They took my money and gave me an unusable pass. It’s cheaper to just buy tickets in advance. Do not use unless you have made sure you have all your tickets way in advance. Terrible customer service.

It's awesome how you shell out nearly 800 dollars for unlimited train travel yet have to still pay for train travel and not even at a discounted price . I can't believe I fell for this scam. Yet another set of people being greedy and taking every dime they can get from people . This has literally ruined my vacation . Thanks for nothing but an incredible bill.

It's not really that of a good deal but just convenient when you are not european, you don't know their train system, it's easier to just get a pass. According to the instruction on the ticket/pass, if you record all the info on the ticket (date of travel, destination...etc), send it back and receive a souvenier from Eurail and we did and send it back(end of April, completed our trip in Europd on April 1st) but never receive any souvenier so far. I emailed them last week, never received any respond either.

I paid $600 for first class Eurail passes for my husband and myself. Eurail did nothing to inform me about booking my train reservations early. A month before my trip I started trying to book my reservations with no success. I tried communicating with Eurail for help, but there was no way to speak to anyone. As a result of this my travel through Europe was less than first class. All the first class routes were sold out. My husband and I had to travel to our designated cities in less than ideal trains and waste a lot of time in the commuter train connections available to us in the shorter windows. I am very unsatisfied with the experience and system.

I haven't had a chance to use my eurail pass yet but my experience with their website is awful. Nothing is intuitive. The questions they answer when you make a query are very general and not useful or specific. You can't phone them and they take two days to email you back a response which is just a link to their questions and answers section of their website. If I could have got the answer from their website, I wouldn't be asking the question to their customer service. I am trying to make reservations on line and I can't even enter my birthdate. For a service that is completely online, it is so unhelpful. I went to a travel agent to buy the eurail pass and they said they hate selling them (in Canada). They have to wait on hold for hours or days for any response. They say everyone knows that they have the worst customer service of any company.

I paid 800 dollars for an Eurail 21 days, "first class" pass, thinking that I would be able to show up at the train stations, show my "fancy, unlimited" pass and hop on a train without having to deal with the intricacies of each train company. How simple.
The reality is the opposite: Eurail passes add a world of red-tape and waiting and uncertainty to your trip. Eurail passes are treated by train companies as a way to offload their last-minute empty seats, and I will tell you, there's rarely any. Basically, you need to show up at the train station on the day of your trip and pray that they still have Eurail spots, which they often won't. So having an Eurail pass makes your trip uncertain -- I went to the train station without knowing if I would get on a train that day or have to find a place to spend another (or many other) nights in that city waiting for a spot.
Eurail says that you can reserve your seats in advance through their app, but that is a big, huge lie. Their app never shows available spots, and even if you reserve something, the train companies don't honor them -- Eurail passes are an ugly child to them.
Even if you are able to get to the train station and there's a seat available on that day, it's rarely financially worth it. First of, train companies will still charge you a fee; I paid between 5 and 40 euros per trip. So, on my 22-day trip through Europe, I visited 6 countries, and spent roughly 1,000 dollars on my pass + train fees. If I had purchased the tickets full-price, through each companies' website, in advance, it would have been less than that, and my trip would have been a lot, A LOT, less stressful.
At the train station I could always tell who was there with an Eurail pass -- their faces always showed a lot of frustration. Agents would smirk when they saw the pass, as if saying, "you sucker".
Don't buy it. Again, don;t buy it.

Bought the global pass for 7 days over 30 day period to try it out. BIG disappointment, especially in France. Limited reservations on high speed trains. Example: Took high speed from Strasbourg to CDG Paris. "No reservations available" according to ticket office. Took the train anyway and paid supplement. I was surprised to see 90% of the seats were empty.
Europe travel by eurail train has become a tremendous headache and expensive due to supplements, seat reservations and ticket office lines. Not to mention searching for various itineraries being complicated by monopolistic train companies and un regulated booking for fee companies. Best to book point to point travel in advance and/or car rental is cheaper despite gas prices and tolls.
Sad to say.

The website was impossible to use, and customer service was very slow (took about a day to respond to each message), and only slightly helpful. The website needs a complete overhaul. The tickets were not worth the aggravation, and we haven't even left for our trip yet.

Very bad, do not use them. We bought a 4 day pass several weeks before our trip. They were going to send the tickets to us via UPS TWO weeks before our trip. The tickets arrived 2 days after we departed. (13 days after the promise date on the receipt) We got to Italy and basically had to repurchase all the tickets that we had previously bought.
I would never use them again, plus there is zero communication with them. It’s almost impossible to get a hold of a real person. All communication is through Facebook or an App.
I basically had to dispute the change with my credit card company to try and get my money back.
To be honest, if traveling from the US, you are much better just buying you ticket (pass) when you get to your departure station in Europe.
Be warned, these guys are horrible in regards to customer service and urgency.

Although the pass is an ok deal, Eurail site is a nightmare to deal with. There have been multiple times where I've been trying to make reservations and just as I am about to pay, the site suddenly stops working, and when I try to check my bookings it goes into a loop of asking me to log in. Overall, it's not worth the headache.

I spent 500 euros on two global passes, one for me and one for my wife, to travel to Spain, France, and Italy this 2019 summer. I had used this pass 10 years ago with no issued and had a very good experience but apparently, things have changed since then. Now you have to ADDITIONALLY book almost all trains which are not regional which means the main lines and routes have an obligatory reservation. The reservations using the Eurail tool or the app SUCKS. I made the exercise and they quoted me to pay 638 ADDITIONAL to the passes I had already bought. I was only traveling for 3 days. DONT BUY THESE PASSES, Eurail reservation system is a mess, the train companies within countries have no communication between them to you end up being able to reserve your trips ONCE you arrive at the country. Even the Eurail customer service had trouble helping me. DONT BUY THESE. It is better to buy the train tickets at every site separately, you have more flexibility and the customer service is on each country train company. Otherwise, they send you to Eurail and Eurail sends you to them and so on...

I have never regretted a purchase more than this. I bought a 10-day, 2-month pass for over $350 USD. It was downhill from there. The company demanded an additional $26 to ship the paper-only option.. They then requested an additional $26 for "pass protection", which I did not purchase, as the company did not make it clear that if the pass is lost or stolen, they will not replace it. Moreover, I am a student with a limited budget. Making reservations is impossible and they request you contact customer support. I'd did contact them, but nobody ever got back to me.
My pass was stolen on my first train ride. The company took over 24 hours to get back to my emergency request, leaving me stranded in London. They refused to assist, took days to message me back, and refused to refund or help me in any way. It cost me over $700 to buy individual train and plane tickets and I had to cancel half of my trip, which I was looking so forward to. Iwas devastated to have to cancel. Honestly, it would have been a better investment to burn the $400 I gave this scam of a company. (Check out the lawsuit where one of their customers was run over by a train and the company refused to rectify her, if you want any further details about how they could care less about their customer.)
Do not use EU Rail: it is an absolute scam. Buying plane tickets a month or so in advance is a much cheaper and safe option.

eurail sucks - After getting back on a train from Cologne back to Brussels a conductor looks at our rail passes and said I did not fill out the right box and voids our 1st class and say and charges us another $300 to get back to Brussels 2nd class
I will never do this again. I would never ever recommend this pass to anyone. You better beleive I am writing some letters when I get home.....in one week we had trains in the UK break down, stranding us in the middle of England and not using our $420 per night London hotel room. On the trip from London to Brugges the Brussels conductors go on strike leaving us stranded in Brussels late at night and cost us a 200 Euro taxi ride to get to our 2nd destination in Brugges and now this. So much for paying for 1st class and then having to pay extra to get a seat reservation.
To add insult to injury this conductor and another I see talking after we are moved to 2nd class and then the 2nd one walks down the isle looks me straight in the eye and laughs at us. It was all I could do not to come out of my seat.
They pray on "stupid Americans" as others have said. It was a simple mistake and they should not have made us pay another 300 euro.
I believe in the old adage that good things happen to good people and bad things happen to bad people.
I hope that they both don't sleep well tonight - they shouldn't....
In retrospect, I realize that the last problem was not caused by Eurail. It was caused by THALYS. The THALYS conductors had a real attitude and it seemed a NEGATIVE BIOS towards Eurail ticket holders.

Been looking forward to reviewing this absolute load of garbage for weeks. Now i'm finally home i can do it. Specifically speaking about the global Eurail pass, it was the absolute worst part about my trip. Anyone who reads this i'd suggest finding another way around, take Flixbus, fly, do literally anything else. It will be guaranteed less costly and stressful.
Their app is possibly the worst and most pointless app i've ever seen in my life. Absolutely pointless. Their customer service, hotline, facebook page, support is non existent, you're on your own.
Won't be making the mistake if i ever got to Europe again.

I am getting no direction! The mailed out packages and web-pages provide unclear/outdated instructions. I am in the process of booking my reservations. The self service is not servicing me. It is not allowing me to book the tickets I need outlined on the ticket reservation portal.
I am anxious and uncertain that I will get to my destination.
I have paid enough for a global pass the very least that I can ask for is clarity and a 24 hour call-in service to assist me when the help is needed.

This is a scam! Seriously. We bought this for my 17 year old and the website is impossible to navigate. He paid a fortune for reservations on top of the hefty railcard price, and we bought the Rail Pass protection. Their 'simple' process to use that service is a total joke. My son had everything stolen in Italy. It was horrible and traumatic. But at least he could recover some of his barely used pass. Hmmmm or can he?? The site is useless, the customer service basically ignores emails. The form on the site is undeliverable at the address and there is no phone number to call. My only remaining option is to contact my bank and fight it through them for fraudulent service. All this with the 30 day window rapidly shutting. Save your money and fly or bus!

Despite their explicitly stated return policies, and verbal and written promises from members of Eurail, they are now refusing to refund the cost of our passes.
Simply put, they ruined our honeymoon and now they're trying to make us eat the cost of our passes, along with the cost of the train and bus tickets that we had to buy because the passes were SHIPPED almost a full week after the guaranteed DELIVERY date when we were already thousands of miles away.
Eurail does not have a customer complaint phone line, and seems to only correspond with you through very sporadic email contact. Don't ever assume that having something in writing means that it will be honored. You'll probably get more value from your money if you just burn a big pile of it instead.
Edit: in response to Eurail’s reply: We have been in near daily contact with customer support and you not only is my complaints department contact refusing to answer my questions directly and giving only vague/empty apologies, but is refusing to refund the price of our tickets until Eurail has the unused passes mailed to their address in Ireland. The catch is that the passes were mailed over a week after the promised delivery date, which was one week AFTER we agreed with a customer service rep over the phone to cancel the passes for a full refund (BEFORE they shipped). Since the passes were delivered to a hotel in Amsterdam now I have to email and call people over 7000km away to ask them to mail a package to Ireland. Since none of these errors are my fault, why am I responsible for cleaning up Eurails mess? Respectfully, this is the most disrespectful customer service I have ever received. I am offended by the casual way you dismiss my concerns in this review. I also haven’t even mentioned how the delay on our passes and the reluctance of your customer service to admit a mistakes early caused my wife and I to spend our wedding anniversary on a filthy bus and end up paying hundreds of euros worth of additional expenses. So I reiterate to other consumers again: only buy Eurail passes at your own risk.

I love eurail and I used it in years past. But it didn't keep my profile active since my last use. Eurail is a great system, however the website's navigation is not user friendly.

Using the websites - both the original website choosing a pass and using the travel planner were very successful. The reservation website was also user friendly.
The customer service response however when there is a problem could use some improvement. While promised reply date was acceptable, the response didn't come on that date. The projected dates for receiving the reservations passed with no notification and no explanation - "technical difficulties" was cited when URGENT message was sent. The good news - a refund was promptly processed. So i'm recommending better communication when orders don't go as anticipated.

As a first time user, it is very difficult to navigate your web site. As a first time user I wanted to first ensure you offered the train destination and schedules that I had already planned for. In my experience I searched for a long time to find the destination page and schedule selection and when I did it wasn't very intuitive nor was it intuitive where and how to purchase the pass. One has to spend a lot of time searching your website in order to use it. Now that I have purchased the passes for myself and my children and selected the schedules, I still don't have confirmation that we are all on the trains that I selected, nor do I have seat assignments. I guess I have to wait for confirmation???. You indicate that you make all that in one of your headers, but you leave me in doubt. I have the schedule I chose, but I do not have confirmation that we are all on the train and I don't know where we are sitting. Also there are a lot of train stations in major cities like Paris, if your not familiar with Paris, how do your users know which is the appropriate one. Overall your site has a lot of information, but lacks the specific of navigation to the main reason a user is there; to purchase a pass, choose a schedule and get confirmation that all passengers has reserved seat selections.
