Though metropolitan Phoenix has a few local gay newspapers and magazines, this is the staple local gay publication. It's free, available for pick up at bars, some restaurants, and random businesses street corners throughout the city (though primarily in Central Phoenix). It provides local, national and world gay news, as well as local developments, venues, events, reviews of books, restaurants and movies, letters to the editor, financial advice, Valley organizations, rental/for sale properties, job opportunities and page after page of advertisement.
Yes, it has a lot of advertisement space, but hey, it's free and they are a business. Plus, if you want to keep your money in the community or would like to support supportive businesses, Echo is a window into the gay "marketplace." It often provides news other media outlets won't report and keeps a queer interest. If you want to keep up with local gay news or if you're just in town visiting, pick up a copy to get more detailed and informative insight.

This is really the premier GLBT publication in the Valley. Others will come and go, but Echo has been around for 17 years as of this posting, and I'm sure they will be around many, many more.
How good are they? When I used to volunteer at the GLBT Community Center and folks would call in to ask about the scene in Phoenix, we would give them directions to the nearest location that would have an Echo magazine. It's that good.
It's free on the stands outside many gay/gay friendly locations 2x a month. Great articles. National and international briefs to keep you posted, but the focus is always on what's happening here in the valley. They have some super opinion/commentary articles from folks with really different backgrounds. AND - one of the best classified sections ever! You want to know where the gay part of town is? Check out who's selling, renting and what realtor's think we'll buy. Oh yea, we're everywhere.
Best part for those new in town - Go to the back cover. Flip in a few pages and BAM - a map of all the hot spots. The opposing page will give you details about specials and events at a few of the locations too.
And ALL of it is available online. Oh yea....
