Bad Business Practices: Twice I've had very negative experiences with Experts Exchange due to their business practices. Each time I felt they stole from me. The first time I knew I was a member. The second time I did not.
Each time they told me they have a STRICT policy of no refunds.
Although you may get great support from the many Experts Exchange users, keep your hand on your wallet and know what you are signing up for.

I would give the zero stars if possible
Subscribed for 7 days trial to see if the things I'm interested in are available. After 3-4 days, I went to Cancelation link. And here is the caveat. When you click Cancel subscription, you think the cancelation should be canceled. Well guess again, you need to fill the feedback BEFORE the cancelation, otherwise the cancelation is not complete, ending with next charge. Even though the support agent confirmed that I have started cancelation, they have refused refund.
Also, NOTHING you can already find on Stack Overflow is there anyway, on some topics even less.
Good ridance and they will never see me again

Won't refund even though I never used the platform. Signed up then forgot to cancel within free trial period. My bad I know.
They charged 50 GBP for 2 months and didn't budge on even a partial refund. I never asked a question, or even found a useful one related to my field of work. Plain impersonal answer to a polite request : sorry unable to refund. Thanks E-E!

This is not a dangerous website. Its superior information provided for a fee. That you might put together from a slew of free/opinion sites and blogs.
Its not a scam because they straight up ask for money to see the full thread and participate in the community. Their website passes the established web url security scanning site. Their SSL cert is not expired and from a recognized authoritative CA. Etc. etc.

CAUTION: DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!
was just shopping for self-study site and thought I was just getting a sample preview. somehow I was signed up for auto renew- imagine that- and even though I did not want it I had to pay for it. UDEMY is infinitely better- really cheap and once you buy they don't keep charging you for nothing. I did not go back to this site because I did not like their course. I just completed 3
UDEMY courses and feel like I really learned something. Experts Exchange is a waste of time and money

PLEASE REMOVGE URGENTLY THIS SITE FROM THE DANGEROUS LIST.
We are dealing with the question on wether a site is dangerous or not. We are not dealing with the question "is this usefull".
THIS SITE IS NOT FREE BUT THIS IS NOT A FRAUD
Please stop it. Look the comments and you will see that all comments ar not dealing with security issue, but only with the fact that this is not a free site.
In such obvious rating error still occur you will lose a user.
Such error is not acceptable. Now anybody can rate as a fraud any safe site just because he doesn't find it useful, or because it's not free.

Experts-exchange is NOT unsafe!! Many of the reviews of this site state that you have to pay to post a question. That is not true. I have been using it for a long time and just posted a question for free. Do they try to upsell you to the Premium access? Of course they do because they are in business to make money. But many websites and services do that. Many reviewers have said EE has the same info that is available for free at other sites. Yeah, it's free if you want to slog through 10 pages of blah blah to finally come to the answer. At EE real experts collaborate with you to find the answer. I have received MANY valuable .vbs and PowerShell scripts to do tasks as an IT tech. At least remove the Unsafe rating because it is dead wrong.

NOT A SCAM!! Seriously folks you're being a little harsh here. Child safety 75/100? Yes, they mislead you into thinking that you have to sign up for a pay service to get the answer to your question...but guess what, genius? IF YOU SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PAGE IT GIVES YOU ALL OF THE ANSWERS FOR FREE. You don't even have to click off of the page that the search result takes you to. Done. That's how they are able to stay indexed on Google.
I can honestly say that 4/5 times that I actually read an answer from EE it is the answer that I am looking for. Try that with Yahoo Answers. Suspicious? Maybe. Poor customer experience? Yes. Spam? Another maybe. Scam? Absolutely not! Thank you though for watering down another term so that we can use it to describe any circumstance that hoots aw feewings and makes aw tummies feew ikky.
And thank you for giving it a low child safety score, so now I can ignore that score when I'm evaluating a site that may truly be unsafe for my children.
Also, download NoScript and the site works perfectly without the goofy fake blurred out top answer and ads. Look at that, I just transformed the way you browse the entire Internet. You're welcome.
3 stars for poor, misleading "customer" experience.

The security reputation is undeserved. It's a legitimate site. It's expensive, sure, but it's not a scam.

I've been deeply involved with Experts Exchange for nearly 10 yrs now. I've never received any money from them and I have to say as a professional programmer, when no amount of googling uncovers a solution to a database or programming snag, this is the place I go. And I've never been disappointed!
I've never received spam from them, and I can attest to the fact that this site is totally legal (I've been to their HQ and met the leadership team).
You can get an industry expert (some of whom have decades of experience) in a face-to-face, real-time chat to help you. That's got to be worth charging something for. Please don't mislead others by suggesting that this is a dangerous site.
If you don't want to pay for a higher level of technical advice, that's fine, don't pay. I may want an expensive beverage for free (I mean..tap water is free) but it's wrong if I were to publicly trash them because they won't give me a high-protein breakfast smoothy just because I demand it.

I'm astounded by all the negative reviews of experts-exchange. It is very clear on what it is (or at least it used to be). It is a member-driven question-and-answer site where you either have to contribute answers or pay in order to ask questions (once you reach a certain number of points of answers given, you are free forever). If you have to subscribe or answer questions to see other people's answers then that is new (or at least newer than when I got enough points that I am free forever).

Beware of company's rogue trading policies.
When I called to cancel the subscription down a couple of years ago as I wasn't ever getting solutions to my questions, I was offered a special half price discount for 2 years to continue. Now they have collected a full subscription value as auto renewal which is actually 50% higher than even their current rack rate as confirmed by the call attendant. They wouldn't refund the subscription although I called as soon as I noticed the charge (i.e within 3 working days of hitting my credit card) Auto renewal was not discussed as non refundable at the time when I had initially called to cancel 2 years ago as they had actually refunded the payment taken at the time of that call and then charged the new lower rate.
These are rogue trading standards based on misrepresentation and deception.
The service is a bit of a joke to begin with. The admins keep closing questions down even if there are no solutions.

I joined Experts Exchange in 2009 and have been an active participant ever since then. Experts Exchange continues to grow and change with its mission.
Experts Exchange houses a wealth of information. I have never not been able to find an answer to any technical question I have posed. As a frequent contributor, I have found that I have been forced to think more in depth about every topic I encounter. Reading the content on Experts Exchange as well as answering questions is a continual learning experience.

I joined Experts Exchange (EE) in 2010 and found that, like every company starting out, things were lacking. However, each year they slowly pulled talent into their ranks, and let those professionals turn a clunky interface into a clean, modern, and beautiful one. As an Apple professional, I appreciate simplistic modern design because it makes for joining groups, navigating the site and talking to other tech people that much easier. In addition, EE has added so much information (videos, articles, online classes, gigs, website tools, website bug testing, headlines, quick posts) to their site, that I find myself spending hours soaking up as much info as I can. All in all, it's worth the price to collaborate with some of the best minds in tech, and receive answers to those complex and challenging questions that you just can't solve by yourself.
Lastly, if you're just a fun-loving tech person like me, you'll enjoy the friendly atmosphere and awards (certs, badges, t-shirts) that you get for helping others learn (you can write articles or make classes). It's also cool that EE gives you a profile page that keeps track of all the helpful stuff you do (answer questions, write articles, etc...), which can be extremely convenient when you need to show your track record to future employers.

EE is my favorite knowledge repository on the web for both breadth and depth of expertise for anything related to the digital realm. Plus, it's nice to see the company keeping up with the pace of the digital era by encouraging networking, enabling real-time support, and constantly optimizing the functionality of the site. I'm not saying it's perfect, but they try and it shows. That's the most we can ask of ourselves too, right? ;)
You're going to get trolls sometimes, as with anything in life, but the Mods and Admins do a nice job at handling them or privately discussing the matters with you to resolve it politely. Do your best to ignore and flag them.
And even if you don't participate as a question-asker or answer-giver, it's just a wonderful knowledge base that's easy and fun to use.

I read Ed Bott's Dear Google: Please take pay sites out of search results, I was pleased to see that I am not the only person who has been frustrated with finding
that the search results link led to the Experts Exchange. I have always thought that the site is a sad joke. Why? Because they tickle the search engines with the right information to show up fairly high in the search results.
The new Experts Exchange: no experts, no answers, tons of spam, tons of ads. One word for it all: FAIL !
Annoying access violation in rtl70.bpl

I really love Experts-Exchange: I'm member from 2010 and I find this membership a tremendously effective way not only to share my knowledge but even and overall to increase it and improve my programming skills. And when I asked a question, I always found helpful people which gave me their suggestion even when the actual problem was solved and the thread closed. Because of this, Experts-Exchange is not only the best place to find solutions but a good place to find friends too, and to discuss technlogy related arguments with true skilled professionals.

NOT A SCAM. This is an IT support forum.
Asking a question requires a paid subscription.
Answering is free and earns points redeemable for a subscription.
Source: I answer IT questions on that site. It works if you understand it.
