WARNING: Do not fly China Southern Airlines. What looks cheap is cheap. My flight home was cancelled. Stuck in Shanghai needing to be back at work. Refused a substitute flight. Ended up costing me over $800 AUD which was more than the $500 AUD original return ticket. I still have not received the refund for the original cancelled flight.

Passenger comfort is last , All this airlines cares about is money and making more money. Don't worry about customer experience or passenger satisfaction. Just give them more money.
Poor customer service . poor complain resolution. Aak them to talk to a supervisor or a manager , they wont let you. Either the managers or supervisors are too scared to talk or they have run out of excuses because nothing changes and managers are tired so they have stopped talking to customers.
Very Poor and Very Greedy Airlines.

Where do I send a letter of complaint? I had a terrible experience with this airline. Poor service, promises to fix problems unkept. I'm hoping they will listen to my complaint and fix the issues I had. I have a thorough letter with attachments.

Great service and got a free hotel at Guangzhou airport during my 13 hour layover. Definitely flying with them again.

My actual flights were fine but customer service is poor/difficult. Before flying to Vietnam via Amsterdam (from London) I received conflicting information of what the luggage allowance was. I then got fined £90 for my checked luggage being overweight. I emailed China Southern but they kept telling me to contact another department and I got sent round in circles.

I don't care how cheap the airfare is, I'm never flying with this airline again! I chose them so that I could fly directly in and out of Adelaide to/from Seoul without going via another Australian city. Getting to Seoul via Guangzhou was no problem, but on arriving at Incheon Airport for the return trip I was told the Guangzhou/Adelaide leg of the journey had been cancelled and I had to stay in Guangzhou for 2 days! I had repeatedly gone to their website typing in my email address correctly requesting an itinerary I could print out but never received a response. On the website it still showed that the CAN-ADL flight was still going to operate. Thankfully there were no major appointments I had to attend that I would be forced to miss but it certainly messed up any plans I had in place. Put up in a so-so hotel, but not having planned to stay I only had pocket change as far as Chinese currency went. No money changers nearby, the hotel and local banks wouldn't change my Australian notes, so I had to walk 4 kilometers on a very humid day in 40 degree heat to find the nearest money changer. Should I want to do anything other than stay in the hotel room watching Chinese TV during the 2 days that I never intended or wanted to be there then that's all at my own expense. After this experience and having read other similar reviews I have absolutely no faith that if I fly with them again the exact same situation won't arise, only next time it may mean missing an important meeting or event. I suggest giving China Southern a very wide berth regardless of how tempting an offer may be.

Chief Executive Officer
China Souther Airlines
Re Delayed flight on Saturday 27th April CZ3202 Xian to Guangzhou 11:00-13:40
It was unfortunate that there was heavy thunderstorm in Guangzhou Baiyun airport on last
Saturday 27th April, delaying departure of CZ3202 from Xian to Guangzhou, as well as other
flights to and from Guangzhou that afternoon and we eventually took off at 17:59, 7 hours later
While we can accept that this is due to inclement weather causing havoc, there is NO excuse at
the way China Southern handled the delayed and frustrated passengers on arrival in Baiyun
There were literally hundreds of other delayed passengers milling around your transfer desk both
foreign and local, all trying to shove in front and no where to sit or any notices informing those
unruly queue behind how long it would take to deal with them and we literally stood for 3 solid
hours waiting to be attended
We were on a connecting flight back to Penang on CZ395 at 17:15 arriving in Penang at 21:00 on
the same 27th April afternoon but needless to say, this CZ395 did not wait for us and took off
without the 21 passengers in our tour group as well as several other connecting passengers for
Penang arriving from other airports, as our plane did not touch down till 20:45
China Southern would have plenty of time to know of our delayed arrival and should have
arranged for our connecting flight as soon as possible the next day with your ground staff meeting
us at arrival gate to inform us of our next available flight and arranged accommodation for the
Instead we had to queue up like hundreds of disorderly passengers eventually forcing our way to
the front desk as many, I’m afraid, local passengers, always shouting and barging in, that we
formed a human chain to stop them
I travelled extensively all these years around the world and had experienced occasional delays
and hold ups but always the ground staff were there waiting for us and sent us to the hotels
immediately with the next boarding passes in hand
Why can’t China Southern do the same but to treat us as cattle to beg for the next flight when it is
your duty to sort it out before we arrived in Guangzhou when you have 9 hours plus to deal with
this urgent connecting problem knowing well in advance the adverse weather situation?
Yes I am well aware that we were not the only delayed flight but you have ample time to sort them
out before hand, instead having us to stand queuing for another 3 hours at your mercy at your
small understaffed transfer counter and did not get to the overnight hotel till after 12:50 midnight
and then having to get up at 5am
It is credit to our BigPlanet tour leader Mr Chuah that he managed to negotiate seats for us on
Sunday Malaysian airlines MH0377 to Kuala Lumpur then another Malaysian airlines flight
MH1166 back to Penang arriving just over 24 hours later on Sunday 28th April at 9:30pm,
because China Southern was to put all of us on your Monday 29th April flight as there weren’t
enough seats for our group on both your Sunday 28th April flights to Penang
I demand an apology and compensation and wish China Southern will improve the delayed
passengers procedure as surely you were well aware of this adverse weather situation to arrange
for transfer and accommodation well before hand
I am emailing to the only three addresses I could find on your website and hope this will eventually
reach your desk and you will deal with my complaint expeditiously as I will have to email the press
A very disappointed CZ passenger and also reflexing on the view on all my other 20 fellow

I flew from Penang Malaysia to Guangzhou 22 June for short business trip however when waiting for my luggage it never arrived. Was told it was still in Penang when enquired and will arrived later that night at 7pm on another flight and will be delivered to hotel. Waited that night and next day confirmed it at Guangzhou airport but no one has delivered it still or do they know when. Flying singapore 24th so a full 2 days without luggage and clothes to change. You call and no-one can give you answers. Horrible airline service best to avoid this airline at all cost.

Just returned from a trip between NZ and Phuket with a stop in Guangzhou both ways. The service received on all the flights was not too bad and the flight attendants were reasonably attentive. However, on our final flight between Guangzhou and Christchurch, we had a delay of about an hour and a half or so, which is fine. I’ve flown enough to know that sometimes that just happens. What I did not expect however, was the service we received during this delay...
The people running the gate seemed to have no idea what was going on and were not interested in providing any information. After a boarding call was finally made 30 minutes after boarding was supposed to occur, we proceeded to be stood in non-moving line for nearly an hour while staff walked around, talked with each, used their phones, and refused to provide information about what was happening and what time we would actually be boarding. When I finally pulled a staff member aside to ask about why we were delayed and when we would find out what time we would be leaving, she told me that there was no delay and that they were also waiting. Considering that at this point, it was 1:10am and the flight was due to leave at 1am I found the idea of us not being delayed very hard to believe. On top of this, once boarding finally commenced, there was no apology by the gate staff for the hold up and the delay. Considering there were a lot of elderly people and young children on the flight, I find this service to have been shocking and down right rude. This experience, on the whole has ruined my opinion of China Southern Airline and I will be telling everyone I know that I do not recommend flying with this airline either.

I recently flew from Guangzhou to San Francisco with my family . And it was an awful experience, we had a connecting flight from San Francisco to Mexico and our flight was delay for 4 hours, supposedly for bad weather, but another flights were leaving just fine, and there was just a little rain. At first everything seem to be ok, there was a little rain but they didn’t say there was any problem, so they boarded us punctual, but to get to the airplane we had to take a bus, so they put as many people as they could on the bus, and took us to the airplane When we got to the airplane they didn’t open the doors nor said anything, they had us waiting about 1 hour outside the airplaine in the bus standing up, without any space to even move a little. many of the people in the bus were elderly people. The hole time in the bus they didn’t offer any explanation, then only took us back to the building when many of the passengers started complaining that we had been there for more than 1 hour and that there wasn’t any space to move. After about 2 hour more they boarded us. When we got to San Francisco at 11 at night, we had miss our connecting flight to Mexico, we received our bags that were sucking wet, so wet that many out belongings including our cloth were wet as well. We went to the counter to complain and they booked us a flight for the next day at 11 p.m at night gave us 100 dollars and told us to leave very aggressive. They didn’t even bother to booked us a hotel, so we spend the first 2 hours outside the airport looking for any available hotel that could take us in, of course the hotel only was 200 dollars the night, plus the taxi that took us there was 30 dollars plus the food we consumed . So the money they gave us is without a doubt a joke since it doesn’t cover your necessary expenses, plus out cloth was wet so we didn’t have anything to wear.
The next day when we took our flight that China Southern Airlines program for us they charged us 100 dollars for our luggage since they were not included, so they pay the flight but not the luggage and they were expecting that with 100 dollars we could pay for the hotel, taxi, bag and 4 meals in San Francisco(that is very expensive) .
Conclusión: China Southern Airlines gave us the worst experience ever and making us spend more money that we were planning. We will never flight in this airline again.

I made a genuine mistake of reserving a ticket with my wife's married name instead of her passport name. My wife was unable to fly so my 10 year old daughter and had to cancel what was to be a trip of a lifetime. I spent 5-6hrs between China southern and their travel agent Edreams trying to resolve the issue. No luck! Tough luck! You messed up and we won't even sell you another ticket because you a need a Chinese credit card. 'No one can help you' This, for a genuine name change error! China Southern's policies are backward, disgraceful perhaps even unlawful.
China Southern's non-Chinese customer services depts. are only open Mon-Fri 0800hrs - 1700hrs, nothing at the weekend! Eh!? This is 2018. The Chinese team were pleasant but USELESS. Even the managers cannot and won't help.
Steer well clear of China Southern people, you don't want to be left high and dry. Thoroughly disgusted and seriously out of pocket.

Good airline with a bad service. I flew from Sydney to Delhi CZ359 on 23/4/19, after reaching at Delhi Airport I was informed that my one baggage out of two is left behind at Guangzhou and will reach in the next flight coming next day morning and my baggage shall be delivered latest by next day 3pm. Committed many times by the airport staff that they had marked it for urgent delivery and I shall be getting my baggage in couple of hours. Now it’s two days no proper response. Heard people also had experience with the missing items after receiving the baggage. I don’t know what’s going to happen with me.

China Southern Airline, NEVER FLIGHT WITH THEM AGAIN, it was the most terrible trip that we’ve ever travelled.
I am writing in with the most disappointed feeling I have ever felt about an airline. Recently my family (my husband, my baby 18 months & I) had an awful experience with China Southern for round trip. We bought the air ticket from Paris (France) to Ho Chi Minh city (Vietnam) in November 2018.
On the depart trip from Paris to Ho Chi Minh:
We lost 1 baggage and received it at home after that. When we opened the valise, it was opened and messy by Chinese Customs. We understand that it was not caused by China Southern. However, we had the most disgusting experience ever with this airline for the return trip.
On the return trip from Ho Chi Minh to Paris:
When we arrived at the airport in Vietnam for check-in at counter, the employee of China Southern informed us that the flight from Guanzhou to Paris was cancelled by China Southern, we had to stay at Guanzhou one day for the next flight. Our original flight was: Ho Chi Minh – Guanzhou, Guanzhou – Paris. Meanwhile, we already purchased the air ticket from Paris to Québec (Canada) with Air Canada, we couldn’t not stay at Guanzhou one day. We asked them why the flight was cancelled without advance notice. They’d just explained us that: ‘’Because the flight from Guanzhou to Paris was cancelled on Oct 16th, 2018 and the system changed you into next flight on next day automatically’’. We was shocked with this reason and required them to find another flight for us. We showed them our evidence (air ticket with Air Canada) to tell them that we couldn’t miss the flight from Paris to Québec (Canada).
Finally, they found another flight for us to Paris with more connecting flight, 3 flights totally instead of 2 flights (Ho Chi Minh – Guanzhou, Guanzhou – Amsterdam, Amsterdam – Paris). We had no choice and accepted this option. They couldn’t print the boarding pass for us from Amsterdam – Paris since they cooperated with KLM, we had to print it at Amsterdam. When we arrived at Amsterdam airport, the next flight was after only 45 – 60 mins before boarding time. We had to run quickly in the airport with a baby to pass the customs airport/ security and find the place to print the boarding pass. Fortunately, we had arrived at the port to the airline on time.
When we arrived at Paris airport, we didn’t found our 3 baggages and we come back to Canada without them. We received them at our house in Canada after 1 – 2 days. Two of the valise was damage seriously, can’t use it anymore.
It was the most terrible trip that we’ve ever travelled. We was really disappointed why our flight from Guanzhou to Paris was cancelled without advance notice by email/ telephone? This flight was cancelled on Oct 16th, 2018, our flight was on Nov 28th, 2018; they had enough time to inform to us in advance for the solution.
I am speechless about our entirely bad experience with China Southern. I really don’t know what to say about your airline. From start to end, this has been the worst encounter we’ve ever had with an airline.

Absolutely awful experience that my partner and I had to endure during our flight from Seoul to London with a 14 hour stopover at Wuhan airport, where we left stranded with no help at all from China Southern.
Our flight arrived at midnight at Wuhan airport, where I had previously called and emailed the airline repeatedly to make sure they would provide us with a hotel during the stopover. I also spoke to China Southern's staff at Incheon airport during check-in, and they all had assured me that while hotel reservations cannot be done on the phone or from other offices, there would be staff available upon our arrival, despite the late hour, who would arrange a hotel for us. This turned out to be completely untrue as there was no one at Wuhan airport to help and we were left there stranded with other passengers who also had connecting flights. A call to China Southern's customer service told us that they couldn't provide us with a hotel because we hadn't booked it beforehand, which is clearly a lie as we were repeatedly told Wuhan bookings can only be made after arriving at the airport.
We were forced to find a hotel on our own in the middle of the night with zero assistance from China Southern and ended up paying nearly 100 euros for a room.
After that I made a formal complaint before getting on our next plane and also made a complaint via email to their customer service, it's been over a month and no one has gotten back to me and instead they keep telling me my complaint has been "forwarded to the relevant department".
If you think you're gonna pay less with China Southern, it definitely won't be the case as with this awful service and attitude you will end up forking out a lot more money while having to find a hotel on your own in the wee hours in a country where you can't speak the language and access to the internet is extremely limited.

Changed our flight times and then offered an over night stay in China or a refund. I wanted to holiday in Bali not China. Uk office passed me onto the head office in China who NEVER RESPONDED AFTER 5 ATTEMPTS.
My refund then took 6 weeks to process...
i had booked my holiday 10 months in advance to get a great deal.
I've just re-booked my flights at an extra cost of £280.
Avoid these bandits at all costs.

Worst experience ever. Bought a flight online. Due to a technical error, my first surname was also used as my middle name when I don't have any middle name. They do not take any responsibility. Just say that we have to book again, which means losing nearly all our money. Customer service completely useless, lie to you. Awful company.
Experiencia malisima. Compramos un billete en su página web. Hubo un problema técnico que hizo que mi primer apellido también se usó como segundo nombre. No toman responsabilidad ninguna. Compañía pésima y servicio al cliente malisimo. Por teléfono nos mienten. La unica solución que nos dan es cancelar el billete y perder todo el dinero.

I feel like I have to add a review here since all of the others are so negative! Yes, their website and app are unpleasant to use (maybe they're better if you speak Chinese, but I doubt it). Yes, Guangzhou immigration is opaque and capricious (transit rules change every time, so make sure you have printouts of bookings and verify their phone numbers work, and don't count on getting out of the airport if your transit isn't overnight). Their phone/airport support is good though. Their planes are all new and clean.
Their staff are helpful and polite. They give their low tier Silver frequent flyers SkyTeam lounge access (but they usually don't tell you - you have to know to ask). Their economy baggage allowances are very generous. They have a nice new airport terminal at Guangzhou. If your Guangzhou transit is >8 hours then they'll give you a good choice of free hotels and a free city tour and free meals and a free rail card and free tickets to attractions.
I'd rate them above Singapore Airlines, if you're travelling economy (how do Singapore Airlines keep getting voted best airline when they treat their economy flyers so poorly?).
Review by Amale1 year ago
They do not send any information about the ticket that they sell. We bought the ticket 5 months before the departure date and Southern China Airlines did not provide any information about the transit situation and even the information was not on their website! We denied on boarding just because they did not provide any information on their website. We had very dramatic days and we had to buy a very expensive ticket instead because we had to be back in Australia on time. When we contacted them they did not accept any responsibility. Definitely we will follow this legally, but by writing this review at least we prevent another drama for someone else.
So, I do not recommend this airline to anyone looking for peace of mind!

What is there to say, Well best to be objective, I have traveled a lot, I have been to twenty countries with numerous internal flights as well as many flights while in the military my flight to Philippines via china was possibly the best flight I have ever had, Feeling I had done well in my choice I had no idea what was to come, I traveled from Cebu to Manila nothing said on air Asia flight, I took shuttle bus from one terminal to another nothing said, Then I arrived and tried to check in for return flight, It is best I say first part of this nightmare was not China southerns fault, At counter I was told International runway closed due to Chinese airliner crash landing delays for up to eight hours, Well this extended and extended and ended up being 24 hours but great it is clear lets get out of hear I thought still time to be back for work Monday glad I booked to have 1 and a half days rest, China southern airways well hours and hours later time to get a boarding pass three and a half hours in a line to get a boarding pass, Here is the problem booking was changed again and again, By this time there are 10 of thousands of people in the terminal everywhere they were sleeping, Then we started to see flight attendants walking the halls with flight numbers as nobody could hear the speakers because of so many people all airlines but China southern it seems a man I met in line from England living in France and an Asian man living in US were sitting with me passing the time the English man went to the toilet and came running back and said they have given final call for our flight we ran to the gate got there to be told no we have closed now we said it over the speakers that nobody could hear? So hear we go again they tried to blame us until the number of passengers had reached eight people left behind funny enough nearly all were European a thing I have noticed often in my short dealings with this country, Ok so this is now over 48 hours since I was meant to be on flight and over 50 hours since I left my new wife to return for work in Australia, The story about calls over the load speakers was not the first untruth spoken by this airline, So ok they will organised again so a few hours later lady came is with sign with new flight on so we run to gate wait in line then they tell us to sit down until all booked passengers were seated, Then they said two passengers had not turned up, We thought great I was first to arrive at gate I should get a seat then suddenly 10 minutes later much longer than they gave us on previous flight when they closed door the passengers turned up and they held flight for them to get on not to put a finer point on it but passengers were Chinese? So then they closed doors and left with us still waiting there all off us were very upset and stated if they could not look after there passengers then give us our money back so we could organize ourselves they gave us some left over economy class meals and all there staff left without saying anything ? Ok then later we were moved out into the hall again and the lady left without saying a thing a now normal trend, so after waiting a few more hours a new flight came in and we finally got on This was 55-57 hours after we arrived at the airport and this was for the 2 and a half hour leg to China I thought great I only have a 2 hour wait for flight to Australia because we asked and they said ask when we get to China well I got there and they said no flight today now you have to stay in China and you must get Visa for being hear? But we will give you accommodation because your flight is 9.30 pm tomorrow night by this time I have been away for over 60 hours I was starting to actually see things moving that were not there, So I thought at least I could get some sleep well no directions just a picture on paper how to get to station for accommodation and this airport is huge and I mean huge so half an hour later I found what was on picture, Ok now am organized, Lady comes and guides myself and one other to a station wagon in pick up neither the lady or the driver spoke and English so it took some convincing to get us in unmarked car, But I was to tired to fight anymore so of we went with a strange women in an unmarked car in a country I was not meant to be? I found myself awake again as I watched the driver fight to stay awake drifting across lanes, But thankfully we made it alive much further away from airport than I expected We go to counter myself and a young man from Korea who spoke English to find out no staff behind the counter spoke English at all< Though hand signs and showing vouchers and passport they got the message and booked us in, And again to be fair the room was beautiful, So as I had not ha a shower for nearly three days now was the time I enjoyed a shower then fell asleep in a very comfortable bed 10 hours lady I am in the lobby again trying to indicate that voucher was only for a bed but not food and as I was not meant to be in country I had no local currency and I had not had food since the flight so duty manager came out who ha a small amount of English and I explained an at the end he said noodles or rice I thought this was an offer so I said noodles would be nice he shook his head and left, but never came back? So after nearly an hour I packed my bag and went back to reception and told then I wanted to go back to airport, The duty manager came out and pointedd to boarding pass that showed that it was then over nine hours till my flight so I explained that would be a day since I had had foo so not taking the hint he ordered the shuttle to take me back to airport then finally I could change some money and get some food at burger king where nobody can speak English? I waited at the airport ha a drink of coke walked an walked to pass the time then it came to flight time an first thing they said was flight is delayed for 30 minutes? Ok I can survive this Then it came in Chinese of course so all the Chinese lined up before we even new what was happening so finally got on flight Now is the time to mention that I have had a slipped disk in my back torn the cartilage in both knees multiple time an tore all ligaments in my right side of my ankle over the years and as you get older they all come back to haunt you, So everything hurt, So for the first time in my life I asked to be upgraded so I could have some leg room I showed them paperwork that showed I was meant to be home three days ago and that I was in exhausted and in a lot of pain the stewardess said I will talk to the supervisor an she never came back? So two hours later when they came back I finally snapped and when she offered me me food I said no thank you and this airline, Hear is the last twist they allowed a couple of Chinese to go forward and return just before landing and when I got up first and all but ran down hallway to get out off plane there was only two people in the entire business class so thank you very much China southern airways (I will not be back) David Anderson flight to Manila via China 27th July meant to return Friday 19th but arrived home afternoon 22nd Losing $400 of work Thanks again. (All that I have said hear is true) I give two stars only because of flight to manila.

Decent staff, OK food, relatively new planes.
Call centre easy to reach on international number, ladies speak decent english to guide through reservation changes.
Flights were on time.
Luggage came late due to getting lost in Paris, Charles De Gaule Airport, not fault of the Airlines.
Overall, for the price we paid, I cannot complain. Would take them again.

Traveled to and, from China recently . For anyone booking a flight and, using China Southern airline beware of delayed flight times. Not always their fault for my low rating but, Chinese immigration treating foreigners like fugitives rather then people going there for a holiday, or a visit. Had my finger prints taken at least twice as well as countless face photo's. I was even unfortunate to miss my connecting flight and, I arrived at my final destination 5 hours later feeling exhausted and, furious I had missed my Chinese wife who had waited countless hours for my arrival. Of course it was good of China Southern air to provide me with another flight but, this in no way compensates me for the hurt I felt being just a humble visitor to their country. I just hope other readers, read my blog so they know what is thrust upon their arrival in Chinese immigration. Okay I can understand they have a tough immigration policy like so many countries but, they will cause delays and, more missed flights for being over meticulous. On my return to China, from Guangzhou I went through the finger print process yet again, and was denied entry to the domestic airport. No reason given but, something to do with our baggage. After almost one hour with all thoughts going through our heads, I and, my Chinese wife was allowed through. Fortunately we made our connecting flight once the airport Southern air staff realized we might miss our next flight. Sorry, but not a good thing given travel should provide some enjoyment and, not an endurance of one's patience.

The ground staff at Guangzhou airport has very bad customer service. I was not made awared of the policy that no duty free is allowed if you transit in the airport unless you travelled in the controlled area. My Duty free was stopped at the security and the Chinese show me the notice written in Chinese and orally told me this policy m. The airline staff failed to let me know abou this policy And I just happen to ask is this policy made aware, they don’t give any comment and didn’t even want to see you.

Worse airline I've ever travelled upon, considering I've flown Aeroflot, Pakistan and few others. Not sure if my issues are from the airline or the travel agent as both are blaming each other, but to cancel a return flight the day before departure is definately not on!
I was offered the ONLY alternative which required an overnight stay in China only to realise later that I would need a visa, which obviously I do not have, then 1 1/2 hours before my coach was about to leave for the airport, I was offered an alternative which included TWO transits which added many more hours to my original booked flight.
The worse being the extra costs I had to encounter having to alter my coach ticket, hotel bookings as well as time off work and dog sitters etc frantically at the last minute!
Then eventually when I was checking in on the day for my return flight, I was told, they cannot check me in for the last leg of my flight and I was given TWO flight numbers for me to trace and track down in Amsterdam airport in order to check myself in. They have NO idea why I have two flight numbers!
Never ever fly China Southern airlines if you want a peaceful relaxing holiday which you have saved up long and hard the whole year working!
I got back feeling more stressed and annoyed than before I left!
Yes, China Southern was cheap, but definately not worth the worry and stress I went through not knowing what to do when CSA simply left me in the lurch!
