After carefully looking at options and reading reviews, I went for Eco Ice. The Santa Cruz trek is a classic for this region, and I wasn’t disappointed by the magnificence and beauty of the landscapes we crossed.
You couldn’t ask for more when it comes to planning and attention to detail from Eco Ice. The crew were extremely friendly and truly enjoyed being out there in nature. They went out of their way to make us comfortable, and every need was seen to. After a hard day’s trek, it was amazing to get to a ready set up camp, and to have hot water brought to your tent so you could wash up. Equipment and tents were high quality, and the food was also first class and plentiful.
For someone like me with very limited trekking experience, Eco Ice was the perfect choice because all my energy could go on the trek itself, and all the other tasks were taken care of.
Professional, safety conscious, genuine, caring and fun. I highly recommend Eco Ice.

I had an amazing experience with Ecoice. They accepted my last minute booking and were more than accommodating. I had such a great time on the hike, it was well catered for and the size of the group was perfect. On returning to Huaraz we were also treated to a home cooked meal which was really special.

My daughter and I did the 4 day Santa Cruz trek with Eco Ice in September 2019 and can highly recommend the comprehensive services of Orlando and his team. The group consisted of nine of us trekking, with Ronaldo (guide), Elias (chef) and Victor (in charge of the gear, donkeys and camp). We were able to walk at our own pace throughout the day and would arrive at camp to find our tents set up, kitchen and dining tents ready for food, even a toilet tent for necessary ablutions! The trek is moderately difficult with a mix of flat and hilly sections; the altitude was not an issue for us, particularly as Orlando had us begin at the Cashapampa side. The scenery is breathtaking and our weather was fantastic. The range and quality of the food provided was incredible - breakfast (eg. porridge and a crepe with fresh fruit), lunch (eg. chicken fried rice), 5pm snack (eg. pizza), 7pm three course dinner (eg. soup, fried fish and potatoes, chocolate truffle) - together with tea, coffee and hot chocolate. Hot water supplied for washing too. My tips to prospective trekkers - take a 'life straw' and enjoy the icy cold river water (rather than the boiled water provided) and don't wait to get bitten by the little black flies (I'm still scratching weeks later) - use repellent and tuck your trousers into your socks! Fantastic company and an amazing experience.

We didn't choose the best time to do trekking near Huaraz, but sometimes you just don't have other option. Therefore we were more than happy, when we met with Orlando, who is an experienced guide with a small agency in Huaraz. He was very welcoming and helped us with everything. We had some time in Huaraz, so Orlando gave us some advice, where we could do some trekking to get used to the altitude. He also was more than helpful with deciding, which trek would be the best for us during this rainy season and he was honest to tell us, that the 10 day trek is not such a good idea during December and with that weather-forecast, we had.
So, in the end we did the Santa Cruz Trek plus Lake 69 and it was just fantastic. Our guide was amazing (also as a cook) and we were extremely happy, that we not just found someone, who would organise a trip for just 2 person, but also who had such an experience and knowledge of the area.
And yes, we did have some rain during the trek, but still it was the best experience ever. The landscape and mountains are unbelievable and we were glad to have such a nice company with Czca, our guide. At the end of the last day, Orlando invited us to have dinner with him and some other guides. During our time he and Czca became our friends and they made this trip even more special.
Now we are just waiting for the next opportunity to travel to Peru, so we can do the longer trek with Orlandos agency. Would be a great opportunity to see him again!
