I hired a mercedes vito from hertz on 4th july 2019 for one day.
the van was delivered to my home address. i drove to manchester,
used the van as intended and the van was collected from the manchester address as planned.the vehical was inspected at delivery and collection.A few issues were noted down on an appraisal form on delivery which i have supplied them a copy of. no issues were raised on collection. I had filled the fuel tank before collection, so i know it was full to the brim. i could not get any more fuel in.
Approximately 6 weeks later i recieved a credit card bill with charges on it of £600 for damages to the vehical
and £70.37p fuel charge for returning vehical with empty fuel tank.
on disputing this, they supplied a photo showing a fuel guage reading empty.
The way this works is as follows.
When the ignition is not switched on the fuel guage reads empty, as expected.
Turn the ignition on and the fuel guage indicator arm moves to full and then returns to empty. It is only when the engine is started that the fuel guage gives a true reading.
Please take a photo with the engine running and the range displayed on the instrument panel, before returning vehical.
This money was taken illegaly, as i was not given the opportunity to dispute this.
The money has been claimed back by my credit card company, but hertz are still trying to claim off me. The case continues.

Wow. This is really a bad company! We said that we wanted to refuel on our own, but the Hertz-person added an fuel-charge of 225 GBP and stole that from our card, even tough we fueld up the car , AND told Hertz that that was the plan all along. I am shocked! I have rented many cars in my life- but never experienced such a unprofessional firm as Hertz!

A huge belated thank you to the Hertz team (a lady and a man) at Newcastle Airport who went out of their way to help me get my 91 year old mum back to Southampton in the safety comfort of a C Class Mercedes Benz on 27August this year after our flight was cancelled at the last minute. The duty staff were caring, helpful and professional and helped us through what could have turned into a crisis. Thanks guys for sorting a prestige automatic vehicle at such short notice and for going the extra mile to help us out. Very competitive price too, so it's Herz all the way for me now if I ever need a hire car. Fantastic service!

We rented a car from Glasgow & rtnd it in Edinburgh. When returning it we were charged £145.00 for scratches on wheel base. We have pictures that are time and date stamped that we took prior to driving the car that proves those scratches were already on vehicle at time of pickup. We have contacted Hertz 4 times since Case Ref #07284751 and only get their automated response that they will get back to us - but not a word! We DID NOT cause any damage to vehicle and want our money back!!!! Also we returned it 41 hours early and received no credit on that either. WE WANT ACTION Hertz!!!

Booked a car online for a one way hire. When I picked car up following day the reservation has same destination as pick up. (Good job i noticed I thought). Went back to desk to inform of same, who then advised they did not have a branch where I wanted to drop car off despite there being an option to select that on website. Would not refund hire, as within 24 hrs it goes down as a 'no show'. This was my first time using hertz, my work have a hire agreement with them as well. I will never use again and be feeding back to my work to use different rental company,

I booked and paid for a car to be picked up at zadar airport due to a thunderstorm I was diverted to split and then returned to zadar 3 hours later to be met with a sign saying that if you are more than 59 minutes late you will lose your car and I did, this is at best sharp practice at worst you tell me , will I ever rent a hertz car again, no will they care, judging by other reviews no, well not until everyone gets the message

Deserved -stars,booked via umbrella company that was my mistake paid 487 GBP for 8 days rental after I broke down on my way to Dover then Calais France ,so only option was renting a car to catch my ferry after my breakdown insurance wrongly booked starting date so not I was not covered.
Before and during booking I was on the phone with rude lady with nice American accents but then I realised I needed to speak to umbrella company.
The agent confirmed to me that MAN Airport takes debit card and if any issue to ring back. Paid the fund plus insurance and went to collect at Man Airport 11PM Very cold with 4 kids,Agent started asking if I really wanted 8 seaters 3 times I said yes, he went in and out for 30 minutes only to be told that I failed a credit check and I will not get the vehicle to contact experien for reason.I showed him I have experien account in my mobile it can't be,he insisted that in his computer it shows customer not found so he is initiating the refund and I should receive within next 5 working days.
I offered him another card he said no it has to be same card I booked to run credit check and he does not know the reason why he can not see me in his database.
Today is 10 days back from holidays no refund ,contacted them office closed contacted umbrella company only to be told maybe I did not have enough money to send them proof. I had enough money with 6 times the amount they required ,I sent them bank statement now they are looking into this ,agent confirmed I spoke to them regarding debit card prior booking but does not know the reason why I was not given so it might take 20 days to establish if I will get a compensation not a refund. I told her I need full refund not a compensation.
I will take this to my Bank to claim chargeback first this is not one of the TC that if you fail credit check no refund will be given .
I give them 14 days to resolve first .I have high score on my experien and my name is on electoral with no bad credit I can see the search they done appears in my credit search the same day so I need to know why they did not give me the car ended up losing 4 nights of hotel booking plus missing ferry which I am now claiming through travelling insurance .

I rented a van and was relatively happy with the service, until I had to extend my rental for two days. Hertz decided to charge me for 3. They also told me, over the phone when I extended, that the rate would be the same. The call centre assistant even did a little celebratory cheer on discovering that the rate would be the same. Either she lied or was totally wrong. Turns out Hertz charged me around 4 times the amount for the extended days.
On returning the van to Hertz's lot at Manchester Airport, I was dismayed to find their returns section to be incredibly cramped. Only one bay was available and, unfortunately turned out to be slightly too small and I ended up scratching the side of the van on another car. I'm happy to admit when something is my fault and would be happy to pay repair costs for which I am liable. Unfortunately Hertz disagrees, and charged me for repairs to fictional damages well beyond those that occurred. On top of that, I was treated disgracefully by the staff. They wouldn't let me return the van without removing it from the scratched car, needed to be persuaded for 10 minutes to actually help, then suggested that I undertake a course of action that would have ripped off at least one vehicle's bumper. Doing things my way, I managed to free the vehicles with no further damage but, during the ensuing inspection, the attendant left me alone with no update for another 30 minutes. (This is all well after giving him back the keys.) They then put the damage down as dents (when there were no dents) without telling me, and got me to sign a document that was presented as the lease return without telling me it was the full damage assessment (that I would like to have read). To top it all off, several of the other attendants made jokes at my expense while I was waiting, and I was charged a late fee, incurred because of the attendant's slow behaviour.
TLDR: Never use Hertz. They are a terrible company, apparently staffed by terrible people, that will, it seems, be happy to attempt to steal your money by lying to you.

Worst car hire facility ever. Car in poor condition when picked up, damage reporting IT system not working after assurances of current damages being no problem and already on the system, took the car
On return damage system not working again, assured that everything was OK I asked the hertz team to sign acceptance and confirmation that car was OK. Was told system down but no problem.
On return home received an email stating a charge of over £400 would be made for damaged windscreen (chip) not seen by myself or on receipt by hertz.

We are organizing a group LAWSUIT against Hertz Manchester. We have 8 people already!
Please send Email: doronovick-gmail.com
Please add pics and describe what happened!
It seems we were not the only ones that they falsely charge for damages that we didn’t do after returning the car!
Please forward my email to other groups of people if you know others that have had the same experiences!

Bad doesn’t seem to be an adequate description for this company. In comparison to its competitors, hertz has poor policies and terrible service.
Recent trip to Milan was met with being declined the car we paid for and reserved (paid extra to have the exact model) because the main driver didn’t have TWO credit cards- who, with real wealth has credit cards!???? I operate with real money, not cyber cash that I pay interest on!!
The rude, sarcastic and obnoxious Frederita on desk went over the terms again with us after we said that was VERY ambiguous, and agreed it wasn’t clear we would need two credit cards.
A prestige car was booked by me for my husband as a special treat so I was disappointed. We agreed we would see what the neighbouring car hire firms had for us, whilst she held the car she suggested we could have instead ( this was a downgrade from a Jaguar e pace, to a jeep renegade) and we were expected to PAY THE SAME!!!!!
We investigated with the other firms only to decide the best option was the jeep at the pre paid cost.
We went back and she told us she JUST GAVE THE CAR AWAY... and we could have a NISSAN!
When we complained, she was super sassy and sarcastic telling me she would change her ‘career’ after I left.
Waited 5 days for the refund.
Would never use this car hire firm again.
Went to a different rental firm, paid more and took away a BMW from sixt- service was 2nd to none! Couldn’t believe the difference in standards!!! Bravo Sixt!!! Shame on you hertz

Rented a car from Hertz in France - on our return I rang to say we were stuck in a major traffic jam. We were 30 minutes late and were charged another day's hire plus insurance - so 3 days and 30 minutes turned into 4 days and cost £400 - outrageously expensve! Never using this company again. Surely a late return fee in the circumstances would have sufficed.

First of all I was given the wrong persons rental agreement. This was a GDPR breach as it had personal information of the other driver.
I noticed the problem as I was about to leave the car park (the rental date was wrong.) Having loaded up the car, fitted child seats etc. I was then required to go back to the terminal to get a new agreement, unpack the car, move the family into a different car.
I received completely generic, pro forma response to my complaint, utterly devoid of any real content.
All a very, very long way from the "Gold" service I signed up for.

I recently used Rentalcars.com to book a car with Hertz at Newcastle Airport. When I arrived to collect the car I realized that I had neglected to update my current address on my drivers licence. I have only recently moved house and it was an unfortunate oversight on my part. I was completely candid with the gentleman at the Hertz desk when I explained what had happened but he offered no assistance what so ever. He refused point blank to give me the car that I had already paid for and offered no alternatives or any kind of support. I had an extremely busy couple of days of travelling ahead of me and none of it would have been possible without a car. I pleaded with the gentleman at the desk and even offered to leave a deposit but he did absolutely nothing to help. I needed a car urgently so I walked over to the Avis car desk and asked them if they could help and they were more than happy to give me a car.
I asked the gentleman at the Hertz desk about getting my money back and he said I had to contact Rentalcars.com but I was in no position to do that right there and then. I had to wait until I returned 2 days later before I was able to contact them and they refused to refund my money. I was absolutely gobsmacked by the lack of understanding or empathy from Hertz & Rentalcars.com. They have taken my money and provided me with no service so I would advise anyone looking to hire a car to look elsewhere.
Thank goodness Avis car hire have the ability to use their common sense and not treat customer like criminals for simple mistakes.
That will definitely be the last time I ever use Hertz.

Please do not use Hertz Car Rental especially when they mislead and mis-sell insurance the customer has already taken out. This company completely disregards the customers position. Agents are mis-selling & mis-leading customers and ignoring what customers are showing them. Customer service are no better, completely biased views and only consider the Hertz position even when there is overwhelming proof that i already have the relevant insurance in place.

I rented a car from Hertz, Shannon Airport, Co Clare, Ireland. On return I was charged €791 for a 2-3cm minor scratch on a rear door, which I maintain was on the car at time of hire. (Torrential rain when I picked the car up and although I checked, this scratch would have been impossible to see). Cars are old, high mileage (mine was 2 years old with 64000 on the clock) and scruffy - stained seats etc. Check meticulously for damage, log it and take photographs. Do not trust their photos. I will definitely never use them again and recommend anyone who reads this doesn’t either. I have also taken them off the Car hire roster for the multinational company I work for - we don’t deal with people who operate like this. Would give zero stars if I could.

Avoid, Customer Services is non-existent. They charge you for customer service line.
Prepare to wait a minimum of 7 days of email reply.
Basically once they've got your money they really don't want to deal with you. You've been warned

Shame I had to give one star just to comment; I would not have given any.
Recently hired a car for a funeral and on my return was informed that the passenger Tyre had damage. Hertz were good enough to send me photos, which clearly show all around damage to their cheap alloy wheels. So when I dispute the Hertz claim they Bill my card anyway; try and reply to the email-its a No Reply.
Such a scam; do not use this company.
PS; Hertz, can I have the old Tyre, as I did pay for it!

I am so shocked that such a big company treat their customers with such disregard and use what seems to be the same line every time "you signed so you pay" Trouble is you sign what you believe is correct and then they change it. I am going with them again shortly as the only way I think this will ever get resolved is if you film them and report to someone, as Hertz don't care, but I will make it my mission to make this company aware of their staff underhand bullying tactics. I won't get caught out though with charges as, as soon as I have paid I am going to call my credit card company and tell them to cancel the payment. That way I might get a response.

I rented a van (BL19WRN) on 7th September 2019 via their new 24/7 service. NEVER AGAIN!
The van had plenty of fuel and I drove just 30 miles in total. The tank was more than half full when I returned it but stupidly I didn't take a photo of the gauge.
4 weeks later (!!!) I get emails from Hertz telling me they have 'fined' me £50 for not topping the van up with the fuel card they provide. The van did not need topping up when I parked it!!! Why would I not have topped it up at no cost to me when I parked it??? There was a fuel station right next to where I dropped it back! Why would it take 4 weeks to notice if I'd left the fuel level too low?
It may be convenient but nigh-on doubling the rental like this means I will never use Hertz 24/7 again. AVOID!

Lied about the price. When I got there, charged more. Said I'd get a refund. I didn't.
No damage to the car and they asked me to sign for it. After I left they added damages to my file that didn't exist then claimed I signed to say them damages were there. Didn't return the holding deposit. Honestly, just use another company

Atrocious - avoid at all costs!!
We were messed around from start to finish. The van we had reserved wasn't available at our location and we had to be driven across London to another location. We took out Supercover and were told not to bother taking photos of the dented and scratched van we were given. On return we were handed a bill of £1,200 for these dents and scratches (that were there prior to our rental beginning)! We were incredibly shocked and complained, only to be told we'd been charged 'in error' as the Supercover insurance covered these anyway. God knows what a fight we'd have had on our hands if we hadn't taken the Supercover insurance.
Overall a shambolic, anxiety-inducing experience that seemed to be overwhelmingly like a money-making scam.

We rented a car from Hertz in Bournemouth Airport, after the return at 3am in the morning we got an e mail saying we owed 167 pounds for the repair of a scratch. the car was parked in a family house drive and was returned in same condition as it was rented to us.
They are scammers, dishonest and I believe that the Police need to be involved to stop them scamming their customers.
