartridges. I do a lot of printing, but I guess not enough to justify $12/month when I don't need monthly replacements. It's cheaper to go out and buy a $14 b/w cartridge every 2-3 months. If you by ink monthly, this would probably work for you. Just not for me.

Appallling service. They didn't send me a cartidge. I was paying high monthly subscription and not using much ink anyway.
Cancelled service ordered new cartidge on Amazon and now that wont work because It transpires i have to change the colour ones as well.
Caused me huge inconvenience. Their call centres did not advise me of this situation, i.e the colour cartidges would stop working.
HP Instant Ink is a very expensive option and i would advise to avoid like the plague.

I subscribed to the InstantInk service last year. I loved using my HP DESKJET 3635 but was always a bit reluctant to use it because of the cost of replacing the ink cartridges. I wasn't sure how much ink my prints were costing me using and it was pretty painful paying €25 or so for such a tiny consumable every few months.
I subscribed to the €2.99 monthly offer which gives me 50 A4s, regardless of ink coverage, whether colour of black and white, or even on photo paper and it's been a perfect service. The cartridges (larger than shop bought ones) arrived and only had to be replaced once so far. (The replacement cartridge arrived by post before the printer was out of ink).
This is a great service and the online software, and HP utility software is excellent. Personally, I can't think of how this service can be improved. It's a perfect fit. Ink as a service is the way to go.
