We rented a van for 4 days. We selected the premium insurance coverage for €45 per day, which was having a cap for any incident of €600 and it was supposed to cover windshield, etc… (my mistake: I thought that coverage was also for other damages as lamps, etc…). Staff at happy campers was professional and helpful. Unfortunately, on the trip, one night, getting out of a parking lot, as there were not street lights, I hit back a stone, damaging a little bit the bumper and 1 tail light. I informed about it when returning the van. The staff confirmed that the only damaged parts were the plastic bumper and the tail light. The staff instructed that how happy campers works is, it charged the full €600, sends the van to repair, and in 1 or 2 weeks, when the van is back from repair (only the bumper and the tail light repair/replacement), happy campers returns the difference eg: if the repair cost is €350, they return €250. When I came back to UK, I checked the cost of both spare parts was max €135. But anyway, being Iceland more expensive + labour, etc… I assumed that it will be more expensive, but still some money would be left to return. 3 weeks passed with no news, I wrote happy campers. After 2 days they replied that they will come back to me. After another 2 weeks (5 weeks) I wrote again. After 3 days, they sent me an invoice (no signed, no stamped, no plate No), indicating that the total cost cos c.€700. No more explanation. I checked the invoice and translated the 4 items listed for repair. And I realized that most of the cost c.€500 was for 2 items painting and paint. As confirmed by the staff member who checked the van, there was not any damage in the paint of the van. To replace a tail light and a plastic bumper, you do not need to paint. I complained to Happy campers but no reply at all. Very unhappy with the after-service. We selected happy campers (which is more expensive than other options) and a more expensive van, a premium insurance, etc… to avoid this kind of troubles. I will be putting a claim in the Iceland consumers office and check which other actions I could take. But anyway, very disappointed with happy campers.

1. I asked them how they store my payment information:
they store it on a piece of paper behind the counter and in a safe overnight. But when I was there, the safe was OPEN. Around 5 minutes later there were even no coworkers in the room. Literally any coworker + other customers could steal my private payment information.
2. They store your payment information for 6 months!
According to GDPR it should be kept for the absolute shortest time required and at least be stored safely (encrypted cloud etc. and NOT on paper).
This company straight up don't care about GDPR or your privacy.

Our car broke down at the end of the trip. We spent two nights right at the front of the car workshop in the middle of nowhere. The last two days of our vacation we were waiting for evacuation. Instead of apologies from the owner we received very unpleasant attitude and accusations that we broke the car. As a great favor, they returned the cost for one day and only after I insisted on some compensation.
The landscapes were nice, but the service when people came into action was terrible.
