Terrible customer service. While replacing our panel, a hole was punched through our living room wall. The person sent out to fix it just shoved the broken pieces back in. No spackle. No paint. They were supposed to send another person out to properly fix it. I waiting home all day and they never showed up. Other solar companies still give you the rebate money and their monthly bill is a lot less than Horizon. If we weren't stuck in a contract, I'd cancel the whole thing. Very shady company with poor work ethics.

I thought I made a good decision when purchasing through Horizon Solar. The sales process went well, but the problems started when it was time to install. The scheduling was horrific - I had taken the day off to ensure that there would be no issues with access to the attic and backyard. The appointment was set for 7-9AM. I waited until 11:00AM and then decided to call the main office. I was told they would not be making it that day and that the installation would be rescheduled for later that week. I waited 3 days and no follow up call. I once again called the office and was told a scheduling person would contact me that day. 4 more days passed when I was finally called back. I was considering canceling the contract, but mistakenly decided to move ahead. I took the newly scheduled day off and the crew arrived on time. Unfortunately, the crew was very unprofessional. They were smoking on my property, so I asked them to stop. They did, or so I had hoped. I went inside and could smell smoke again two hours later. I went outside and they were smoking! I was frustrated but just wanted the job finished and them off my roof and off my property. They left without even letting me know. I found several larger broken tile pieces on the ground, cigarette butts, and trash from a fastfood restaurant in my backyard and street. I was concerned about the broken tiles, but thought I'd be cautious and optimistic. My mistake! When the first rain came, I saw the ceiling discolor from water coming in through the roof. I immediately called Horizon to complain. I was told that the roofing team would be contacting me to schedule a time to come out. Two days later I received a call and they arrived that afternoon. I was told the leak was not caused by the installation of the solar panels and nothing would be done. I immediately called the main office and tried to speak with someone high enough to get this fixed. All I was allowed to do was leave a voice mail message for a Shawn Anderson. I called and left 4 separate messages over the next 2 days. I never received a return call. I decided to call a roofing company to get an estimate of the damages and repair. They came out and told me that the leak was definitely caused by the very bad work of installation. They showed me pictures they took of numerous broken tiles STILL ON THE ROOF UNDER THE PANELS! Their estimate for repairing the damage was $4300. I am seeking counsel to get this resolved. I have yet to hear back from Horizon. I do NOT recommend this company!

I have had panels on my roof since October 2016 - but have not been hooked up so they're basically a roof decoration. I was never told that it would take over 8 months to get through this process. In fact we started last August - but the follow up has been ridiculous - and at each step that we are told "we just have to do this" and we think we will be done it turns out there is more waiting, more work, more inspections. Just today I received a note from Horizon telling me I was on step 5. Step 5! After 8 months! I was told that when they come over tomorrow it was to turn us over to solar - not for yet another inspection that would require more waiting while the utility decides when they can get to us - which at this rate will be after summer - once we've paid our highest bills of the year. We have been nothing but frustrated throughout this process. I've given up on the entire thing- and if I could, I'd be sorely tempted to just take the panels off my roof. Ridiculous and unacceptable.

When the initial Horizon Solar Power surveyor showed up two hours after the approved four hour window, I should have hired a different company. Not only did they waste this entire work day for me, they wasted several more over the course of this project.
The biggest issue was coming home one day to find Horizon's technician, Stefan, had scattered electrical parts down our driveway and completed wiring by running it outside of our main electrical panel, so the panel door wouldn't even close (I have pictures!). I immediately called Horizon Solar Power and was connected to Rebecca Fox. I explained the problem and reminded her we were told an inspector would be coming the following morning. While on the phone she explained the crew is always in the office by 5 - 5:30am and she assured me the photos and necessary information would be passed along to the team so they would be prepared to fix the problem before the inspector arrived.
The next morning, Jose arrived at 9:30am to meet with the inspector, apply a wiring diagram to the outside of the electrical panel and do a final check on the panels. He had not been informed about the wiring issue. I called Rebecca to ask what happened and she asked to speak with Jose. I could hear her emphatically tell Jose that HE needed to fix this problem and that HE needed to figure it out. I could also tell Jose looked concerned about having to deal with the power main. I asked to speak with Rebecca again. Jose told Rebecca the customer would like to speak with you again and handed me the phone. As I was putting it up to my hear, I could hear her hang up. We were not accidentally disconnected, I could hear hanging up her phone. I then called Colin Shipley with Greenspire (overseeing our solar installation) to let him know he needed to get an electrician to the job site or we weren't going to pass the inspection.
Shortly after calling Colin, I heard from JP who works with Horizon. I explained the situation to him and he informed me he's Jose's direct supervisor and he would have never spoken to Jose the way I heard Rebecca speaking to him nor ask him to touch anything other than a simple circuit breaker on the panel. He informed me fixing that problem is not part of Jose's training and he should have never been asked to do something so dangerous without first receiving the proper training. To correct the situation, JP sent Kenny, a senior electrician to fix it. Kenny had to nearly undo everything that was done by the Stefan.
Sadly, despite all of the work to correct the problem, we did not pass the inspection because someone else in the Horizon Solar Power office printed the wrong site plan (an older plan that was never approved). This is not the first time Horizon Solar showed up with the wrong plan. On the initial day of installation, the crew also had the wrong plan and I had to print the correct one. Thankfully I was home to catch this error. There was a lot of handholding and babysitting for this project. That's why I missed so much time from work.
As is, with the amount of miscommunication from the Horizon Solar Power corporate office that I've experienced, I would never recommend this company to anyone. I truly hope management gets improved!
Lastly, I was told to expect the LADBS inspector in the morning. The inspector showed on his paperwork he was scheduled between 12-2pm (so I was waiting early for nothing) AND he was only scheduled to check an electrical panel degrade. Nobody had submitted a request to check the solar. Thankfully, the inspector added the check to his paperwork as a favor, after pleading with him to help me out because Horizon dropped the ball. Yet one more of many examples, showing the disfunction of the Horizon Solar Power management office.

Horizon Solar has made going solar easy. From the very first moment I met the sales rep, he was knowledgable, informative, and made the process easy. The office staff even handled the association authorization. The installation crew was courteous and very professional. I asked a lot of questions and they all seemed happy to answer my concerns and showed me the equipment before it went up. The company's follow up on the equipment and how solar is working for us has been great. The best part is that it has saved me big money!

Horizon Solar Power employs special "teams" to do the initial survey, design work, the final design, and subsequently the installation work. As a practicing engineer with over 50 years of experience, I was impressed with the quality of workmanship that each of Horizon's teams exhibited when they built our 24 panel solar system.
One of these teams, notably the installation team, did an exceptionally good job; this 5 person team worked like a well-oiled machine all day long, with each person coordinating closely with their counterparts. The result was a high quality product that was "done right".
If you are considering a purchase or a lease of a solar panel system, I encourage you to obtain an estimate from these guys, before you sign on with any other company. The person to call is Chad, their lead sales rep, at 717.829.4489

Horizon was all too willing to start my solar installation. Once done, I had to complete the SDG&E and county approval myself. Three weeks after installation I still couldn't use my system because I was told by Horizon that they were waiting for SDG&E to inspect my system. I took matters into my own hands after Horizon would have waited for who knows how long and personally coordinated with SDG&E and county to get my system on the grid. A simple case of moving the paperwork along that Horizon could have easily done. There are SOOOOO many Solar Power installation companies out there - don't use this one.

Overall Horizon really tried to complete my solar project but it took them 15 months to complete the install and get my power turned on. In my opinion I saw the issue in coordination between the superintendent and the electrical contractor. Had the superintendent known what the electrician was doing at my house (changing plans) then the entire 12 month delay could've been avoided. The office staff worked diligently at keeping me up to date, but the lag was in the field when the superintendent allowed the electrician to alter the plan, thus causing SCE to send the job back into planning. This happened 3 times and the completion date kept getting extended further and further out.

We have been waiting since June for these people to install our system. As of today 9/12/16 we are still waiting. Below is a copy of an email sent to them today.
It's been a couple weeks at least since I've last heard from you regarding our solar installation. At this point I am totally fed up with your company, so here's what's going to happen.
You have 2 weeks to start the installation. I don't want phone calls, emails, apologies, or excuses. I want action. If there's no movement by the end of normal business hours September 26th, we will cancel the installation in its entirety and contact the Better Business Bureau. Should you decide to take any action against us be advised we will fight any and all sanctions.
Your company and its lack of communication for customers is at best disappointing.

Cost savings was not as much as anticipated. I did not realize SoCal Edison was going to charge me $10 per month for service fees even though I am sending them power back.

Horizon has an illogical series of installation events that resulted in our home being without electricity from 8:00 AM until 6:30 PM the day that the additional circuit breaker box was installed. We researched the process and found out (from our electric company) that Horizon is the only company that doesn't install the equipment first and THEN call the electric company and inspector to come and sign off on the box installation. This way the customer is only without power for approximately an guy while they hook up the wiring. Additionally, due to this installation process, Horizon's scheduling is lengthy and we are still without solar access as of September from an installation of the panels in July.

Great system. I just need to plan to put in a backup battery system to keep a few appliances going during a Grid Shutdown. Everything is working just as planned. Kwh is as designed. I just need to keep my consumption below the max so I don't have to pay the Power Company full rate for the make-up.

Overall I am very pleased with the way the solar buying and install process has gone. Everyone, including the roofers/installers, have been friendly and on time with their promises. Emails are always answered quickly and I get phone calls notifying me of work to be completed soon such as the site survey and installation. The system is not turned on yet, we are waiting for So Cal Edison to upgrade the panel and finalize the system but all my interactions with Horizon have been positive

I have had too may issues to list and not enough time in a day to list them all. To briefly summarize, their project management and follow through skills are well below par. The subcontractors they hired also helped to delay / complicate this process. My paper work was approved and signed on April 17th and to date 9/12 I still do not have my solar operating.
