I love a startup and really wanted Erasmusu's offering to work out, but it wasn't to be.
I don't think they were at fault, but they cannot guarantee that the places available on their website are still available. This is because the landlords do not have loyalty to the platform.
In practical terms this resulted in me paying hundreds of euros in hostel/hotel fees and being homeless in Northern Italy after having paid money for a room. That room, although verified, was not available. They came up with another solution, but the landlord fell through yet again. 10 days killed.
To make matters worse I requested for an instant full refund which could happen in seconds using Transferwise. They proceeded by paying out using Stripe. Here they are 100% at fault.
In practical terms my money will have been blocked for 20 days for a non purchase, not what you want when you need to pay up a deposit and got a huge transatlantic trip planned.
Truly saddened by this whole happening.

Extremely poor website. I signed up to receive information about rooms in Gent, however continually received old adverts that were up to 10 years old ( and probably out of date). I tried to contact the information customer service, to receive glitchy messages that seemed like they had been automated and never actually read by human eyes!
In one case I had asked for information about an advert, however I was continually bombarded and told I had to subscribe to the website (of which from my experience was extremely out of date and lack any current experiences or new information ), in order to find out about information and contact the seller, who may not even be present on the website - that was most probably years out of date!
I think of this site as a fraud, to try and gain vulnerable and desperate students money; just to be let down and disappointed in the process.

Great cooperation and very good communication especially with Mr.Victor, who did support me in the process, and we have succeeded twice this year.
I hope not only to maintain the cooperation but enlargement of it on a larger scale of course.
Thank you Vic.

I will be honest, this website is very useful for erasmus students i found a nice apartment in warsaw and the guys of erasmusu gave me the house owner contact in just 2 days. The negative thing is that at first i asked for another house that in the end turned out to be unavailable even if i've already done the payment. Not big deal because they found me another that was suitable for me.

I was very rushed to find accommodation and they helped me find a place very quickly, I only gave one star less because I wasn't able to get a few different rooms that i requested. But overall, they were very helpful and fast at finding accommodation for me :)

Okey, so we came in Porto about 3 weeks ago (me and my bf) and we were eagerly looking for a long term place to live but all renting related agencies had a really high fee for working with them, so after a litte bit of search we found erasmusu, and the cool thing about it was that you have to pay a little amount for a kind of membership( 3 days, one week etc.) and that we don t have to pay the huge fee the other agencies would tax us. We found a room in an apartment and surprise we had to pay an extra 70 euros just so we can make the reservation, and then see the place. This system seemed quite weird because it requires you to pay a full month of rent, plus this "one time fee" that we found out when we tried to book something else that it is was a fee they take everytime you make a reservation, that can be up to 150 eur each, before getting any contact of the lanlord, and seeing the place. But we were quite disperate about finding a place so we accepted. We meet the landlord about 1 week before the period we would move in. She was a really shady lady, who didn't speak english almost at all. We met her in a caffe, where she told us to meet. She showed us the pictures of the wrong room, telling us that it is the first time she works with erasmusu and she doesn t know what she really posted. Then she tried to get more money from us telling she didn t know we were a couple even thought we messaged her before paying telling her that, and she insited that we have to pay more than the showed price.
Now, you have to understand she showed us no room (that was like it was supposed to be) and we had signed no contract whatsoever... we went to visit the room the next day and it was really old and faded and smelling like mold, the pictures we saw were used filters on to hide that. We didn't like the general energy of the house too and we decided to write her so we can look for something else. She told us that she is okey with it but we have to talk with erasmusu for the money. We explained them all the details and they refused to give our money back, because we didn't make photos so we didn't have enough proof that we didn't like the place which is atleast absurd. We send more emails, explaining in details why we really cannot take the place and got no answer from them for days.
We are students and one month of rent is a huge deal for us. Now i don t understand why Erasmusu is doing this because they get no benefit for stealing our money and giving it to the owner if we are not getting the room. We have anounced her one week before that we are not getting the room. The landlord accepted and told us that only erasmusu can give us our money...We can understand them keeping the fee( which is quite big) but atleast refund us our rent money, because we really need it.
Now the customer support from Erasmusu told us she will give the money to the owner because she doesn't believe us ( even though we are her customers) and that this is a trusted landlord of theirs but that is not true as the landlord told us it is the first time she works with them.
She said she will give our money to the landlord, even though we have absolutely no contract with the landlord, and that would be a straightforward theft.
Our experience with Eramusu was bad, I am sorry to have to say this, but I wouldn't recommend this site to anyone...

False advertisement! So you think you're booking a verified apartment, because yes, the advertisement says so. Sorry to disappoint you... because when reading their Terms and Conditions about apartment bookings, you will notice that it says "We do not endorse, support or warrant the truthfulness, accuracy or reliability of the information that appears in the adverts (...)" and "The Company assumes no responsibility whatsoever regarding the verification of the identities of the Accommodation Provider (...)". Well in that case, what does verified even mean for you? This is just false advertisement in my opinion and what they do is trying and trick young students that think they are getting a serious service helping them to find and book a place in a foreign country (since this website targets Erasmus students and such). Furthermore, they state that "the non-conclusion of the rental contract between the Accommodation User and the Accommodation Provider is not (a) sufficient condition for a potential return of the Booking (...)". So even if you don't get the apartment that you signed up for you will still need to pay them for their "services", which at this point I don't even know what these are really. Because having unsucessfully tried to book a place through their website, I know that once they get your money they won't do sh** anymore, even if you run into problems with the landlord. So really what are people paying you for? Even when you try and claim your money back for legitimate reasons, as the once they even list themselves in their Terms and Conditions, they will just not reply to you anymore and if they do they give you non-answers that don't apply to your situation or are just plain and simple lies! In my eyes, this company is a joke and is nothing more than a front to try and trick people out of their money (students and landlords apparently).

On 24/8 I booked and paid for a room (itakeskus-helsinki-697695)
Until today (on 12/9) I did not receive any confirmation and the room is apparently no longer available for the period I asked for.
I received different emails, but never in the period from 24/8 until now was there any confirmation for that room ...(or another room for that matter)
I can’t understand how it is possible that you make a reservation, pay for the room and finally find out that the room is no longer available. I find this way of working rather unusual.
The refund was transferd to me in a few days.

I had the worst experience with Erasmusu and would not recommend anybody to look for accommodation through the portal. The landlord of the accommodation I have booked through Erasmusu.com tried to kick me out of the apartment after 5 days without any reasonable explanation. Then he tried to scam me of my 400 euros deposit. After refusing to leave the property without the deposit he started to be aggressive, accused me of stealing (I did not steal anything) and started threating me. It escalated to the point he tried to grab my bag and backbag to put them on the street. After this we almost had a fight and I called the police. They admitted that I was right and I managed to get my deposit back. I left the place and spend nights in Barcelonas hostel till I found normal accommodation through badi.com
Erasmusu had not give me any answer to my emails after this, they have not offered different accommodation or, the worst part, give me back my September rent.
They are clearly not checking the owners and landlords of the properties. Email communication with them is very poor and their fees are high. I would not recommend this site to anyone, there is high possibility you will get scammed of your money or be living with a crazy person.

(The following review I wrote it on Trustpilot which was deleted by the erasmusu team. Please do read carefully.) Apparent illegal actions I booked a nice room in a house in Varna. It was exactly what we needed for my brother who was moving there to study. Everything was ok until the landlord picked him up from the airport and told him "You know what they have made a mistake on the site and have used a different address close to your university but the house is actually more than 30 km from the university.". Hence, my brother never moved in that house. First of all, I searched I didn't even find any buses to the university. First of all, here we have a very well prepared scam. The flat was booked by my brother and I did not have a look at it before hand. On the date my brother booked the room there was this title "House for rent in General Kantardjievo village, around 10km. from the sea resort Albena.". Now that I visited the web site there is this title "House for rent in General Kantardjievo village, around 10km. from the sea resort Albena and 34 km. from the center of Varna.". Of course, the company will try to justify themselves by saying that the title was the same. However, my payment receipt proves me right. Me and my brother have never been in Varna before so we have no idea where the resort Albena is. And I guess no new student that has never been in the country has any idea. So we relied on the address which was the following Address: ул. „Михаил Колони“ 1, 9000 Варна Център, Варна, България as well as the map that showed the house really close to the university. Of course they did not bother to change the address, why would they. According to the law, this is false information which is considered a feud when money is involved. But the story does not end here. It has been a week that I am trying to contact the company and they keep ignoring me. So obviously, this is not a case of a exhaustively busy company providing bad services to one of the costumers, which is understandable and happens. This is clearly a case of a company that provides false information in order to scam a buyer, receives the money and when the buyer gets back to the company to demand their money back they disappear. About 5 minutes ago, just by chance the help centre replied (probably because I was not logged in my brother's account). I wrote that they keep ignoring me and that I need to cancel a booking. So what happened? Some Rubben send me an e-mail of some Alessandra (the one who was responsible for our booking and her e-mail is no where in our e-mails) and he said I would have to contact her. Not to my surprise, I did not even manage to copy paste the e-mail since once he sent it after 20 to 30 seconds all the messages in the help centre were deleted as if it was magic. So this is a complete feud I lost 239 euros from no where. No there are two possibilities. 1. either the company will reply to this with justifications of a person who is trained to scam or 2. they will delete this review claiming it as an offensive content with abusive language (as they have done already with other reviews). Thank you in advance Erasmusu, Miss P (their response to my review was as follows) Good afternoon, We kindly remind you that erasmusu has the right to report every review which attempts against the terms and conditions of this platform and our name as a company, especially with strongly defamatory statements as found in this review. We are sorry to read your words, but we would like to clarify some points: The address in the ad has not been changed and the title shows clearly the distance to an important spot in the city. Of course it is understandable that the student is not familiar with the city, but there are tools to help himself with that and virtual maps, alongside with our private message chat in which the accommodation provider can be contacted prior to the booking to have all the important information. The system has received a big amount of emails from you and that is why these have been blocked or categorized as spam. However, my colleagues in charge will contact you to help in this matter. Thank you very much for your understanding. Best regards, The erasmusu team (First of all, I have to make it clear. I waited a good of three days to get a response from the first e-mail I sent. So there is no chance that all of my e-mails showed up in the spam folder simply because I patiently waited before bombarding them with e-mails. Why the rest of the excuses do not make sense is clear in the discussion below. When I read their response I clearly died laughing because I expected that they would present some silly argument to contradict the actual truth. I so much expected that they would try to blame me for their unprofessional actions. So after they deleted my review and responded that Alessandra who is supposed to be responsible for my booking e-mailed me.) Good morning, This is Alessandra from Eramsusu.com I'mmin charge of your booking. It seems you are not happy because of the address of the accommodation, please check in the ad the location and the address. Dear Peter, Could you kindly confirm the correct address is: ул. „Михаил Колони“ 1, 9000 Варна Център, Варна, България Best, (my response to this was once again a whole text basically telling them that their arguments do not make any sense at all.) Dear Alessandra, Thank you for your e-mail, finally. It is never too late, they say. I kindly ask you to check where you have pinned the address on Google maps which is also under the property's advertisement. Also as you very well state in the title of the advertisement, the house is located in General Kantardjievo whose postcode is 9150 (I just searched for it). Interestingly it is not 9000 as you state in the address details? So, you apparently know the house is in General Kantardjievo but you ask the landlord to verify an address with a different postcode? Could you please explain how can this make sense? At this point I should kindly inform you that it is my legal right to get the reimbursement since I invested in a property with false details provided to me. Furthermore, the company has been extremely unprofessional so far. I have to inform you that a series of events such as avoidance of communication with the costumer, not providing direct helpline contact details after you get money for your services can be considered a feud attempt which therefore implies that the sum of the company's actions in this case can be judged as illegal. On the top of that, I find it purely unethical to do everything possible to justify your company's mistakes in order to avoid a costumer's reimbursement rather than check carefully the information you provide to them. To recapitulate, your are exempted of any charge when the resulted incident is provoked by the buyer. When the details you provide about the product you sell do not correspond to the actual product you are obliged to pay back the amount of money you receive. False information in this case is particularly apparent and I have additional proof from the documents I have collected so far. Hence, I once again ask to get paid back the amount of 239 euros I paid for false services. Kind regards, M P (so apparently they try to cover their illegal actions trying to put the blame on me)

In the beginning they had good customer service - helped me find a room and to clarify a question I had for the landlords.
But when I arrived I had to discover that the room doesn't have an individual entrance, but that I have to go through another person's room to get into mine. This was not mentioned in the advertisement for the room!
Unfortunately I still signed the contract, because I felt pressured since I didn't have any other option of accomodation. I wrote Erasmusu an email that night, then didn't get a response and wrote another one the next week. They replied that they were busy during the high season, but that they would contact the landlords. More than a week later I wrote another email because the girl whose room I have to go through got a rent reduction, which I would also like.
Erasmusu never responded and now before the end of the month I finally contacted the landlords directly (with Erasmusu in CC) and they told me that I couldn't get a rent reduction, because I already signed the contract and because I didn't ask them in time. I thought Erasmusu had contacted them as they said they would, but apparently they never did. They also never got back to me about this email.
Overall, the room is not as advertised and I couldn't even get a rent reduction because of Erasmusu's total lack of communication as soon as there was a problem. Fast action was required and I got only 1 reply to 4 emails in the whole month of September. Yes, it may be high season, but this is not okay, when there's immediate action required. It seems like customers who already paid them are not a priority.
Maybe they will finally answer after this review and I think it would at least be appropriate to refund me the booking fee or talk to the landlords again, since I did not get what I'm paying for.
Because of this total lack of communication when you're in a bad situation in a foreign country, I don't think they're trustworthy and would not recommend booking on their website. It's not worth the risk, worry and frustration.
Edit as a reply to Erasmusu's comment:
This description of the room in the ad was not like this when I booked. I read it several times before booking and then again when I arrived there and wondered whether I missed this but I didn't. You updated the description afterwards, because this was not mentioned when I booked, if so I wouldn't even have considered this room.
And still there was no communication when I reached out for help. If there was any, I would like to see the correspondence with the landlords before this review.
Update 1 week later:
Still no email and no response whatsoever, not even an apology, just the sneaky update to the advertisement. Seriously disappointing service.

We absolutely DON'T RECOMMEND the Erasmusu platform!
We made a reservation for a room and transferred the money. Although there are two days for verifying the booking they didn't give us response and any information about a flat for over a week. One day before our arrival (after numerous emails from us) they told us that we can't move in because 'the landlord doesn't want to rent a room for 2 people', although it was a big room with two beds, titled 'spacious double room'. Finally they were keeping our money until the day of our arrival to Spain, not giving us any response or option of renting different room. Luckily we managed to find a room on our own right after we arrived because otherwise we would have nowhere to stay in a completely unfamiliar city. We got the money back but only for the accomodation, they kept the service fee (80 euros) for themselves, even though it was them who didn't keep the terms of agreement, not us. We didn't receive any help and the contact with them was very rare and limited. We are now trying to contact Erasmusu to ask about the reason of not refunding us the full payment, but there is as always no response since a few days. Don't recommend

I'm starting to worry ... On 24/8 I made a reservation for a room in Helsinki. First email I received "Our team will contact you as soon as he accepts or refuses the booking, usually within the next 48 hours". Second email on 25/8 The landlord of the accommodation you booked will tell us his final decision tomorrow :) In the meantime, you can send us a few options that you like. I informed them that I was just an option for the other room in the same apartment. On 30/8
"We work to confirm your alternative as quickly as possible". I did not ask for an alternative but for the confirmation of the room that must be paid immediately at the time of the reservation :-(. So I start to worry, especially after reading the negative reaction on this site. I consider having Visa cancel my payment.

My chosen option was declined by the owner. Erasmusu tried to come up with alternatives. I didn't like them and ask for my refund. They like to drag their feet on this subject. They usually take a whole day to reply. They offered more alternatives, which i replied That i want my refund. I also didn't like the fact they were patronising in the email, stating the obvious fact that is really hard to find acommodation on our own. Thank you very much, i didn't know that. I still want my money
