Awful experience with Europcar in France. Firstly they charged me for 10 days rental despite only renting the car for 7 days. Then they charged me £479 for a scuffed hub cap. I challenged them 3 times but they had taken my money from my account and weren't giving it back. I think their business practices are disgusting. The worst I've ever come across. I will never use them again.

DO NOT USE EUROPCAR!
I was charged just under £1000 by Europcar for damage caused by a road traffic accident that the other driver's fault!
The other driver hit me from behind at a roundabout, he admitted fault immediately and we exchanged the relevant insurance details. It was a very clear cut case where the other driver was happy for his own insurance company to pay the damage.
I explained all of this to the Europcar Limoges staff when I dropped off the car and they explained they would initially have to take it out of my deposit, but would reimburse me as soon as the other driver's insurance company paid. It has been about 6 weeks now, and I have not been reimbursed or formally charged by Europcar France. I have contacted Europcar UK and they have stated it is up to Europcar France to sort this out, however managed to send me an invoice and a copy of the accident report which very clearly described the fault as being the other drivers and states all of his insurance details. I have attempted to contact Europcar France extensively, but they have been ignoring all of my attempts! So now I'm down almost £1000, when they could quite quickly sort this out at their end and not be out of pocket.
Also, the damage to my car would definitely have cost a lot less than £973 to fix!

Honestly do not use this company, unless you want to be robbed and highly insulted with poor customer service. First off on collection of the hired car, there was no availability of the car we ordered on the Europcar website, and no reimbursement of the money spent on the hired car for 10 working days. This meant we was cornered into downgrading to a car we did not initially order bearing in mind the car we was supposed to hire was a 7 seater and we got palmed off with a small 5 seated hatchback, there was no apology for this, only rudeness and ignorance.
Furthermore when collecting car from the pick up point, the guy who is supposed to check the car over for damage failed to do so, luckily enough we checked damage ourselves to find scratches and the car was very dirty on the outside with bird muck. Off we went in the car and then on returning, the guy went to the boot of the car first off which all seemed very planned, and reported boot cover missing. The boot cover was not inside the car in collection & we just thought maybe this car didn’t have one, the guy was very abrupt & used foul language when we disputed this problem. We then asked kindly could we communicate with customer services regarding this issue, he said we could use the company phone, and then changed his mind and refused. He was very dismissive & left the office unattended, drove away from us with no further communication. I am disgusted and appalled with this behaviour and will never use Europcar again.

We had a booking though AutoEurope with Europecar from Paris BEAUVAIS TILLE AIRPORT.
When we reached the desk the lady gave us the keys and the parking slot umber. She confirmed that the booking was fully paid with full insurance and she only need to put a hold on our card for 300 euros.
When we reached to the car we realised that it was a Mercedes Class V and not Citroen C4 Grand Picasso (7 seater). We were not told about any upgrade or any extra charges. Even at the time of Return we were not told anything.
There was no charge mentioned or card swiped at the time of booking which is the common practice. Suddenly after 3 days after returning back home, a debit has come to my card for 472.3 Euros without any email or intimation.
This is totally unacceptable and we feel cheated. Such un professional conduct from an international company is very unfortunate. When I contacted AutoEurope they got me a copy of the contract which had my signature and could not help me further as they state that the contract is with Europecar.
Even though there is contract that is signed by me I would like to bring to your attention
a) The staff at the counter never did mention that the car was being upgraded and there was any additional amount that is payable. Infact, I was told that the same is fully paid and they only had to take a hold of the security deposit.
b) There was no debit taken at the time of taking the car. If at all it was at all an upgrade why was the amount not taken then. The debit to my card was done post a couple of days after returning the vehicle when i reached back to my country.
c) The contract that was presented was in French. Only a couple of narrations were in English. Is it not your duty to clearly highlight what is being charged and for what purpose?
d) The amount debited to me also is much more than the voucher. I have been charged a total of EUR 1026.1 (553.80 + 472.3), the invoice has an amount of EUR 875.60.
Given that Europecar have a good reputation in the industry, I did not expect to be 'conned' by a staff, taking advantage of a tied passenger (10:30 p.m.) travelling with his family (old mother and 2 kids), who does not know French.

Absolutely disgusting company, with no ethics. Rented a car in Nantes airport, took photos as proof of the car when it was given to us. On return they insisted we damaged the car despite our photos to prove otherwise. As soon as we arrived the staff member made a beeline for the part of the car with the previous damage. It’s the ONLY place he even looked at. We were then accused of causing the damage as he said the paperwork said the damage wasn’t there when we were given the car. Arguing ensued as he told us we would have to pay for the damage, that we did not cause. After 20 mins of arguing back and forth he FINALLY admitted it said on the computer system the car was damaged before we received it.
DO NOT HIRE FROM THIS COMPANY. If you HAVE to make sure you take photos of all angles of the vehicle before you leave.
Strongly believe this is a ploy and a con to create more revenue for themselves. DISGUSTING.

If I could leave no stars, I would. Completely tarnished the holiday by ripping us off. Charged an extra 3 days everything which we didn’t have. Refusing to accept email from EasyJet to say we flew back to the UK on the date we returned the car, yet apparently they neither called nor emailed us to find out where the car was for those extra 3 days they say we had it. Complete fraudsters. Do not use this company. They do not know the meaning of customer service, and even charge premium rates for their phone calls. I do not expect to be refunded because it is a scam and how they make extra money. Check the “Community “ comments on their Facebook page. I am far from alone.

Beware, if you need to make any adjustments to your reservation, better not do it online. I learned the hard way. Had convertible reserved for 2 months to be picked up at Avignon train station, went online to update pick up and drop off times because it says in the contract if you don't pick up/drop off on time you will be charged 95 euros or full booking price. Once i adjusted the times, the system subsequently canceled my original reservation and created new one, which all seemed ok since all the information was the same (car, dates, pick up/drop off location). That is until i received an email saying that my reservation cannot be confirmed because the car is not available. WTH?? I had that car reserved for 2 months!! Spend next two days calling all the customer service numbers i could find, spending money on international calls. London customer service seemed to be the most helpful one, but even they couldn't get through to the agency in France to try and fix the situation. No one answers the phone there ever and there is no direct email to try and get in touch with the train station branch. BTW, sent 2 email inquiries online as well through the website, no response to either one. London customer service told me that this is not the first time they see it. Train station branch most likely didn't have the car in their possession and would've had to source it from somewhere else (makes me wonder if i would've had the car on arrival at all if i didn't make any adjustments to the reservation), so when i updated the reservation and the original one got canceled, they took it as an opportunity to get out of the arrangement. There was zero warning online that that could happen and didn't really cross my mind because it seems so ludicrous. After all that i had to reserve a car elsewhere and since it is now so close to my travel date finding the convertible was impossible. Conclusion: would not recommend.

Rented an automatic compact from Europcar CDG through Auto Europe. Miscalculated the delay after landing (and early arrival possibility) for car pickup time-they made us wait 1 1/4 hrs. since I reserved pickup time for 11:00 a.m. and got to the counter at 9:50. They tried in the meantime twice (when I kept checking on arrival of our car) to rent me a more expensive car. They also said my $0 deductible insurance through Auto Europe was not their insurance and if damage occurs, they'd charge for damage and I'd have to get reimbursement from Auto Europe. When finally got the car (engine was cold, so likely there the whole time), had to search out employee to note damage not listed on rental form. Started the car, gauge said full, drove 1/2 mile in the airport and gauge went down to 11/12 (one bar disappeared). Didn't damage the car, they didn't note any when I returned it, but that is a small consolation. HEED THE MULTIPLE BAD REVIEWS !!!!

I am a frequent user of car hire at Nice airport. I have used most of them but I find Europcar the best and most consistent. The cars are very high quality and the staff are very helpful. Their office is easy to find. I buy excess Insurance online and there is no problem with this. The return is easy however watch out for teh entrance to the Car Returns as the signposts mean you will miss the entrance which is on your left but the sign post says straight on. My only issue is that I found that I had to queue to collect the car.

I have been charged £1500 for an accident that was clearly not my fault. Filling up the car at a petrol station (to return it full) on the way back to the airport, was hit by a car with a caravan which damaged the front of the hire car.
Driver admitted full liability and I took their insurance details and completed the accident report. Dropped car off at the airport, they said it would be no problem as they claim from the at-fault party. I was charged £1500 a few days later with no explanation.
2 months later and repeated calls and emails to Customer Services go unanswered. I cannot even claim on my hire car excess insurance as they will not send me a Damage Report with costings.
Avoid, avoid, avoid.

Disgusting treatment. We had an accident and ended up stranded in remote location. 3 children with no food. Accident occurred on Saturday. Relied on Good Samaritan to drive me to holiday home. Was told by roadside assistance that Europ car cannot help until Monday!!! Monday has come and not a single call is being answered. Nobody will help. Nobody cares. It’s scary and unbelievable that they can wash their hands of you and provide literally no support or even options of what to do after an accident when you are in a country where you cannot speak the language. Have now found taxi company to help us through our last days. Every single Europcar staff let us down from live chat through to anyone we were able to contact who would put us through to the same answer phone service that ended up as a dead end. Cannot believe how many others have had horrendous experiences.

I rented a car for friends, paying for the rental and extra insurance online. The invoice indicated 0 euros due. When my friends arrived at Charles de Gaulle airport, they were required to sign a form that included an extra 220.01 euros. They did not know why there was an extra charge but weren't allowed to take the car until they signed it. Now Europcar says it's for upgraded insurance which was neither needed nor wanted and WILL NOT refund the money - because my friends signed the form. Europcar is simply scamming tourists and making them pay extra for things they don't want or need. STAY AWAY from Eurpocar!!!!!

I am having a terrible time trying to get money back from Europcar. Just wondering if anyone has a similar experience and if they could offer any help. I booked a car directly with Europcar and picked it up in Bordeaux on the 19th July 2019. On picking up the car we were advised to upgrade to a bigger car at a cost of €15.00 per day as we had 4 bags and was told by the customer service representative that the car I had booked would not fit all the bags. I since discovered this is just an upselling game which we fell for. AS per our contract, I had paid the full amount for the car when I booked on line and we were aware as per the contract that a €300.00 deposit would be put on hold on our credit card when we picked up the car. However, the full €300.00 was actually deducted from my card and the extra €165.00 for the upgrade when we picked up the car at the airport. We returned the car full fuel and undamaged and enquired about the return of the €300.00. We were told it would take 24-48 hours for this to happen. When this time passed, I rang the Europcar at the airport and was told it could take upto 7 days. When I asked who had given permission to deduct €300 as this was a breach of the contract, the gentleman I was speaking to hung up the phone. A week later a further €165.00 was deducted from my credit card. I have sent numerous email but nobody is returning any of my emails. I am now owed €465.00 and it is 16 days later and still no closer to getting the return of the money I am owed. Such as bad experience, I most definitely will not be using Europcar again

DO NOT USE EUROPCAR UNLESS YOU ARE HAPPY TO BE ROBBED. I USED EUROPCAR NICE FOR A VERY SHORT RENTAL (APPROX 7 HOURS) I DROVE 230KMS ALMOST ALL ON MOTORWAY AND RETURNED THE CAR THE SAME DAY. ON COLLECTION I DID NOT SIGN THE AGREEMENT WITH REFERENCE TO EXISTING DAMAGE (NOT DELIBERATLY BUT THE AGENT DID NOT NOTICE AND NOR DID I) I DROVE FROM EUROPCAR NICE TO A PRIVATE RESISDENCE WHERE IT WAS PARKED IN FULL VIEW, NO OTHER CARS WERE PRESENT CAME OR WENT, I DROVE BACK STOPPING ONLY TO REFILL WITH FUEL. INCREDIBLY THE CAR HAD SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO BOTH FRONT AND REAR BUMBPERS.
WHEN YOU COLLECT FROM THIS LOCATION IT IS DARK, THERE IS VERY LITTLE LIGHTING AND VERY LITTLE ROOM BETWEEN THE CARS SO ZERO CHANCE OF INSPECTING THE CAR PROPERLY. OK SO MY FAULT THERE, BUT WHEN YOU DEAL WITH WHAT YOU THINK IS A REPUTABLE COMPANY IT SHOULDNT BE A PROBLEM, SURELY THEY WOULDNT TRY TO RIP YOU OFF!!!! WRONG !!!!. WHEN YOU RETURNING THE CAR YOU GET SOME OVER ZEALOUS JOBSWORTH ON HER HANDS AND KNEES IN A WELL LIT AREA WITH LOADS OF ROOM LOOKING FOR EVERY SINGLE MINUTE DEFECT. ONE AREA OF "DAMAGE" SHE FOUND I THINK WAS ACTUALLY DIRT. LUCKILY FOR ME I TOOK OUT THE FULL INSURANCE EXPECTING ZERO EXCESS ANYWAY SO I DID DISPUTE THE SO CALLED DAMAGE BUT DIDNT WORRY TOO MUCH ABOUT IT. HOWEVER, WHAT THEY SAY IS ZERO EXCESS ISNT, AS THEY WILL CHARGE YOU A "DAMAGE ADMIN FEE" OK ONLY €60 BUT IF I HADNT TAKEN OUT THE INSURANCE THEY WOULD HAVE HIT MY CARD WITH SEVERAL HUNDRED EUROS FOR RETURNING THE CAR EXACTLY AS I COLLECTED IT. THIEVES !!!! DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY

We rented a car at the Toulouse Airport back in March. We pre-paid for everything, including a full tank of fuel, and returned the car with no problems. Then in late June I got a bill for them for 73 euros with no explanation. I contacted them on their website asking how we possibly owed money--I kept the original agreement and receipt showing that everything was paid in full--and they did not respond. They just sent me the same bill a couple weeks later. I ignored it, as they had not proved to me that I truly owed this money. I just went and checked the mail and have a letter that it has been turned over to a debt collection agency. I went ahead and paid it, as the idea of debt collectors is very upsetting and unsettling, but I will never do business with EuropCar again.

We booked through Advantage Car through Expedia - total $289. Arrived in Dublin to find out Advantage car is now Europcar. They charged me $780 for the week - even after I pointed out the extra insurance I had already attained. They added a day extra to my rental - charging an extra hundred just for that. No one would help rectify the situation. When I returned the car to the lot I was told it needed to be returned someplace different. I was able to convince them - I was close to losing my crap by then - for them to return it wherever they said it needed to go (of course, nothing was marked for the second location. I followed the signs posted.). Expedia was absolutely NO HELP in helping the situation.

I have booked the car via rentalcars website and it was stated that the total cost is AUD438.53. I paid this full amount on 18 November 2018. The booking was for late March Paris pick-up, early April Bordeaux drop-off.
Yet, I was additionally charged by Europcar AUD119.37 on the 2 April 2019, upon the drop-off. At that time I realised that on the contract with Europcar (which is completely in French) there are additional charges of 6 euros for environmental contribution and 79.26 euros for aller-simple (one way?).
I was disputing these charges as I paid the total quoted and requested amount upon booking, at the time I correctly booked for different drop-off location so it was known, should have been included in total cost, and therefore there should be no additional payments of any sort.
When I contacted Europcar requesting that Europcar returns that amount of AUD119.37 back on my credit card account as there should be no additional charges, Europcar responded that at the time of pick-up I signed rental agreement with Europcar which details additional products and the price and therefore they will not refund.
That document that I did sign, first of all, was not signed by any Europcar representative, so if they refer to it as a legal document it is not as it is not signed by both parties.
Secondly, the entire document is in French, which is not the language we understand. At the time of the pick-up we were not advised of any additional charges, not should there be any unless some party changed the booking. Which was not changed, the car was picked up and dropped off at the time and locations as per booking.
Thirdly, this section does not state that those two items are something that we were going to be charged additionally. It is just few lines in French hideen in the middle of the rental agreement.
Finally, whilst the car received on pick up was completely new and good, it was really dirty on the outside resembling a vehicle which was garaged for a while.
Altogether extremely disappointed with Europcar, you will not have many customers returning to you and I certainly hope that this review will help in not having many new customers either.

I rent a car in Annemasse on july for a month. After few days, i got a smal accident with another car on a parking. The other drivers filled all the paper (constat à l'amiable) and recognized that it was entirely his mistake; The dammage on the vehicule was really a few (small impact). I gave all the paper to europacar and they said that even if it was not my fault, i must paid the cost in order to repair the vehicule because i am not the owner of the car. Then, they said (never wrote it) that the insurrance of the other driver will pay back.
My bank account (via my credit card) was debit of 450 euros. after compaining to europacr customer service, no answer at all.
For sure, the will not repair the car and had this small default on the next check in.
Question is: what happedned if the dammages were bigger (let's say 5000 euros to repair? shall i pay?
Scammers, completely. no customer service, no communication.
avoid in order to got problems.

Rented a car via Ryanair, was through Europcar. Would definitely NOT recommend. Found the 'car rentals' quite easily at Toulouse Blagnac airport. The gentleman checking us in said there were 4 people in front of us, told us to sit and wait across the way and that he would call us. I noticed lots of people going through who arrived after us, eventually went up and asked how long it would be, he told me he called my name but we didn't come up, I said we didn't hear our name being called? His reply yes I think there were a lot of kids going by at the time. 45 mins later we were served. Felt cheated by being sold the extra insurance which was really expensive because the insurance we purchased when we hired the car had no break down cover - would have preferred all options at the time of booking. Car was scratched and had lots of dents, but worse stunk quite strongly of smoke!! I complained, they agreed and said they would valet the car - which they did in front of us and mostly consisted of spraying an air freshener which lasted about as long as it took us to drive out the car park. It was an automatic car and the gears were not working properly, It was constantly revving too high, but once we got underway I didn't want to go back, it sounded like I was constantly driving too hard and also meant the fuel consumption was terrible for a small car. Wasn't fun driving in a badly serviced, smelly car!!

Firstly Europcar Gatwick office scammed us to do an upgrade that the Ukrainian girl representative assured us was only a 20 pound cost for the 3 week rental and was a very good deal.
We checked twice and were assured it was a additional charge of 20 pounds for the total rental time (she was very charming! and i am sure she will blame her language skills!)
This cost us 504 pounds when we returned the car in Manchester! Here we found that they were running the insurance scam, saying that there were marks on the wheels that we had done, not true!
I would advise everyone to avoid Europcar if at all possible, as you will be charged twice the quoted price! We have rented cars all over the world in the last 10 years, and i suppose have been lucky not to have been scammed before, Europcar never again

Rented the car with Europcar in Nice (via EasyRent Cars). Europcar option came out cheapest for renting Alfa Romeo Giulietta “or similar”.
1. When went to pick the car our chosen car was not provided and was referred to the clause on advert which says "or similar". However the car provided (cannot remember its name but some sort of Opel) was/and is in no way similar to Alfa Romeo. Looked around at Europcar car park both when picking the car and when dropping it but could not see Alfa Romeo at all so I am sure they lied on advert about having Alfa Romeo in stock at all and were always going to rely on clause "or similar". Extremely dishonest
2. When I arrived at counter with my booking Europcar guy tried very hard to rent me an expensive luxury car instead. The price quoted was 8 times of what I had booked for. (Common sense that I would have booked an expensive car in the first place if I wanted). Pressure tactics like this are very stressful when you have come off a long flight with children early in the early morning.
3. When Europcar were unable to convince me with renting their expensive car, an expensive additional fully comprehensive insurance of nearly double that of the price of rent was charged). I had no option but to accept as excess premium was £1500 without this additional insurance. I had similar experience in the past when you pick the car they find faults with your online comprehensive insurance so I never get a fully comp insurance online and rely on buying it on the day. However the price charged by Europcar was 3 times of what was quoted in the online offer.
4. The car provided consumed much more fuel than a normal compact car and certainly more than Alfa Romeo. Although I had told Europcar beforehand that I will be going lots of miles.
5. As per the contract I was forced to use Fuel type E5 which is more expensive that Fuel type E10. Later on I found out that manufacturer recommends any of E5 or E10 fuels for that car. Again this was dishonest of Europcar
I recommend never to go with Europcar again as in my experience they were dishonest on virtually every count
