Horrible company, do not fulfill warranty obligations.

I purchased my spot tracker in 2015 used it for 2 years and then canceled service. today I get an email saying renewal is set for 12/24/19 I luckily still have the same computer and can log into my account to find they have been billing me ever since day one even after it was canceled to the theft of $405.59 from me , they said the account was not closed. so beware of this bunch the tracker worked fine as when I was using it but they will not accept email to cancel service, only by phone so you have no record of it.

I read the top 10 bad reviews and have to agree with most of what they said. I have not had the billing experiences yet, but I have had the bad service issue. I just got back from 28 days in Europe and all of the spots that I sent in Paris, Barcelona, Ibiza, Formentera, Casablanca and Marrakesh never showed up or were received by my recipients I just called them today and asked the question "If it cannot handle a simple check in message how am I supposed to have confidence that it will send out an SOS if I was really in trouble?" The gentlemen didn't answer until I asked to speak to someone that could answer my question. Then he assured me that SOS messages take precedence. That must be one smart satellite to be able to tell the difference. In the end he offered $50 off next years bad service.Run from this company.

WARNING!!! WARNING!!! WARNING!!!
This company prides itself on providing a satellite GPS location service ––– ABSOLUTELY NOT TRUE!!!
- Their application completely sucks and looks like from the 1990s, extremely tedious to use, crashes, etc.
- The device does not work as expected. Signals are received late, oftentimes not received, it stops working randomly, sometimes it stops working at all.
- Email alerts also don't work well, sometimes the device moves but you won't receive emails, sometimes you won't receive emails for days.
- Extreme tracking option that allows you to receive signals every 2.5 minutes, for which you can pay an extra plus, doesn't work either. The intervals are NOT respected so paying for that is throwing your money away (even paying for the normal service is throwing your money away considering it DOES NOT work).
Altogether, this means that the service they promise simply is NOT delivered.
You CANNOT trust your assets to such a shabby company because when most you need it (when your stuff gets stolen), chances are the system won't be working.
Facing such a situation, you'll want to to email tech support to fix these issues, but these issues won't be fixed simply because their service is defective, so they'll just give you copy paste answers that lead nowhere.
Eventually, you'll want to make a claim for a refund, but then they'll simply deny it and stop replying to your emails. Which means that you'll have paid a bunch of money for NOTHING.
Therefore, my conclusion is that this is simply a SCAM.
This company offers a service that they are unable to provide, and when you try to make a claim, they just won't reply to you and keep your money.
If you are looking for a working satellite GPS tracker, DO NOT go for SpotTrace, because you won't get what you're looking for and your money will be wasted. Worse than wasted, it will go into the hands of bad hombres who will keep on scamming other people after you.
I vehemently disencourage ANYONE from purchasing their goods and services... look for other options, it will save you money and a ton of headaches.
Not exaggerating: DO NOT trust your assets to this company and product: GlobalStar's Spot Trace.
*MESSAGE TO THOSE HAVING ALREADY PURCHASED THEIR GOODS/SERVICES:*
If you are in the same situation as I am, I encourage you to please do the following:
- Make a claim on Amazon or wherever you purchased the SpotTrace device, even if you are outside of warranty period, telling them the truth: the device DOES NOT WORK. In exceptional occasions, such as for scam companies like this, Amazon is able to refund you the money for the device.
- Also, make a claim with your credit card provider so they cancel the subscription and refund you the money. This is the only way since once you've purchased their defective goods/services, since the company won't reply to your emails and won't allow you to cancel the subscription.
- Finally, REMOVE YOUR BILLING DETAILS from their website, because I have seen cases where people has been charged for a second subscription term even though the service was not being provided and they had already complained to the company.
If many of us do so, Amazon will remove this shabby product from their website and stop misleading decent people from buying it, and the credit card companies will accept the claims for reimbursement of yearly subscriptions, since they'll realize this company is NOT delivering the services they promise.
Thanks everyone for reading this!
But please, don't take my review for granted: do yourself a quick Google Search about this company to verify what I just wrote.
For instance, I encourage you to look at the score these crooks have at multiple Amazon websites:
Amazon.de = 61% gave 1 or 2 stars
Amazon.com = 40% gave 1 or 2 stars
Amazon.es = 76% gave 1 or 2 stars
And that's taking into consideration that, given their fraudulent nature, they are probably trying to pump their star rating on sites like Amazon.
But even so, they can't beat the extreme discontent from decent people who bought their products and felt cheated, scammed, ripped off, mistreated, laughed at, and outright INSULTED by their lack of professionalism and outright scam.
How this is company even allowed to continue selling their products on websites like Amazon, or how are they allowed to bill their services through well-known platforms like MasterCard or VISA, is absolutely beyond my understanding.
If you've also been scammed, please, do your claims on Amazon, do your claims with your credit card supplier, and POST YOUR EXPERIENCES online, so hopefully we'll be able to recover our scammed money and we'll disencourage future users from being scammed as well.
Absolutely scam. They will make you to pay the activation fee and next will deactivate the device just because they changed the plan and make you to pay the activation fee once more time. The support is terrible and not available most of time at all

They have been overcharging me for years :( I am the owner of a SPOT3. Luckily I have never had to test it's abilities but we keep it with us on all our adventures. Now that we have 2 small children I have begun paying closer attention to make sure our subscription does not lapse. This year we were charged almost $250 for the year long BASIC subscription. I looked back at the 5 years we have owned it and realized that we have been OVERCHARGED every year... with the price progressively getting higher. We paid $247 last year :( as well.
I have a feeling I am not the only one who has experienced this. Is there any legal course we can take? I called today and the customer service agent was actually very helpful and was able to credit back to my credit card the extra money I paid but was not able to give ANY explanation to why I have been charged so much more than the advertised price for years. I am honesty embarrassed that I did not catch it sooner but is there anything I can do at this point?
In theory we should NEVER have to test the rescuing abilities of this device BUT we do have to pay for the service every year...what faith I had in the system has diminished significantly.

STAY AWAY from this company!
Their device "Spot GPS" does not work most of the time. We've tested it.
Despite cancelling my subscription over a year ago, they did the following:
1) Billed my credit card
2) Charged an even higher amount
3) Never sent any notification
4) Never sent any receipt
5) Customer service was slow, they lied, they attempted to gaslight me, and finally begrudgingly refunded my money weeks later ONLY after I reported them for FRAUD to my credit card company.
THere are better products out there.

Fraudulent billing policy! Basic subscription plan started at 100 euros per year, billed to a credit card (so you're unaware that there's a Direct Debit in place) then without your consent, auto-renews at 239 euros pa without any communication or notification.
There is no way to cancel the service plan on their website. All contact forms lead to a phone number in Ireland, which takes 20 minutes to respond. Then the american operator offered me a $60 discounts as an incentive not to cancel.
I don't trust that they have cancelled my subscription and will be cancelling my credit card just to be sure.

Please do not use Spot, it is a scam. It is impossible to get out of the contract. You will have to change your credit card number.

Would not recommend. You will be locked into a 1 year minimum contract at $21 per month. NOT WORTH IT!!!

The bad reviews are true. It is a shame that a decent enough product is run by a scammer service. When I got them on the phone, they were all hard sell to keep me from cancelling. They should certainly have Auto-Renewal yes/no as a check box on their website, as ALL reputable companies do. I am still on the phone call. They keep putting me on hold, i assume hoping that I will hang up. If they keep me on the line long enough, i might have time to find a lawyer and sue them while I wait...

These thieves billed my credit card without my permission. Their business practices are disgusting. Buyer be VERY aware. If you are looking for a tracker - go check out Garmin Inreach - Good product and honest customer service,
(Update - I have spoken with their customer service group and they have agreed to reimburse my CC account within 14 days. If this happens I will delete this post and revise my assessment. It remains a terrible practice to suck people into automatic renewals,)

Good luck cancelling SPOT! I'm going to have to cancel my credit card number they won't quit billing and I've turned them in to the Utah Dept of Commerce. RUN NOW!!!! This company is a huge rip off.

The product is fantastic but they will lock you into annual renewals, they lie about notifying about renewals - and then increase the renewal rate without notification. Then they don't really answer emails about it all unless you get really aggressive and point out your rights.
Cancelled and will never ever use Spot again. There are alternatives, find them and use other companies. This one is, as other reviews suggest, acting in seriously bad ways by increasing subscription rates and auto-renewing without any notifications and warning. Did eventually get a refund or this review would've been 1 star!

Only way to cancel their service is to cancel your credit card or try to block their charges. You will never be able to get through to someone to cancel the service and you can't cancel online.

The SPOT tracker is a good product, but the Company is a scam. After using their product in the mountains to track my progress, I tried to cancel my annual SPOT software subscription. They were almost impossible to contact and would not answer their phone. I finally found a way to email them to cancel my software subscription. However, they continued to charge my credit card for the next two years until I had my credit card company delist them. I discovered later that SPOT dutifully created an invoice each year and attached it to my account on their website, but they never sent me a copy even though they had all of my contact information. My advice - do not buy a SPOT tracker... find a better company with a similar product.

AVOID! Customer service is a 3rd-party company that THREATENS you with payments. Do not use SPOT because their customer service is TERRIBLE and they will continue to attempt to charge you year after year.
I canceled back in 2017 and now it's Dec. 2018 they still are attempting to renew my subscription even though I do not even use the device (I threw it out) and canceled in the previous year via phone.
SPOT customer service is APPAULING. AVOID! They will try to make you jump through hoops and transfer you to different departments to attempt to keep your account open. I'm filing a dispute with my credit card company.

Warning number 2! I will start by saying I purchased a Spot Trace to keep an eye on a boat, the system worked very well, however, if you want to stop service you can't do it online. You have to wait , wait and wait on the line.
At this time the line cut. They say they have received my email regarding me not paying for a service I do not use for years..
They did call me back and made an exception and cancel my account. Thanks for this !

What a piece of human waste, company. I paid for one on 4 March 2019 by phone. They processed the payment and emailed me this activity. Three days later..... could not provide a tracking number, because nobody was there in shipping on a Wednesday afternoon. Then, later the same day, I called again, and they acted like they were from India and we had a bad connection..... well something is about to come your way.

DO NOT PURCHASE ANYTHING FROM SPOT. They knowingly and purposefully engage in dishonest billing practices. They employ what is known as a "Evergreen Clause" and make it *very difficult* to cancel their subscription services. You will be sorry if you do business with these SOBs..!!

Warning! I will start by saying I purchased a Spot Trace to keep an eye on a boat, the system worked very well, however, if you want to stop service you can't do it online, you can signup online but if you go into their system to remove your card info it can't be done. They auto-renewed my account, 1st year $99 2nd year $106, then a HUGE jump to $165 then to $175 with no notice. When I called to find out what's going on with my account and to cancel service which I had tried to do online last year I was told I could cancel but wouldn't get a refund as I had already been billed! W-T-F! After going around with customer service and stating they have a shady business practice I was offered a $50 refund, I pushed back with a threat to dispute the charge with my credit card they offered my a prorated amount and refunded 10 months of service. Stay of top of the cost of service.

Not sure where to start on this one. My husband purchased a Spot for his father to help us all feel better about trips he would do alone. The Spot was purchased on my husband's credit card (seeing as he purchased as a gift). The first year was set up on his credit card (as part of his gift to his father) and he was led to believe during the setup of all of this, that after the first year, his card would not be billed again. However, after billing for the second year was charged to his card, he immediately called (assuming it was just a record keeping error) and asked to have it refunded. They would not issue a refund and did not seem to have record of him only wanting to sign up for one year. At this point, he wanted his credit card removed from the account, which they would not do, despite it being under his name because the account was setup under his father's name. Since they would not issue a refund or remove his card information, he spoke with his father and they decided to cancel the account entirely (his father figured he could re-open the account if he took another big trip in the backcountry, assuming that like with most companies, they would not hold on to his son's card information after the account was cancelled). They both got on the call and after much effort, were told the account had been cancelled and that no more billing should occur. Fast forward another year, and the charge appears on my husbands card AGAIN. Repeat the last few sentences above and finally he was told he would get a refund for the most recent charge. Well, he waited, and waited and the refund did not appear. He called again about two months later, speaking with a Flavia (probably not her real name, but whoever she is I imagine working front line customer support for a company that is crooked cant be enjoyable, we hope she find a more honorable company to work) who wanted to put him through the same hoops he had previously gone through. Despite asking repeatedly to speak with a supervisor, being cut off repeatedly mid-sentence and Flavia not seeming to have access to any records from previous calls, my husband was finally told he would get a call back about all this from someone who could help figure it out. We are not holding our breathe and will likely have to cancel the card in order to prevent this from happening again. Poor customer service aside, this company appears to be quite crooked and deceitful. This seems to be the case based on many reviews. So lesson learned for us in the future, read more reviews and be open to paying a little more up front from companies that trend toward honesty and integrity!!!

I was with the for two years and then cancelled as I was no longer going off-road alone. 7 months later I was taking a 1 week trip alone. So I called and asked if they offered less than an annual contract just for my trip. I was told the best they could do was monthly so I told them to activate me for the month then. I called at the end of the month to cancel and was told that they could cancel but I would be charged for the rest of the year. I explained that this is not what I asked for and there must be a mistake. Adam (a supervisor) basically called me a liar and said I talked to no-one there and they couldn't renew over the phone. He said I would have had to go online and renewed for the year. Why would I do that for a 1 week trip? And why would I have marked my calendar to call and cancel? Dishonest company and will not do business with again. Go with Garmin!!!
