Their cleaning services need more quality control. I've had about 6 cleanings (one serviced by two different people), and in that time I've had three good cleanings (all three by the same cleaner) and four cleaners who were problematic for one reason or another.
The New to Handy cleaners are a dice toss in the extreme. You never know what you're going to get with them, and there's no discount for using a new cleaner. I think new cleaners should be discounted to account for the customer basically performing initial quality control on that cleaner.
I've had cleaners who have left my lockbox on the open code, who have inadvertently locked me out of my house, who have nearly broken my shower head, and who have basically only spot cleaned to do the bare minimum necessary for the job. And if you try to report issues, Handy will offer to send another (often new, leading to the same problems over and over again) cleaner, but this is not frequently a free re-send. Also -- by the time I've had a bad cleaning, I don't really want to deal with another stranger coming to my house, I'd rather just spot clean whatever I'm unhappy with, and get a refund for the time the cleaner did not spend in my house.
To that end -- Handy recommends 4 hours for my house. Their cleaners routinely only stay 90 minutes to 2 hours. But their leaving early does not result in any refund for me, even if they don't do all of the work promised.
I realize Handy pays the cleaners very little. Most of the reports from cleaners I've seen indicates that Handy takes 70% of the money, which is outrageous. At most, their commission should be to the tune of 20%. So a part of me can't blame these cleaners for cheaping out. I think the fault is on Handy for not doing enough to ensure quality, and for not doing enough to pay their cleaners so the cleaners have reason to take pride in their work.
Pay the extra money, hire a real cleaning service.
EDIT: Responding to the reply below. I'm not talking about one cleaning. I'm talking about multiple cleanings going poorly. The most recent one she didn't finish the job, left early, and then locked me out of my house. But I've had *multiple* other terrible cleanings that necessitated this review.
But you know, thanks for giving me a canned response that indicates you didn't read this review thoroughly.

So, I’ve used 3 people to clean my apt at differing times. The first 1- scheduled for 3 hrs was done in an hour and a half-barely cleaned anything so I instructed him to mop, and clean certain areas. Chalked it up to him being young and maybe new.
Second time, wasn’t bad but not GREAT. Sinks weren’t cleaned well, the floor wasn’t cleaned well and she pledged the Heck out of my favorite unit! It was mediocre. I instructed her, she addressed. Someone I could work with, I thought.
Last time was today- I choose the same person That cleaned my place, last time, but they give me some random new guy- I live in a big building so, I thought it be great to bring through garage, allow him to unload to keep from trucking through large building, with equipment. As I proceeded out of car, to help him unload and allow into building, he said it was TOO STRESSFUL for him, refused the job and bounced. I’ve never in my life had such horrible service. As soon as he refuses the job- immediately, he is WIPED from the ap view. I did get my refund- which takes 3-5 business days, however, no one truly addressed the cleaning guy (Robert) behavior. I will never ever, ever, ever use this service for anything, again! Trust me. MaidPro is coming out and I’m happy to SPEAK to a person and deal with a company that will take responsibility for their team. This handy is for the birds! Trust me. Save your coins.

I was trying to book a cleaner short notice and one those very few available didnt come AT ALL. Most cleaners couldnt speak english so i highly doubt they went trough vetting process if they have zero history in UK. I feel more confident having english speaking cleaner in my house so i can trust them more.
But Handy seems like employing cheapish immigrants who not only cant understand english, they dont know how to travel accross London thus highly unreliable.

Tie you in to a service that is poor and charge you £60 to cancel

I scheduled a repair and had it cancelled by their people twice. Rescheduled both times only to have a no show the third and yes, 4th RESCHEDULE! The company then sends a request to rate the last scheduled handyman - who never showed.
They charge your credit card and hold the amount charged as an account credit for the no shows, no phone number can be found on their website, no monitoring of their staff. AWFUL to deal with.

Worst service EVER received. Lowe’s contracted ‘handy’ to install ceiling fan and wall control unit for us. First visit guy hooked up ceiling fan and wall control unit wrong. Had to schedule 2nd visit. At 2nd visit different guy had no clue what he was supposed to do, started taking fan apart and broke Dom light! Asking questions about wires! Do urself a favor and save urself some time. Don’t hire ‘handy’ and make sure when u go thru Lowe’s that it is not ‘handy’ that they are contracting with!

To say that Handy is a convenient service, is misleading at best. It is a subscription that you cannot get out of without a $99 charge. Furthermore, when you skip a service they charge you and "will credit you in the future" but they don't. Deceptive advertising!! The quality of the "maids" is sketchy at best. Of the three maids they sent, only one was worth the money. The minimum charge is for 3 hours but I live in an 800 sf apartment that hardly takes that long to clean. AVOID this service at all cost!!

THANKS FOR THE INCONVENIENCE. These guys canceled my Sunday appointment 15 min before the appointment! We had scheduled our weekend around this appointment to get our house cleaned before our visitors arrive. Now we have to find helpers at this very last minute. I’m never going to use handy again and I would have rated them with zero stars if I could but the minimum is 1 star.

This company is a scam. They are thieves. Do not sign up for this service, you will end up having to clean your house yourself after they leave. COMPLETE FRAUDS.

Handy is lying about it's reviews ratings percentage.. The majority of its ratings here are one star!

I would provide 0 stars if possible. I scheduled cleaning services two weeks ago for routine bi-weekly services. My credit card was charged. I took a day off. No one showed up. I emailed Handy because there is no phone number to call the company and repeatedly called the person who was to be at my house. No answer, no vm set up and later the phone was out of service. Handy sent me canned email responses to my concerns and told me to wait until 10 am (scheduled service time) because they are clearly in a different time zone and had no knowledge of the service time. It was already11 am where the service was to be performed when they sent the email. Total waste of my time and money. Look for services locally with a phone number to communicate with the company. BIG MISTAKE!

SCAM to get $99?
I had my first cleaning with this company on a pre-set date and time. I never heard from them again until this morning at 6:15am in a text that THEY had scheduled me for a cleaning appointment at 8:00am THAT SAME MORNING. I had no previous knowledge of this appointment. I work and could not/would not ever be available at that time. I contacted them immediately to explain I never made the appointment, nor agreed to any future appointments made by them without confirming dates and times with me. Outrageous. Now they are charging me a cancellation fee of $99 for cancelling an appointment I never even made. What a racket.

Used Handy a few times. 2 out of the 3 "professionals" were unreliable (last minute rescheduling, late arrivals), hasty, and only provided superficial service (wiping down surfaces). Handy Select is, itself, a crummy product, which bills $99 annually for the privilege of paying $25+ per hour. Automatic renewal in contravention of automatic renewal, and terrible customer support when called out on it. Run from Handy.

SAVE YOURSELF!! read the negative reviews and trust them!! the alternative is excessive $$ for terrible service, potential threat to your safety by random strangers in your home for 4 hours. The company is a fraud in service, cost and safety!

Very convenient and usually professional service.
The only snag is that u get different cleaners each time, but I guess that’s the trade off for the flexibility

I booked twice and neither of the cleaning people showed up. Handy.com gives a credit but twice no shows c'mon. I went with an actual made service instead. To much of a headache dealing with this broker or maybe they should do better follow ups with the contracted cleaning people.

I had an appointment this morning at 8AM for a 4 hour condo cleaning in Chicago, Illinois, USA. Selling my condo, today is the closing date, buyer requested professional cleaning as part of the sale.
I received a text at 7:30AM saying they cleaner had to cancel. Now I totally understand that things happen and people need to cancel, but 30 minutes prior is inconsiderate.
My review is mainly for how Handy's customer service handled this situation. First off, they only have email support so you can't call or chat with someone, you can only email them and then wait.....so email them and wait I did. Their response was to reschedule the cleaning to the next day and offer me a $20 credit. I won't own the condo after today, so why would rescheduling the cleaning to the next day fix my problem? It won't. I'm sure there were cleaners in your network that you could have reached out to in order to get me same day cleaning.

I booked an electrician with Handy to hide electrical wires for my 4 mounted televisions. I requested that tools and materials be supplied beforehand. The service I received from Handy customer service and the technician was poor to say the least and electrician was not able to install or move a single outlet. He however did leave holes all over my walls which will not need to be dry walled and patched. The technician left my home and said he was going to get more supplies but then calls me and says that he isn't able to finish the job because he has another appointment. Yet he had not done a single thing. I quickly emailed Handy customer service and requested a full refund but was told I was only able to receive 50% refund due to their policy or I could reschedule another appointment with another tech. An apology was not offered and this company does not value its customers. I wrote 3 emails expressing my disappointment and dissatisfaction but Handy would not budge on their policy. Unfortunately, Because I can not obtain a 100 percent refund or even consideration for the damage done to my wall. I am now forced to book with another electrician which could likely result in a bad outcome and further damage to my walls. Handy proved to me today that it does not care about making it right for the customer it is only about profit! Stay away!

We scheduled a house clean two weeks ago for two days before a guest arrived on a weekend. TWO hours before our 9 am Wednesday appointment, the cleaner canceled. Customer Service rescheduled the cleaning for the following day (Thursday) and credited us $10 (1/8 of the original charge), but only after we asked about a refund/credit.
Another cleaner accepted the job late on Wednesday evening, asked us clarifying questions about the clean, and then ONE hour before the 9 am Thursday appointment they canceled.
We emailed Customer Service again saying we needed service completed before Friday afternoon. However, they said they were unable to find a replacement for us so they rescheduled for Monday and credited us another $10.
The issue is that there's no guarantee the service will be completed. Handy is only a communication service to connect providers with clients, they are not accountable for the services themselves. Perhaps Handy would be appropriate if you don't have a deadline, but I do not plan on ever using them again.

If I could give this company less than one star I would. Their customer service is absolutely non existent. It's easy for them to take your money with a real life person, but when it's time for you to talk to a real person there none to be found. I have gone through the e-mail channels, I have left voicemails, and I have called the person who was scheduled to come and clean. I have not that in any responses from anyone. This company is an absolute fraud. I am looking for other individuals who have had the same experience as I am filing suit against this company for fraud. If you have had simular experiences, please complain to the BBB. I'm sure we'r could turn it into a class action suit.

I wish I had read all these reviews before I signed up for this horrible service. So many issues... My apartment started off very clean, and so I just wanted a few things done really well. I wanted my floors vacuumed, steam cleaned and then mop and glowed, I wanted my bathroom cleaned completely and I wanted my kitchen range hood, counters and sinks cleaned. I also believed my bed would be made and trash taken out. I provided all cleaning supplies that were non-toxic, all natural...as well as the steam mop (a lot easier than a regular mop), vacuum and paper towels etc... The cleaner came with an attitude. She was obviously going to do the least possible. First she objected to cleaning "upstairs" which is our bedroom - really. Then she objected to cleaning our shower curtains by literally throwing them in the washing machine a few feet away. She insisted on using her vacuum, which was portable and inadequate compared to our Dyson, and she didn't even vacuum the rug under our dining table. I had to force her to clean our shower fully and in the process she broke the water controller and I had to spend 20 minutes getting the water to go off, which involved calling our super. He remarked that the only way that could have happened was that she used extreme force. In spite of being told that I wanted her to use my non-toxic products, she used chemicals all over my apartment to the point where I could barely breathe while trying to fix the broken faucet. When she went to dust our bookshelves she knocked fragile items over and so I told her not to bother with the other bookshelf with valuables. So she took that I guess to mean she didn't need to dus the other 6 bookshelves with books... It was crazy. She did a cursory job on my bedroom and even though I had stripped the bed, she did not remake it. Then she left an hour early and did not mop and glow my floor, which now I will have to to. When you sign up for the service it allows you to pick the person you want to come. When she arrived I called her Samantha because that is who I picked after reading the bogus reviews, but her name was Melody. Total bait and switch. To add insult to injury they gave me a $20 credit for a future cleaning. Seriously! I just want to cancel, but they are charging me a $99 cancelation fee. Before I pay that fee I am going to contact the Better Business Bureau, and send a written letter revoking their authorization to charge my credit card and send a letter to my bank as well per the instructions on the Consumer Protection Bureau website. Honestly, this was such a poor job that I was happy the cleaner left an hour early. Terrible. Shame on this rip off company.

After Handy screwed us twice I posted a review and received this response...
We understand your sentiments with recent experience and the value of your time. However, we provide majority of the support via email and we'd like to make it up to you. Email us at team------
Well Handy then sent us an email apologizing again and scheduled another appointment for today....and what do you know THE "PRO"NEVER SHOWED UP AGAIN!!!!
ANOTHER DAY WASTED - DO NOT USE HANDY!!!! - HIRE ANYONE ELSE - EVEN A 3 YEAR OLD WITH A TOY TOOL SET IS BETTER. AND I DONT GET PAID WHEN I DONT WORK AND THEY COST ME AND MY WIFE 3 DAYS ...A DISGRACE ...AND THEY HIDE BEHIND EMAILS SO THEY DON'T HAVE TO FACE ANGRY CUSTOMERS .
STAY AWAY- ALL THEY DO IS PROMISE THINGS AND THEN LIE
AS THEY SAY - FOOL ME 3 TIMES SHAME ON ME

Such a frustrating experience. First time, the house cleaner was a no show. No call, no email, nothing. Second time she arrived 45 minutes late and left 30 minutes early. I had to re-clean the bathrooms. Third time (they comped me so I felt I would give them another try) she is supposed to arrive at 1. At 1:30 I look at email and see I got an email saying we have rescheduled you. Well, I am having a party the next day, so her coming a couple days later does not help. I cancelled right then - whether I had money owed to me or not. But, the really frustrating thing is you cannot call them and they don't call you. All done through their website and customer service. Don't go there!

Whatever you do don’t sign out for a six-month plan. Especially if the first cleaning is extremely affordable. When you cancel the plan they charge you $99 and if you reschedule the charge you $99 so beware. When I called contacted customer service there was nothing they could do. I just think that’s bad business most places don’t charge you to cancel membership. I’m never using Handy again for anything and I’m telling everyone to be careful.

The worst company ever. Will charge you unnecessarily and say they need to take 84 pounds each time we skip a Booking when they are the ones who automatically book the next month. I was given a excuse that if we skip the booking they need to make up time for the cleaner who gets paid 7 pounds per hour. Big difference between 7 pounds and 84! Haha Ridiculous! Too much to say but I will stop right there. If you don't want a scam company taking your money for no reason, please stop!! HANDY IS THE BIGGEST SCAM EVER!!!
Oh and they charge us extra while the cleaners are being underpaid without any equipment provided by handy. If that's not a scam I don't know what is! Stay far away.
