I have used Freetaxusa for many years. We use the service and pay for at least 3 returns each year for at least the past 5 years. I've never really had and issue. This year is different. I had to file an ammendment for both state and federal. Its not until after you have paid that they tell you the 14.99 they charge does not allow you to efile state. So you still have to print and mail your return. They know the State you are amending so it really should alert you beforehand. If I knew I'd have to pay for ink, paper, envelope, stamp etc. I'd of just printed the form, filled it out myself and mailed it. I was paying for the convenience. So much for that. Contacted customer care and no response yet.

It's been 7 weeks now since I've filed my taxes and which were filed electronically at that. Even the IRS site says I should have had my refund by now according to the IRS 9 out or 10 returns are processed and refunded within 7-21days. It all started with free tax USA when I signed up to have my refund put on a prepaid visa card which was suppose to be mailed to me with 7days. Thank goodness I didn't give them my real bank information I can only imagine what issues I would be having at this point. Anyway about 10 days at the time had passed and I realized that my debit card hadn't arrived yet so I called the card company from which the debit card was coming from. Now I had emails that verified that I had signed up for a refund to be put on this debit card and mailed to me. So I contacted the card company and they didn't have any information on me anywhere in their system I said that can't be and after about 30 minutes of denial and back and fourth with the representative for the card company I accepted the facts that they didn't have my info. So I then started the week long process that it took to find a way to contact free tax usa and still to this date have not had a single personal phone with anyone from free tax usa. Not a single call from them or even a email from them with a number for me to contact them at my convenience. All I've seemed to have gotten is once we file it it's out of our hands it's not on is any more at that point you need to contact the card company that's what they told me which told me they didn't even read my email where I explained that they didn't have my info which lead me to believe they didn't ever send the info to the card company. I never contacted the card company again seeing that I had already been told that the routing number and the account number that was given toe from free tax usa was not a number that was associated with their cards or accounts. So I then contacted tax hawk which I believe own free tax usa I think that's the case seeing where it says all returns go to tax hawk before they are released to the customer or vise versa or to the IRS. Well again it took 3 days of page scanning looking for a number and of course no number just like free tax USA no number to be had unless. Now hear this after all the trouble they have caused me they only talk to customers who pay them $14.95 to be able to speak to an agent I'm sure which is a waste of money seeing that they only point the finger and pass the blame on to another reason or company. Anyway when I emailed tax hawk with my info they responded back informing me that they had not one thing regarding my name or any of my info I'm their system as being a customer who had file his taxes through their online service. I was livid at this point. I filed my taxes on the 23rd of February its now the 5th of April. My tax return on the IRS website says return is still being processed no time as to when it will be completed. I'm a single guy with nothing major to review. I don't get it I was going to use this money to get a home seeing that I had lost my home of the last 9 years in January and I finally found a homeowner who was renting a place with a huge shop and all perfect for my needs something I've been looking for to have for years now it was a dream come true I was told I would have my return within 3 weeks max that most all 9 out of 10 returns are processed within 10 days since electronically filing them. This was an exciting time to finally had found a home to start over in after now basically being homeless for the last two and a half months now staying where I can my dog and myself. Not too mention that I'm losing all my belongings now on the 12th of this month bc I don't have a place to move my things to from storage I literally have everything I own from my entire life in the storage unit and it's got the few only things I have to remember my mom by all the things from my childhood that she had kept together for me all my furniture everything I have to my name is about to be sold unless I have someone step up and help me in this situation which I would be grateful svd and will take care of whatever it takes to clear up as soon as I get my refund back it's the worst experience of my life I have no one no family to ask for the help if anyone would be willing to help a desperate guy with some of this nightmare I'm living each day not to mention the stress it's putting on me thinking that I've about to lose my most prized possessions I have I will pay it back 10 fold anyway no one use Free tax usa if it's the last place to even use don't just take you tax return and do it yourself the irs will review it if something is wrong they will correct it. But it's strange how free tax USA has no way of contacting them and their father company doesn't have any of my info seems awefully suspect to me if I do say so. Some one feel free to contact me through here if anyone can help I thank you all from the bottom of my heart

No support, no reply to e-mail/chat questions, worthless help screens, no ability to view state returns UNLESS you pay money for what they say is FREE-DO NOT USE THIS TAX SOFTWARE PROVIDER-You will be very unhappy. Try Turbo Tax, H&R block, Tax Act or any other company.

OMG. I've been reading through some of the one-star reviews and they all seem to be written by people who should not be doing their own taxes.
I have a pretty complicated return with a rental property, investments, my wife's unemployment during COVID, credits for energy-saving upgrades, Health Insurance purchased through the Exchange with Premium Assistance, etc. I have always used TurboTax Premium in the past and taxes took me many hours to do.
This year I stumbled across an ad for FreeTaxUSA and it said I could do my taxes and efile for free even if I had rental property and other complex issues. I decided to give it a try. First, it allowed me to import my TurboTax file from last year, which sped up the process. It took me less than a third of the time to do my taxes compared to TurboTax. Yes, you have to pay $12.95 to complete and efile your state return, but TurboTax charges more than double that just to efile your state return. I've always chosen to print out and mail the state return instead. So $12.99 is a bargain. And the version of TurboTax that I was forced to buy because we own a rental property was $70. FreeTaxUSA is free.
I will be using this service from now on.

I tried turbotax last year and they wind up taking almost all my refund by charging more than my refund. It took 3 months to get my refund from irs through turbotax which I give 0 + stars, Bad Place. I tried Freetaxusa this year and it didn't cost me a dime and they helped me get a awesome refund back without any lies or hassles unlike turbotax who says that my stimulus check will be on my card ( Never showed up on the card). So yeah Freetaxusa is the only way to go. THANK YOU FREETAXUSA.

FreeTaxUSA uses their bank account routing number on your return. No heads up. So, you whole return goes to them instead of you. Therefore, your future stimulus or other payments go to the routing number that the IRS has on hand. No phone number means "SCUMBAG" outfit. Stay away from these $#*!s.

Fast free and easy. I've used this place for a few years and I will say that I've not had an issue with any aspect of this site. I started using FreetaxUSA when my brick and mortar tax preparer didn't send my return and I didn't receive my refund until September. Last year, I had it by February 15th. This place is so free that I upgraded this year just so I wouldn't feel like I'm stealing.

I saw pretty much from the start that filing my state taxes would be $14.99 and I happily paid the extra $6.99 for the deluxe/audit assist option. Not only was this the first time in several years that I've had to file taxes, but it was the first time I had to file as a self employed translator. I expected the whole process to be a nightmare, and frankly, it was until I found this site. I was reading up on what forms I needed to file as a freelancer and was getting frustrated. I saw an ad for FreeTaxUSA and thought I'd just take a look. Glad I did. It was easy to report my income and business expenses, and a huge weight off my shoulders finding a tax filing site that doesn't charge a ton and knowing that doing my taxes next year will be a relatively simple task. I was dreading filing my taxes, but FreeTaxUSA was a great find and a huge help. I really can't stress enough what a comfort it is to have this done and know that someone can help me if any issues do arise.

Just like many others my taxes were rejected so my taxes could not be completed on time. Now I have to pay a real CPA to fix what ever is going on and they are giving me the run around A rejection means they did not do their job, this should trigger and auto refund. I will be contacting my Bank and I already contacted the BBB. I thought it was a simple mistake on their end but I am believing what others are posting this company is a scam. If I receive my refund I will update this.

In 2019, after filing 2018 tax return, FreetaxUSA double charged my credit card. 2 charges for $15.89 for one return in Pa. I disputed the charge...rightfully so. One charge for $15.89 was retuned. Problem resolved or so I believed. Fast forward to filing the 2019 return in the year 2020. After completing the tax return. My credit card and a few other cards of mine were denied. The reason stated was that there was a past issue of payment. I contacted customer support and they stated that their was a "chargeback" which cost them $15.89 plus a $35.00 fee to the credit card company. Therefore they refused to file my return. This was their mistake....not mine. Yet, they retaliated by refusing to file my return. However, they said they would file my return if I agreed to pay them $15.89 PLUS the $35.00 fee the credit card charged them. I was expected to pay them around $50.00 for their mistake. The kicker is they did not let me know this until I attempted to file my return. Subsequently, I missed the filing deadline and will be charged late filing penalties and interest....for THEIR mistake. Don't think so. Adios FreetaxUSA. I will not be responsible for YOUR mistakes. There are MANY MANY better options in my opinion.

I filed my taxes back in April and they were rejected....fixed the error and refiled. My return was accepted and here I am almost 2 months later with no stimulus payment nor my refund. I sent in 8 emails and got a reply from Zendesk in India with some nonsense reply. I asked for a manager to email me and she told me she
She's been working for the IRS for 20 years and once it's accepted it's no longer her issue contact the IRS. She then went deep into my private file and told me that she saw didn't care if I reported them to the BBB because she's confident in her company and her 20 years at the IRS....this company is run by the government or good" friends" of the IRS. They track what you submit even though I did my own taxes they spy on you. And have all of your information. I seriously hate this company use h & r block instead they have real CPA and an accuracy filter guarantee. Online scam business. Government bullies

Tax person got Covid, went to a second person and those taxes would have sent me to jail. Decide to do them myself, yeah like 13hours. In between the IRS website and FreeTax customer service, I was able to muster through. I also learned alot. I do respect Tax people, because its cumbersome detailed work. If a person has stocks, you also have the option of "summarizing (totaling 1099-B)" so you don't have to list each and every stock since there's no import as of yet. Overall, I was pleased with site and the expediency of their knowledgable, detailed customer service. Will be using them next year. Because the tax people ala-cart you on the forms, you save quite a few bucks. I needed Sch- C, D, 1, 8949 and State. 14.99, can't beat that, easily would have cost me 450.00. I won!!!

The company advertises "File advanced and simple federal taxes for free". Might be great for simple returns but definitely not for advanced: it cannot import information from brokers. That makes it totally useless if you trade stocks and get dividends: try to enter all this info by hand. Better spend $100 and save many hours. Also, because it's only online app - you cannot use it for modeling your taxes: how much to withdraw from retirement accounts, what to sell, etc.

I went through the whole process this year with both TurboTax and FreeTaxUSA to see the difference. Turbo tax is easier to understand for the most part, and found me about $60 more to deduct, but since I'm self employeed and operate in several different states the tax prep fee was almost $300. FreeTaxUSA takes a bit of careful reading, but ended up at almost the same result and the tax prep fee was around $50, even with the add-on for amendments just in case. Worth it for me. If I get audited or something I'll update this, but right now this seems like a good deal.

Used their services for filing income taxes for federal and state. I used the website every year for about 6 years. Was good and easy for me.
The problem arose when I filed for 2019 1040 forms at the end of January. I filled out the forms, as usual, and got the amount that was due back to me. I entered my debit account information to pay for the service, as usual. Everything done with, I thought. Over 2 months later, I received emails (3) stating I owed $14 for services and it would be deducted from my bank account. I kept sending messages saying it was done in January and received my return in 2 weeks time.
The company and the employees who run the business of accounting should have the info at their fingertips and the tools to use them. A few minutes to fix, but lack the initiative.

Used since 2007 or 2008. Can't remember.
Saves tax info for at least several years.
Does most self proprietor and small business calculations I've ever needed. When ride-sharing was still quite new, it had one or two quirks but successful filing.
Once in a great while, on some odd entries, the software doesn't give concise enough information to make a confident decision or choice, or elaborates with enough of a varied explanation.
Recently, with the virus stimulus payment, a rapidly evolving issue I understand, they did put up a shortcut quickly, to file to just send direct deposit information for otherwise non filers or SSI recipients.
So far, for free federal filing, it's the best full software application out there, that it's worth the $12-13 for State filing. In fact, do a search on Bing or Google for 'coupon code for Freetaxusa' and you'll get a valid 10-15% off state filing.
